John Kuchera
John Kuchera, 89, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center of apparent natural causes. No funeral is planned, but a memorial service will be scheduled soon, according to his family. Mr. Kuchera was a longtime Sheridan resident and a sculptor, whose pieces depicting various events of the Lewis and Clark Expedition are on display at area businesses. Survivors include his wife, Esther, and a daughter, Anita, both of Sheridan.
Howard `Swede' Goodman
Howard Swede Goodman, 82, of Casper died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center of cardiac arrest. He was stepfather of Marilyn Winner of Big Horn and brother of Sadie Robertson, Robert Goodman and Kenneth Goodman, all of Sheridan. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Oregon Trail State Veterans cemetery. Mr. Goodman was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Portland, Ore. He attended schools in Billings and Big Horn. He served two years in the Army Air Corps, 28th Bomb Squadron, as an aerial gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married
Norma Jean Deines in Casper on Oct. 27, 1979. He enjoyed leather craft and, in his younger years, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion for 28 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Bury; three brothers, George, Lewis and Virgil; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his stepdaughter and siblings, survivors include his wife; his children, Steven of Fargo, N.D., and Carey, Ardith, Susan and Carol, all of Rapid City; a stepson, Walt Goodman of Emigrant, Mont.; another stepdaughter, Kathleen Taylor of Casper; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry Peter Bell
Jerry Peter Bell, 74, of Buffalo died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. He was father of Eileen Berning, Lorrie Kraft and Wes Bell, all of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Jarvis officiating. Private family burial will follow. Mr. Bell was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Gillette to Robert W. and Sindet O. Bell. He grew up and attended schools in Gillette and Sheridan. He joined the Navy after high school and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Sheridan. He married
Georgian Marie Bixby on April 9, 1955, in Sheridan. They made their home in Buffalo, where Mr. Bell worked for Mountain Bell telephone company. He retired in 1985 after 30 years. Mrs. Bell died in July 1997. Mr. Bell was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time in his boat and with his family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robbie; a brother, Bill; a sister, Bert; and one grandchild. He was the companion of Sonny Wangsness. In addition to his three children, survivors a sister, Ramona Eccles of Casper; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Patricia P. Sickler
Graveside services and inurnment for Patricia P. Sickler, 81, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with Capt. Lisa Gill officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Sickler died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at her residence. She was born March 17, 1925, in Seneca, Neb., to William and Laura (Westering) McKelvey. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child, and she grew up and graduated from high school here. She was a lab and X-ray technician at the old Memorial Hospital on Saberton Avenue. She left for a time, then returned and worked for the hospital for 35 years as a nurse's aide and ward clerk. Henry Sickler Sr. on Dec. 11, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. She was a member of Diamond Rebekah Lodge No. 8/Silver 6, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America. She was a past noble grand and past district president of the Diamond Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Grand Lodge of Wyoming. She enjoyed bingo, cooking, baking, making candy, reading, embroidery, holidays and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert William and John Andrew. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Henry Jr. of Sheridan and Ed of Buffalo; three daughters, Mollie Kluver of Recluse and Bessie Moore and Pandy Sears, both of Sheridan; a brother, Don McKelvey of Thornton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Linda Lee Layton
A celebration of the life of Linda Lee Layton, 54, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Monday at Big Horn Mountain Eagles Lodge. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Layton was born March 24, 1952, in Gillette to Edward and Doris (Seeley) Moore. She grew up and attended schools in Moorcroft, Payson, Ariz., and Rosehill, Va., before graduating from Sheridan High School. She also graduated from Sheridan College with an associate degree in computer science. She married
Darrell Layton in 1973. They divorced in 1989. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and the Women Pilots Association. She enjoyed flying her Glastar aircraft and playing darts. She was preceded in death by her parents and was the companion of Ron Lytton of Sheridan. Survivors include a son, Travis Layton of Rock Springs; a daughter, Holly Munoz of Seattle; a brother, Keith Moore of Sheridan; a sister, Karla Moore of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Madonna Boley-Keyser
Funeral services for Madonna Boley-Keyser, 69, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Private graveside services will be Monday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Boley-Keyser died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Aug. 9, 1937, in Gering, Neb., to Elsie (Hoffman) and Vincent Boley. She was active in 4-H and a 1955 graduate, with honors, of Sheridan High School. She received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Wyoming. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Omega. She married
Larry W. Keyser on Aug. 31, 1958. They moved to Houston in 1962. Mr. Keyser worked for NASA, and Mrs. Boley-Keyser was a teacher and homemaker. They later divorced. Mrs. Boley-Keyser worked in her churches and enjoyed travel, sewing, working with children, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Veronica Alden and Vicky Overseth. Survivors include a daughter, Kristi Goldston; a son, Kerry "Kent"; a sister, Nadine Gorski; a brother, Neil Boley; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Albert Herrera
Funeral services for Albert Herrera, 81, of Big Horn will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Stuart Crawshaw officiating. Burial will be in Grand Junction (Colo.) Catholic cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday. Mr. Herrera died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Saquache, Colo., to Daniel and Manulita (Cisneros) Herrera. He married
Rosie Valdez in Grand Junction. She preceded him in death. He was a diesel mechanic for Anaconda Co. for 23 years and at Decker Coal for 13 years, until 1991, when he retired. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity Anglican Rite-Holy Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling with his wife in their motor home. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dan, Joe and Sam; and a sister, Lula Qualis. Survivors include his wife, Simonita; five sons, Steve of St. Angelo, Texas, Manuel and Daniel, both of Butte, Mont., Roger of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Carl of Taos, N.M.; a daughter, Dorothy Wentzel of Maupin, Ore.; three stepchildren, Ben and Robert Sandoval and Connie Shea; a sister, Virginia Duran of Pueblo, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Georgia Harris
Georgia Harris, 103, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Harris was born June 23, 1903, in Rosebud, Mont., to Harold and Emma (Harris) Tilleson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Rosebud. She married
Miller Harris in 1926. They moved to Miles City, Mont., in 1946. Mr. Harris died in 1954. Mrs. Harris worked in a clothing store in Miles City. She moved to Sheridan after retiring and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and reading. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Vanna Schwamb; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and two great-great-grandchildren. Jean Erin Hobein
Former Sheridan resident Jean Erin Hobein, 90, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, in Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage of natural causes. Graveside services are planned for next summer in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Hobein was born March 17, 1916, in Newcastle to Grover and Christine Taylor. She lived and worked in Sheridan until she married
Byron Hobein. The moved to San Francisco while he was in the U.S. Navy, then to Anchorage in 1948. While in San Francisco, Mrs. Hobein worked for the United Nations. She later was bookkeeper for her husband's shoe store in Anchorage. She was a past matron of Chapter 8, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Pioneers of Alaska, and active in First United Methodist Church. She and her husband traveled the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Ty, and a sister, Helen. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Stewart of Anchorage; a brother, Grover Bud Taylor of Juneau, Alaska; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
Woodrow `Woodie' Caddell
Woodrow Woodie Caddell, 91, of Dayton died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Viewing will be until 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dayton Community Church with the Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Caddell was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Melrose, N.M., to Joe and Luda (Bynum) Caddell. He enlisted in the Army in 1944, served in World War II as a heavy machine gunner in the Pacific Theater, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married
Lottie Buttrell. They divorced. Mr. Caddell operated a farm in Dermott, Texas, for 19 years. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for five years, then worked in the oil fields before moving to Big Timber, Mont., to ranch with his uncle Shorty Caddell. He married
Johnnie Maples. The family later moved to Wyola, Mont., where Mr. Caddell ranched and drove a school bus for 19 years before moving to Dayton. He was commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10105. He volunteered at the VAMC and enjoyed swimming, travel and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his second wife and a son, Steve. Paxey J. Geer
Paxey J. Geer, 56, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. At her request, no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Geer was born Dec. 25, 1949, in Sheridan. She grew up and attended schools here. She married
Alton Geer on Dec. 31, 1973, in Sheridan. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, drawing and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Allen of Sheridan and Kevin of Parkman; three daughters, Christina Geer and Darcie Scott, both of Parkman, and Becky Pehringer of Sheridan; two brothers, Ed Phillips of Sheridan and Harry Phillips of Newcastle; a sister, Helen Copp of Hardin, Mont.; and three grandchildren.
Forest `Gail' Parkison
Forest Gail Parkison, 81, of Dayton died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. A graveside memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Dayton cemetery followed by a luncheon at Dayton Community Hall. Arrangements are with his family. He was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Helena, Mont., to Shirley and Lottie (Clawson) Parkison. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married
Claudia (Clow) on Nov. 13, 1947, in Crow Agency, Mont. He worked for the Padlock Ranch for 35 years, until 1992, when he retired. He enjoyed fishing, rodeos and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include three sons, Rollie and Ronn of Gillette and Rick of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Nancy `Kathy' Patterson
A celebration of the life of Nancy Kathy Patterson, 57, of Sheridan will be 1-4 p.m. Nov. 12 at 569 W. Works St. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. She died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was born in Denver on Jan. 16, 1949, to Harold and Genevieve (King) Bray. She was a bus driver for Sheridan County School District 2 and a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include three children, Deanna Kelley and Jessica Long, both of Sheridan, and Shaun Wolter of Spokane, Wash.; and six siblings, David Bray, Steve Bray, Rod Bray, Diane Dalton and Marion Gormley, all of Oregon, and Leigh Galinski of Alaska.

Halle Hardesty
Halle Hardesty, 15 months, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at her home in Gillette due to an unknown medical condition. She was granddaughter of Jim and Candy Hardesty of Wyarno. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Crump of the Family Life Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in Wright cemetery. Halle was born July 13, 2005, to Jamie and Stacey (West) Hardesty of Gillette.
