Olive ZumBrunnen
Funeral services for Olive ZumBrunnen were held Dec. 30, 1999, with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk cemetery.
Olive ZumBrunnen died Dec. 28, 1999, in Colorado. She was born on July 14, 1921, in Teepee, S. D., the daughter of Henrick and Roxie Hanson.
Olive attended the Roxson School in northern Niobrara County, a country school that was relocated several times. She attended high school in Newcastle, graduating in the spring of 1931 at age 16. Being too young to teach, she stayed in Newcastle for a fifth year called Normal Training for Teachers. She attended summer schools at University of Wyoming, Black Hills Teachers College and Brigham Young University.
She taught school at country schools in Weston County for four years and then at Hat Creek for one and a half years.
On Feb. 2, 1938 she married
Leslie L. ZumBrunnen, of the Kirtley community. In 1941, they bought the ranch in the Hat Creek Breaks from the Bruch family.
In 1945 Leslie and Olive became one of the founding families of Niobrara County Farm Bureau. In 1949 Leslie and Olive became involved in the 4-H program, serving in many capacities until their retirement.
She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, a member of Daughters of the Nile, and was Past Guardian of Job?s Daughters Bethel 10. She belonged to Lusk Business and Professional Women?s Club, Garden Club, the Divide Tumbleweed Women?s Club, Indian Creek Women?s Club, Niobrara Cow Bells and the Niobrara County Republican Women?s Club. She became a member of the First Baptist Church in 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie and one brother Floyd.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine McDaniel of Littleton, Colo.; a son Melvin ZumBrunnen of Lusk; six grandchildren: Mardee Aanonsen of Laramie; Julie Branting of Thornton, Colo.; Leslie ZumBrunnen of Littleton, Colo.; Teri Whitman of Dayton, Minn.; Clint ZumBrunnen of Del Rio, Texas; and Jason ZumBrunnen of Laramie; and four great-grandchildren: Meghan and Missy Aanonsen, Ryan and Rachel ZumBrunnen. She is also survived by a brother Glenn Hanson of the Cheyenne River community.
The family asks memorials be made to the Niobrara County 4-H Council.

Dorene Darrow
Funeral services for Dorene Darrow, 80, were held Wednesday, February 9 at Worden Chapel with the Rev. Mick Bohn of Foursquare Church officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood cemetery.
She died February 4, 2000 at Weston County Health Services.
She was born December 7, 1919 at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Phillip and Hazel (Street) Collins. She attended school through the 11th grade.
She married
Lloyd Darrow on Feb. 23, 1938 at Lusk. They lived and ranched at Dewey, S.D., until October 1979 when they moved to Newcastle.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Leone Robison and her husband of Newcastle; a granddaughter; a half-brother DuWayne McGee of Lusk; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established to Lifeline of Weston County.
Henry Woodrow Bray
Dec. 26, 1914 - Jan.6, 2000
Funeral services for Henry Woodrow Bray were held Jan. 11, 2000, at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk cemetery.
Mr. Bray died Jan. 6, 2000, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. Henry Bray was born Dec. 26, 1914 to John and Cora Bray at Decatur. Neb.
At the age of three the family moved to his father's homestead 12 miles north of Lance Creek, where he grew up. He attended various country schools in Niobrara County.
Henry married
Helen Drazey Nov. 4, 1931, at Manville. They continued to live at the home place. To this union three sons were born, Henry Richard, Leo Woodrow, and John Henry, who died shortly after birth.
Henry was a very gifted person. A friend once said, "all Henry had to do was feel of a motor and it would run." When the family could afford a modern home, he built it and did all the wiring and plumbing. Henry loved horses and enjoyed training them. He was an excellent rider and you could always find him at a horse sale. He led an active life until his eyesight failed.
When he could no longer take care of a ranch, they sold the ranch in South Dakota, and moved back to Lusk. They bought a house on South Maple Street, where he lived the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife Helen of 68 years; one son Richard and his wife Arlys of South Dakota; four grandchildren Ricky Bray, Jackie McElhaney, Johnny Bray and Maylene Gutheridge; six great grandchildren John Nelson, Jean Gutheridge, Kristy McElaheny and Kristina McElhaney, and Kristina, Nicole and Mikaela Bray.
A memorial has been designated to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice. Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Maurice Walsh
Charles Maurice Walsh passed away Feb. 21, 2000, as the result of a stroke in Torrington, Wyo. He was born June 12, 1914, to John and Ida Grable Walsh near Agate, Neb. Maurice moved to a homestead west of Glendo, Wyo., with his parents in 1920.
He attended rural grade schools west of Glendo and Glendo High School. He graduated from Lingle High School in 1934. He worked for several ranchers around the Glendo and Douglas areas, and the Sinclair Oil Co., west of Glendo. He also completed a diesel mechanic school in Los Angeles, Calif.
He married
Margaret Dorothy Hale from Lost Springs, Wyo. in Oct. 1939, later divorced. He had two step-daughters, Wilma and Norma Hale; two daughters, Thelma and Wyoma; and two sons, Melvin and Richard.
Maurice farmed and ranched around Glendo, Lusk and Manville for more than 50 years, 43 years northwest of Manville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: William, Bernard, Bryan and Lewis; one sister, May Erschebek; one stepdaughter, Norma Miller, and one son, Richard Walsh; one grandson, Daniel Lee Hanson; one great granddaughter, Kelsey Marie Jacobson.
He is survived by one sister, Bernice and husband Glen Gibson of Mansfield, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Wilma Santoyo of Battle Mountain, Nev.; two daughters, Thelma Hanson of Dusty, Wash., and Wyoma and husband Jerry Dalrymple of Loveland Colo; and one son, Melvin and wife Karen Walsh of Burbank, Wash., 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manville cemetery or your favorite charity.
A memorial service will be held Thursday afternoon, 2 p.m. at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Burial will be at the Manville cemetery in Manville.

Ruth Lenore Johnson
July 24, 1911 - January 8, 2000
Funeral services for Ruth Lenore Johnson, 88, of Lusk, were held Jan. 10, 2000, at the Cicmanec Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Father Clifford Moore from the All Saints Episcopal Church in Wheatland officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk cemetery.
Ruth Johnson died Jan. 8, 2000, at the Niobrara County Hospital.
She was born on July 24, 1911 to Alfred and Olive Johnson in Douglas, Wyo.
Her early life was spent living in town and going to school in Niobrara County. Following high school, she attended the University of Wyoming and the Colorado Women's School. After her college years she returned to Niobrara County and taught six years in rural schools.
Miss Johnson moved to Washington, D. C., where she was employed with Senator Frank Barrett. She returned to Cheyenne where she worked for several government offices and eventually worked at Warren Air Force Base. She became even more independent and opened a cake and candy shop out of her home.
Ruth returned to Lusk in the mid-1970's and lived in the family home until she became a resident of the nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roy A. Johnson, and a sister Grace O. Johnson.
Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Elenor of Lusk, one nephew Robert A. Johnson and his wife Polly, a great-niece Deeanne Johnson and a great-nephew Keven Johnson.
A memorial has been established to St. George Episcopal Church in Lusk or the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
Raymond Lee Murphy
Feb. 7, 1943 - January 3, 2000
Funeral services for Raymond Lee Murphy, 56, were held Jan. 7, 2000, at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Tim Tyler of Douglas Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park cemetery in Douglas.
Raymond Murphy died Jan. 3, 2000, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Raymond Murphy was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Lusk, the son of Leo Wilson and Hazel (Volentine) Murphy. He was reared and educated in Lusk and Midwest. He married
Shirley K. Williams, Dec. 10, 1961, in Lusk.
They lived in the Midwest-Edgerton area until 1967, then moved to Douglas in 1976.
Raymond worked as a well service rig operator until an injury forced early retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the Valley Pool League, and helped organize the Junior League. He enjoyed playing eight-ball, bowling, cribbage, fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Douglas; four children, Sharon Wales and husband Jack; Ray Murphy Jr.; Larry and wife, Alicia Murphy; Derek and wife Janice Murphy all of Douglas; five brothers, Murlin Murphy, Dean Murphy and Roger "Butch" Murphy all of Casper, Donnie Murphy of Rock Springs, and Bobby Murphy of Casper; step-brother Tony Scheenen of Rock Springs and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Dennis Murphy.
Serving as pallbearers were Eddie Hegglund, Scott Hegglund, Charlie Hegglund, Wayne Sides, Richard Middleton, Denny Dobson, Tom Nunn and Jimmey Jay Hinckley.
Memorials to the Raymond Lee Murphy, Sr. Memorial Fund, 508 North Fourth Street, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.

Josephine Tutt
1919-Dec. 11, 1999
A Memorial Mass for former Casper and Lusk resident Josephine Tutt "Tutty" Collins, 80, was held Dec. 14, 1999, in Amarillo, Texas.
She died Dec. 11, 1999 in Amarillo.
She was born in 1919 in Huron, S. D., to Grace and Ray Howard. She studied at Yankton College in Yankton, S. D., and the University of Minnesota, where she studied architecture.
She married
Richard Collins in Casper in 1941 and moved to Glendale, Calif. They returned to Casper in 1947. They moved to Lusk and she indulged her love of writing when she became a correspondent for the Casper Star-Tribune.
They lived in Lusk until moving to Fountain Valley, Calif., in 1978. Her husband died in 1980.
She moved to Amarillo in 1993 and enjoyed many activities there. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 1999 and died in the home of her youngest daughter.
Survivors include her three daughters: Melinda Norris of Glendale, Calif.; Marnie Olmstead of Wichita, Kans.; and Cecily Bramlet of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren; and a sister Betty Sherrard of Dallas.
