Virginia Beth Luckhurst Haar
Virginia Beth Luckhurst Haar, 62, of Parkman, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at her residence. Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Church with Pastor Tony Forman and Pastor Ken Pretty On Top officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. A reception will follow at Cornerstone Church Common Grounds. Born June 10, 1947, in Watertown, S.D., to Harlan Roy and Ailene Ruth Garey Luckhurst. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1965, and from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She taught home economics and parenting at Sheridan High School and nutrition at Sheridan College. She married
Ralph Haar in Garden City, S.D., on Sept. 10, 1972. She and her husband Ralph founded Sure Foundation Family Ministry, an outreach to the Crow Nation. She was an advocate for the Gatekeepers Ministries in Crow Agency, Mont., and belonged to the Parkman Promoters. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Sheridan and Spirit of Life Four Square Church in Crow Agency. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father. Survivors include her mother of Clark, S.D., children Shannon Haar of Parkman, Cody Haar of Sheridan, Shelly Brown of Merrill, Iowa, Brett Jorgensen of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Nicki Dvorak of Sioux Falls.; brothers Alan Luckhurst of Garden City, S.D., Edwin Luckhurst of Garden City, S.D., and sister: Marilyn Moeller of Arlington, S.D.; and five grandchildren. A. Pauline ‘Pat’ Ridenour Welsh
A. Pauline “Pat” Ridenour Welsh, 85, mother of Joan Martini of Sheridan, died Wednesday, April 6, 2010, at Chicago's Sinai Hospital of heart failure. No services are planned. Scattering of cremation ashes will be at a later date. Born Oct. 30, 1924, in Rozet to Lee and Gladys Ridenour, she was raised in the Gillette area and graduated from Rozet High School in 1942. She married
Bruce Baker Welsh and had three children. She worked as a riveter at Casper Air Force Base, a drug store clerk in Sheridan, and a nanny in southern California. She was active in her church, enjoyed playing gin rummy, and volunteered for numerous organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Debra Lee; siblings Fern Hoffman, Gerald Ridenour and Harold Ridenour; and a grandson. Survivors include daughter Joan Martini; son Jeff Welsh of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Kathryn Moran of Kalispell, Mont., Ruth Mankin of Gillette, and Rosalee Benallo of Denver; brother Michael Ridenour of Great Falls, Mont.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Leslie “Ted” Denton
Leslie "Ted" Denton, 84, of Sturgis, S.D., father of Terry Denton of Story and Kirby Denton of Sheridan, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Lippold Hospice Unit of the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Mike Fox officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Black Hills National cemetery with military honors by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard. Born Oct. 13, 1925, at Morristown, S.D., to Vay Isaac and Clara Etta (Flowers) Denton, the family moved to Hot Springs where he attended school. After completing his formal education, he herded sheep, drove trucks and cowboyed from Fall River to Corson County. With permission from his parents, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country. Mr. Denton married
Evelyn Mistelski at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, S.D. After honorable discharge from the Navy, the couple ranched south of Hot Springs on the Cheyenne River. He also worked for area ranchers. He went to work for Custer State Park as a professional hunter from 1948 until 1950. He then worked at Igloo as a security guard until 1952. He farmed for a year before moving to Lead S.D. and working for the Homestake Mine for the next 20 years. From 1973 until retirement in 1987, he worked for the Department of the Interior as a federal mine inspector. The family lived in Indiana, Ohio and Colorado before settling in Sturgis. Ted was diagnosed with cancer in 1987 and lived an active, productive life for the next 23 years. In retirement he enjoyed camping and membership with the Good Sam Club. He was a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons, Homestake Veterans, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5969 in Deadwood, Sturgis Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis. In 1999, the couple moved to Whitewood, S.D. He was preceded in death by his wife; one grandchild; three brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include three sons, Lynn Denton of Lead, Terry Denton of Story and Kirby Denton of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
GEORGE WILLIAM DOUGLAS
NOVEMBER 3, 1942 - A PRIL 10, 2010
George William Douglas, 67, passed away April 10, 2010, at his home in Lander, Wyoming. George was born November 3, 1942 at the family home in Upton, Wyoming to Paul and Marie Douglas. He was the youngest of three children including Melvin and Mary Halvorsen. During his childhood, George excelled in many areas including music, band, speech, academics and athletics. He was a member of the All-State Choir, All-State Band, and All-State Poetry. His athletic career became a large part of his life as he entered junior and senior high school. George held the high hurdle record for over 20 years at Upton High School and was a member of the medley relay team placing fifth in the nation in 1959. While in high school, George joined the National Guard and immediately following graduation went on active duty serving at Fort Ord, CA; Fort Sill, OK and lastly in the Nebraska Guard in Lincoln, NE. Returning from basic training in 1961, he joined his high school love and fianc_ Doris (Mickey) Jones in Lander, Wyoming. They were married
a week later in Newcastle, WY. They were blessed with three children Danette, Mark and Bridget and three grandchildren Brode, Baylie and Carter. Moving into his collegiate career, George was a stand out in football, basketball and baseball; earning college and semi-pro invitations in baseball and a football scholarship to Chadron State College. He lettered at CSC in football, baseball and basketball. While the natural progression of his athletic career was coaching, George was driven by teaching and education in general. George took his first job in Jeffrey City, WY where he taught math and science and coached basketball, softball and track. George then took a job in Sheridan, WY teaching health/physical education and coaching football, swimming and gymnastics. This was the first competitive gymnastics program in Wyoming and his girls swim team won the first ever Wyoming state swimming championship. After nine years in Sheridan, George returned to CSC to obtain a Master of Science Degree in Secondary Administration. During this time, George coached baseball and football and taught part-time for CSC. The next logical progression was a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he completed his program of work in only 18 months. With his doctorate in hand, George held several positions including superintendent of schools in Arthur, NE; Director of the Alternative School in Laramie, WY; Director of the College Counseling Center at Murray State College in Oklahoma; Dean of Students at Pratt Community College in Pratt, KS; Superintendent of Schools in Grover, CO; Saguache, CO and Mountain View, WY; and Curriculum/Special Education Director and Assistant Superintendent in Lander, WY. An appointment by Governor Jim Geringer to the Wyoming Community College Commission was in the midst of these various positions as well. Regardless of his positions, George always seemed called back to his roots and early training of work in the oil fields and with heavy equipment. He loved his full size _Tonka Trucks._ He loved the outdoors, hunting whitetail deer and elk, fishing Sand Creek, taking drives, music and spending his time with family. George was a fun- loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and educator. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Survivors include: Mother, Marie Douglas of Upton, WY; Wife, Mickey Douglas of Lander, WY; Children Dane_ Douglas, Lander, WY; Mark, Bridget and Alan Dubberley, Cheyenne, WY; Sister, Mary and brother-in-law Rollie Halvorsen; Grandchildren Brood_ & Baylie Bullington, and Carter Dubberley; Aunt Ruth and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. George is preceded in death by his father Paul and brother Melvin; In-laws: E.T. Jones, Viola Tavegia, Ray and Peary Jones, Iona and niece Jolene (Snooky) Campbell. Visitation will be Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 4 _ 8:00 pm at Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson_s Funeral Home, Lander. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, April 16, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church of Lander. Burial will be on another date in Upton, WY.
LANCE S. HUBER
NOVEMBER 13, 1966 - APRIL 12, 2010
Lance S. Huber, son of Sandra Odde Riverton, WY and Harold Huber Sheridan, WY went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2010. He fought Type 1 Diabetes for 34 years. He was born in Riverton, WY on Nov 13, 1966 and was 43 years old. Lance attended Central WY Community College, Eastern WY College, and University of Wyoming at Casper. He had an Associates Degree in Agribusiness, an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology, a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education, a Bachelors of Science in Social Work, a Masters Degree in Secondary School Counseling, and a Masters degree in Social Work. Lance went blind from complications of Diabetes in 1998 and attended the Colorado School for the Blind. Lance volunteered as a teacher at the Trinity Lutheran School in Riverton where he taught History and Mathematics. Lance had many passions in life including the Oakland Raiders, Colorado Rockies, University of Wyoming Cowboys, his students at the Trinity Lutheran School, and teaching the 4H Junior Horse Judging Team in Riverton. This team won 1 st place at state numerous times and was always in the top 10 at the national judging show when they attended, and his Guiding Eyes dogs Halsey and Murphy. The funeral will be Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 1:00pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton, WY. Lance is survived by mother Sandra Odde, father Harold Huber, sister Nicole Odde, nephew Colin Odde, grandmothers Pauline Leonhardt Riverton and Lois Huber Sheridan, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. DANIEL J. MAY
NOVEMBER 18, 1956 - APRIL 13, 2010
Daniel J. May, 53, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan. Daniel was born November 18, 1956 in Sheridan to John J. And Joan R. Obert May. Dan attended Sheridan High School, and served in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged. Following his military service, he returned home to Wyoming. He was employed by several Sheridan area restaurants; most recently he was employed as a cook at the Holiday Inn in Sheridan..Dan was married
to the love of his life Alice (Whaley) Bryant on August 8, 2008 in Sheridan. They shared a year and a half of wonderful and cherished memories. Dan is survived by his wife, Alice, his step-children, Thomas J. Bryant of Sheridan, and Angela Bryant of Basin Wyoming, two grandchildren, his Mother, Joan Hutchinson of Sheridan, his brothers, Joe and Tom of Sheridan, Raymond (Debbie) of Colorado, Edward of Sheridan, two sisters; Barbara, of Sheridan and Teresa of Colorado, his Aunt Barbara Belus, and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded by his father, John J. May, his step-father, John C. Hutchinson, and his brother Jackie. Lorraine Burns
Lorraine Burns, 60, of Sheridan, died Friday, April 9, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Rob Spaulding officiating. Burial will be at a later date, next to her son in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington County, Va. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Jan. 7, 1950, in Nanticoke, Pa., to Clemuel and Lois (Martz) Jarrard, she grew up in Shickshinny, Pa. She received an associate’s degree and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She married
Mark Burns April 15, 1972, in Arlington, Va., and became a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Burns enjoyed genealogy and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant son, John Ashley. Survivors include her mother; her husband; one son, Matthew Burns of Sheridan; one daughter, Eva Burns of Sheridan; one brother, Clemuel Jarrard Jr. of Pennsylvania; one sister, Kathy LeClerc of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.

Ila M. May, 78, of Sheridan, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at her home. Services will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born Jan. 8, 1932, in Stover, Mo., to Louis and Cora Blackman Case, she graduated from Stover High School in 1949. She married
Robert Carl May on June 4, 1952, in Great Falls Mont. She enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, baking cookies and her family and friends. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Don Case; a sister, Ruth Tope, and a daughter, Deborah May. Survivors include her husband; daughter Cindy Garriott; sister Mary Mattoon of Kansas City, Mo.; and brothers Harold Case of Stover and Merle Case of Warrensburg, Mo.; and five grandchildren. DALE R. SHREVE
JANUARY 29, 1941 - APRIL 11, 2010
Dale Ray Shreve, 69, of Gillette, Wyo., passed away peacefully April 11, 2010, at his home in Gillette, Wyoming from lung cancer. He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Raymond A. and Merle H. Shreve, along with his twin sister Barbara (Jim) Niner. They resided on the Shreve ranch in Wolf, Wyo. Dale attended school in Sheridan county and was a 1959 graduate of Sheridan High School. He continued on at Sheridan College where he graduated with an associates degree. He was active in 4-H and FFA. In 1962, Dale enlisted into the U.S. Army and after serving a tour in Korea, he returned home in 1964. He married
Anne D. Hutton (Zimmerschied), on June 11, 1966 in Sheridan. The couple had four children; Brian, Scott, James, and Barbara Anne. They lived on the family ranch in Wolf, Wyo., where Dale had ranched for most of his life. The couple was divorced in 1981. After selling the ranch in 1984, Dale lived in Buffalo, Wyo., and Evergreen, Colo., where he was Director of Maintenance at Life Care Center of Evergreen. He married
Carol Barrett on March 9th, 2002 in Evergreen and the couple moved to Gillette, Wyo., where Dale was a heavy equipment operator for Rio Tinto Energy America. Dale enjoyed shooting and reloading, playing his guitars, playing cribbage and pinochle, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, riding horseback and being in the mountains. He was a great handyman and could work on and fix most anything. He spent time reading western books and listening to classic western music. Dale was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, a past 4-H leader, and a member of the NRA. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Survivors include his loving and caring wife, Carol A. Shreve of Gillette; three sons, Brian (Lorrie) Shreve of Avoca, Neb., Scott (Aimee) Shreve of Buffalo, Wyo., James (Jennifer) Shreve of Afton, Wyo.; one daughter, Barbara Anne (Wayne) Mitchell of Sheridan, Wyo.; two step-sons, Michael Rotolo of Sheridan, Wyo., Douglas Barrett of Gillette, Wyo.; one step-daughter, Kristina Barrett of Gillette, Wyo.; one twin sister, Barbara (Jim) Niner of Sheridan, Wyo.; numerous grandchildren, two nephews, his Missy Pup, several other family members and many friends. A celebration of Dale’s life will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the WPA Building at Camplex Park, 2910 Doubletree Lane, Gillette from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to the staff of CCMH Hospice and Walker Funeral Home for their loving care of Dale and his family. James T. Boyde, 62, of Newcastle, died Monday, March 29, 2010, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Born June 14, 1947, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Theodore & Audrey (Ross) Boyde, he served in the U.S. Army and was employed as a light vehicle driver for several transportation companies. Survivors include his son William of Urbandale, Iowa; and other relatives.

Larry F. Mosebar
Larry F. Mosebar, 60, of Story, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at the Eagle’s Club, Fifth and Main streets. Attendees are asked to bring a food dish to share. Born March 16, 1950, in Sheridan, to Joseph and Barbary (Calkins) Mosebar, he graduated from high school in Cody in 1968. He was a tattoo artist and business owner, and a member of the Eagle’s Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, riding motorcycles and playing pool. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother; stepfather Darrel Miller; son Travis Mosebar of Colorado; three daughters, twins Danielle Balliett and Dione Luark of Colorado, and Cara Johnston of Wyoming; sister Elaine Innman of Wyoming; and six grandchildren. Randall B. Hutton
Randall B. Hutton, 55, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Sheridan Manor. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born July 1, 1954, in Sheridan to Malcolm and Mary Virginia (Scrutchfield) Hutton, he attended Highland Park Elementary School, Central Junior High School and spent two years at Sheridan High School. He was active in sports. In 1970 he was left paralyzed after an automobile accident and required complete care. He lived in the family home for 10 years, then a nursing home in Denver. He returned to Sheridan in 2008 and was a resident of Sheridan Manor. Survivors include his parents; three brothers, Charles of Sheridan, Gary of Denver, and Craig of Sparks, Nev.; one aunt; one uncle; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit the Brain Injury Association of Wyoming, 111 West Second St., Casper, Wyo., 82801, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Jerry Kay Egland
July 6, 1955 - March 31, 2010
Jerry Kay Egland passed away March 31, 2010 in Billings, Montana. Jerry was born July 6, 1955 in Lemmon, South Dakota, the son of Glenn Egland and Genevieve. Jerry moved to Wyoming as a young man and worked in Concrete, Bridge Building and also as a Concrete Finisher. In the late 70’s he moved to Vancouver, Washington and soon became a new father, and his son Jason Egland, resides in Portland, Oregon. He is survived by a brother, Gerry Egland (wife Sally) of Vancouver, Washington; mother, Genevieve Levison and sister Connie, of Camas, Washington. For many years Jerry enjoyed his life in Story, Wyoming with his much loved mate Patti Olesen and her sons Michael Stein and Soren Olesen. Jerry is an uncle, cousin and nephew to many. Although he lived in a few different states, he always thought of Wyoming as his home. He loved to fish, hunt and truly enjoyed every site there was to see. Mostly he liked Lake DeSemet, where he and Patti took their boat and dog Diamond to enjoy the weekends. Jerry will be dearly missed by his lifelong friends and loved ones. There will be a celebration of life and future services for Jerry Egland announced at a later date.
Cyril (Cy) Belus
August 28, 1920 - April 5, 2010
Cyril (Cy) Belus, 89, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Westview Health Care Center. Cy was born August 28, 1920 in Sheridan to John and Dorothy Mikula Belus, who were immigrants from Slovakia. His father was from Jablumov-1880 and mother from Velbach-1884. They came to Pennsylvania in 1905 and homesteaded on Dutch Creek in 1908. They lived there until 1928. The family moved to Ucross that year to their ranch where Cy grew up. The family raised sheep and farmed. As a youngster Cy herded sheep and spent summers in sheep camps with his dog, rifle, battery radio and of course the old sheep wagon. Cy attended a one-room school house near Ucross and went to the eighth grade. As a teenager he and his brothers topped beets around Clearmont to earn spending money and they broke and trained horses for other ranchers. In 1942 at the age of 22, Cy enlisted in the Army, training at Camp Roberts, California and later at Camp Hale in the Colorado Mountains where he became a member of the 10th Mountain Division 87th Infantry where he received the rank of Corporal. His first taste of military action was on the Island of Kiska in the Aleutian Islands. The Japanese had held Kiska. Fortunately when his battalion arrived the enemy had abandoned the area. The men were then shipped to Italy, landing at Naples. The men saw action all through Northern and Southern Italy against German Panzers in the Po Valley. The 87th was composed of 2, 000 men. They were in famous Battles; the Battle of Monte Casino, Bolognia and Reba Ridge. Cy received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in late 1945 and returned to the family ranch at Ucross. On November 12, 1952 Cy married
Barbara Obert at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Buffalo, Wyoming. In 1954 they moved to Montana and ranched at Kirby, later at Lodge Grass, Montana. They purchased a ranch at Roberts, Montana near Red Lodge, returning to the Sheridan area in 1977. Cy started his own business doing his second favorite occupation: carpentry and painting. He called his business “Cy’s Painting and Remodeling” He retired after 10 years, putting away his paint brush and hammer for good! Cy was an active member of the Holy Name Parish, a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Phil Sheridan Council 2104 and a Life Member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. Cy was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and nine brothers. Survivors include his wife Barbara; son Tom Belus; daughter Debora Lydic both of Sheridan; three granddaughters; Riley Cook and Cassidy Belus of Sheridan and Jill Nixon of Thornton, Colorado, two sisters: Sister Mary St. Luke Belus BVM of Dubuque, IA and Ann Ballek of Columbus, MT and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, 2010 at Kane Funeral Home with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Holy Name Church with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in the Elks cemetery. Roger L. Cox
Roger L. Cox, 86, of Sheridan, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at his residence. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Friday at Sheridan Wesleyan Church with Pastor Darrell White officiating. Born August 30, 1923, in Oshkosh, Neb., when he was four years old he moved with his family to Moorcroft where he grew up and attended school. He then worked on various ranches in the Moorcroft area. Mr. Cox moved to the Sheridan area in the early 1940s where he continued to work on ranches. He married
Lilas M. Carroll on April 7, 1945, in Sheridan. He was employed by the U.S. Forest Service as a forestry technician retiring after 29 years of service in 1988. He then worked for C&K Equipment for 10 years. Mr. Cox was a member of the Sheridan Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed riding horses, working on cars, tending his garden and visiting with friends and neighbors. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James G. Cox, of Prescott, Ariz., and Russell Cox of Sheridan; one brother, Ray Cox of Buffalo; two sisters, Lavern Davidson and Arian Harper, both of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
