Norma W. Olson, Age 91 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, September 6, 2000, in her Sheridan home

Parents - John & Mary (Lundgren) Van Dusen
She was raised in the area of Stanley, Jump River, Ladysmith and Eidswald, Wisconsin where she attended grade school, Norwegian school in summers and Sunday School at the Lutheran Church. When she was 12 years old, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to finish 7th and 8th grade while working for her room and board. She was housekeeper for the Edwin Rose family for seven years and took bookkeeping classes when she could. She was very good at reading, spelling, writing and math. While working in Minneapolis she met her husband to be, Guy Ellsworth Olson. Guy came to Wyoming to work in the early 1930’s and in 1936 Norma came to Wyoming and they were married on September 24, 1936, in Casper, WY. They followed the road construction work until 1942 when they settled in Sundance, WY. Later they moved to the Scott Ranch on Sunny Divide, living there until Guy died on July 6, 1959. The family moved onto their own ranch at the foot of Oudin Hill and Norma worked at the Devil’s Tower restaurant for a time. She then moved to Sundance and worked as a cook in the hospital. In 1970, she moved to Casper and ran her own house cleaning business until 1992 when she moved to Sheridan to be closer to her daughter. She worked part-time for her daughter at the Econ-O-Wash Laundry and did ironing in her home. Norma was a member of the African Violet Club and enjoyed raising violets of which she had as many as 200 at times. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and was always baking goodies to give to someone.
Preceded in death by two brothers William and Donald; her sister Mildred Myra Shaw.

O.E. "Doc" Owens, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on December 1, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Doc was born on October 21, 1919, in Missouri to Inez (Holland) and Martin Edwards Owens. In 1962, he married Ruth Kimble in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was the part owner of the Buckaroo Night Club, and also worked as a manager at the XL Tire Company. Doc loved hunting, fishing, having morning coffee with his friends and training his Labrador Retriver hunting doge. He was preceded in death by his son Douglas Owens and son-in-law Larry Cook. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Owens of Sheridan; one sister, Gladys Peterman of Clarinda, Idaho; one brother, Richard Owens of Weston, Coloradi; six children, Sandy Wasson of Byron, Wyoming, Edward (Eddie) of Sparks, nevada, Dave Owens of Sheridan, Nancy Cook of Sheridan, Gary Long of Tucson, Arizonia, and Michael Long of Spearfish, South Dakota; numerous grand children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Kane Funeral Home handeled the arrangements.
Claudia Kay “Clyde” Plachek Age 46 of Sheridan, WY
Died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born March 21, 1954, in Sheridan
Parents - Phillip, Sr. & Maxine (Bilyeu) Gifford
She grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan. She attended Park School of Fashion in Denver, CO. She managed The Closet clothing store in Gillette, WY. Claudia married Gary Plachek on September 26, 1984, in Sheridan. She worked as a pharmacy technician for the Medicine Shoppe for a time. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Claudia was an avid reader and also enjoyed going to the mountains, fishing, cooking, sewing and crocheting. She loved being at home taking care of her family.

Louis H. Plachek Age 76 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born October 16, 1923, in Acme, WY
Parents - Joseph & Anna (Stanko) Plachek
He grew up in Acme, attending schools there through the 8th grade and then graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943. He worked for the Sheridan Wyo Coal Co. during W.W.II. Louis married Della Sneath on July 1, 1950, in Sheridan. He worked as a bartender at the Sheridan Inn, Lotus and the Kalif Shrine. Later he began work at Stevens Fryberger where he worked for twenty years as a clerk in the Men’s Dept. until he retired. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge #43 and the York Rite Bodies. He was past treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union and past secretary of the United Mine Workers. Louis enjoyed yardwork, animals and his family & friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe of Homeland, CA, sisters Marie Wright of Spokane, WA, Anna Kryana and Teresa Zowada both of Sheridan.

Mike Poulos, 77, of Sheridan passed away Thursday, October 19, 2000 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1923 , in Cleveland, Ohio to Steve and Olga Kamanos Poulos. Mike graduated from Sheridan High School in 1948.
On July 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen M. Leath in Sheridan. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific. His first trade as a meat cutter his entire lifetime, processing in both Sheridan and Johnson Counties for the past 50 years. Mike retired from the Sheridan Fire Department after 23 years of service. He was a 55 year member of the 7th Calvalry Drum and Bugle Corps, which made him the longest serving active member. He was an avid fisherman, accomplished musician playing in several local bands, and enjoyed watching sporting events with a speical passion for the Broncos. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Post #7.
He is survived by his daughter, Melody Sue Poulos-Hangenlock and son-in-law, Lewis Hagenlock of Greeley, Colorado; three sisters, Helen Johnson of Shoshone, California, Francis Petrovich of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Mary Caprielian of Palm Springs, California; brother Louie Poulos of Sheridan; and grandson, Nicolas Dean Hagenlock; six nephews; one niece; three great nieces; three great nephews; and numerous friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Monday, October 23, 2000, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 11am Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Deacon Joe Kristufek and Reverend Ray Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. A reception will be held at the American Legion Club. Memorials may be made to the 7th Calvary Drum and Bugle Corps. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Thomas Powers, 89, of Sheridan passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2000 at powder River Manor, Broadus, MT. He was born May 15, 1911 in Slack, Wyoming to Phineas and Jennie Powers.
Robert was born at the home of hid Grandparents Thomas A. and Milicent Powers. He graduated in Sheridan and was a member of the National Honor Society. Robert was a lifelong rancher retiring in 1986. He loved cattle ranching and was a real cowman. His ranch was located in the Bear Creek community. Although he did not have kids of his own, his house was always full of kids. Robert was known as Uncle Bob to all the children in Quietus and Otter County. He was also very civic minded. He always gave generously to any community project.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette Hess of Seattle, Washington and Natalie Avery of Gillette, WY. He is survived by two brothers, Gilbert Powers of Otter, Montana and Phillip Powers of Grand Junction, Colorado and Eleanor Avery of Seattle, Washington. Also, many nieces and nephews.
Robert took care of his mother until her death.
Funeral Service will be 2pm Thursday, August 17, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Goodwim. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
Carl Prestfeldt, age 90 of Sheridan WY
Died Sunday, August 6, 2000, in Phoenix, AR.
Born June 14, 1910, in Munkfors, Sweden
He emigrated to the U.S. in 1927 and worked in various locales including Fort Peck during the depression. He married Marguerite Nelson in 1939 and worked in Bremerton Ship Works during WW11. After the war, they moved to Sheridan and worked for her father, N.A. Nelson, where Carl was a superintendent for the construction company. Following Carls' back surgery in the early 1950's, they wound the Triangle Service Station and Motel, the Holiday Lodge and Sundown Motel, respectively. They retired in 1976 and Mrs. Prestfeldt died in 1998. Because of his health, Carl moved to Phoenix to be close to his daughter. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge #520 and the Kalif Shrine.
Precede in death by one daughter, Signora.

David F. Prill Age 81 of Ranchester, WY
Died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan, WY
Born September 21, 1918, in Elgin, Illinois
Parents - Fred & Anna Prill
He came to Parkman, WY, when he was a young boy. He moved to Alaska in the early 1930’s where he worked in the sawmill and then built his own boat and became a commercial salmon fisherman. He was drafted in the Army in 1941. He married Mary Leadbeater on November 4, 1944, in Fairbanks, AK. After the service, he returned to Ranchester, WY, and founded Prill Brothers with his brother Leroy. He retired in 1991. Mary died in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking.
