William “Bill” Barbula
JANUARY 7, 1930 - MARCH 29, 2010
William 'Bill' Barbula passed away March 29, 2010 at Sheridan Manor with his family by his side. He was born on January 7, 1930 at the Andrew Mentock home in Monarch, Wyoming, to Rose Julia (Kuzara) Barbula and William F. Barbula. He attended Holy Name Catholic School through the eighth grade, graduated from Sheridan High School in 1948, and attended Sheridan College. At the start of the Korean War, he joined the United States Marines where he attained the rank of Sergeant and was a rifle instructor at Camp Pendleton in California. After his discharge he returned home to the family ranch on Lower Tongue River. As a youngster, he was a member of The Friendly Indians, (precursor to Cub Scouts, ) the Boy Scouts and 4H. He belonged to the Farm Bureau, American Dairy Association, Elks Club, the REA, and the Knights of Columbus where he was very active and served as Grand Knight. He was a life-long member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He married
the love of his life, Arline Yatsko in October 1954 at Holy Name Catholic Church after six months of courtship. From that day on they were lifelong friends, loving parents, and devoted Catholics. He is survived by his wife and their five beautiful children: They had William Jr. January 1956, Bonnie Marie November 1957, Thomas Wayne arrived in January 1959, Judith Ann October 1963 and the last of the fiv e children, Kathryn Rose born July 1973. Bill grew up during the depression years where the family lived on Beatty Gulch without running water or electricity, then on the Wrench Ranch and in 1946 moving to a ranch on Lower Tongue River, all without the modern conveniences until the 50s. Some of his memories are going to his grandmother_s for Christmas Eve in a sled pulled by two horses when the roads were otherwise impassable for a car from Beatty Gulch, living along the railroad tracks on the Star Mine Road during one winter in a two-room house so his sister could go to school, competing in marble tournaments, playing football at Holy Name and in high school, and milking the cows before and after class during his school years. When they lived out on Tongue River, he and his two brothers would get in the family car - a suburban which was also their school bus, maybe picking up a few neighbor kids along the way, and head for town on a Saturday night to go to the movies, roller skating, or a school dance. He remembers being sent home from school because a skunk had got under t he house during the night and their clothes absorbed the skunk odor and no one could stand to be around them. Bill loved his whole family and was a wonderful, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He put his heart and soul into his chosen vocation - agriculture - he worked very hard at it and enjoyed ev ery day he spent doing it. It is said that other ranchers that lived beyond the Barbula -Turley Ranch of the Tongue River would manage their farming activities by what they saw at the BT Ranch - time to irrigate, time to cut hay, etc. Bill taught his family two very important virtues of life - hard work and the value of family and friends. When Bill's health worsened, Arline his wife of 55 years, became his devoted caregiver never leaving his side. Bill leaves behind his wife Arline, and children William Jr., Bonnie (Cliff) Sorenson, Judy (Trampas) Smith, Kathy (Jeramy) Lucas, all of Sheridan, and Tom from Gillette. 13 Grandchildren : Chris (Angie) Sorenson, Jessie Sorenson, Ty (Brittany) Sorenson, Curtis (Traci) Sorenson, Rory Mills, Katie Mills (Brian Johnson), Cael Smith, Addison and Justyce Lucas all of Sheridan. Mallory (James) McCallister of Ft. Riley Kansas, Myles Barbula of Lawrence, Kansas, and Maggie Barbula (Ryan Cinderella) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 14 Great Grandchildren : Kylee, Thomas, Louisa, and William Sorenson, Torrance, Jolee and Garrett Sorenson, Keagan and Kaden McCallister, Kiera Cinderella, Patrick, Jeffrey, and Jamison Mills. Also his sister Bernice Elizabeth Turley-Jacobson, and brother Edward James Barbula, both of Sherida n and brother Gerald Thomas Barbula of Camarillo, California. All that knew and loved Bill knew the love he had for ranching. Just as his father before him did, h e enjoyed sharing his time with his family in the mountains, fishing, and tending his garden. Bill's life may have ended here on earth but he has moved on to a more blessed and peaceful life wit h his savior, leaving a never ending legacy within those he loved the most. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 4, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. Christy Anne Parrott
December 8, 1970 – May 22, 2010
Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend successfully battled brain cancer for five years until May 22, 2010, when she passed away in the arms of her loving husband. Christy was born on December 8, 1970, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Dale and Cynthia Jacobson. She attended Holy Name School and then graduated from Sheridan High School in 1989. An avid tennis and soccer player, she won the Wyoming State Singles title in 1988 as well as being named Prince All-American. She was also voted All State Soccer, first team. Christy later attended Sheridan Community College and then graduated with Honors in 1994 from Montana State University, majoring in Business Management. In December 1994, she started dating the love of her life, Douglas Parrott. They married
in Sheridan, Wyoming, on December 28, 1996. Christy dreamed for a “white wedding, ” and she certainly got her wish with heavy snow falling for days. Family and friends were arriving at the last minute, as they were stranded along Interstates and in airports. It ended up being a storybook wedding, and with the help of Polish “whisky, ” there was one heck of a reception. A self-trained and talented graphic designer, Christy helped found Bighorn Design in Sheridan and later served in the marketing department at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Her career eventually brought her to Missoula Aging Services, and after the birth of her daughter, Christy started her own graphic design business, which allowed her to be a full-time mom and still pursue her love of design. 1997 brought Christy and Doug to Florence, Montana, where they settled into the community and started their family. Hannah Marie was born on May 11, 2000, after refusing for 22 hours to come into the world. Between the long labor and the high-risk pregnancy, she appreciated Hannah’s perfection and loved her more than anything. Christy’s love of children didn’t stop with Hannah. She was instrumental in the development of both the Dragon Hollow playground in Missoula and Hideout Mountain in Florence. She took great pride in Hideout Mountain where she raised $140, 000, in a few short months. Christy volunteered as a youth soccer coach and was very active in the Missoula adult soccer community. Her last soccer match was the 2009 Missoula Women’s League championship where she scored the last-second, game-winning goal. What a fitting finish!
Christy loved music and travel. She didn’t let her diagnosis in 2005 slow her down. She took in many concerts and traveled extensively. Her favorite locations involved a warm weather beach and a drink with an umbrella. She loved days at the lake with family and friends, water skiing, inner tubing, and just hanging out in the sun. She cherished her trips to Disney World with Hannah; she would ride the Tower of Terror all day if you’d let her. Nothing was more important to Christy than her family. Hannah was the light of her life and they had a special bond. Her devotion to her family was present in every breath she took during her fight. She will be remembered not only for her beauty, athleticism and humor, but also for her boundless courage. The hearts she touched will never be the same without her. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed by those who have survived her including: her husband Doug and daughter Hannah; her parents Dale and Cynthia Jacobson of Sheridan, WY; her sister Jennie Holton, brother-in-law Scott Holton, niece and nephew Alexis and Allister Holton of Bozeman; as well as many other family and friends. Her grandparents Chris and Margaret Jacobson and Willfred and Mary Catterall of Sheridan and aunts Peggy Doyle and Stella Novara of Sheridan preceded her in death. Christy’s celebration of life will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Caras Park Pavilion in Missoula. Please stay for refreshments and entertainment. Christy’s dream was to add a splash park to Hideout Mountain. The Christy Parrott Foundation has been created to make this happen. https://sites.google.com/site/christyparrottfoundation/. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to:
