Donald Kovar
Donald Kovar, 72, of Sheridan died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kovar was born May 28, 1934, in Flasher, N.D., to Lewis and Minnie (Linde) Kovar. He left school and went to work at an early age, eventually becoming a truck driver. He married
Phyllis Goetzinger. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a brother, Ray of Buffalo; and a sister, Florence Hatzenbuhler of Buffalo.
E.W. `Breezy' Morris II
Memorial services for E.W. Breezy Morris II, 66, of Story will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Morris died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born March 30, 1940, in Sheridan to E.W. and Carolyn Emily Morris. He grew up and attended school in Sheridan and was a 1958 graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the Navy after graduation and served for four years. Following his discharge, he returned to Sheridan and worked as a mechanic, logger and truck driver. He lived in Story for the past 30 years. He volunteered at Camp Bethel for several years. A member of the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include a son, E.W. Stormy Morris III of Durango, Colo.; a daughter, Tanya Jackson of Jenks, Okla.; two sisters, Justine Hart of Sheridan and Lorelei Morris of Green River; and five grandchildren. Lena E. Lyle
Memorial services for Lena E. Lyle, 85, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. R.H. Robinson officiating. Services will be followed by a luncheon for family and friends at 732 S. Sheridan Ave. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A time of sharing for family and friends will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Lyle died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Moline, Ill., to John Virgil and Mattie (Lowery) Whiles. She grew up and attended schools in Kewanee, Ill. She married
Steven H. Lyle on Oct. 18, 1938, in Davenport, Ill. The family lived in Sheffield, Ill., and Kewanee before moving to Sheridan in 1970. Mrs. Lyle was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and bowler and also enjoyed fishing, the mountains, wildlife and being with her family. She was a Denver Broncos fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include five sons, Gary of Rawlins, Larry of Moline, Dave of Sheridan and Phil and John, both of Tiskilwa, Ill.; a daughter, Josanne Baker of Sheridan; a brother, Richard Whiles of Coal Valley, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Lucille Powers
Lucille Powers, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 5, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Goodin officiating. Reece Bradford Gale
Funeral services for Reece Bradford Gale, infant son of Wendy (Carroll) and John Gale of Sheridan, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery under direction of Kane Funeral Home. The infant was born, and died, Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Mary Rojo, Servio Carroll Sr., Harvey Brick Gordon, Imogene and Paul Mock and John and Rose Gale. In addition to his parents, survivors, all of Sheridan, include his grandparents, Lynn Gordon, Servio and Mary Carroll and Vesta and Larry Gale; his great-grandparents, Laveta Dinnebeck, Adelaida Carroll and Oscar J. Reine S. Johnson
Private family services are planned for Reine S. Johnson, 81, of Sheridan, with inurnment of cremains to be with her family in France. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson died Friday, July 31, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. She was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Franconville, France, to Gustave Eugene and Mina (Aberle) Alix. She grew up and attended school in Franconville. She moved to Sheridan following a wartime marriage. She and her husband divorced. She worked as a waitress and, later, a meter maid for the city of Sheridan. Survivors include a son, Dan, of Tempe, Ariz.; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the mountains, gardening, sewing, cooking, and her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Tim of Sheridan; a daughter, Celia Dannison of Kerrville, Texas; and one grandchild. Albert Kurpjuweit
Memorial services for Albert Kurpjuweit, 72, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Mr. Kurpjuweit died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at his residence. Cremation has taken place according to his request. He was born March 9, 1934, in Brewster, Neb., to Albert and Ida (White) Kurpjuweit. He was a 1952 graduate of Ainsworth High School. He joined the Navy in 1953 and served until 1963, when he was honorably discharged. He married
Katherine Sally Adsit in Sheridan in 1995. She preceded him in death. He was a member of the Elks Club and American Legion. He enjoyed Western history and fishing. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Thea Adamo of Wheatland and Trisha Sanzari of Riverside, Calif.; a son, Brad of Stanton, Calif.; three brothers, Melvin of Lincoln, Neb., Wayne of Sheridan and James of Seattle; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Helen Jeanene Edden Sanford

Elizabeth W. Prusak
Former Sheridan-area resident Elizabeth W. Prusak, 99, died June 30, 2006, in Bend, Ore., of natural causes, according to her family. Cremation has taken place, and private family graveside services were in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Prusak was born March 28, 1907, in Monroe, Iowa, to John and Mary (Verosko) Demchock. She attended schools on Dutch Creek and Thermopolis. She married
Andrew Prusak on May 30, 1925. They resided on the Ulm Divide in Sheridan County, where Mr. Prusak worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. They purchased a homestead and ranched in the area. Mrs. Prusak was a member of the Catholic Church and Wyoming Stock Growers Association. She was involved in bond promotions during World War II. She enjoyed ranch work and being around livestock. She was preceded in death by Mr. Prusak in 1983 and by seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Andrew J. of Bend and Robert J. of Sheridan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fern M. Willis
Fern M. Willis, 88, of Sullivan, Ind., died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at her residence. She was mother of Gary Sherman Willis of Story. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Sullivan's First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial will be in Greenhill cemetery in Sullivan. Mrs. Willis was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Sullivan County, Ind., to Kentz Sylvester and Maude Mansfield Morrical. She was a member of the Sullivan First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deaconess and belonged to the Geneva Guild. She also belonged to Moultrie County Home Extension and had served as a leader for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls. She married
Sherman E. Willis on April 23, 1941, in Vincennes, Ind. He died Aug. 26, 1992. In addition, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. In addition to her son, survivors include two daughters, Jan Stuart of Troy, Ill., and Leesa Willis of Gaithersburg, Md.; three sisters, Ruby Hand of Eldred, Pa., Reva Haines of Brownsburg, Ind., and Rae Dabelow of Galveston, Ind.; one brother, Kentz Morrical of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Madonna Wilson Buell Beeson
Madonna Wilson Buell Beeson, 75, of Big Horn died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at her residence. Private family burial services were Tuesday in Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn under direction of Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Beeson was born June 27, 1931, in Sheridan to Lawrence and Loretta (Baker) Wilson. She began her education as a Licensed Professional Nurse at 16 in her grandmother's maternity home and worked as an LPN in Ohio. She later worked at the Wyoming Girls School. She married
Walt Buell in January 1949 in Sheridan. He died 16 years later. She married
Dwight Beeson on July 4, 1973. He died 19 years later. She was also preceded in death by a stepsister, Ruth Irwin. She was special friend of Donald W. King. Survivors include three sons, Rick Buell of Gillette, Roy Beeson of Grand Junction, Colo., and Dale Beeson of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Cathy Zigmund of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Riley Wilson of Harrison, Mont.; a half sister, Andrea Johnson of Zillah, Wash.; a stepsister, Wyoma Schurch of Roland, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Ruth Ford Slack
Graveside services for Ruth Ford Slack, 84, of Big Horn will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sheridan Elks cemetery with the Rev. Ron Nelson officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Ford died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Edison, Neb., to Lula Augusta (Wheeler) and the Rev. William Henry Harrison Lee. She was a graduate of Polk (Neb.) High School, attended college in MePherson, Kan., and received nurse's training in Sheridan. She married
E. Gene Ford on April 1, 1943, in Alliance, Neb. He preceded her in death. She married
Victor Slack on Feb. 16, 2005, in Sheridan. They lived on the Box Cross Ranch in Big Horn. She worked as a nurse in Gillette and at Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was a member for more than 50 years of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a lifetime member of Sheridan County Hospital Auxiliary, a charter member of the Does, and a member of Sheridan Elks Club 520. She also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries, Snowmads, and the Wagon Box Good Sams Club. She enjoyed gardening, the mountains, dancing, fishing, snow-machining, travel, playing cards, and being with family and friends. She made clothes for herself and her family. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Ford, who was killed in Vietnam, and by two brothers and six sisters. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rodney Ford of Pittsburgh and William Ford of Sheridan; a daughter, Rayma Ford Costigan of Denver; a sister, Joann Stepp of Tahlequah, Okla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Donald E. Becker
Memorial services for Donald E. Becker, 80, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church in Worland with the Rev. Grover Briggs officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Becker died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to George and Mae (Robinson) Becker. He grew up and graduated from high school in Onida, S.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and rose to the rank of quartermaster 2. After the service, he graduated from South Dakota State University. He received a master's degree in agribusiness from the University of Wyoming. He married
Betty Jane Davis on Oct. 28, 1950, in Rapid City. They lived in the Lander-Riverton area, where he worked for the Federal Land Bank. He was transferred to Worland in 1960 as a vice president for the Federal Land Bank. After retiring from the bank, he was an independent farm and ranch appraiser until 1994. He moved to Sheridan in 2000 to be near his daughters. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Worland, the Masonic Lodge in Worland and South Dakota, Kalif Shrine, Lions Club, and Worland Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed golf, skiing and ice cream. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a son, Kevin of Cheyenne; two daughters, Kathy Winkelmann and Karen Becker, both of Sheridan; and two grandchildren. Theresa Jean Giles
Sheridan native Theresa Jean Giles, 43, of Cheyenne died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in Cheyenne. Private family services will be later in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Schrader Funeral Home of Cheyenne. Mrs. Giles was born Aug. 19, 1963, in Sheridan to Ken and Carol Elliott. She was a nurse with the Dialysis Center. She was preceded in death by her mother. Survivors include a daughter, Melanie of Cheyenne; her father of Sheridan; and two brothers, Mark Elliott of Gillette and Ken Jr. of Fairbanks, Alaska.
