Zora Evans
DES MOINES, Iowa - Zora Evans, 101, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the Mill Pond Care Center.
She was born Feb. 27, 1907, to William and Lillie Patterson in Lucas, Iowa.
She worked for National Handcraft Society and the Des Moines Register.
Mrs. Evans was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Clark of Independence, Mo., Colleen and husband Nathan Chaney of Tucson, Ariz., and Allen and wife Bonnie Evans of Urbandale, Iowa; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Evans; and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at the Hope Lutheran Church, Des Moines, Iowa. Burial followed at the Glendale cemetery.
Mabel Grace (Chisholm) Blakely
LANDER - Mabel Grace (Chisholm) Blakely, 85, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.
She was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Shoshoni to Amelia and James T. Chisholm. She attended Lander Vocation High School, graduating in 1941.
She took over Chisholm's Jewelry Store in 1975 from her mother. Chisholm's Jewelry was established at Lander by her mother in 1936. The business was moved from Riverton.
She married
Edward Anesi in 1946. He was a building contractor and was killed in a train accident at Casper in June 1967. She married
Howard Blakely around 1983. They worked together in the jewelry store until his death in 1998.
Her interests included flying, and she and her husband used their first Piper Airplane on business trips in Wyoming. She had a commercial pilot rating with more than 50 years of flying. She served as both a member and chair of the airport board in Lander. She was an accomplished watchmaker and her interests also included buying and selling jewelry and watches. She made an endowment of a nursing scholarship at Central Wyoming College and has helped 35 nursing students to obtain their degrees.
She served on the board of several banks as well as numerous other civic organizations. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Thi Sorority Laureate Upsilom chapter.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Lander.
She is survived by her brother, George Chisholm; stepson, Dale Blakely, step-grandchildren, Chad Blakely and Heather Voyles; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Harrison; nephews, Jay Chisholm and Ralph Bille; and nieces, Janice Chisholm, Joyce Chisholm and Mary Jo Fehr.
She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Josephine Milburn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Lander. Visitation will be conducted from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home of Lander.
Steven Ramond Bartlett
GREEN RIVER - Steven Ramond Bartlett, 50, of 2305 Washington St., Green River, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, near Rifle, Colo. He had been a Green River resident for the past 13 years and former resident of Rawlins, Casper, Alcova and Ulysses, Kan.
He was born Jan. 18, 1958, in Rawlins, the son of William and Marie Bartlett. He attended school in Saratoga. He moved to Alcova in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980 and in the reserves from 1980 to 1983.
He met Maggie Boothe in Casper. They were married
on June 9, 1979, in Casper. They have been married
29 years.
Mr. Bartlett worked in the oil field until he went back to school at Casper College. In December 1989, he obtained his associate of applied science degree in electronics.
Following graduation, he worked for Williams Field Services and later Enterprise Products.
His interests included his family, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, making wine, gardening, telling jokes, pranks, laughing and being the center of attention.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Bartlett of Green River; three daughters, Amanda Sullivan and husband Matt of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Stephanie Bartlett and Natalie Bartlett, both of Green River; father, William Bartlett and wife Claudia of Saratoga; two sisters, Katherine and husband Steven Lindemood of St. Mary's, Ga., and Joan Ervin and husband John of Brule, Neb.; two brothers, Bob Bartlett and wife Peggy of Lander and John Bartlett and wife Pam of Saratoga; and nephews, Carl Bartlett and wife Michelle of Thornton, Colo., and Brian Ervin and wife Rachel and Matt Ervin and wife Kelly, all of Ogallala, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Bartlett; and nephew, Brent Bartlett.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River.
Charles "Charlie" R. Compton
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. - Charles 'Charlie' R. Compton, 59, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at his home.
He was a former longtime Rock Springs resident.
He was born Dec. 26, 1948, in Rock Springs to Ray and Thelma (Hand) Compton.
He attended school in Rock Springs and worked for the city of Rock Springs as a senior detention supervisor in corrections for 23 years, retiring in June 2007.
While living in Wyoming, his interests included big game hunting.
Mr. Compton moved to Lake Havasu City a little over a year ago as part of his retirement.
He was a member of Elks No. 2399 and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 4299.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Terry Ann Compton of Lake Havasu City; daughter, Debbra and husband Rick McNalley of Arvada, Colo.; brothers, Richard and wife Judy Compton of Rock Springs and Terry and wife Kim Compton of Richmond, Mo.; sister, Susan and husband Don Gurnee of Hallowell, Kan.; granddaughters, Megan McNalley and Skylar McNalley of Arvada; brother-in-law, Jim and wife Sandy Hahn of Kemmerer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine Easton
GREEN RIVER - Christine Easton, 84, Green River, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, following a sudden illness.
She was born June 3, 1924, in Dicks, Colo., the daughter of Frank and Agnes Echer.
She married
Alan Easton on June 3, 1941, in Rock Springs. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1987.
She graduated from Rock Springs High School and lived in Winton from 1941 to 1947. She then lived in Rock Springs until 1958. She then lived in Kemmerer until 1965. She then moved to Green River.
She owned and operated the Ponderosa Bar from 1974 to 1986.
Her interests included spending time with her family, going to bingo, spending time at her cabin in Pinedale, yearly vacations with her daughter and daughter-in-law and morning coffee visits at the Ponderosa Bar.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Knudsen and husband Al Knudsen of Rock Springs; one son, Robert Easton and wife Patricia Easton of Rock Springs; four grandchildren, Tricia Gunderson and husband Monte of Rock Springs, Amy Parrish and husband David of Pinedale, Michael Easton of Rock Springs and Michele Ginestar and companion Shawn Marshall of Green River; nine great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John Echer and wife LenaBeth of Price, Utah, and Duncan Echer and wife Shirley of Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Agnes Echer; husband, Alan Easton; one sister, Jean Gecan; and two brothers, Charles Echer and another brother who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the Union Congregational Church, 350 Mansface, Green River. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery in Green River. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. The Rev. Jean Wade will conduct the services. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Pat and Al Knudsen, 343 Gale St. Apartment 2, Rock Springs.
Grace Park Schmidt
ROCK SPRINGS - Funeral services for Grace Park Schmidt have been reset. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the First Congregational Church, 1275 Adams Ave., Rock Springs. Bill Luzmore will conduct the services.
Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
Mrs. Schmidt, 83, of 491 College View, Riverton, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at the Morning Star Care Center in Fort Washakie. She had been a former longtime resident of Rock Springs.
Thomas Edward Beckermann
GREEN RIVER - Thomas Edward Beckermann, 57, of Green River, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at the home of his son. A former longtime resident of Green River and resident of St. Genevieve, Mo. He died following a nine-month battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Sainte Genevieve, Mo., the son of Robert and Dollie Beckermann. He attended and graduated from Sainte Genevieve High School with the class of 1969.
He married
Geraldine Bader. They later divorced.
Mr. Beckermann was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Ste. Genevieve Militia, Rendezvous, Jaycees and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his former wife, Geraldine Bader; mother, Dollie M. Okenfuss; five sons, Ben Beckermann and wife Amanda, Dan Beckermann and wife Dina, Brian Beckermann and wife Vanessa, Ed Beckermann and wife Chris and Tom M. Beckermann; one daughter, Mary Rushing and husband aron; four brothers, Robert Beckermann, David Beckermann, Dennis Beckermann and Barry Beckermann; one sister, Linda Smith; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. Interment will follow in St. Genevieve.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Pauline Redman
ROCK SPRINGS - Pauline Redman, 80, of 1322 10th St., Rock Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Sage View Care Center. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, she had been in ill health for several years.
She was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Orent, Ill., the daughter of Louis R. and Theresa Hunt. She attended school in Rock Springs and was a graduate of Rock Springs High School with the class of 1945.
She married
William Tiller in Rock Springs. He preceded her in death in 1976. She later married
Tom Redman. They later divorced.
Ms. Redman was employed as a sales clerk at the UP Store and as a bartender at the Sands Bar. She later went to work for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office as a secretary and retired after many years.
Her interests included spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren; fishing; camping; gambling; working puzzles; crocheting; knitting and animals.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community and Croatian Fraternal Union.
Her survivors include two sons, William Tiller and wife Theresa of Green River and Steven Tiller and wife Pam of Rock Springs; one daughter, Theresa Jean Williams of Rock Springs; two brothers, Raymond Hunt of Reliance and Robert Hunt and wife Dorothy of Magalia, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; one sister, Dolores Harris; and one child in infancy.
Following cremation, memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs.
Inurnment will follow in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Vase Chapel.
Tim Nousi
ROCK SPRINGS - Tim Nousi, 90, of Rock Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at his daughter's home in Rock Springs after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 29, 1917, in Rock Springs, the son of Hiski and Ilmi Laitinen Nousi. He attended schools in Superior and Rock Springs, graduating from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1935.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married
Elsie Huhta on Sept. 22, 1942, in Green River. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1999.
He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Rock Springs Elks BPOE No. 624.
Survivors include, one daughter, Janice Jeffries and husband Ray of Rock Springs; one son, Tim J. Nousi and wife Dottie of Arvada, Colo.; three grandchildren, Lisa Chaney and husband Jim, Tim R. Nousi and Erica L. Nousi; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sara Chaney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services have been conducted.
Charles Hatch Durfee
ROCK SPRINGS - Charles Hatch Durfee, 55, of Rock Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at his residence after a short illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1953, in Powell, the son of Arden and Myra Hatch Durfee. He attended South Elementary School in Littleton, Colo., and graduated from Arapaho High School with the class of 1971. He also attended Arapaho Community College and received an associate's degree.
He married
Valarie Neville in 1974 at Englewood, Colo. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1995. He married
Colleen Hatch on June 28, 1996, in Littleton.
He was employed at Anadarko Petroleum in Rock Springs for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many positions.
His interests included camping, fishing, hunting, playing games, racquet ball, chess, music and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Rock Springs; sons, Charles Durfee of Salt Lake City, Rock H. White and wife June of Nephi, Utah, Tex H. White and wife Alysia of Mapleton, Utah, and Monte H. White and wife Zoe of Pinedale; daughters, Misty Gomez of Albuquerque, N.M., Jenny Boyd of Salt Lake City, Renae Taylor of Rock Springs, Krystal Reed and husband Rusty of Odessa, Texas, and Brooke White of Provo, Utah; one brother, Lloyd Durfee of Berthod, Colo.; one sister, Patty Jo Durfee of Rock Springs; grandchildren, Ahnika, Haydn and McKhia White, Teya, Malyssa and Sierra Reed, Mishayla and Dallin White, Mya Taylor, Jordan Boyd and Baylee, Karyon and Ryder White; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arden and Myra Durfee; and one daughter, Breanna.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the Rock Springs LDS Stake Center, 2055 Edgar, Rock Springs. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in the Lovell cemetery, Lovell.
Vickie Bingham
THAYER, Mo. - Vickie Bingham, of Thayer, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. She had been a resident of Thayer for several years and former longtime resident of Rock Springs.

Andrew James "Drew" Fanning
LABARGE - Andrew James 'Drew' Fanning, 27, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at his home in LaBarge.
He was born Feb. 27, 1981, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., to Ronald and Sherri Fanning. He grew up and attended school in Pinedale. After high school he traveled and worked in Idaho and Wyoming.
His interests included reading, nature, spending time in the mountains, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and being a modern day man of the mountains. He was also knowledgeable about rifles, pistols and shot guns.
He is survived by his parents, Ron and Sherri; brothers, Jason Fanning and George and Christopher Bates; grandmother, Irene Riggs; aunt, Carol Veiths; and uncles, Kevin, Darold and Raymond Riggs.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Norma Richardson; grandfather, Warren Riggs; and uncle, Rollie Riggs.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at the Pinedale cemetery.
Janet Marie Gunyan
ROCK SPRINGS - Janet Marie Gunyan, 77, of 813 Ash St., Rock Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. She had been a lifelong resident of Rock Springs.
She was born July 3, 1931, in Rock Springs, the daughter of Gilbert and Aili Matiliaen Roberts. She attended school in Rock Springs.
She married
Jack Gunyan on Sept. 12, 1947, in Rock Springs. They were married
61 years.
Her interests included spending time with her family; crocheting afghans, tablecloths and doilies; the outdoors; camping; fishing and hunting.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Gunyan of Rock Springs; one son, Jack Gunyan Jr. and wife Betty of Rock Springs; two grandchildren, Jaime Simons and husband Tim of Rock Springs and Nathan Gunyan and fiancée Christina Anderson of Green River; and two great-grandchildren, Mary Lake and Jackson Simon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three children, Danny, Edward and Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday Oct. 30, 2008, at the Vase Chapel. Interment will follow in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Vase Chapel and on Friday morning until time of funeral services at the chapel. Mrs. Gunyan's family will be receiving relatives and friends at 1125 Converse Court in Rock Springs.
Margie Lilllie Wakefield
DIAMONDVILLE - Margie Lillie Wakefield, 84, of 1146 Coalcreek Ave., Diamondville, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A resident of Kemmerer since 1998 and former longtime resident of Cheyenne, she died following a one-year illness.
She was born May 28, 1924, in Cheyenne, the daughter of Herman Otto and Lizzie Otton Drube. She attended school in Cheyenne.
She married
Orson Leroy Wakefield on March 12, 1941, in Chapel, Neb. He preceded her in death in February 1990.
Mrs. Wakefield was active in the Moose Lodge in Cheyenne.
Her interests included sewing, crocheting and spend time at her cabin in the mountains.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Wakefield of Rock Springs, Harvey H. Wakefield of Kemmerer and George Wakefield of Green River; one brother, George Drube of Diamondville; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one son, Wayne Wakefield.
Following cremation, graveside services and inurnment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Cheyenne.
Richard John Michel
ROCK SPRINGS - Richard John Michel, 48, Rock Springs, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. He was a former resident of Rapid City, S.D.
He was born Sept. 11, 1960, in McLaughlin, S.D., the son of Richard John Michel and the former Darlene Mae Olson. He grew up and attended schools in Rapid City. He was a 1978 graduate of Rapid City Central High School. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Mr. Michel was a pipefitter for Local No. 192 and lived and worked in Rock Springs for nearly 30 years.
His interests included hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his four daughters, Lindy Marie, Jessica Lynn, Samantha Jean and Julaire Miranda; parents, Richard and Darlene Michel of Black Hawk, S.D.; one brother, Brian Michel of Casper and Pine Haven; one sister, Brenda Harrison and husband John of Plano, Texas; three nieces; and one great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Wilma Michel and Oscar and Ida Olson; one aunt, Myrna Jundt; one uncle, Louis Simons; and one cousin, Louis John Simons.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the Vase Chapel and on Thursday morning until time of funeral services at the Vase Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pinelawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
