Agnes Cecelia Myers
Former Story resident Agnes Cecelia Myers, 70, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her daughter's home on Orcas Island, Wash. Rosary will be recited 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan with a memorial service beginning at 5 p.m. Immediately following, a reception and celebration of her life will be at the Lodore Super Club in Story. Born April 24, 1939, in Dodgeville, Wis., to Wilber and Anna Pittz, she attended Mineral Point High School and continued her education in Madison, Wis., receiving a secretarial degree. On June 17, 1959, she married
William E. Myers. They lived in Barneveld, Wis., where they owned and operated Barneveld Motors. They relocated in 1982 to Story, where they owned the Wagon Box Supper Club for many years. Mrs. Myers enjoyed working at The Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan. She was a member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society, Story Woman's Club, and served as a board member for the Wyoming Restaurant and Lodging Association. She enjoyed quilting, golf, skiing, Sunday drives, and most of all, family. It was important to her that she spent time with people and help brighten their day. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Scott and Kevin. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Sare of Eastsound, Wash.; a son, William “Bill” Myers of Story; a sister, Margaret Ruth; four brothers, Bill Pittz, Clarence Pittz, Francis Pittz, and Greg Pittz; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Alvina S. Lepinski
Alvina S. Lepinski, 85, of Sheridan died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at her residence. A private family gathering is planned Saturday. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Born April 20, 1924, in St. Cloud, Minn., to William Eller and Margret Mosier Eller, she worked for Singer Kearfott in California, a manufacturer of electronics for space modulars and airplanes, from 1969 until retirement in 1989. She was active in politics, and a legislative bill was reportedly named after her for her work addressing rent control in mobile parks. She enjoyed gardening and handcrafts. Mrs. Lepinski moved to Sheridan two years ago to be near her daughter. Survivors include three children, Carol Albrecht of Sheridan, Gary Lepinski, and Betty Escabar of Calimesa, Calif. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
Rebecca ‘Becca’ Notti
Rebecca "Becca" Notti, 18, of the family ranch near Otter, Mont., died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the ranch. A viewing will be 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
Flora Jean Rice Dowson
Flora Jean Rice Dowson, 86, of Sheridan died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.Visitation is 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Oosberg, Wis., to Carroll VanOurkerk and Susan Van DeGuchte, she earned a high school diploma and married
Kenneth Rice when she was 18. Mr. Rice later died. In 1991, she married
Lewis Dowson. She enjoyed gardening, painting, cooking for family and friends, collecting antiques, yard sales, her neighbors, friends at United Methodist Church, and the employees of Wal-Mart, where she worked until one month before her death. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Norma Lobdell, Marion Svilar, and Virginia Fitzgerald; and a granddaughter. Survivors include her husband; four children, Dan Rice, John Rice, Rosalie Horak, and Kathy Strebel; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mary Jane (Strick) Ward
Former Sheridan resident Mary Jane (Strick) Ward, 86, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at her home in Alliance, Neb. Memorial services are today at Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance. Born July 1, 1923, in rural Sheridan, Neb., to Andrew and Irene Vera (Coe) Strick, she lived north of Ellsworth, Neb., where she attended grade school. She graduated from Alliance High School and attended Chadron State College, where she received a teaching certificate. When World War II began, she moved to Detroit, where she lived with an aunt while working in a factory on B-class bombers. After returning to Nebraska, she taught in a rural schoolhouse by Crawford, where she met and married
Arthur L. Ward. They resided north of Ellsworth until 1967, when they moved to Star Ranch, where she was a cook. In 1976 they moved here to work at Beckton Stock Farm. The couple returned to Alliance in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include five daughters, Sandra Sue Suhr, Janet Lee Woodworth, Connie Jo Hilliker, Thelma Lynn Muhr, and Linda Jewel Heflin; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Senior Center of Alliance.
Elaine Loretta Wondra
Elaine Loretta Wondra, 80, of Sheridan died Monday, June 29, 2009, after a brief illness, according to family. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Elks section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born at home in Monarch to Michael and Anne Kawulok, on July 31, 1928, she grew up in Monarch. After the death of her father, she moved with her mother and sisters to Ranchester, where she attended school, graduating from Ranchester High School. She married
Marion Wondra on July 7, 1948, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Monarch. They built a home in Ranchester. She worked for Drs. Crane, Samson and Wilde in Sheridan and enjoyed the medical field. After a time as a homemaker, she was employed at The Sheridan Press and later with Sheridan County School District 1 as an administrative secretary until she retired. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren, cats and dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Margaret and Florence. Survivors include a daughter, Diana, and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter or Tongue River Community Center in Ranchester.
Brent Charles Fosnight
Brent Charles Fosnight, 44, of Sheridan died Thursday, July 23, 2009. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born Dec. 28, 1964, in Denver to Brent and Arlene (Hirschmugl) Fosnight, he married
Georgia Fichtner on Aug. 26, 1995, in Montana. Mr. Fosnight enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He was known as a hardworking individual and talented craftsman, chef, and artist. He also enjoyed music and was said to have a “green thumb.” Survivors include his wife; his parents; two daughters, Laurel and Samantha; three sisters, Kim Duran, Kathy Williams and Cindy Romano, all of Denver; and one granddaughter. Iris L. Ferren
Iris L. Ferren, 87, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Sheridan Manor, where she lived the past three years. A celebration of her life is planned in September. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born Nov. 24, 1921, in Sheridan to Ralph C. and Velma M. Ferren, she attended school here and was baptized into First Christian Church. She enjoyed music and played the piano, organ, and clarinet. She became a minister of religious education at Phillips University College of The Bible in Enid, Okla., and College of The Bible at Lexington, Ky. She was ordained a minister of Christian education in 1954. Most of her working life was spent at Disciples of Christ headquarters in Indianapolis. She traveled in her work and vacationed with family in Sheridan. She enjoyed the Big Horn Mountains and the family cabin. She retired and moved to Sheridan in 1974 and was employed with Kiewit Mining until 1986. Survivors include a sister, Jackie Skar Kitchens; two nieces; two great-nephews and one great-niece. Beverly Ann Fuqua
Former Sheridan resident Beverly Ann Fuqua, 65, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Denver. Cremation has taken place, and a family graveside service is 2 p.m. Aug. 4 in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Feb. 6, 1944, in Sheridan to Gale and Freda (Whitford) Douglas, she grew up here and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married
Larry Fuqua in Denver and owned a day care center in Sheridan before moving to Denver. She enjoyed working on scrapbooks. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert James Douglas. Survivors include her husband of Denver; her mother, Freda (Douglas) Thomas of Story; one brother, Larry Douglas of Sheridan; three children; and six grandchildren.
John B. Norton
Former Sheridan VA Medical Center Chaplain John B. Norton, 83, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in New Orleans. Vigil service is today at St. Anthony of Padua Church in New Orleans. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with burial following at Dominican Friars’ cemetery in Rosaryville, La. Born Nov. 29, 1925, to Minnie (Regan) and Patrick Joseph Norton in Dubuque, Iowa., he served as a U.S. Army corporal from March 1944 to May 1946 and in the U.S. Air Force as a chaplain and captain from 1961 to 1969. He was ordained a priest May 26, 1956, and served as Sheridan VAMC chaplain from 1979 to 2002. Condolences may be submitted to an online guest book at www.legacy.com.

Edith Collins, 88, of Arvada, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette. Edith was born January 26, 1921 in Sheridan, WY to Frank and Clara Clabaugh. She wed Marion Collins in Hardin, MT and was a dedicated homemaker. For many years she sold Avon in the Arvada area, was a member of the Arvada Women_s Club, and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by daughters Janet (Gary) Hansen of Arvada and Shirley(Dave) Bagwell of Gillette, son Bob (Carla) Collins of Sheridan, sister Joyce Phillips of Gillette, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30 at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan. Raymond Keith Tibbets
Sheridan native Raymond Keith Tibbets, 73, of Casper died Monday, July 20, 2009, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were Friday at First Christian Church in Casper with burial in Highland Park cemetery there. Born Sept. 29, 1935, in Sheridan to Virgil Ray Tibbets and Edna (Barnes) Landreth, he graduated from Sheridan High School and married
Verna Sobotka of Sheridan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife; one brother, Don Tibbets; one sister, Linda Grinder; two daughters, Julie Black and Dawn Stanfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. William E. ‘Bud’ Gleason
William E. “Bud” Gleason, 61, of Banner died Friday, July 17, 2009, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. A celebration of his life with family and friends is 2 p.m. Sunday in Kendrick Park. Burial is 10 a.m. Monday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 2, 1947, in Sheridan to William and Hattie (Bixby) Gleason, he grew up in Sheridan and Gillette and attended schools in both cities. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving from 1967 to 1972. He worked on ranches and later as a truck driver for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Tribe in Montana. Mr. Gleason liked to travel and take in the country scenery, especially the mountains and Kirby, Mont. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, computers, and spending time with friends and family. He was a volunteer at Sheridan Memorial Hospital and a member of First Christian Church in Sheridan, where he was baptized. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Gary G. Gleason; and a grandson, Jonathon L. SoRelle. Survivors include his wife, Deborah S. Gleason of Sheridan; a sister, Sandra Reynolds of Gillette; three daughters, Stephanie Gleason of Sheridan and Tina Barnett and Sandra Pennock, both of Riverton; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials may benefit Hospice of the Big Horns.
