David Lee Norwood
David Lee Norwood, 60, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at his home in Sheridan. He was born Oct. 8, 1948, in Sheridan to Norman “Slim” and Audrey (Phillips) Norwood. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his parents of Sheridan; a son, Brett of Sheridan; two brothers, Duane and Don; and a sister, Gayle. A private gathering of family and friends will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Holland C.‘Mac’ McHenry
Holland C. “Mac” McHenry, 75, Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Billings Deaconess Clinic. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be later. Born July 1, 1933, on the family’s Campbell County homestead near Savageton to Cliff and Laura McHenry, he was educated in and near Gillette, graduating from Campbell County High School in 1951. He married
Nola Beth Geer in Sheridan on Oct. 1, 1951. Mr. McHenry was self-employed with Mac’s Delivery, which later became Mac’s Moving and Storage, an agent for United Van Lines. Although retired in 1998, he continued to drive a mail truck for L&W Transfer between Sheridan and Moorcroft. He served in the Wyoming National Guard from 1955-1963 and was honorably discharged. Mr. McHenry enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, and saddle and draft horses. He was known as a mentor to all. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bryan C. McHenry of Huntsville, Texas, and Hadd M. McHenry of Sheridan; and a brother, Timothy McHenry of Worland. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Tracy Richie of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Hollie Braunschweig of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Charles C. McHenry of Billings and Kenneth L. Leland Anthony Salas Jr.
Leland Anthony Salas Jr., 43, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, in Billings after a brief illness, according to family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise Assembly of God Church in Sheridan. Born Aug. 25, 1965, to Leland Anthony Salas Sr. and Florene Aikens in Reno, Nev., he married
his wife, Greta, on Jan. 31, 1997, in Sheridan. He enjoyed working on computers, fishing, and loved animals. He spent the last seven years repairing and consulting on computer programs and had his own business, Salas System Support in Sheridan and Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Beata Kamran, and his stepfather, Tom Tarver. Survivors include his wife; his parents; a stepson, Benjamin Kamran; a sister, Cheresa Eddington; a brother, Michael Repolgie; three step-grandchildren; a niece; two nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Bernie Schilling
Bernie Schilling, 91, of Buffalo, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in Buffalo. Private family services will be later. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Born April 18, 1917, in Hollidaysburg, Pa., to John and Esther Schilling, he moved as a young boy to Monessen, Pa., where he grew up and graduated from Monessen High School in 1935. After high school he worked at various jobs until he joined the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II in North Africa and the Mediterranean. After military service he returned to Pennsylvania and in 1946 moved to Buffalo. He worked as a logger for many years in Johnson County and was a part-time prospector. After retiring, he continued to live in Buffalo. He enjoyed the mountains and hunting and was a rock collector and amateur geologist. He was past member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. Survivors include a nephew, a niece, a great-nephew and three great-nieces. Memorials may benefit the VFW in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo, WY 82834.
Dustin ‘Putz’ Farman
Dustin “Putz” Farman, 23, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Paul Joe Ogg
Paul Joe Ogg, 63, Longmont, Colo., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Longmont United Hospital following an extended illness. He was brother of Max Ogg and the Rev. Thomas Ogg, both of Sheridan. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. A second Mass was celebrated today at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Worland with burial there in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Born Aug. 9, 1945, in Worland to George Harper Ogg and Lena (Salzman) Ogg, he grew up working on the family farm outside Worland. He graduated in 1964 from Worland High School, where he was active in FFA, participating in judging contests for both steers and hogs. He was also on the wrestling team, going to the state meet all four years and winning individual state championships both his junior and senior years. He attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 in agronomy and a master's degree in 1970 in weed science. Mr. Ogg went to work for American Cyanamid immediately following college and worked 33 years in the company’s research area, continuing as a consultant at the time of his death.
He received numerous awards in his field and served on various boards including Western Society of Weed Science, serving as president and being named outstanding Weed Scientist for the same organization. He also was a Fellow for the Western Society and North Central Weed Science Society and served on the board of National Society of Weed Science. He traveled to all 50 states and to more than a dozen countries overseas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Ann Ogg, in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Lea Ogg; a son, Gerald Harper Ogg of Castle Rock, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Debra Schoen of Brighton, Colo.; a stepson, Bob McLaughlin of Monterey, Calif.; two additional brothers, Kenneth Ogg of Worland and Bill Ogg of Great Falls, Mont.; one granddaughter; and three step-grandchildren. Birdeen Legerski
Birdeen Legerski, 90, Sheridan, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating, with burial in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Born Sept. 23, 1918, in Sheridan to James N. “Nick” and Goldie (McDermott) Weigand, she moved at age 6 months with her family to a homestead near Clearmont and graduated from Clearmont High School in 1935. She worked for Mountain Bell from 1940 to 1980, starting as a service representative. She married
Joseph William “Smokey” Legerski on April 21, 1946. Mrs. Legerski was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Sheridan Women’s Club, Telephone Pioneers, AARP, Council of Catholic Women, and Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed travel, cards, crafts, and her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Adeline Worden. Joel William Troxler
Former Sheridan resident Joel William Troxler, 62, of Judith Gap, Mont., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., near his daughter's home. A memorial celebration is planned in the summer. Born Aug. 6, 1946, in Salt Lake City to William and Norma Troxler, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1964 and served in the military during the Vietnam War. He earned a Ph.D. in engineering from Texas A & M and taught at various colleges, retiring in 2001 from Montana State University-Bozeman. He was known as a true maverick with a quick wit, a master welder, and a builder of homes, barns, and furniture. He wrote a book based on his experiences growing up. Survivors include four children, Sacha of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Ian of Big Sky, Mont., Amanda of Portland, Ore., and Anna Schwab of Bozeman, Mont.; three sisters, Susan Holt of Salt Lake City, Julie Muelleck of Highland, Utah, and Kathleen Turner of Paradise, Calif.; three grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathryn Irene Watson
Former Sheridan resident Kathryn Irene Watson, 47, of Auburn Hills, Mich., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her parents’ home in Sheridan. Cremation arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Born Sept. 23, 1961, in Billings to Billy and Emilie Ruth Watson, as a teenager she participated in 4-H and served as an Honored Queen in Job’s Daughters. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1979 and attended the University of Wyoming, where she graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. She was employed 24 years at EDS of Michigan, where she worked as a software analyst. She was an active member in the Jaycees, the American Association of University Women, the Society of Women Engineers, and her local Christian Church. Her interests included decorating, sewing, reading, entertaining, spending time with family and friends, travel, cooking, and charitable works. Survivors include her parents of Sheridan; two sisters, Lynda Bezzina of Denver and Christine Thorne of Casper; a brother, Charles Watson of Sheridan; and five nieces and nephews. John W. Black
Former Sheridan resident John W. Black, 75, of Cheyenne died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Berthoud Living Center after an extended illness. A Vigil for the Deceased will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral with burial in Olivet cemetery. Born Dec. 27, 1933, to Thomas P. and Elizabeth E. Black of Cheyenne, he graduated from St. Mary's High School there after attending two years at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He also attended Regis College in Denver. He married
Phoebe Jane Mountain on Dec. 28, 1953, and they lived in Cheyenne, Longmont, Colo., Sheridan and Torrington. He worked as a home builder in business with his father and later in his family real estate business in Longmont and Sheridan before retiring. He was active for many years in the Cursillo movement within the Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree and helped redesign the Knights of Columbus Hall in Sheridan. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Jim; a half brother, Francis; a half sister, Mary Butler; and two grandchildren. He is survived by three sons, John Jr. of Gillette, Kevin of Aurora, Colo., and Joseph of Longmont; five daughters, Jeanne Krische of Longmont, Karen Pilkington of Berthoud, Colo., Michelle Black of Longmont, Julianne Garber of Sheridan, and Barbara McMahon of Clifton, Colo.; 31 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Black; and two sisters, Virginia Black and JoAnn Carter. Diane Kay Pettyjohn
Diane Kay Pettyjohn, 52, of Buffalo, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at her home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Buffalo. Private interment will be later. Born Sept. 4, 1956, in Winner, S.D., to Alvin and Marjorie Ahlers, she attended school in Clearfield, S.D., and her first year of high school in Winner. She attended Colome High School before moving to Rapid City in 1972. She married
Fredrick Pettyjohn on Sept. 6, 1975, in Rapid City, where they made their home. They lived in the Black Hills until 1990, when they moved to Pinedale, where she was a homemaker and full-time public minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 1993 they moved to Newcastle and in 1996 to Buffalo, where she worked at the Crossroads Inn to pay for real estate school and licensing. She also worked three years for Century 21 and one year for Remax.
She started Big Horn Mountain Realty in 2003, which she owned and operated until her death. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Buffalo Board of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors. She enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with her family and friends, and sharing God’s word.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dennis Ahlers. Survivors include three sons, Gary Pettyjohn of Farmington, N.M., and Daniel Pettyjohn and Skyler Pettyjohn of Buffalo; two brothers, Duane Ahlers of Palmer Lake, Colo., and Dwight Ahlers of Whitewood, S.D.; two sisters, Carol Matthews of Buffalo and Connie Babcock of Pinedale; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith E. Dawdy
Edith E. Dawdy, 101, of Sheridan, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at her home. Services will be in the summer. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Dec. 24, 1907, in Lamar, Colo., to Harry and Estelle (Hughes) Robinson, she came to Sheridan in 1910 and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1925. She worked as a reader for the Sheridan Journal newspaper. She married
Paul Dawdy in 1928 and handled the bookkeeping for their Conoco station. She was active in the community volunteering for the Red Cross during World War II and helping to organize All American Indian Days and the Miss Indian American Foundation. She also volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce, Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Wyoming Room, Community Chest, Nile Youth Center Board, PTA and Hospital Auxiliary. She continued to volunteer well into her 90s. Daughters of the American Revolution honored Mrs. Dawdy with the Women in American History certificate. She enjoyed traveling around the United States and also visited Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains and was an active and longtime member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971 and a daughter, Janet Schaffer. Survivors include three daughters, Marylin Miller of Colbert, Okla., Carol Gelardi of Magnolia, Texas, and Marie Wright-Byrum of Sheridan; 32 grand-, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren. William Adam Landeck
William Adam Landeck, 78, of Clearmont, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at his residence. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Gillette to Adam and Edna (Ertman) Landeck, he grew up and worked on the family ranch north of Gillette. In 1950, the family moved to the present ranch near Clearmont. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. His main interest was the ranch and farming.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Survivors include a brother, Paul Landeck of Clearmont. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.
James ‘Herb’ Herbert Zingg
James “Herb” Herbert Zingg, 82, of Sheridan died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery.
Born June 8, 1926, in Sheridan to Herbert R. and Madge (Son) Zingg, he served in the Army from September 1944 to January 1946. He married
Mary Mereness on Oct. 1, 1949, in Sheridan. Mr. Zingg worked 31 years as a rancher and livestock inspector for the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. He enjoyed raising and working with livestock of all kinds, travel, reading, the mountains, fishing and pack trips. He was a member of Sheridan Elk Lodge 520 and Farm Bureau and past member of both the Wyoming Stock Growers and Wool Growers associations. He was known for his honesty, character, sense of humor and ability to tell a great story. Two brothers, Jack and Robert, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda M. Shattuck of Eatonville, Wash.; a sister, Marie Semler of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 cemetery Fund, P.O.
