Vesta Thomas Ringley
Memorial services for Vesta Thomas Ringley, 89, of Sheridan, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be in Masonic 43 section, next to her husband, in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Ringley died April 1, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born June 7, 1918, on the Home Ranch in Sheridan to Richard and Mayme (DeJarnette) Thomas. The family moved to Osage and, later, Colorado Springs, Colo., but returned to Sheridan when she was 6. She attended Coffeen, Central and Hill schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1937. She went to work at Stevens Fryberger. She married
Roy Ringley on Nov. 21, 1937. Mr. Ringley worked in the trucking industry, and they lived in several communities. Mrs. Ringley worked at different department stores, including 19 years with Ronzone's Department Store later purchased by Dillard's in Las Vegas. They moved back to Sheridan permanently in 1990. Mrs. Ringley and her husband enjoyed traveling in their camper, as well as trips to Hawaii, Alaska and England. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Ladies Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Florence Petrie; and brothers Dean and Wendell Thomas. Survivors include a son, Tom of Big Horn; two daughters, Nancy Kelly of Reno, Nev., and Susan Farnsworth of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Norma Harriet Fuglem Dronen
Norma Harriet Fuglem Dronen, 94, of Moorhead, Minn., died March 10, 2008, in Golden Living Center in Moorhead. She was the mother of Narleen Engel of Sheridan. Prayer service will be this afternoon in Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, followed by burial at 3 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran cemetery in Sharon, N.D. Mrs. Dronen was born June 10, 1913, to Gerhard and Severine (Lunde) Fuglem on the family farm near Aneta, N.D. She grew up and was educated in the Aneta area. She was a member of West Union Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, N.D. She married
Arthur E. Dronen on May 10, 1941. They farmed in the Sharon area. They retired in 1968 and moved to Moorhead, where Mrs. Dronen worked for Plunketts Furniture. Mr. Dronen died in January 1983. Mrs. Dronen moved into Golden Living Center in November 2002. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gene and Sherman; a sister, Cora Moe; and three brothers, Gene, Harris and an infant who died at birth. Survivors include a son, Norman of Buxton, N.D.; two other daughters, Dorothy Skalicky of Moorhead and Annette Tronson of Buxton; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Jackson Norman Meldrum
BUFFALO - Jackson Norman Meldrum, 99, of Buffalo died April 1, 2008, in Amie Holt Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Russ Murphy and the Right Rev. Vernon Strickland officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services following the funeral. A public celebration of Mr. Meldrum's life will be at the Occidental Hotel following services at the cemetery. Cleo I. Craig
Memorial services for Cleo I. Craig, 87, of Sheridan will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Westview Health Care Center with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Craig died March 14, 2008, in Westview. She was born March 29, 1920, in Cucamonga, Calif., to Jesse and Cora (Cannup) Parsons. She grew up and graduated from high school in California. She married
John Craig on Aug. 16, 1939. They lived in Whittier, Calif., where Mrs. Craig drove a school bus, until they retired and moved to Kalispell, Mont. They later moved to Sheridan to be near their son. Mr. Craig died in 2000. Mrs. Craig enjoyed hiking, berry-picking, shopping for antiques, attending Indian powwows, socializing, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Valley Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy, and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include a son, James of Sheridan; a daughter, Linda Kirkwood of Kalispell; a brother, Lon Curtis of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Gail Ryan of Rosamond, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Helen M. Evans
Graveside services for Helen M. Evans, 87, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Evans died March 31, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, to Joseph and Helen (Schommer) Bruggeman. She attended Holy Family Elementary and Stivers High School. She married
John W. Evans in October 1942. She was a homemaker and worked for the Kettering (Ohio) School District. She enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter and a granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, Joseph of Littleton, N.H., and John of British Columbia, Canada; a daughter, Betty Blevins of Grand Junction, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Jael H. Gosnell-Haught
Jael Heaven Gosnell-Haught, newborn daughter of Jonie Gosnell and Jason Haught of Sheridan, died March 22, 2008, in Billings. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Congregational Church in Cheyenne. Cremation arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. In addition to her parents, survivors include a sister, Jordyn Rose-Marie; her grandparents, Dave and Cindy Haught and Marlys and Ivan Gosnell; and her great-grandparents, Leslie and Grace Gosnell, Dwight and Janet Haught, and Gerald and Dolores Childs.
Rosemond Glendy
Rosemond Glendy, 76, Lusk, mother of Kelly Glendy of Sheridan, died March 7, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lusk Elks Lodge with cremation arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Born in Crawford, Neb., to Charles and Florence Thomas, she married
William Bill Glendy on Aug. 19, 1950, in Crawford. Mrs. Glendy worked as a cook in Chadron, Neb., for the Job Corps; as secretary of Rings By United, at a dental office, and for a youth bowling coordinator; as an Avon consultant; a caregiver; and activities coordinator for the Senior Center, Sunshine Center, and Sunshine Tours. A Cub Scout leader, she was also a member of the Catholic Church, Eagles, Does, hospital auxiliary, and Rawhide Jamboree. She enjoyed music, travel, crafts, and bowling. In addition to her son, survivors include a daughter, Donna Dooley of Spring Creek, Nev.; a stepbrother, Richard Thomas of New York City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; an aunt; an uncle; a niece; two nephews; and numerous cousins.
Harold James Bursell
Former Sheridan resident Harold James Bursell, 72, of Las Vegas died May 15, 2008, after a long battle with lung cancer, according to his family. A memorial service is planned July 13 in Las Vegas. Mr. Bursell was born July 13, 1935 in Truman, Minn., to Donald S. and Mabel I. Bursell. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a rancher and businessman in Sheridan. He later moved to Cody, then to Arizona after retiring. He moved to Las Vegas two years ago. He enjoyed traveling in his RV. Survivors include his wife, Louella Bursell; five children, Luci Parham, Scott Bursell, Terri Wilkey, Becky Nicholas and Brenda Vance; two brothers, Ike of Truman and Jack of Fairmont, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Margaret Len Osgard
Memorial services for Margaret Len Osgard, 87, of Sheridan and Dixon, Ill., will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Osgard died May 26, 2008, in Dixon. She was born April 18, 1921, in Sheridan to Floyd and Bess (Spracklen) Bessey. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Ray Richard Osgard on June 28, 1942. They lived in the Sundance area and, later, in Hamilton, Mont., where she was a secretary in a doctor's office for a number of years. She was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, crafts, flowers and spending time with her family. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Cook of Dixon; and two sisters, Katherine Kay Zwickel of Westminister, Calif., and Carol Kelso of Tigard, Ore.
Kenneth Capper Monroe
A memorial service for Kenneth Capper Monroe, 92, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sugarland Ridge Assisted Living Facility, 1551 Sugarland Drive, with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Monroe died May 23, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services were earlier this week in Fort Collins, Colo., with burial in Grandview cemetery there. Mr. Monroe was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Decatur County, Kan., to Benjamin Franklin Frank and Alameda Isadora Dora Bolin Monroe. He grew up on the family farm near Oberlin, Kan., and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1935. The family moved to Colorado in 1936, and Mr. Monroe did odd jobs and ranch work until 1939, when the family moved to California. He was a machinist at the Mare Island Navy Yard, repairing ships, from 1940-45. He later worked for United Airlines in Cheyenne and San Francisco. He married
Garnet Robinson on Aug. 4, 1944. She preceded him in death. The family moved in 1950 to Denver, where he worked at General Iron Works. After two years, the family moved to the mountains near Red Feather Lakes, Colo., and he was self-employed in home construction and maintenance. He also worked for the Larimer County Road Department from 1966 until he retired. He enjoyed reading, ranch projects, pets, shopping for vehicles, participating in fall harvests, travel, politics, ice skating and family reunions. He was a member of Morning Star Community Church in Red Feather Lakes and Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and twin sisters. Survivors include four children, Ilene Wical of Eaton, Colo., Nancy Deines of Sheridan, Marion Monroe of Red Feather Lakes and Elbert Monroe of Abilene, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Lucille M. Fellon
Lucille M. Fellon, 101, of Edgerton died May 19, 2008, in Poplar Living Center in Casper. She was mother of Norma Maney of Sheridan. Memorial services are 2 p.m. today at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper, the Rev. Ron Blauvelt of Faith Assembly of God Church officiating. Cremation has taken place, and burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Casper. Mrs. Fellon was born May 10, 1907, in Barrington, Ill., to Louis F. and Martha E. (Washakie) Tuegel. The family moved to Gillette when she was 10 years old. She married
John Fellon on March 1, 1937, in Hardin, Mont. The family lived in Gillette until 1942, when they moved to Edgerton. Mrs. Fellon enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing, crossword puzzles, quilting, family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, travel and shopping at secondhand stores. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, six brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson. Survivors include another daughter, Virginia Custer of Edgerton; a son, Keith of Thermopolis; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Robert Deyoe `Bob' Edwards
Robert Deyoe Bob Edwards, 67, of Buffalo died May 27, 2008, at his residence. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. A memorial reception will follow at Buffalo American Legion Hall. Mr. Edwards was father of Janet Hamstreet of Sheridan. He was born July 20, 1940, in Casper to Elisha and Betty Edwards. He attended high school in Casper and was a member of the football and wrestling teams. He moved 38 years ago to Buffalo, where he owned and operated City Electric. He participated in community youth programs, was member, board member and past president of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, and was lead coordinator for the Christmas Lighting Committee. He also contributed lighting for the Christmas Chili Supper for many years and helped people with their float lighting and generators. He was involved in Kiwanis for many years and helped with the organization's annual pancake breakfast. He was a member and captain of Johnson County Search and Rescue. He reportedly contributed a large portion of the electrical materials and worked many hours to help construct the current Search and Rescue building. He and his wife, Mickey, helped develop the Buffalo Skating Association and build the current skating rink in the city's park. He also set the bronze buffalo at Buffalo High School. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, bowling, boating, his cabin and being with his family. Survivors include his wife; five other children, Alan Sword of Buffalo, Lori Brown of Fairview, Tenn., Teri Kovaleski of Albuquerque, N.M., Koni Sickel of Mills, and David A. Christensen of Denver; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Scott Edward Sutton
A celebration of life for Scott Edward Sutton, 49, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sutton's Tavern, 1402 N. Main St. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Sutton died May 27, 2008, at his residence. He was born July 21, 1958, in Cheyenne to Donald Edward and Betsy (Merrill) Sutton. He grew up and attended school in various towns around the state. After graduating from high school, he worked as a butcher before going to work for Frontier Oil Co. in Cheyenne, where he was company foreman for 13 years. He moved to Sheridan in October 1993 and owned and operated Sutton's Tavern. He enjoyed playing pool, four-wheeling, cars and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a son, Travis of Sheridan; a daughter, Mary Emally Sutton of Crawley, Texas; three brothers, Rick, Bruce and Mark; and two sisters, Karen and Lisa.
Dorothy Shireman `Dot' Butler
Dorothy Shireman Dot Butler, 89, of Sheridan died May 27, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Kevin Jones officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Peter's Columbarium. Charles Lee `Chuck' Gaston
Funeral services for Charles Lee Chuck Gaston, 77, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Family Life Center, 118 W. Fifth St. Mr. Gaston died May 20, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Gaston was born May 6, 1931, in Gillette to Alpheus and Florence Gaston. He married
Betty L. Hunter on June 12, 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving until he was honorably discharged Dec. 14, 1954. He worked at Sheridan VA Medical Center for 34 1/2 years until 1986, when he retired. He was a life member of the Elks Club and the Family Life Center. He enjoyed fishing, walking, hunting, gardening, the mountains, going to garage sales, and coffee at the Wal-Mart McDonald's with friends.
