Marian J. Ratcliff
Marian Jean Ratcliff, 75, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Bustard Funeral Home, Casper, with burial in Highland cemetery. No viewing will take place. Born Nov. 23, 1930, in Big Horn to Catherine and John H. Mills, she graduated from Big Horn High School and married
Robert P. Ratcliff in 1948. They divorced. Mrs. Ratcliff was a homemaker and had worked at Credit Bureau of Casper. She spent her last six years in Sheridan and was known as a loving and caring person. She enjoyed watching Colorado Rockies baseball on TV. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Ratcliff; a daughter, Linda Ratcliff Anderson; a grandson, David Wert; and a sister, Helen Mills. Survivors include two sons, Clay Ratcliff of Sheridan and Richard Ratcliff of Casper; a daughter, Peggy Wert of Casper; two sisters, Peggy Kethman and Marjie Long, both of Sheridan; a brother, John Mills of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Darlene C. Hartman
Private family services will be later for Darlene C. Hartman, 57, of Sheridan. Mrs. Hartman died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hartman was born Nov. 29, 1948, in Sheridan to Ralph and Olga Walker. After she graduated from Sheridan High School, she went to work for Sheridan Meat Co. and Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She married
Charles Hartman in 1973. They divorced. She enjoyed being with family and friends, playing with her cat, Squeakers, and attending her son's sporting events. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years and an avid bingo player. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her mother of Sheridan; a son, Marc of Sheridan; two brothers, Jim Walker of Arizona and Tom Walker of Sheridan; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Shirley Mae Markley
Shirley Mae Markley, 67, of Sheridan died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. At her request, no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Markley was born April 13, 1939, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Stanley Coats and Mae (Patterson) Mount. She grew up and attended schools in Fayetteville and was a 1958 graduate of Fayetteville High School. She married
Wayne Markley in Greeley, Colo., after graduating from high school. The couple later moved to California. Mrs. Marley moved to Sheridan in 1996. She was manager of an apartment complex for First Christian Church until 2002 and was a certified nurse's aide at Sheridan Manor. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with neighbors and friends, her two cats and her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son. Survivors include a son, Gary of Montrose, Colo.; two daughters, Terri Johnson of Montrose and Trisha of San Diego; a brother, Gary Mount of Kersey, Colo.; a sister, Joana of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Barbara Norris Moore
Funeral services for former Big Horn resident Barbara Norris Moore, 71, of Kennewick, Wash., were Friday in Kennewick. She died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, after a six-year battle with cancer, according to her family. She was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Newcastle to Bernice and Carl Norris. Her mother died when she was a child, and she was raised by her stepmother, Ora Norris. She attended school in Big Horn beginning in third grade and graduated from Big Horn High School. She married
Phillip Moore in 1952 in Big Horn. They later moved to Lewiston, Idaho, then to Kennewick. Mrs. Moore was an avid fisherwoman and golfer. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Holloway Morgan. Survivors include four daughters, Cindy, Carla, Kathy and Sylvia; a son, Ronald; a brother, Jack Norris; three sisters, Lola Hauf, Jo Elaine Bedsaul and Carolyn Griffith; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
John Joseph Rust
Former Sheridan resident John Joseph Rust, 72, of Torrington died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at his residence. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Douglas Park cemetery in Douglas. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Colyer Funeral Home. Mr. Rust was born Aug. 5, 1934 in Sinclair to Joseph Lee and Dorothy Nettie (Logan) Rust. He grew up in Douglas and graduated from Douglas High School. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He married
Yvonne McCloud in 1957 in Norman, Okla. They were divorced. He attended Regis College in Denver for one year, then completed his education at the University of Wyoming. He was a pharmacist in Wyoming for many years, owning Frontier Drugstore in Douglas and serving as president of the State Board of Pharmacy. He married
Patricia Ryan on May 21, 1982, in Jackson Hole. They lived in Sheridan for several years before moving to Torrington two years ago. Mr. Rust was a member of the American Legion and played the piano and organ. He enjoyed golf and fly-fishing, and he was an avid University of Wyoming football and Denver Broncos fan. He served as a baseball umpire for youth games for many years. Survivors include his wife, Pat; a son, Tony of Eugene, Ore.; two daughters, Kelly Graham of Cheyenne and Tracy Giesenhagen of Green River; a stepdaughter, Heather Halle of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Mike of Cheyenne; and seven grandchildren. Marjorie H. Ferren
Memorial services for Marjorie H. Ferren, 93, of Sheridan will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Mrs. Ferren died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1912, in Sheridan to Joseph and Olinda (Schumacher) Heisler. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Wyoming. She married
Jack E. Ferren on March 30, 1934, in Golden, Colo. She was a homemaker and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting in the Big Horn Mountains. She was founding president of the UW chapter of the national Chi Omega Sorority, a member and founding president of P.E.R.L.S. and was involved with social events at Sheridan Elks Lodge. She was preceded in death by a son, Gene. Survivors include her husband; a son, David of Penfield, N.Y.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Charles `Bob' Rogers
Funeral services for Charles Bob Rogers, 88, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Wiederspahn Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne. He died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Rogers was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Wheatland to Ralph and Mae Rogers. He worked on ranches in the Chugwater and Pinedale areas before serving in Company C of the 157th Regiment, U.S. Army, during World War II. He was honorably discharged, then went to work for Continental Pipeline for 32 years. He married
Irene Derby on May 31, 1938. She preceded him in death. He moved to Sheridan recently to be closer to family. Mr. Rogers was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 50-year member of the Masons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl. Survivors include his children, Charlene of Superior, Colo., George of Sheridan, Edith Harbuz and John of Casper, and Trisha Lewis of Wasilla, Alaska; a sister, Betty Jean Sayers of Missouri; a brother, Donald of Pinedale; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bryan Clifton McHenry
Memorial services for Bryan Clifton McHenry, 52, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church. Mr. McHenry died Monday, July 31, 2006. A full obituary was published in The Sheridan Press on Aug. 5.
Roman J. Legerski Sr.
Funeral services for Roman J. Legerski Sr., 73, of Monarch will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Elks cemetery. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Legerski died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born March 17, 1933, in Monarch to George W. and Anna (Zowada) Legerski Sr. He attended Monarch School and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He worked with his father, raising show bulls and learning the meat processing business. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then returned to Sheridan and attended Sheridan College. He managed the family ranch, then sold insurance and real estate until returning to the family's Sheridan Meat Co. He married
Norma Dunn on Jan. 5, 1976, in Sheridan. After the Sheridan Meat Co. closed, Mr. Legerski opened Legerski Processing in Monarch at the site of his father's original meat plant. He was a life member of the Sheridan Elks and enjoyed fishing, camping and being with his family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Pilch, and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife, of Monarch; three sons, Roman Jr. of Ranchester, Tony Farella Jr. of Newcastle and Ty Farella of Newcastle; three daughters, Tammy Anthony and Lori Zowada, both of Sheridan, and Carol Rossman of Newcastle; two brothers, George W. and John D., both of Sheridan; four sisters, Elizabeth Stanko of Gordon, Neb., Erma Pagliocca of Freehold, N.J., Anne Presenkowski of Denver and Helen Siegoski of Buffalo; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Barbara Mark
Former Sheridan resident Barbara Mark, 66, of Clairemont, Calif., died July 23, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services were Aug. 4 at Sweden Borgian Church in San Diego. She was born Nov. 2, 1939, in Joplin, Mo., and grew up in Webster City, Iowa. She studied literature and public speaking at the University of Iowa, worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines and later managed a radio station in Fort Collins, Colo., and hosted a radio show in Wyoming. She lived in Sheridan before moving to San Diego in 1988. She also was a certified handwriting analyst. She co-authored four books on Angelspeake, based on her belief in communication with angels. She also traveled, conducting workshops on Angelspeake. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Mark of Salt Lake City and Stephanie Roberts of Soldotna, Alaska; a son, Michael Mark of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Trudy Griswold of Holiday, Fla., and Jackie Anderson of Webster City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and her companion, Philip Schwartz. Robert R. `Bob' Murdock
A celebration of the life of Sheridan native Robert R. Bob Murdock, 75, of Buffalo will be 2 p.m. Monday at Buffalo Wesleyan Church. A reception in the church hall will follow. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home of Sheridan. Mr. Murdock died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1931, in Sheridan to Ruth (Montgomery) and George Murdock. He graduated from Sheridan High School and went to work on the family ranch. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea and was honorably discharged. He married
Diann Perrigo in 1954 in San Jose, Calif. They moved to the family ranch in Ranchester. Mr. Murdock attended Hiemans Business College. The family moved to Sheridan, and Mr. Murdock worked at the VAMC in supply. He served on the Sheridan City Council and was a member of Sheridan Elks Lodge. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 1975, when Mr. Murdock was promoted to chief of supply for the VA hospital system. He later worked for VA hospitals in Beckley, W.Va., and Hot Springs, S.D. He received a national commendation for outstanding service to the VA. After retiring from the VA, he moved to Buffalo. He enjoyed gardening and was recognized for growing a 100-pound pumpkin. He learned about sheep ranching at the Nine Mile Ranch in Kaycee. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in the Big Horn Mountains, bowling, picnics, parades and being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Wendy Pheasant of Buffalo, Linda Julian of Goodyear, Ariz., and Beth Forrest and Vicki Ball, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Jeff of East Maitland, Australia; and 12 grandchildren. Kenneth Clayton Morris
Funeral services for Sheridan native Kenneth Clayton Morris, 38, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Morris died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006. He was born Nov. 7, 1967, in Sheridan to Verne C. and Carrien (McKennan) Morris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Panama-Noriega crisis. He attended Holy Name School and Sheridan High School. He participated in youth baseball and basketball and enjoyed sports, camping, attending his father's stock car races, and culinary arts. He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather Kenneth Morris; and grandmother Evelyn Kehrwald. Survivors include his wife, Allison, of San Antonio; children Alexis, John and Ashley, all of San Antonio, Charlotte of Sheridan and Amy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother of Laramie; one brother, Eugene of Falls City, Neb.; a sister, Carol Price Keahey of Laramie; grandfather Clifford Kehrwald of Sheridan; and grandmother Helen Gosnell of Yuma, Ariz.
Stephen Bryan Spade
Former Buffalo resident Stephen Bryan Spade, 56, of Alaska and Wyoming died Sunday, Aug. 6, in a motorcycle accident in Alaska. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo, with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with military graveside honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. William H. Biesterfeld Jr.
William H. Biesterfeld Jr., 73, of Sheridan died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at his residence. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. LaVere C. Graham (Miller)
Funeral services for LaVere C. Graham (Miller), 81, of Story will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Zillmer officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Graham died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Casper to Benjamin and Aryeka (Rasmussen) Chastain. The family moved to Rock Springs, and she was a 1943 graduate of Rock Springs High School. She graduated in 1945 from Colorado Women's College in Denver. She married
William S. Graham in 1948 in Sheridan. They lived on the family ranch west of Wyola, Mont., until they retired. Mrs. Graham was a bookkeeper and homemaker. Mr. Graham died in 1975. Mrs. Graham later married
Len Miller; they were divorced. She was a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and was the first president of the Sheridan Chapter, a past state president of the Montana General Federation of Women's Clubs, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, gardening, computers and spending time with her family. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a stepbrother. Survivors include a son, Eric S. Graham of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra L. Canfield of Story; a brother, Benjamin Chastain of Sheridan; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Story Volunteer Fire Department, Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Charles Marvin `Chuck' Betz
Former Sheridan resident Charles Marvin Chuck Betz, 62, of Buffalo died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Lavato officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel. Private burial by the family will follow the services. Mr. Betz was born April 11, 1944, on the family ranch in northeastern Johnson County to Alvin and Mary Vannoy Betz. He grew up on the family ranch and attended school in Clearmont. At 15, he went to work as a cowboy for the Brown and Kennedy Ranch on Powder River. He worked on ranches in Johnson, Sheridan and Campbell counties until he bought his first truck and went into the livestock-hauling business. He married
Sharon Haskin in January 1962 in Gillette. They made their home in Buffalo. They were divorced in 1971. Mr. Betz later married
Hilary Jensen, and they made their home in Sheridan. They later divorced. Mr. Betz later married
Erma Enochs Leonard. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Buffalo. He enjoyed reading, rodeo and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons. Survivors include three daughters, Randi Betz of Buffalo, Joyce Jeppesen of Eureka, Nev., and Shelley Betz of Lander; five brothers, Jim and Wayne of Buffalo, Bernard of Clearmont, Ralph of Caldwell, Idaho, and Bob of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one sister Mary Lou Minor of Medford, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
