Jay D. Harris
Jay D. Harris, 49, died Oct. 1, 2007, at his Sheridan residence. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services are 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home, the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Born Feb. 23, 1958, in Gillette to Philip and Katherine Harris, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1976 and worked as a draftsman for Peter Kiewit. Mr. Harris was a member of the 7th Cavalry Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially bow-hunting. Survivors include his mother, Katherine Maasch; five siblings, Mikealena Olson of Sheridan, Roxanne Schuppe, Elizabeth Harlson, and Jon Harris, all of Billings, and Patrick Harris of St. Mary, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit game-preservation and conservation organizations of the donor's choice.
Claude F. Stevenson
Memorial services for Claude F. Stevenson, 96, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with Al Badgett officiating. Mr. Stevenson died Sept. 28, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born March 5, 1911, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Charles Robert and Emma Marie Stevenson. He married
Elizabeth Madson on Dec. 13, 1931, in Northwood, Iowa. She died in 1977. Mr. Stevenson worked in the printing business in Northwood, Washington, D.C., and Bozeman, Mont., before moving to Sheridan. He worked for The Sheridan Press and the Mills Co. After retiring from the Mills Co., he worked on special projects for Sheridan Printing and was the last Linotype operator in Sheridan. For several years after retiring, he spent summers managing the gardens at Eatons' Ranch. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains, photography and travel. He was a Mason, a 32nd Degree member of Scottish Rite, and a member of the Kalif Shrine and Kalif Oriental Band. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Kruse; a daughter, Kathryn; and a grandson. Survivors include his son, David G. of Sheridan; one granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kalif Shrine Endowment Fund, 145 W. Charles Wayne McKenzie
Former Sheridan resident Charles Wayne McKenzie, 41, of Rock Springs died Oct. 1, 2007. Cause of death has not been determined. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Jane Holler
Private graveside committal of cremains is planned for Jane Holler, 83, of Sheridan. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Holler died Sept. 30, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Born July 14, 1924, in Sheridan, she grew up and graduated from high school here. She worked at Eatons' Dude Ranch after high school. She married
Rusty Holler in 1945. They worked on the Gregg Ranch on Little Goose Creek. In 1948, they moved to the 60 Bar Ranch north of Gillette, where they spent the next 40 years. They retired and moved back to Sheridan in 1987. Mr. Holler died Sept. 5, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Holler of Billings. Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Stella E. Davis
Funeral services for Stella E. Davis, 88, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Davis died Sept. 28, 2007, at her residence. She was born May 11, 1919, in Dietz to Gregary Gus and Anna (Bartis) Kumor. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1938 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Howard W. Davis on Dec. 23, 1943, in San Francisco. While in San Francisco, she worked in a drug store. She later worked at the Cloverleaf Bakery and Eventide (Sheridan Manor) in Sheridan. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Does and was a past member of Kendrick Golf Association. She enjoyed gardening, artwork, playing golf, camping and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Micheal John; two brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include another son, Fred of Sheridan; two daughters, Jennifer Johnson of Sheridan and Sandy Kinnaird of Banner; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Patricia A. Asmussen
Patricia A. Asmussen, 71, of Sheridan died Sept. 29, 2007, at her residence. Cremation has taken place, and services will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mary Louise Tanner
A memorial service for Mary Louise Tanner, 85, of Sheridan will be later at Bethesda Worship Center. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Tanner died Nov. 27, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born July 9, 1922, in Ada, Okla., to Delbert and Inez (Wallace) Lambert. The family moved to Escondido, Calif., when she was a child, and she grew up and attended schools there. She married
Robert L. Tanner on March 22, 1939, in Escondido. She was a homemaker and did housekeeping for several families in the Escondido area. Mr. Tanner died in 1978. Mrs. Tanner moved to Sheridan in 1985 to be near family. A member of Bethesda Worship Center, she enjoyed her flower garden, painting, crafts, and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and one granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, William L. of Phoenix and Robert L. of Midland, Mich.; three daughters, Opal Campbell of Midland, Carol Leining of Marlin, Texas, and Betty Hahn of Sheridan; a sister, Betty A. Kurtz of Escondido; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Bill E. Archer
A memorial service for Bill E. Archer, 70, of Story will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Story Woman's Club with the Rev. Tom Ogg officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Archer died Nov. 26, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1937, in Sheridan to Lloyd and Elsie (Walker) Archer. He attended school in Story and Sheridan and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He served in the military during the Korean conflict. He married
Constance Schaefer on July 6, 1962, in Sheridan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his mandolin and guitar and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cliff and Bud. Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Rice Lake, Wis.; three daughters, Jacqueline Lowry of Clear Lake, Iowa, Michelle Engum of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Geraldine Larson of River Falls, Wis.; a sister, Dorothy Terry of Gillette; a brother, Floyd Archer of Belvidere, Tenn.; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Story Woman's Club or Story Centennial Museum.
Bobbie Joe Johnson
Graveside services with military honors for Bobbie Joe Johnson, 75, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Nov. 25, 2007, in Denver VA Medical Center. He was born in Paris, Tenn., on March 17, 1932, to Brent and Minnie Johnson. He served in the Air Force from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1953 after serving in Korea. He enlisted in the Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1965-67. He received the Purple Heart, 27 air medals, a Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam. He was a police officer in Roseberg, Ore., from 1955-62 and a self-employed pilot in Paris from 1967-83. He married
Nancy Wilson on Nov. 20, 1986, in El Paso, Texas. They moved to Sheridan in 1988. Mr. Johnson was caretaker for the Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherree Johnson of Paris; a son, Brent Johnson of Courtland, N.Y.; four stepchildren, Judy Efaw of El Paso, Keli Ladd of Syracuse, N.Y., Lori Springer of Grover Beach, Calif., and Ronnie Ward of Paris; a sister, Mary Miclean of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. James E. `Dick' McKenzie
Memorial services for James E. Dick McKenzie, 83, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. McKenzie died Nov. 20, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Sayle, Mont., to Frank and Kate McKenzie. He married
Betty J. French on Dec. 30, 1946, in Hardin, Mont. He lived his life as a rancher and loved cattle and horses. He was preceded in death by a son, James E. McKenzie Jr.; two sisters; a brother; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Chuck of Gillette and Rich of Sheridan; three sisters; three brothers; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Adelaida A. Caroll
Dr. Adelaida A. Caroll, 90, of Sheridan died Nov. 23, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Dr. Caroll, who earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1940, was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, to Ceferino and Alicia (Carreras) Jiminez-Rojo. She married
Servio Caroll on Dec. 17, 1944, in Havana. She dedicated her professional career to working with infectious diseases in the laboratory, where she was later director. She also designed and sewed clothing for herself and her family and studied at a conservatory to become a master pianist and teacher. She was a strong anti-communist and participated in the anti-Castro underground. She sent her son to the United States after the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion failed. She and her husband came to Sheridan in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant great-grandson. Survivors include her son, Servio Carroll (who spells his name with two r's) of Sheridan; a brother, Oscar J. Rojo; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Catherine Buckner Peacock
Catherine Buckner Peacock, 84 of Cedartown, Ga., died Nov. 21, 2007. She was mother of Michael Clay Peacock of Sheridan. Funeral services were this morning in First Baptist Church of Rockmart, Ga. Burial is in the family lot of Rose Hill cemetery with arrangements by Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Rockmart. Mrs. Peacock was born March 12, 1923, in Riverside, Ala., to Lela Pearson Buckner and Hershel Buckner. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockmart and was a retired school teacher with 37 years' service in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri, South Carolina, Florida and Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Billy Peacock. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Ann Peacock of Rockmart; a second son, William Lee Peacock of Rockmart; a brother, John Marion Buckner of Poulsbo, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Loa Carpenter
Loa Carpenter, 72, of Sheridan died Nov. 23, 2007, in Sheridan Manor after a long illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop John Slaughter officiating. Burial will be in the Elks cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Carpenter was born Oct. 30, 1935, to Nathan and Lettie Pierce. She trained with Catholic sisters to work at the hospital while she was in high school. After high school, she received her teaching degree from Western Montana College of Education in Dillon. Her first teaching job was in White Sulphur Springs, Mont. She married
Bruce Carpenter on May 30, 1956, in St. Ignatius, Mont. In addition to being a wife, mother and teacher, Mrs. Carpenter cooked for ranch crews, was a substitute teacher, worked in Yellowstone National Park, was a Head Start teacher and nurse's aide, and managed the parts department at Montgomery Wards. She was also past president of Big Goose Women's Club, a 4-H leader, Cowbells leader and Camp Fire Girls leader. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Loa Marie Francis of Cut Off, La., Marcella Ring of Evanston, and Gerry Smith of Texarkana, Ark.; a son, Charles of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy M. Pedulla
Dorothy M. Pedulla, 87, of Sheridan died Nov. 23, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Pedulla was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Sheridan to Jett and Carrie (Nelson) Swinyer. She grew up and attended schools here and was a 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Roco Pedulla on July 16, 1939, in Hardin, Mont. She worked at Holly Sugar Factory, National Coil Co. and XL Tire Co. as a bookkeeper. A member of Eagles Auxiliary, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, the family's cabin in the Big Horn Mountains, and dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son and a daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Loyola Kiefling of Jackson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Howard W. Jorgenson
Howard W. Jorgenson, 94, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at his residence. Private graveside services will be in the Sheridan Elks cemetery under direction of Kane Funeral Home.

Keith Burton Salmonson
Keith Burton Salmonson, 86, of Sheridan died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be at a later date at Bethesda Worship Center. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Salmonson was born July 26, 1921, in Detroit to Albe and Christina (Scholberg) Salmonson. He grew up and attended schools in Dearborn, Mich., and was a 1946 graduate of Michigan Agricultural College in Dearborn. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines. He married
Carol Potee in 1946 in Ann Arbor, Mich. She preceded him in death in 1995. He married
Carolyn Watt in Junction City, Ore., in 1999. She preceded him in death in 2005. He was a missionary, associated with the Agricultural Missionary and the Peace Corps in Ecuador (the Heifer Project). He was administrative assistant in the biology department at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He also was an organic farmer and a senior companion. He was a member of the Jewish Voice Ministry, the Marilyn Hickey Ministry, the Benny Hinn Ministry, Messianic Vision, Global Prayer Digest, Jerusalem Prayer Team and Open Doors U.S.A. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, singing, traveling and sports, especially football, basketball and baseball. He was involved in churches in Sheridan. Survivors include a son, Loren Kjell of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Rachel Lynne of Winston-Salem and Heidi Jo of Fairfield, Iowa; two sisters, Carol Mills of Plymouth, Mich., and Sally Warner of Traverse City, Mich.; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Open Doors in California or the Oasis of Love Ministry Outreach in Sheridan.
