Mary Lou Cahill
Mary Lou Cahill, 79, of Woonsocket, S.D., died Aug. 31, 2007, in Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. She was mother of Lori Strandholm of Sheridan. Funeral services were this morning in St. Wilfrid's Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial was in St. Wilfrid's Catholic cemetery under direction of Basham Funeral Chapel of Woonsocket. Mrs. Cahill was born May 20, 1928, in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Nick and Blanche (Jobe) Anton. She was a 1946 graduate of Wessington Springs High School and attended South Dakota State University and St. Theresa's College in Winona, Minn. She married
Patrick Cahill on May 29, 1950, in Wessington Springs. She worked for the Farmer's Home Administration, the grocery store in Wessington Springs, and as deputy in the offices of the Sanborn County treasurer, register of deeds and clerk of courts. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, Modernaires Craft Club, American Legion Auxiliary and various other community organizations. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, sewing, camping, baseball, fishing and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael. Survivors include three sons, Dr. William Cahill of Huron, S.D., Dan of Oceanside, Calif., and Tom of Burfordville, Mo.; three other daughters, Kim Chambers of Butte, Mont., Lynn Brueske of Woonsocket and Kari Stulken of Pierre, S.D.; two brothers, Richard Anton of Rapid City and David Anton of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Bernadine Bjorkman of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Margaret Segovia of Honomu, Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ralph William Oaks Jr.
Ralph William Oaks Jr., 57, of Sheridan died Aug. 26, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Oaks was born May 11, 1950, to Ralph W. and Margaret A. Oaks Sr. in Battle Creek, Mich. He graduated from Woodland Park High School in Sheridan and served in Vietnam with the Navy. He also later served with the Coast Guard. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Debra. Survivors include his mother; a son, Clayton of Kokomo, Ind.; two sisters, Linda Smith and Chris Burns, both of Canon City, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Saul Oscar Larson Jr.
Saul Oscar Larson Jr., 81, of Sheridan died Aug. 31, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. A memorial service will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Larson was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Ashland, Wis., to Saul Oscar and Lottie Lois (Cornwall) Larson Sr. The family moved to Shoshoni when he was 12. He received a pharmacy degree from the University of Wyoming and owned and operated City Rexall Drug in Thermopolis until 2001, when he retired. He was an inpatient at Sheridan VAMC. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Owen Larson. Survivors include his wife, Albert Jene Larson of Thermopolis; three daughters, Catherine Rush of Thermopolis, Sharon Fink of Issaquah, Wash., and Laree Earl of Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
James Fredrick Dillinger Jr.
BUFFALO - James Fredrick Dillinger Jr., 85, of Buffalo died Sept. 2, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with his family as officiants. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside services. Thelma A. Shell
Thelma A. Shell, 85, of Sheridan died Sept. 2, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery.
Douglas `Jim Palser'
A reception in celebration of the life of Douglas "Jim" Palser, 56, of Sheridan will be 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus hall. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Palser died Aug. 29, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was born April 23, 1951, in Greeley, Colo., to Dale and Louise (Burger) Palser. He grew up and graduated from high school in Kimball, Neb., and attended college in Kearney, Neb. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He married
Emma Lasala on March 30, 1973, in the Philippines. After service, he lived in Vernal, Utah, and Hanna before coming to Sheridan in the late 1970s. He worked for Kiewit then at Decker Coal until the 1988 strike, when he attended nursing school and became a registered nurse. He worked for Kiewit for more than 35 years. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed the mountains, hunting, and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rick; and a sister, Linda. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gwen Palser of Bozeman, Mont., and Jennifer Palser of Sheridan; a brother, Eddie of Spring, Texas; a sister, Glenna Reed of Sheridan; and two granddaughters.
Grace Estelle Williams
BUFFALO - Grace Estelle Williams, 100, of Buffalo died Aug. 30, 2007, in Amie Holt Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Union Congregational Church with the Rev. Nancy Brooks officiating. Private burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jerry Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo.
James Cerwick
Mass of Christian Burial for former Sheridan resident James Cerwick, 21, of Bellevue, Wash., will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan with the Rev. Tom Ogg officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home, followed by a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery after Friday's service. Mr. Cerwick died Oct. 27, 2007, in Bellevue due to a house fire. He was born Sept. 24, 1986, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ray Cerwick and Collette (Mallinger-Cerwick) Prill. The family lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa, then moved to Sheridan in 1991. He participated in sports throughout his school years and was a member of the soccer team during his final two years of high school. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 2005, then had several jobs before moving to Bellevue. He worked for Olympic Boats at the time of his death. He enjoyed playing the guitar, attending concerts, listening to music, watching movies and travel. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Barbara Mallinger. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, John Prill, of Sheridan; his father of Perry, Iowa; four brothers, Jesse, Michael and Mason Cerwick and Stephen Prill, all of Sheridan; a sister, Stephanie Prill of Sheridan; three grandparents, James Mallinger of Fort Dodge, James Cerwick of Hardy, Iowa, and Sally Cerwick of Duncombe, Iowa; and two step-grandparents, Bud and Terri Prill of Ranchester.
Rodger James Parrish
Graveside services for Rodger James Parrish, 67, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson-Tall Bull cemetery in Kirby, Mont., under direction of Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Parrish, also known as Nakoxhaa Eho'esestse (High Bear), died Oct. 28, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center following an extended illness. At his request, cremation has taken place. He was born July 5, 1940, in Lame Deer, Mont., to Emmett and Alice Wilson Parrish. He attended schools in Germany, St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Mont., and Busby (Mont.) Boarding School. After school, he worked at ranches in Montana and Wyoming and on road construction in Utah and Montana. He also worked at Decker Coal from 1972-86, at St. Labre Indian School, Montana Power in Colstrip, and Western Energy, from which he retired in 2005. He was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. He served in the Army in 1963 and was a 39-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed rodeos, fishing, crafts, and reading Westerns and books about American Indian culture. He supported his children in their school and sports, attended sporting events, and took his dog, Mary Lee, wherever he went. Survivors include his daughter, Lynsey Parrish; a son, Scott Woodward; two sisters, Mary Ann Nickerson and Delpha M. Murray; and two adopted sisters, Adeline Fox and Delpha Harris.
Helen Martinek
Sheridan County native Helen Martinek, 90, of Spearfish, S.D., died Oct. 28, 2007, in Spearfish Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be later. Arrangements are with Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish. Mrs. Martinek was born April 18, 1917, in Kleenburn to George and Anna Wantulok. She lived most of her life in this area. She was a retired employee with the Veterans Administration. She married
Mike Martinek on Jan. 11, 1936, in Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Carol; a sister, Ann Ades; and a brother, George Wantulok. Survivors include two sons, Larry of Gillette and Donald of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Andrew Lonnie George Nelson
Funeral services for Andrew Lonnie George Nelson, 18, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethesda Worship Center with the Rev. Tim Tromble officiating.
Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Mr. Nelson died Oct. 26, 2007, in Thorne-Rider Park.
He was born Dec. 6, 1988, in Sheridan to David and Kelley (Slates) Nelson. He grew up and attended schools here.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, backpacking and skateboarding with his cousin Kyle and other friends.
He attended Bethesda Worship Center.
Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; three sisters, Amy Perkins of Hot Springs, Ark., and Amber Evans and Autumn Evans, both of Gillette; and grandparents Jean and E.E. Lonabaugh and Jean Walker.

June G. Hartman
June G. Hartman, 91, of Sheridan died Oct. 26, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and private family services have been held. Arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hartman was born June 26, 1916, in Greeley, Colo., to Arthur and Violet Twist. The family moved to Denver after she was born, and she graduated from South High School there. She married
Clifford R. Hartman on Sept. 1, 1940. They moved to Hotchkiss, Colo. The family moved to Sheridan in November 1958. Mrs. Hartman enjoyed knitting, sewing and working on projects at the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center. She also enjoyed reading, visits from her grandchildren, being taken for pizza by her grandson Jon, and daily walks with her friend Marie Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Ralph Jr.; and a great-grandson. Survivors include four daughters, Jeanice Massaro of Mesa, Ariz., Jeanette Shreve of Tallahassee, Fla., Charlene Jorgenson of Prescott, Ariz., and Judy McCasland of Sheridan; a son, Rex of Mesa; two sisters, Gail Fitzsimmons and Gloria VanHouten of California; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
