Ethel Adamson
Ethel Adamson, 96, of Dayton died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her residence. Visitation is until 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Adamson was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Dayton to O.P. Morton and Laura Etta (Sayer) Mock. She grew up on a ranch near Dayton, attended the Ohlman School at age 5 and graduated from Dayton High School. She was a 1925 graduate of the normal training program at Sheridan High School and began teaching at the Little Blue School. She also attended beautician school in Denver. She married
Waldon Adamson on Sept. 11, 1933, in Hardin, Mont. The couple ranched near Dayton until they retired. Mrs. Adamson remained on the ranch. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sheridan and enjoyed watching wildlife, reading, studying the Bible, entertaining friends and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and two brothers. Survivors include two nieces and one nephew. Anna M. Dooley
Former Sheridan resident Anna Merlene Dooley, 74, of Fort Laramie died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church with burial in Fort Laramie cemetery. Arrangements are with Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington. Mrs. Dooley was born July 16, 1930, in Torrington to Merle and Marie (Worthen) Potter. She grew up and graduated from high school in Fort Laramie. She married
Don Schwartzkopf. They moved to Casper and divorced in 1956. She married
Bill Dooley in January 1957 in Casper. They moved to Sheridan in 1971 and lived here until 1988, when they moved to Reno, Nev. They were later transferred to Freeport, Pa., by Mr. Dooley's company. He retired in June 2000, and the couple moved to Fort Laramie. Mrs. Dooley played the piano and enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting and working in the garden. She was a member of the Elks Club, AARP and Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen, and a daughter, Carolyn. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Don Schwartzkopf and Fred Dooley, both of Sheridan, Gregg Dooley of Gillette and Frank Dooley of Reno; her mother of Torrington; a brother, Charles Potter of Fort Laramie; a sister, Francis Webb of Cheyenne; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jeanne M. Dunkin
Sheridan native Jeanne M. Dunkin, 65, of Victor, Mont., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, Mont. A private family graveside service was Wednesday at Dunkin cemetery in Victor. Arrangements were with Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory in Hamilton. Mrs. Dunkin was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Sheridan to Walter Charles and Avis Maxine (Barber) Grubb. She enjoyed bowling, playing the organ, gardening, sewing and crafts, fishing, boating and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Lane Ritchie, and a brother, Walter Harvey Grubb. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Dunkin; a son, Kelly Riley; three stepdaughters, Shari, Robin and Kim; a twin sister, Jeannette Barton of Sheridan; another sister, Marilyn White of Spring, Texas; a brother, Robert Grubb of Oregon; and two grandchildren. Kenneth Dean Copp
Kenneth Dean Copp, 60, of Ranchester and Wright died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Wright. Viewing will be 2-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Canon Ray Clark officiating. Mr. Copp was born Nov. 15, 1944, in Casper to Albert Raymond and Alice Bernadine (Bainey) Copp. He was schooled in Midwest. He married
Carol McCalla on Aug. 3, 1963, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Mr. Copp was employed by Washington Group International as a construction/oiler at the Black Thunder Coal Mine in Wright. He enjoyed four-wheelers, new pickup trucks, the mountains, and spending time with his grandchildren and his Chinese pug dogs, Twister and Princess. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Delores, Helen and Janet; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife of Ranchester; two sons, Mac and Dean, both of Sheridan; a daughter, Tina Fauber of Sheridan; a sister, Norma Cain of Glenrock; two brothers, Charles of Rock Springs and Robert of Buffalo; and 10 grandchildren.
Marie Bradley Morrow Wescott
Marie Bradley Morrow Wescott, 86, of Billings died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Diamond Willow personal care home, according to her family. She was the sister of Dorothy Enzi of Sheridan. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Billings, followed by a light lunch. Mrs. Wescott was born June 27, 1918, on the Bradley homestead in Treasure County, Mont. The family moved to Hysham, Mont., in 1926, and Mrs. Wescott graduated from Hysham High School in 1935 as salutatorian. She moved to Billings and graduated from Billings Business College in 1936. After graduation, she went to work for Midland Implement. She married
Kenneth E. Morrow on April 13, 1940. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Hysham and, later, First Presbyterian Church in Billings, where she was recognized for more than 60 years of membership. The family lived in various places in Wyoming and Montana from 1946-52, while Mr. Morrow worked as a self-employed trucker. Mrs. Wescott worked for Montana Motor Transport from 1952-54, then for Montana National Bank until 1980. The bank had been renamed Norwest Bank, and Mrs. Wescott was an assistant trust officer when she retired. She was a charter member of Rim Rock Chapter of NSA now Professional Secretaries International. She became a Certified Professional Secretary in the early 1960s and was Secretary of the Year for the Colorado-Wyoming-Montana Division of NSA in 1963. She was also a member of Yellowstone Genealogy Forum and Yellowstone Historical Society for many years. Mr. Morrow died Feb. 12, 1970. Mrs. Wescott married
Lester L. Wescott on June 28, 1975. The couple enjoyed dancing, cards, golf and travel. Mr. Wescott died in February 1987. In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Wescott was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Diane Wescott Ostendorff, and a sister, Wilma Bradley Curtis. In addition to her sister, survivors include a daughter, Elsie Johnson of Cody; two sons, Ed of Billings and Dick of Carrollton, Texas; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Ardith L. Kellogg
Sheridan native Ardith L. Kellogg, 69, of Laramie, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Memorial services were Jan. 27 at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home with inurnment in Green Hill cemetery. Mrs. Kellogg was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Sheridan to Murrell and Fern (Tibbetts) Halstead. Chester Ellenwood in 1950 in Hardin, Mont. The family moved to Laramie in the mid-1960s. Mrs. Kellogg went to work in 1966 for University of Wyoming Food Service. She retired after 27 years. She and Mr. Ellenwood were divorced, and she married
T. Gordon Kellogg on June 1, 1977, in Las Vegas. She enjoyed collecting dolls and glassware. She was preceded in death by her husband and all her siblings. Survivors include three sons, Steve Ellenwood of Puyallup, Wash., Mike Ellenwood of Sheridan and Scott Ellenwood of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Paula Ellenwood of Laramie; four stepchildren, Kirk Kellogg of Casper, Kenna Avery of Cheyenne, Kim Kellogg of Laramie and Karen Hays of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Allen Edwin Kurtz
Sheridan native Allen Edwin Kurtz, 77, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at his residence, according to his family. Mr. Kurtz was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Sheridan to Noah and Martha (Packard) Kurtz. He served in the U.S. Navy, then earned a degree in engineering from the University of Wyoming. He moved to Seattle to work for Boeing and spent his entire professional life with the company. He worked on projects including the galley cart lift for the Boeing 747. He also worked on projects outside Boeing, including a solar heating system for his neighborhood swimming pool and remodeling the Queen City Yacht Club Bainbridge outstation dock. He married
Mary Tharalson in Seattle in 1954. They lived in south Seattle until her death in 1980. He married
Kathleen Sproule in Renton, Wash., in 1984. They moved to Bainbridge Island in 1990. Mr. Kurtz was a longtime member of the Queen City Yacht Club. He participated in several predicted log races, including an extended trip to Alaska in 1989 aboard the Kaylen. He also participated in the Eagle Harbor Condominium Association and enjoyed playing bridge and watching football on television. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra Kurtz and Stephanie Mascis, both of Seattle; two brothers, Joseph of Sequim, Wash., and James of Auburn, Wash.; two sisters, Jane Culver of Los Angeles and Gene Lewis of Meeteetse; and three grandsons. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, donors do something kind for someone special.
Helen C. Holwell
Helen Charlotte Holwell, 100, of Sheridan died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Holwell was born June 22, 1904, in Omaha, Neb., to Carl and Hanna (Anderson) Larson. She married
Myrle Holwell on Dec. 23, 1930, in Newcastle. She enjoyed baking, cleaning, attending church, working word-search puzzles and visiting with family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Barnes of Mills; three sons, Kenneth, Clifford and Fred, all of Sheridan; a sister, Olga Holwell of Newcastle; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Curtiss L. Brenden
Curtiss L. Brenden, 56, Sheridan, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, the Rev. Ronald Nelson officiating, with burial in Homestead, Mont. Born Aug. 22, 1948, in Williston, N.D., to Vernie and Lorraine (McKenzie) Brenden, he grew up on the family farm near Homestead until the family moved to Froid, Mont., and, in 1963, to Dodson, Mont. He graduated from high school in Dodson in 1967, joined the Navy, and served on the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. After the service, he attended college in Denver and Northern Montana College in Havre. He worked for GTA in Chinook, Mont., and Centennial Mills in Box Elder, Mont. He married
Deanna Werbelow on May 31, 1980, in Kremlin, Mont. They lived in Homestead, where Mr. Brenden managed Farmers Elevator. In 1989 he went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a warehouse examiner. The couple lived in Williston until Mr. Brenden retired in 2001. They moved to Sheridan in 2002. He belonged to Twelve-Step Program, American Legion, Lions Club and Glory Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, pinochle, bowling and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Gobin, and twin brothers, David and Joseph. Survivors include his wife; a son, Lance Phillips, Sheridan; two brothers, Robin Brenden of Plentywood, Mont., and Larry Brenden of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Nancy Hansen of Paulden, Ariz., and Verna Hegg of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit the American Cancer Society.
Mary L. George
Mary Louise George, 43, Sheridan, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services were this morning at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, Pastor William Heine officiating. A luncheon for family and friends is noon today at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Born May 22, 1961, in Buffalo to Lester James and Dollie (Bugher) George, she spent her younger years in Buffalo. At age 12, she moved with her family to Ucross and attended school in Clearmont. She then moved to Arvada and, in 1989, to Sheridan. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she enjoyed mule racing, rodeos and the outdoors. Her daughter, Genny, was the love of her life. Her parents, three brothers and a niece preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Genny of Sheridan; a brother, Pat George of Sheridan; six sisters, Leslie George, Nellie George and Ann Straight, all of Clearmont, Ginger Horton and Tammie George, both of Sheridan, and Lynn Martinez of Rock Springs. John H. Davila Sr.
John Henry Davila Sr., 79, Gillette, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of an extended illness. He was father of Teresa Skinner of Sheridan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette, Father Thomas Kadera officiating, with burial at Mount Pisgah cemetery in Gillette. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. today at the church with a vigil at 7 p.m. Born July 13, 1925, in Julesburg, Colo., to Manuel and Beatriz (Jimenez) Davila, he grew up in Julesburg and graduated from Sedgwick County High School there. On Jan. 23, 1950, he married
Phoebe Sixfeathers in Julesburg, where they lived until 1952. They then moved to Kimball, Neb., where he worked at Hodges International Implements and as a farmhand. In 1951 he went to work for Rogers Oil beginning his career in the oil-production industry, which became his passion. In 1961 he moved his family to Gillette and worked for Leumont Drilling, Thompson Drilling, and Shelby Drilling as a derrick hand, driller, tool pusher, and superintendent. In 1983 he retired due to Parkinson's disease. Mr. Davila enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his early years his interests included football, track, soccer, and basketball. He belonged to Saint Matthew's Catholic Church and held various offices with Knights of Columbus including: grand knight, district deputy, membership director, retention chairman, faithful navigator, state advocate, state secretary, and state treasurer. He was also Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll chairman and director for several years, raising funds for handicapped citizens statewide. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Davila, a son, Manuel Davila, and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Davila Jr. of Gillette; seven other daughters, Dianah Schlautman of Boonesville, Mo., Deborah Eldridge Sr., Marsha Niemann, Mary Shea, Beatriz Hochnadel, and Danielle Spelts, all of Gillette, and Anne Snider of Indian Rivers, Mich.; two brothers, Raphael Davila of Denver and James Davila of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Alice Garcia of Huntington Beach and Theresa Davila of Salinas, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Salmonson
Carolyn Salmonson, 68, Sheridan, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Worship Center. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Worship Center, the Revs. Tim Charles, Jerry Houchens and Walter DeLeon officiating, with burial in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Born Aug. 9, 1936, in Sheridan to Earle and Annie (Roberts) Watt, she graduated from Eugene Bible College in 1956. She performed missionary work with Navajo and Witchipec Indians and also in Monterey, Mexico, and Guatemala. She also taught vacation Bible school in the summer and gave evangelistic speeches. She married
Keith Salmonson on June 13, 1999, in Junction City, Ore. She then made four missionary trips to India, two to Israel, and one each to United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Peru, Chile, and Cuba, N.M. She loved cooking, reading biographies and Christian books, and teaching English to Spanish people. She also enjoyed foreign travel, photography, and playing Christian music on the omni-chord, keyboard and piano. A brother, Eugene, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Margaret Beakler of Wilcox, Ariz., and Martha Crenshaw of Eugene, Ore.; three brothers, Robert Watt of Sheridan, Wilton Watt of Borger, Texas, and Daniel Watt of Dayton; three stepchildren, Heidi Jo Walker of Fairfield, Iowa, Loren Salmonson of Seattle, and Rachel Salmonson of Portland, Ore.; and five step-grandchildren. Ruth Milne
Sheridan native Ruth Milne, 89, of Edgemont, S.D., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Monday at the United Churches in Edgemont. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the United Churches in Edgemont with the Rev. Gordon Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the Edgemont cemetery. Arrangements are with McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont. Mrs. Milne was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Sheridan to Anton and Frances Zahradnicek. She taught rural schools in the Sheridan area for four years. She married
George Milne in 1937, and they moved to Edgemont. Mr. Milne worked for the railroad, and Mrs. Milne was a housewife. She was a member of the United Churches, P.E.O. and the order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, George Pete of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Helen Plott of Parkman; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Milne's name for the United Churches in Edgemont.
Connie Kopisch
Former Sheridan resident Connie Kopisch, 83, Longmont, Colo., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Longmont United Hospital. Services were Feb. 17 at Westview Presbyterian Church with burial in Foothills Gardens of Memory. Arrangements were with Howe Mortuary. Born Oct. 13, 1921, in La Junta, Colo., to James C. and Lelia Ophelia (Bromley) Murray, she grew up on a ranch near Las Animas, Colo., and graduated from high school there. She attended the University of Colorado for two years taking nursing classes. She married
Lloyd J. Kopisch on Aug. 29, 1947, in Taos, N.M., and they lived 13 years in Sheridan. They also lived in Las Animas, Fort Wayne, Ind., Des Moines, Iowa, and Sturgis, S.D., before settling in Longmont 30 years ago. Mrs. Kopisch worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration, Social Security Administration, and Department of Housing and Urban Development, retiring in the late 1970s. A member of Westview Presbyterian Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Quester's Club, she enjoyed collecting antiques and playing bridge. A sister, Louise Hake, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sharon Sendon of Missoula, Mont.; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and a niece. Former Sheridan-area resident Isabelle Belle Millspaugh, 99, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Dallas. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Paul Peter Millspaugh. They lived in this area until Mr. Millspaugh died in 1998. A grandson, Frank, and seven brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Lilian of Dallas; a son, Clarence Everton of California; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
