Murray Brown Jenrich, 71, of Sheridan passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at Memorial Hospital. Murray was born on December 3, 1929 to Ray and Geraldine Jenrich in Sheridan, Wyoming. Murray was raised on the family ranch located on Beaver Creek. As a young boy Murray loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1948. He continued his education at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins receiving a bachelor=s degree in 1952. While a student at CSU, Murray met Norma Garwood and the couple was married on March 11, 1951. Upon graduation, Murray entered the US Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant and served in Japan during the Korean War. After his military service, the couple moved to Sheridan in 1954.
Murray was a highly respected businessman in the insurance industry, starting his career in 1955 with Bridgford-Moore Insurance Agency; known today as BHJ, Inc. Serving as President of BHJ for over 30 years, he was instrumental in building and expanding the agency throughout the state. He retired in 1991, but remained a strong influence within the organization until his death.

Throughout his life, Murray was an active member of the Sheridan community serving as past President of Jaycees, member of the Elks #520, Masonic Lodge 8, VFW, American Legion, Ducks Unlimited and First Christian Church.

Murray truly enjoyed his later years with his family and friends. He provided many special memories through his passion for the outdoors encompassing mountain adventures, boating excursions, fishing and hunting expeditions and his favorite seasonal activity B snowmobiling.

Mr. Jenrich was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Geraldine Jenrich and his granddaughter Marisa Brown. He is survived by his wife Norma of Sheridan; his three daughters and their husbands; Robin and Rick Lemke of Durham, North Carolina, Sherri and John Gazdik of Sheridan, Wyoming; Kelly and Scott Brown of St. Paul, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Amber Lemke, Emilie Lemke, Rachael Hansen, Nathan Gazdik, Ryan Brown and Stacie Brown.

Visitation will be held from 7:00B9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Goodwin and Pastor Tony Forman officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

Opal Kautter age 97, of Sheridan, Wyoming
Died Sunday, October 14, 2001, in Sheridan Manor
She was born October 2, 1904, at Novinger, Missouri, the daughter of Everett and Mabel (Bragg) Farr.
She was raised in Missouri and in 1921 moved with her parents to a ranch near Reed Point, Montana, where she lived until 1940.

Opal worked at the Mouat Mine near Nye, Wyoming and then lived at Cody, Wyoming and later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she worked in the hotel and restaurant business. She moved to Billings, Montana, in 1972 with her sister and then moved to Sheridan in 1976.
He parents, one brother Floyd Farr, and one sister Ruth Farr preceded her in death.
A cousin Everett Farr and his wife Lila of Kirksville, Missouri survive.

Opal's wishes were not to have any services. Her cremated remains are to be scattered in the Big Horn Mountains. Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dwayne Giroux Ketcham, Sheridan, went to be with the Lord, on Sunday, November 18, 2001, following a lifetime battle with diabetes.

He was born on October 27, 1933, in Monarch, Wyoming, to Homer and Bernice (Giroux) Ketcham. He attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1952. In high school, he worked for the Hosford Ranch, the Railroad, and Booras Food Market. He also attended Sheridan College for a short time. He played saxophone in a local dance band along with Chic Dunne, Jim Bentley, Joe Rulli, and Dave Hollwell.

He joined the Air Force in April 1955, serving as a radio traffic analyst with the Intelligence Department. He retired in 1958 due to illness. Following his discharge from the service, he worked at the Mills Printing Company as a book binder and Foreman of the bindery from 1959 until 1983. In 1984, he also worked for the Highway Department and the Port of Entry for a short time.

He was active in Scouting and in 1951 was a member of Monarch Troop 117, who won the State Championship based on all around scouting skills. The troop received a trip to the National Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where 80,000 scouts were in attendance.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, local chapter of the AARP, and the Sheridan-Johnson County Pioneers.
He loved traveling, especially to Disneyland; reading; his grandchildren; and his player piano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Darrell and Homer, Jr., and one nephew Robert Warne, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, the former Doris (Brewer) Schilling, whom he married in Sheridan on June 26, 1964; one son Larry Wayne (Charlene) Ketcham of Belfrey, Montana; one daughter Lisa (Bobby) Howard of Wamego, Kansas; five grandsons, Erik Ketcham, Johnathon, Jace and Jordan Miech, and Savik Howard; two granddaughters Erin Ketcham and Ripley Howard; two brothers Garey of Sheridan and Ronald of Billings; one sister Gayle Warne of Buffalo; several nieces, nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Logan officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with full military honors. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials benefit a fund for the education of his grandchildren in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

John Barry King, passed away at his Sheridan home on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the age of 49.

John was born on October 19, 1951 in Sheridan to Donald L. and Dorothy E. "Dippy" Clapp King. He attended the school for the deaf in Chickasha, Oklahoma when he was four years old. He also attended the school for the deaf in Casper and Sheridan. He then attended Woodland Park Elementary School in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971. He was active in the High School Rodeo and attended the High School National Finals three times. In 1970 he was the National High School champion winning hte bull riding and all around. In 1971 he attended the National High School Finals and was the National Champion in the bronc riding and the all around. He then attended Sheridan College and also joined the PRCA, competing in the bare back and saddle bronc. Then he went on to become a team roper and a partner and saddle maker at King's Saddlery and worked there fro 32 years. John married Renee Wilson in 1980 and had two children, Megan Lynn and Tyler James. He was a member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church and was also a member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge. He enjoyed collecting art and antiques and attending auctions. He was invited to take part in several Cowboy Trapping shows to display his leather art. He was best of show in Alpine, Texas for the saddle he made.

Mr. King is survived by his parents of Sheridan, his daughter Megan King and son Tyler King. His brothers; Bob, Bruce and Bill King. His sister-in-laws; Debbi, Jean and Mary King. And his nieces and nephews; Erin, Kristen, Hanna, Brian, Donnie, Ryan and Barry King.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10am on Monday October 22, 2001 at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church with Father David Duprey officiating. Interment will take place at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church following the memorial service. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Sheridand High School Rodeo Club in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Wilbur G. Mascher, 90, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday November 23, 2001 in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan, WY.
Mr. Mascher was born September 26, 1911 in Banner, WY to Albert A. and Lillie Bell (Butterfield) Mascher. He grew up and attended Sheridan area schools. He married Mary Lois Webb JUly 3, 1942 in Hardin, MT.

Mr. and Mrs. Mascher lived in MT for several years before moving ro Spokane, WA where he went to work for Fruehauf, Inc. as a mechanic. They returned to Sheridan after his retirement in 1992.

Mr. Mascher was a member of the International Machinists Association. Local #1838 in Spokane, WA and had recently received his 45 year membership pin. He enjoyed repairing mechanical and electrical items in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and one brother.

Mr. Mascher is survived by his wife Mary, of Sheridan; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Marlerof Huntsville, NC and Anita Mascher of Pt. Orchard WA; 1 son, David Mascher and wife Jenifer of Tacoma, WA; 2 grandchildren; 1 soster, Mrs. Marie Jennings of College Place, WA; 1 brother, Lester Mascher of Sumner, WA; and a brother in law, Jack Webb of Sheridan, WY.

Memorial Services for Mr. mascher will be 10am Wednesday, November 28th, 2001 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Bishop Bret Barney officiating. Burial of Cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Donor's Choice in care of Delphine Toner, 1st Interstate Bank, Sheridan.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Margaret May, 85, of Sheridan passed away on Friday, October 12, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center.

Margaret was born on May 1, 1916, to Carey and Florence (Benham) Johnson. She attended high school, and later married Donald J. May on June 13, 1935, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. She enjoyed reading her Bible, hand sewing quilts, and crossword puzzles.

Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald J. May, and her grandson Donald May. She is survived by her two sons, Donald May and wife Carol of Ashland, Montana, and Richard May and wife Ronni of Denver, Colorado; her daughter Ida Brady and husband Marvin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her nine grandchildren, Vernon May, Irvin May, Nile May, Roberta Doekendorf, Ron May, Brian May, Theresa May, David Cook, and Cheryl Cook; her three sisters, Doris Scott of Lead, South Dakota, Alma Boggs of North Bend, Oregon, and Cinda Ward of Hemingford, Nebraska; her twenty-nine great grandchildren; her four great-great grandchildren; and her brother Irwin Johnson of Wichita, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 15, 2001, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Arthur Maendl officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

Dr. William E. Merrill, Jr., 92, of Sheridan passed away on Monday, October 22, 2001 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

William was born October 9, 1909, to William and Grace (Warner) Merrill in Nichols, New York. He graduated from Bucknell University with the Class of 1931, and furthered his schooling at the University of Rochester, where he obtained his Doctorate in Medicine, graduating with the Class of 1935. William practiced as a country doctor in upstate New York. On July 27, 1937, he was married to Dorothy Holbrook in Hornell, New York. Dorothy passed away in 1971. On November 22, 1973, William married Katherine Showalter in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She passed away in 1989.

Dr. Merrill enjoyed classical music, reading books, Broadway musicals, and playing golf and the violin. He was an anonymous philanthropist to many of his favorite charities. Most of all, he loved his family and his friends.

William is survived by his son John Merrill and wife Nancy Neighbors Merrill of Sheridan; his grandchildren William Churchill Merrill of Simsbury, CT, and Susan Holbrook Merrill Arnold of Grand Junction, CO; and his great-grandchildren Alec Merrill Arnold and a great-granddaughter due in December, both of Grand Junction, CO.

Memorials may be made to Dr. William E. Merrill State Park, c/o Parish Community Recreation, Marylou Guindon, 2885 E. Main Street, Parish, NY 13131, (315) 625-4575. The monies collected will go towards the purchase of playground equipment.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial will be held in Parish, New York at a later date. Arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home.

Dennis D. Mines, 53, of Sheridan passed away on Friday, December 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mr. Mines was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, on April 14, 1948, to James and Florence (Kott) Mines. He moved from South Dakota in 1957 to Farson, Wyoming, where he attended the public school. After graduating from high school in 1966, Dennis attended Western Wyoming Community College and Weber State College. After serving two years in the United States Army in Vietnam, he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Wyoming in 1972.

Denny had a distinguished Army service record. While serving in the Vietnam War, his actions in the US Army Medivac Unit earned him many honors, including a Bronze Star and numerous other awards and decorations. Denny’s generosity was apparent when he volunteered to serve in Vietnam when he was exempt from going because his brother Rod was already serving in Southeast Asia.

Denny’s enormous family was always close to his heart. Denny was married to Jody Roberts, and this union brought them two children, Jana Ann and Scott Clayton. Denny married Juanita Russell on August 6, 1999, in Ouray, Colorado, and he and Juanita moved to Sheridan from Riverton, Wyoming, in 1999.

Denny was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Horses and other animals were always a big part of his life. His kindness and compassion were evident in both the way he treated the animals he owned as well as the people he associated with. Generosity and thoughtfulness were his trademarks. He was always eager to help anyone in any way he could, and he did so throughout his life.

Mr. Mines was preceded in death by his grandparents and his sister-in-law Lori Mines. He is survived by his wife Juanita of Sheridan; his daughter Jana Mines of Rochester, Minnesota; his son Scott Mines of Sheridan; his two stepsons, Aaron and Matt Russell of Riverton, Wyoming; his parents James and Florence Mines of Sun City, Arizona; his parents-in-law Clayton and Maryann Wilson of Riverton, Wyoming; his four brothers, Rod Mines and wife Jan of Farson, Wyoming, Gary Mines and wife Vicki of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Don Mines and wife Bobbie of Farson, Wyoming, and Steve Mines of Farson, Wyoming; and his two sisters Carol Diehl and good friend Lee Messer of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Marilyn Mathern and husband Ken of Great Falls, Montana.

Vigil services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
