Erma Jean Deliramich
Erma Jean Deliramich, 79, of Sheridan died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Masonic 43 cemetery with committal rites by Order of the Eastern Star. Beth Morgareidge Smith
Former Sheridan resident Beth Morgareidge Smith, 90, of Buffalo died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Su DeBree officiating. A private family burial will follow. Mrs. Smith was born May 9, 1915, on Dutch Creek east of Sheridan. The family moved to the Big Horn Mountains above Buffalo when she was a child, and she attended the Hunter Ranger Station Elementary School. The family later returned to Sheridan, and she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934 and attended Hines Business College here. She later worked in a medical clinic in Worland. She married
Lloyd Malcom in Worland in 1938. They resided in Lovell. She worked for the J.C. Penney Co. for six years, then 25 years for Pacific Power. Mr. Malcom died in 1983. Mrs. Smith moved to Buffalo in 1985 to be near her family. She married
Leroy Smith that same year. He preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two stepsons, Larry Smith of Kaycee and Harold Smith; a stepdaughter, Sandra Schrunk of Arizona; and five step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the funeral home.
Chloe McLain
Chloe McLain, infant daughter of Monte and Chanel (Evans) McLain of Gillette, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Denver of a heart condition. She was granddaughter of Jim and Cheryl McLain of Dayton. Private family services are planned at Prince of Peace Church in Gillette with the Rev. Chad Brucklacher officiating. Arrangements are with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Chloe was born Dec. 18, 2005, in Gillette. Shortly after her birth, she was diagnosed with a heart problem and taken to Denver for treatment. Doretta Lucille (Potts) Good
Funeral services for Doretta Lucille (Potts) Good, 80, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherman Weberg officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Good died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Sheridan Manor after a long illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Fillmore, Mo., to Albert and Callie Potts. She was a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area. She married
George Oliver Good on Sept. 2, 1952. Mr. Good died in 1969. Mrs. Good enjoyed cooking and making pastries. She was a member of the Sheridanaires. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Dorvan and Garland Potts; a half brother, Grove Theriault; and a stepbrother, John Shaw. Survivors include a son, Darren Lee Good; a sister, Nadine H. (Shaw) Roberts of Big Horn; a stepsister, Eloise (Shaw) Young of Anchorage, Alaska; and one grandson.
Ray William Moore
Ray William Moore, 79, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006. He was father of Rae Vanderhoef of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with committal services. Mr. Moore was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Huntington, Ind., to Ray and Minnie Moore. He grew up in Warren, Ind., and was a 1944 graduate of Warren High School. He joined the U.S. Army after high school and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to Warren after the war. He married
Barbara Bradford on Oct. 28, 1951, in Wabash, Ind. They moved to Crane, Texas, where Mr. Moore worked in the oil fields. He later worked in oil fields all over the world, including the North Slope of Alaska and Pakistan. They settled in Buffalo in 1966. Mr. Moore continued to work in oil fields until 1988, when he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the Big Horn Mountains. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife; a second son, Bob of Fallon, Nev.; a brother, Lloyd of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Sharon Detamore of Warren; and two grandchildren. Rhea Ellen Kline Langworthy
Rhea Ellen Kline Langworthy, 98, of Buffalo died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, in Amy Holt Care Center in Buffalo. She was mother of Baird Langworthy of Story. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at First Christian Church in Billings. A reception at the church will follow. Graveside committal services will be 3 p.m. Jan. 23 in Mountview cemetery in Billings. Mrs. Langworthy was born April 22, 1907, in Brazil, Ind., to Arthur O. and Nettie Kline. She attended high school and college at Billings Polytechnic Institute (now Rocky Mountain College), where her father taught business and math. She was a 1930 graduate of Drake University in Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in music. She sang lead roles in the Polytechnic Light Opera Company and was a member of the Poly Sextette singing group. Both groups performed in Montana and northern Wyoming promoting the college. She married
Alan W. Langworthy in 1932. They divorced. Mrs. Langworthy taught for 16 years, mainly at the McKinley School in Billings. Her main interests were music, reading, crossword puzzles and needlework. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific islands. She was a charter member of her PEO chapter, served on the board of the American Association of University Women, and was a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Kline; and two sisters, Margaret McKay and Dorothy O'Conner. Survivors include three other sons, James of Silver Spring, Md., Dan of Federal Way, Wash., and Ron of Fort Fairfield, Maine; a sister, Betty Powers of Billings; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Leslie William Torok
Former Sheridan resident Leslie William Torok, 53, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Drive in Sheridan. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with committal services. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mr. Torok was born Oct. 18, 1952, in Toronto to William and Helen Torok. The family moved to Southern California when he was 12, and he graduated from high school in Long Beach in 1970. He attended Long Beach University for two years before transferring to the University of California-San Francisco. He graduated with degrees in English and journalism. He was circulation manager for Antic Magazine. He married
Dixie Nicholas in April 1989 in Tucson, Ariz. They owned and operated a retail shop in Tucson before moving to Sheridan in 1993. Mr. Torok was director of marketing for American Direct here. Mrs. Torok died in October 2000. Mr. Torok moved to Pierre, S.D., then to Buffalo in 2003. He was an avid reader and wrote articles and stories. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his children picnicking and fishing in the mountains. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Sam and William, and a daughter, Susannah, all of Buffalo; and his father and stepmother, William and Judy Torok of Banning, Calif. Jackson D. Bentley
Sheridan native Jackson D. Bentley, 97, of Peoria, Ariz., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, in Peoria. A memorial service will be Saturday in Peoria under direction of Best Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson was born April 9, 1908, in Sheridan to Bishop O. and Antonia (Dierfeld) Bentley. He attended elementary school in Sheridan and was a 1925 graduate of St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. He was a 1929 graduate of Ripon (Wis.) College. He married
Louise Huelsman in 1930 in Fond du Lac, Wis. They moved to Sheridan, and Mr. Bentley owned and operated Bentley Clothing Store, which was started in 1906 by B.O. Bentley. Jackson D. Bentley sold the store to Ray Neighbors and Herman Castle in 1956. He was a member of the Masonic Bodies Free Masonry, Lodge 8 A.F. & A.M. for more than 50 years and the Kalif Shrine and York Rite for 69 years. He belonged to St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan and St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Sun City, Ariz., after moving to Arizona. He owned a ranch at Ulm. His wife died in 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Pisaneschi of Hereford, Ariz., and Patricia Fox of Cheyenne; a son, Jackson Bentley Jr. of Elmira, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Florence P. Jester
Sheridan County native Florence P. Jester, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Kingston Residence (nursing home) in Marion, Ohio. A private family service is planned later. Burial is in Marion cemetery. Arrangements are with Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Mrs. Jester was born April 23, 1924, in Monarch to Michael and Anna (Sieczkowski) Kawulok. She was a 1942 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Wilbur Q. Jester in 1944; he died in 1996. She was an assistant director of the Veterans Administration in Cleveland. Survivors include two sons, Thomas of Marion and Michael of Homestead, Fla.; a sister, Elaine Wondra of Ranchester; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. M. Jane Durkee
A private memorial service for M. Jane Durkee, 77, of Sheridan will be later for her family. Mrs. Durkee died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Durkee was born June 13, 1928, to Harry and Pauline Lewis. She grew up in the Sheridan area and worked on ranches with her family. She received an emergency degree and taught in a one-room school in Recluse. She married
Carl L. Durkee in 1952. The family lived in Meeteetse and, later, Casper, where Mrs. Durkee was a bookkeeper. The Durkees moved to Sheridan after their children were grown. Mrs. Durkee enjoyed the Big Horn Mountains, cooking and being around horses. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; a son, Jerry; brothers Jack, Ralph and Bob Lewis; a sister, Jenny Moyer; and a granddaughter. Survivors include two daughters, Pat Beard and Polly Carpenter; two sisters, Betty Conner and Jo Smith, both of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Robert W. McBride
Robert W. McBride, 88, of Buffalo and Honolulu died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, in Hawaii. He was father of Robert K. McBride of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Union Congregational Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Nancy Brooks officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. until noon Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. McBride was born Jan. 21, 1918, to Samuel and Nercilla Fullerton McBride at the family ranch south of Buffalo. He grew up on the ranch and was a 1936 graduate of Johnson County High School. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and served as eminent commander. He was a member of the UW student senate, Iron Skull, Phi Epsilon Phi and a cheerleader. He married
Marie Kennedy on May 4, 1941, in Laramie. She died in Hawaii in January 1997. Mr. McBride was in UW's ROTC when the United States entered World War II, and he was called into active duty as a second lieutenant in the Army. He served in the European Theater with the 109th Infantry, 28th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Hertgen Forest. He was captured by the Germans and was a prisoner of war until his liberation by the Russian army. He received the Bronze Star and Silver Star for gallantry in action. He returned to Buffalo after the war. He remained in the active Reserve until he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He worked as sales manager with Wyoming Automotive in Buffalo and Torrington from 1945 until joining First National Bank in Buffalo in 1946. He retired from First National in 1988 as president and chairman of the bank's board of directors. He and his partner, Bob Holt, also operated Johnson County Insurance Agency for 25 years, and Mr. McBride was involved in ranching with a brother, Kelly. After retiring, he and Mrs. McBride enjoyed travel, spending time with their grandchildren and being at their cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. He also enjoyed dancing, golf, telling stories, fly-fishing and reading history books, especially about Abraham Lincoln. He kept a vegetable garden until he was 85. He married
Maria Santos in Hawaii in August 1998, and they made their home in Buffalo and Honolulu. They enjoyed dancing and traveling. Mr. McBride was a member and Sunday school superintendent of the Congregational Church in Buffalo for 20 years. He was a member of the Republican Party, Buffalo 4-H and the state 4-H Foundation, Rotary (where he was a Paul Harris Fellow), Anchor Lodge No. 7 AF and AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Jim Gatchell Museum, Fort Phil Kearny/Bozeman Trail Association, Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, the park board, YMCA Foundation, Wyoming Industrial Development Corp. and Buffalo's Diamond Jubilee organizers. He also was a director and treasurer of the Big Horn Mountain Roundup. He served six years on the UW board of trustees and was president of the Alumni Association board. He received the university's Outstanding Alumni Award in 1990. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sam, who was killed in World War II. Survivors include a second son, Scott F. of Buffalo; a daughter, Debby Hunkins of Wheatland; a brother, Kelly of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Meredith A. `Jimi' Kerns
Sheridan County native Meredith A. Jimi Kerns, 77, of Yuma, Ariz., died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at her home of natural causes. Cremation has taken place, and services are planned this summer at the family cemetery on Double Rafter Ranch on Pass Creek. Arrangements are with Sunset Vista Funeral Home and Crematory in Yuma. Mrs. Kerns was born May 9, 1928, in Sheridan to Dorothy and Dave Wallace. She grew up on the family ranch near Parkman, where she taught school for four years. She married
Burton C. Kerns on Feb. 22, 1953, on the ranch. She enjoyed being a ranch wife and was also an artist and author. She was involved with the Dog and Cat Shelter in Sheridan and belonged to Parkman Homemakers club. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Hamilton, and a son, Kevin. Helen Ewoldsen
Former Sheridan resident Helen J. Ewoldsen, 84, of Avon, Ind., died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services will be Tuesday in Avon. She married
C.B. Bud Ewoldsen in 1951 in Sheridan. They worked for Eatons' Ranch at the time. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Amy; two sons, George and Nels; one sister; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to a recipient of the donor's choice.
Eugene William `Mike' DesJarlais
Eugene William Mike DesJarlais, 96, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. DesJarlais was born July 21, 1909, on a farm near Bonesteel, Gregory County, S.D., to Edmond J. and Mae Angela (Rowland) DesJarlais. He lived in Scottsbluff, Neb., Casper and Sheridan while he was growing up. As a teen, he worked as a waiter and bellman at the Sheridan Inn. In his early 20s, he ran whiskey with his father and brothers from Casper to San Antonio. In his mid-20s, he traveled back and forth from Sheridan to New York City to study opera. He later helped build the petroleum tank farm in Evansville, worked as a carpenter in Las Vegas and at the Salt Flats atomic testing grounds near there and in the uranium mines in the Gas Hills near Riverton. He was custodian at Holy Name School in Sheridan in the 1950s. He married
Wanda Allie on June 14, 1957, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Spokane, Wash. He enjoyed cooking, playing his guitar and singing, working on his truck and Greyhound bus and drinking coffee and visiting with friends. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and past member of United Mine Workers of America. He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene; two brothers, Henry and Ralph; and five sisters, Eva Barrett, Laura Dahlquist, Esther Lynch, Fern Rumley and Alice Stolcis. Peter `Pete' Perry
Memorial services for former Sheridan resident Peter Pete Perry, 71, of Casper were Friday at First Baptist Church in Casper. Mr. Perry died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, in Life Care Center of Casper after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were with Bustard's Funeral Directors and Crematory. Mr. Perry was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Barre, Mass., to Fredrick Russell and Hester (Flood) Perry. He came to Sheridan by train with his mother and siblings when he was 12. He was a 1954 graduate of Big Horn High School. After graduation, he worked for the Wyoming Department of Transportation and was transferred to Casper port of entry. He married
Jean McIntosh on Jan. 5, 1957. He joined the Casper Fire Department in 1961, retiring in 1976. He then worked as a carpenter and fiber optics technician. He enjoyed roping, rodeos, being with his family, Saturday dances in Barnum and Kaycee, hunting, fishing and sporting events with his grandchildren. He was a Casper Mountain Ski Patrolman. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon Williams of Belgrade, Mont., and Karen Wilkinson and Patsy Horton, both of Casper; two brothers, Carlton of Sheridan and Randall of Clearmont; three sisters, Priscilla Munsey of British Columbia, Canada, Louise Burley of Grand Junction, Colo., and Martha Ann Clarkson of Denver; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
