Wanda Lynn
Former Cody resident Wanda Swain Lynn, 91, died April 29, 2002, in Cheyenne.
Wanda was born in Granum, Alberta, Canada and attended junior college in Havre, Mont., and the University of Wisconsin.
She married

Howard Lynn on Sept. 19, 1933, in Missoula, Mont. The Lynns moved in 1942 to Cody where Howard was employed for many years with Husky Oil Co. Wanda moved to Cheyenne in 1999 to be closer to her daughter, Janet Foresman.
Wanda was active at Christ Episcopal Church in Cody. She helped start the Bargain Box as a community outreach program and was a long-time member of the Alter Guild. Wanda also worked at the Cody Visitors Center and Buffalo Bill Historical Center. She was active in Eastern Star and Jobs Daughters. She enjoyed sewing, bridge, fishing and gardening.
She is survived by daughters Janet (Floyd) Foresman and their children Scott and Lynn of Cheyenne, Sharon (Glen) Shelton of Ambler, Pa., and their children Christine, Bruce, Susan, six great-grandchildren and brother Mack Swain of Nevada City, Calif.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1976, her parents John and Olive Swain, three brothers and five sisters.
A memorial service was May 4 in Cheyenne at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.

Leslie Ray 'Hank' Knapp
Leslie Ray "Hank" Knapp, 75, died May 1, 2002, at his residence in Rocky Mountain Manor in Powell.
He was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Newcastle, the second youngest of 11 children born to Charles Winchell and Hazel Fern Bogue Knapp. The family was raised at Rocky Point until Hank was 10 when they moved to Gillette.
In 1944 he married

Genevieve Mae Davis and after the birth of their son Butch, entered the Army and served in World War II. He was a baker in the military and continued with that career upon returning to Gillette.
Hank bought Powell Bakery in 1954 and moved his family to Powell. By then the Knapp family had grown to include daughter Peggy Jo Knapp.
After the sale of the bakery in 1968, Hank had several jobs before finally joining the Powell Police Department in 1973. He enjoyed this challenging occupation until his retirement in 1988.
Hank loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and spent time at his mobile home in Sunlight Basin with his wife Genevieve.
He is survived by his brother Irvin Knapp of Hulett, sister Lois Elaine Thomas of Medford, Ore., son Butch (Rhonda) Knapp of Cody, daughter Peggy (Maynard) Watson of Lincoln, Wash., five grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, wife Genevieve, brothers Bill, Elwood, Detmer, Frank and Miles, and sisters Audre, Etta and Georgie.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Powell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice.
Amanda Kay DeBerg
Amanda Kay DeBerg, 20, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, of injuries received in an automobile accident near Clark.
She was born Sept. 4, 1981, in Hayward, Calif., the daughter of Ronald J. and Barbara S. (Hyde) DeBerg.
Amanda attended schools in California and following her family's move to Cody in 1989 she completed her schooling here, graduating from Cody High School in 1999. She was active in Future Business Leaders of America at CHS.
Amanda enjoyed being with friends and family and making them laugh. A visit from her, with her contagious smile, was sure to brighten your day. She enjoyed living every day to the fullest. Although she well be greatly missed, she'll continue to make everyone who knew her laugh and smile.
Amanda is survived by her parents Ron and Barb DeBerg of Cody, twin brother Don of Cody, sister Sabrina (Will) Malcolm of Bozeman, grandmother Dorothy DeBerg of Cody, grandparents Bill and Tea Hyde of Lander, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Dorothy 'Dorrie' Winants
Dorothy 'Dorrie' Winants, 86, died at the West Park Long Term Care Center on May 5, 2002.
She was born in Baltimore, Md. on Jan. 5, 1916, the daughter of Dorothy and Frank Winants.
Dorrie attended Westover School in Middlebury, Conn. She was an honor student and member of the glee club, dramatic club, senior field hockey team and all-Westover field hockey team.
Dorrie traveled the world and she and her family enjoyed spending summers at Valley Ranch on the upper South Fork. They loved the area so much they purchased the former Clarence Snyder ranch on the South Fork. Dorrie loved living on the ranch and raising Angus cows.
Dorrie had been a resident of the Long Term Care Center for 17 years. She was a joy to be around and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be at the LTCC at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14.
Leola Sironen
Long-time Powell resident Leola Sironen, 82, died May 1, 2002, in Powell.
Leola was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Red Lodge, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Spanger. She grew up in Red Lodge, Butte and other Montana communities and graduated from Carbon County High School in Red Lodge in 1937. She then attended Montana State Normal College in Dillon, before teaching school at the Draper and Fox schools near Red Lodge.
Leola married

Archie Sironen on Feb. 7, 1945, in Englewood, Colo. They lived for a short time in the Denver area before moving back to Red Lodge and then to Powell. Archie began work in the Elk Basin oil field and Leola worked as a legal secretary and later as a clerk for the Department of Agriculture.
Leola was active in the Powell community, serving in leadership roles in the VFW Auxiliary, BPOE Does, Powell Hospital Auxiliary and the community blood drive.
Survivors include sons Paul (Sue) Sironen of Cody and John (Susan) Sironen of McMinnville, Ore., and granddaughter Stephanie Sironen of Cody.
Leola was preceded in death by her husband Archie and sister Mildred.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be at the VFW Hall in Powell at 3 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leola's name may be made to the Powell Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
Justin Mark Anderson
Justin Mark Anderson, 25, died May 5, 2002, of injuries received in an automobile accident near Clark.
He was born Oct. 6, 1976, in Minneapolis, the son of Warren Mark and Kathleen Edna Violet Anderson.
Justin moved to the Clark area three years ago. At the time of his death, he was employed by Titan Truss.
He loved rodeo and bull riding. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing mountain streams, deep sea fishing, horseback riding and hunting elk horns. He loved all wildlife and enjoyed western dancing. Justin was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
He is survived by his father Warren Anderson of Minneapolis, mother and step-father Kathy and Mike Sponsel of Clark, children Taylor, Jacinda and Andrew, all of Minneapolis, brothers Cory Anderson of Richfield, Minn., Ed Anderson of San Diego, Calif., and Wade Wanner of Kansas, sister Paige Wanner of Minneapolis, his grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joint funeral services for Justin and his step-brother Michael Lee Scott Sponsel were May 9 at Ballard Funeral Home. A second service was Saturday in Minneapolis.
Mary C. Digan
Mary C. Digan, 92, died May 6, 2002, at her residence at Bee Hive Home Care Center in Cody.
Mary was born Sept. 12, 1909, to Thomas and Susan Carr in the small town of Largymore in County Donegal, Ireland. Mary was the seventh child in a family of 11.
At age 18, Mary emigrated to America and worked as a nanny for a family in Englewood, N.J.
On Dec. 23, 1942, she married

Patrick Joseph Digan. Joe was in the Army at the time and was stationed in New Orleans, La. Joe went overseas, and Mary worked in a defense plant in Edgewater, N.J. Ford Motor Co. owned the factory where parts were manufactured for machines used in World War II.
After the war the Digans moved to Sheridan. Joe's employment by New York Life Insurance Co. took the Digans to Cody in 1954. Mary worked at the Dairy Queen and various flower shops.
She and Joe enjoyed playing golf with their many friends. In their retirement years they spent winters in California and Arizona.
Mary is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe who died in March 2001.
A rosary service will be 7 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Mary's name to St. Joseph's Childrens Home or a charity of choice.
Ethel Peltier
Ethel Peltier, 88, of Cody died May 6, 2002.
Ethel Axelson was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Mayville, N.D., to Peter and Emma Axelson. She grew up in the Mayville area and moved to Elk Basin where she met and married

Stewart Peltier on Oct. 14, 1933.
They moved to Cody in 1947 where she worked many years for The Toggery dry cleaners.
She was an avid member of Rebecca's, Cody senior center, Senior Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Trinity Lutheran Church, Quilting and Faith Circle.
She is survived by sister Martha Strom of Northwood, N.D., and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 11, 1985, sister Pearl Tostenson of Twin Falls, Idaho, and two nephews.
Burial will be in Mayville.
Michael Lee Scott Sponsel
Michael Lee Scott Sponsel, 18, died May 5, 2002, of injuries received in an automobile accident near Clark.
He was born July 23, 1983, in Minot, N.D., the son of Michael Neal and Debra Kay Welsh Sponsel.
Scott moved to the Cody area two years ago. At the time of his death, he was employed by SSI Energy Corp.
He loved the cowboy life and enjoyed rodeo, bronc riding and horseback riding. Scott also enjoyed truck driving, stock car racing, playing pool, fishing and football.
He is survived by his father and step-mother Mike and Kathy Sponsel of Clark, mother Debra Sponsel of Broomfield, Colo., brother Travis Sponsel and sister Shawna Sponsel, both of Broomfield, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins from Wyoming, North Dakota and Arkansas.
Joint funeral services for Scott and his step-brother Justin Anderson were May 9 at Ballard Funeral Home.
