Lawrence D.`Larry' Davis
Memorial services for Lawrence D. Larry Davis, 76, of Sheridan will be announced later. Mr. Davis died May 25, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Davis was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Ontario, Wis., to Vernon and Florence (Gardner) Davis. He attended country schools in Walrath, Wis., and high school in Glen Flora, Wis. He attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland. He joined the Navy in 1947. He married
Rose Marie Stevens in Ladysmith, Wis., in 1952. They moved to Oregon that year, and Mr. Davis worked in sawmills. He moved to southeast Alaska in 1964 to work in logging camps. He returned to Oregon in 1968. He and his wife were divorced in 1972. Mr. Davis returned to Alaska in 1975 to work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline as a labor foreman. In 1978, he moved to Sheridan and worked in construction. He returned to Alaska in 1982, where he worked in construction and later formed his own construction and snow-removal company. He retired to Oregon after suffering a heart attack. He later published a book of his adventures in Alaska during the 1960s. He returned to Sheridan in 2006. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed playing cards, reading and telling stories. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Porter. Survivors include two sons, Vernon of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Forrest of Talent, Ore.; and four sisters, Rosemary Rathsack of Junction City, Ore., Dolores Novak of Princeton, Wis., Margaret Call of Brigham City, Utah, and Sharon Schultz of Florence, Ore.
Pamela Dennis Sampson
Former Sheridan resident Pamela Dennis Sampson, 62, of Gillette died May 25, 2007, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital from complications to injuries suffered in a motor-vehicle accident. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Pisgah cemetery with the Rev. Chad Brucklacher, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, officiating. Arrangements are with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Mrs. Sampson was born July 13, 1944, in Philadelphia to Kenneth and Jean (Bechtold) Harper. She moved to Sheridan in her senior year of high school and graduated from Sheridan High School. She worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Sheridan Memorial Hospital before transferring to Sheridan VA Medical Center, where she worked as a ward secretary until she retired. She moved to Upton and, later, Gillette, after the death of her husband, Sam. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, where she spent many years on dart ball leagues. She also enjoyed fishing. Survivors include a son, Kevin Dennis of Sheridan; a daughter, Deborah L. McElhiney of Gillette; one brother, Kenneth Harper of Aldan, Pa.; and five grandchildren. Frank W. Martin
Services are planned later for Frank W. Martin, 66, of Sheridan, who died May 23, 2007, in Billings. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Martin was born in 1941 in San Diego to Frank and Rose Martin. He was a graduate of El Cajon (Calif.) High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959 and served until 1962, when he was honorably discharged. He married
Valerie Pinterich on Feb. 20, 1993, in Ceres, Calif. He worked construction and owned and operated a trucking company. He drove for most of his career. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially his Honda Goldwing, and was a car enthusiast. He owned a 1929 Model A classic car. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Lee. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Frank William Martin Jr. of Modesto, Calif., Paul Eugene Martin of Carson City, Nev., Edward Alan Martin of Turlock, Calif., Michael William Martin of Davenport, Iowa, and Eric Alan Lloyd of El Cajon; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Bauman of El Cajon; nine siblings; and six grandchildren. Linda 'Lin' Harris Luedtke
A celebration of the life of Linda "Lin" Harris Luedtke, 65, of Triangle, Va., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Chesterfield, Va. Mrs. Luedtke died May 22, 2007. She was daughter of Mary Elizabeth Berry and sister of John Berry, both of Big Horn. She was an emergency room nurse at Totomac Hospital for 35 years. In addition to her mother and brother, survivors include a son, Bryan H. Luedtke of Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Susan L. O'Shea of Chesterfield; two other brothers, Mike Berry of Gabriola, Canada, and Dan Berry of Billings; and three grandchildren. Warren Franklin Long
Warren Franklin Long, 86, of Sheridan died May 23, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo, followed by graveside services in Kaycee cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Long was born March 15, 1921, in Firth, Neb., to Frank S. and Mary C. Long Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Firth and Sussex. He married
Vivian L. Turk on Sept. 11, 1953, in Buffalo. They made their home in Hastings, Neb., where where Mr. Long worked at the naval base, until 1957, when they moved to Sussex. Mr. Long worked in construction, building the Sussex road. They moved to Edgerton, where he worked in the oil field for a year and a half, then returned to Sussex, where he worked in the Lynch oil field until 1986, when he retired. He moved to Sheridan Manor in February. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family in those activities. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Rusty Scott; two brothers; and one sister. Survivors include his wife of Sussex; a daughter, Ve Nancy Niswender of Buffalo; two sons, Floyd of Buffalo and Scott of Kaycee; two sisters, Leona Taylor of Midwest and Grace Wright of Johnson, Neb.; a brother, Frank Junior of Warsaw, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Nova `Laveta' Dinnebeck
Memorial services for Nova Laveta Dinnebeck, 87, of Sheridan will be 3 p.m. June 1 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A gathering in the Parish Hall will follow services. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Dinnebeck died May 18, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born in 1919 on the family farm near Loveland, Colo., to Ellen (Greenwood) and Rufus R. Roller. She grew up in Fort Collins, Colo., and was a 1938 graduate of Fort Collins High School. She attended nurse's training at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Denver. She married
Harvey Brick Gordon in 1939. They operated Brick's Plumbing and Heating in Fort Collins until 1954, when the family moved to Wheat Ridge, Colo. They were divorced in 1966. Mrs. Dinnebeck married
Paul Wanley in 1967. They lived in Granby, Colo. Mr. Wanley died in 1979. She married
John Dinnebeck in August 1981. He died of brain cancer in December that year. Mrs. Dinnebeck retired from nursing and became a Mary Kay consultant serving the North Park area in northern Colorado. She moved to Sheridan in 1996 to be near her daughter. In addition to two husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Strachan of Fort Collins, and a great-grandson. Survivors include a son, Larry Gordon of Pasco, Wash.; a daughter, Lynn Gordon of Sheridan; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Lena Guster
Graveside inurnment services for former Sheridan resident Lena Guster, 90, of College Station, Texas, will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A reception for family and friends will be at the Holiday Inn following the services. Mrs. Guster died earlier this year in College Station. Cremation took place in Texas. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Thomas J. Lopez
Vigil service for Thomas J. Lopez, 63, of Sheridan will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Lopez died May 18, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Sheridan to Louis and Pauline (Delgado) Lopez. He grew up in Sheridan and was a graduate of Holy Name School and Sheridan High School. He served in the National Guard and worked at Hammer's Chevrolet and Sheridan Electric before being employed at Decker Coal. He married
Ranelle Johnson on Dec. 8, 1970, in Sheridan. They were divorced in 1978. He left Decker Coal in 1988 and worked for Cloud Peak Realty and ERA Carroll Realty. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 520, Big Horn Mountain Eagles and the Karz Club. He enjoyed playing in the pool league, golf and restoring cars. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Louie, and a sister, Rose Marie. Survivors include a son, Matt of Henderson, Tenn.; a daughter, Amy Ross of Willcox, Ariz.; a brother, John of Sheridan; three sisters, Molly Jones of Kirby, Mont., Francey Armstrong of Great Falls, Mont., and Ann Campos of Santa Paula, Calif.; and two grandchildren. Arline E. Wood
Memorial services for Arline E. Wood, 79, of Sheridan will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in St. Peter's Parish Hall. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Wood died May 18, 2007, in Sheridan Manor following a long illness. Cremation has taken place. She was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Sheridan to Jess M. and Rose E. (McDonald) Ellsworth. She was a 1945 graduate of Sheridan High School and married
Harold W. Wood that year in Billings. She was a member of many organizations, including Daughters of the Nile where she served as queen in 1976 Beauceant, Order of the Eastern Star and Akcita Win. She was a telephone operator at Bell Telephone, medical secretary for the Schunk Clinic and administrative assistant for Whitney Benefits. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and dachshund, tending her flower gardens and weekends at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Dorothy Ellsworth; and a brother, Warren D. Ellsworth. Survivors include three children, Darlene Gilkey, Ron Wood and Bob Wood, all of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. William J. Semingsen
William J. Semingsen, 71, of Billings died May 17, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. He was brother of Ray Semingsen of Sheridan. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith's Downtown Chapel in Billings. Inurnment of cremains will be in Manchester cemetery in Great Falls, Mont. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Semingsen was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Sidney, Mont., to Sever George and Alma (Siefert) Semingsen. He grew up on the Highline in northern Montana and moved to Great Falls with his family when he was a child. He lived in the Boulder (Mont.) Training School and in Big Sandy, Mont., for a time before moving to Billings in 1975. He was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed children, animals especially birds and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by two half sisters. In addition to his brother, survivors include a half sister, Susan Shrapp of Great Falls. Betty Lou Spangler
Funeral services for Betty Lou Spangler, 84, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating and the Rev. Kevin Jones co-officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Spangler died May 14, 2007, near Des Moines, Iowa, in a car accident. She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in West Union, Ill., to Fred and Beulah Huffington. She married
Norman Spangler on Oct. 8, 1944, in Marshall, Ill. They moved to Sheridan in 1949, and Mrs. Spangler began her career as a registered nurse at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital in 1950. She worked at the hospital for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Wyoming Nurses' Association and its former state president. She also volunteered with the Kalif Shrine Center and was several times recognized as Kalif Woman of the Year for her service. After retirement, she enjoyed travel, fishing in the mountains, reading and embroidering tea towels. She participated in several Wyoming craft shows, selling tea towels and homemade jelly. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sharon Bedard and Norma Eberts; three brothers, Jack, Dean and Dale Huffington; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Esther Bumbaca
Graveside services for Esther Bumbaca, 90, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Odd Fellows Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Bumbaca died May 16, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born May 17, 1916, on the Powers Ranch in Squirrel Creek Valley near Decker, Mont., to Frank and Nora (Foss) Powers. She attended school in Squirrel Creek and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married
Dominic Bumbaca on Dec. 31, 1939, in Hardin, Mont. She ranched with her family in Decker for many years until 1972, when she retired and moved with her husband to Sheridan. She enjoyed painting. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister. Survivors include a son, David of Sheridan; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren. Margaret Jeanne Kinskey
Former Sheridan resident Margaret Jeanne (Jeanne) Kinskey, 79, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died May 10, 2007, in the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale. She was mother of Mayor David Kinskey of Sheridan. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Casper, followed by a reception at the Petroleum Club at approximately 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Kinskey was born July 5, 1927, to Bessie Margaret O'Neal and Edward Dunn Dougherty in Steubenville, Ohio. She was a 1945 graduate of Portsmouth (Ohio) High School and a 1949 graduate of Miami of Ohio University. She married
Charles Rodney Kinskey on Sept. 5, 1949. The family lived in Portsmouth and Casper in addition to Sheridan. She described herself as a professional mom. She attended her children's swim meets, recitals, wrestling matches, 4-H shows, speech meets and football games. She participated in tennis, swimming, bicycling, cross country skiing, golf and rollerblading. She enjoyed bike rides with her children, reading and discussing books, and being with family and friends. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Randy. Survivors include her husband; seven additional children, Robin, Patty, Amy, Joe, John, Mary and James Boo; a sister, Patty Coburn of Portsmouth; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. William Benjamin `Ben' Sprague
William Benjamin Ben Sprague, 86, of Phoenix died May 3, 2007, in Phoenix. He was father of Ellen Compton of Sheridan. A military honor ceremony will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, according to his family. Mr. Sprague was born May 17, 1920, in Rockland, Idaho, to Benjamin Franklin Sprague and Elizabeth Hillhouse Sprague. He grew up in Burley, Idaho, and graduated from Burley High School. He attended the University of Idaho in Moscow. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving from October 1941 to October 1945, and returned to Burley after World War II. He married
Dena Hartwell Doman on Feb. 2, 1947, and assumed control of the family business, Sprague's Sport Shop. The Spragues moved to Arizona in 1972. Mr. Sprague managed Sun Lake Realty and was the resident tennis pro at Sun Lakes Country Club. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994; three sisters, Helen, Betty Lou and Elizabeth; and a brother, Richard. Survivors include three additional children, Gay Lynne Aragon of Mesa, Ariz., Shellie Anderson of American Fork, Utah, and Bill of Tempe, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Gordon Dean Anderson
BUFFALO - Gordon Dean Anderson, 81, of Buffalo died May 14, 2007, in Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Hugo Blotsky as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Orville `Red' Warner
Orville Red Warner, 87, Sheridan, died May 13, 2007, at Westview Health Care Center. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sheridan, Pastor Gordon Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise, Idaho. Born Jan. 31, 1920, in Galeton, Colo., to David and Pansy Warner, he moved with his family to Idaho when he was a small child and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Gem State Academy and, as a young man, worked for the Forest Service. He was an Army medic in World War II serving in France, Germany, and stateside. He married
LaVonne Henderson in 1944 in Topeka, Kan., and they moved to Sheridan in 1951. Mr. Warner worked at Sheridan VA Medical Center as an aide and later a manual arts therapist. He retired in 1975 and moved to Boise. He married
Elaine Kivett in 1976. They enjoyed going on building projects across the United States, Mexico, Sweden, Santo Domingo and Africa. A lifelong member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, he assisted in Pathfinder activities and enjoyed hunting, fishing, archaeology digs, reading, and especially feasts with family and friends. He belonged to the Sheridan-Buffalo Archaeology Society, Idaho Rock & Gem Society, and Idaho Historical Society. After his wife died in 2001, he returned to Sheridan and resided at Heritage Towers. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Darwin and Ralph Warner. Survivors include three children, Orvella Burris and Thomas Warner, both of Sheridan, and William Warner of Elberta, Ala.; two stepchildren, Charles Kivett and Valley Klammer; two brothers, Bud and Merle Warner, both of Boise; two sisters, Irene Itschner of Pendleton, Ore., and Marylene Horn of Boise; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives. He considered as honorary children the Mark and Debbie Oedekoven family of Utah, Kathleen Kelly of Sheridan, and Kathy Weinsaft of Glenrock. He also had a close, special relationship with the daughters and family of John and Mary Fox of Rozet. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
