Therese Frances Babel
LARAMIE - Therese Frances Babel, 83, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Spring Wind Assisted Living Facility in Laramie.
She was born July 18, 1923, in Madison, Minn., to Ernest and Mathilda Hammes.
She taught rural school in Lac Qui Parle county for two years and then moved to St. Louis in 1943 where she worked in a defense industry plant during World War II. She moved to Superior in 1945, where she taught school for one year.
She married
George Babel in June 1, 1946. They moved to Rock Springs, where she lived for 60 years.
She worked at the Rock Springs Public Library after her children were grown. She moved to Spring Wind in Laramie in 2005.
Her interests included cooking, arrowhead hunting, card playing, reading and making people laugh.
Mrs. Babel was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community.
She is survived by her brother, Al Hammes of Minneapolis; sons and their wives, Jack and Judy of Carlsbad, N.M., and George and DiAnn of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughters and their husbands, Ginny and Earl Wheatley of Rock Springs, Ruth and Tom Hanks of Laramie, Patty Babel of Tucson, Ariz., and Lori and Jim Druce of Rock Springs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James; sisters, Delores Hammes, Isabel Amtvedt, Leona Hammes and Edith Siebenand; and brothers, Cyril, Joe, George and Charles Hammes.
Following cremation, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs. Friends may call at the church, one hour prior to services.
Cassandra Kay "Cassie" McMullan
GREEN RIVER - Cassandra Kay Cassie McMullan, 64, of Green River died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Panama City, Fla., while celebrating the retirement of her son, Michael James Jimmy McMullan from the U.S. Navy.
She was born April 1, 1943, in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of Bill and Martha Joan Harmon. She was Miss A&W Root Beer and homecoming queen at the Florida Military Academy. She was also a high school swimming champion and life guard.
She has been married
to Barry McMullan for 42 years.
Mrs. McMullan worked as a mother, emergency medical technician, grammar school teachers aid in Baltimore and a middle school physical education teacher in Meridian, Miss.
Her interests included camping and spending time in the outdoors with her family.
She was a volunteer fundraiser and served in the United Cerebral Palsy Telethon. She was director of the Green River Gymnastics Academy.
Mrs. McMullan served the Castle Rock Ambulance Service with dedication for 15 years.
She embraced many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as first counselor in the stake young women's group, visiting teacher and Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by seven children, Mandy Johnson and husband Shawn of Panama City, Marcie and former husband Ted Barney of Green River, Mylinda Kelly and husband Kevin of Williams, Ariz., Mike Jimmy McMullan and wife April of Panama City, Tami McMullan and husband Matt Kelley of Green River, Thomas McMullan of Meridian and Robert McMullan and wife Bree of Green River; two Pomeranians, Toby and Pepi; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Kay; son, Jonathon Barry McMullan; and her father.
Plans for a memorial service in her honor are pending and will be announced at a later date.
Helen O. Franck
LARAMIE - Helen O. Franck, 95, Laramie, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Laramie Care Center.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1911, in Laramie, the oldest child of Nels and Marie (Husom) Jonson.
She attended Nellie Iles School, Laramie High School and the University of Wyoming, where she met her future husband.
She married
Guy Franck on Sept. 1, 1933, in Laramie. The couple lived in Granger, Guernsey and Glenrock where her husband was a secondary school superintendent. He was also a teacher at Laramie High School for two years.
During World War II, while living in Baggs, she also taught school for two years. After the war, the couple returned to Laramie, where her husband was a science and foreign language teacher at the University High School and later served as the director of the UW Auxiliary Enterprises Department until his retirement in 1974.
The couple continued to make Laramie their permanent home and raised a family of three children, Ronald, Bonita Jean and Stephen.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Laramie and was active in the Order of the Eastern Start, VASA Lodge and numerous other social organizations.
She worked at a number of local child-care centers. She later provided child care in her home. Following her husbands death in 1983, she became an active traveler with the Golden Age Club and continued to be active in the church.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Franck and Stephen Franck, both of Laramie; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Bonita Bonnie Chesnut; a sister, Jean Baillie; and a brother, Paul Norman Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Ralph Rohr will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
Robert DeBortoli
ROCK SPRINGS - Robert DeBortoli, 85, of 740 Rugby Ave., Rock Springs, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in his home. A resident of Rock Springs since 1947, DeBortoli had been in ill health for the past year.
He was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Scurelle Valsugana Trento, Italy, the son of Ettore and Maria Sordo DeBortoli. He attended school in Italy.
He married
Maria Capozza on Nov. 7, 1960, in Rock Springs.
DeBortoli was a veteran of World War II with the Italian Army.
He was employed at Kellogg Lumber Company for 33 years and retired in 1983.
DeBortoli was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community, Tyrolean Trentini of Wyoming and Young-at-Heart Senior Citizens Center.
His interests included being an avid outdoorsman, fishing, gardening and hiking to look for mushrooms.
Survivors include his wife, Maria DeBortoli of Rock Springs; one son, Frank DeBortoli of Rock Springs; one daughter, Clara DeBortoli and husband Hanson Ansary of Lansing, Ill.; one granddaughter, Amanda DeBortoli of Rock Springs; several nieces and nephews, including Sonya Plemel and husband Steve, Layne Capozza of Rock Springs, Philip Gordon of Diamond Bar, Calif., Floyd Gordon and wife Karie and Jacqueline Gordon, all of Ogden, Utah; sister-in-law, Mona Capozza; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brant Gordon and Grace Gordon of Ogden, Utah; friend and walking partner, Charles Merlone; and cousins, James DeBortoli of Montgomery, Ala., and Josephine Marick and husband Nick of Chandler, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Sergio Capozza.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2007, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. Father Carl Beavers will officiate. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Saint Josephs Section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday morning at the Vase Chapel until time of funeral services.
Cesar Raul Lopez Rodriguez
ROCK SPRINGS - Cesar Raul Lopez Rodriguez, 18, of Rock Springs, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
He was born March 11, 1989, in Mexico, the son of Raul Lopez Macios and Rosa Maria Rodriguez.
He was employed in the oil field as a construction worker.
His interests included listening to music, playing soccer and cars.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his parents; one sister of Mexico; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs.
Additional services and interment will take place in Mexico at a later date.
Jimmy Dale Alcorn
ROCK SPRINGS - Services have been set for Jimmy Dale Alcorn. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, at Community Church, 509 McKinley Drive, Walden, Colo. The Rev. Jeff Hitchcock will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Walden cemetery in Walden.
Alcorn, 63, of 1325 10th St., Rock Springs, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A resident of Rock Springs since 1999 and former resident of Hayden, Colo., Alcorn died following a lengthy illness.
Edith Lorraine DeCora (Beveridge)
ROCK SPRINGS - Edith Lorraine DeCora (Beveridge), 85, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs, where she had been a resident for one and a half years.
A longtime resident of Rock Springs, she died following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Huntington, Ark., the daughter of George David and Jessie Virginia McCall Daffron. She attended schools in Mansfield, Ark.
She married
Lawrence DeCora on March 7, 1942, in Rock Springs. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1972. She later married
Arthur Beveridge. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Joe DeCora and wife Jean of Rock Springs; one sister, Joyce Oliver of Midland, Ark.; six grandchildren, Dawn DeCora Piaia and husband Mark, Tami DeCora, Tracey Shawn Corbitt, Scott Kelly, Janet Kelly and Brian Kelly and wife Karin; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ali and Karli Piaia, Andy, Madison and Joey Corbitt, Tim, Kayle and Kaden Kelly and Megan, Melisa and Shelby Gabol.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Kelly; seven brothers; and one sister.
Due to her wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be conducted. The family of Edith DeCora (Beveridge) will be receiving guests at Joe and Jean DeCoras home, 2120 Hillcrest Drive, Rock Springs.
Robert J. Logan
RAWLINS - Robert J. Logan, 74, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County with his family by his side.
He was born March 15, 1933, in Wheatland, the son of Raymond and Audrey (Besst) Logan. He graduated from Wheatland High School with the class of 1951. He served in the Air National Guard and the Army.
He married
Mary Catherine Brubaker on June 10, 1956, in Alva, Okla.
He worked for the BC Couch Drilling Company. He also owned and operated the Wamsutter Mercantile and the Wamsutter Caf. He was a deputy sheriff for Sweetwater County in Wamsutter for several years. He served on the Wamsutter City Council and served as a mayor of Wamsutter. He went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department at Wamsutter and shortly afterward was stationed at Patrick Draw as the maintenance foreman. He worked there until 1998 when he retired from the Wyoming Department of Transportation and moved to Rawlins. He also taught welding classes in District No. 3 for WYDOT.
His interests included his family, hunting, fishing, woodworking, welding, etching glass, doing stained glass work, tatting, crocheting and knitting.
Logan is survived by his wife, Catherine of Rawlins; daughter, Jeanneane and husband Steve Askey of Cheyenne; son, Robert Patrick and wife Teresa Logan of Scottsbluff, Neb.; granddaughter, Megan Logan of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Melissa and husband Jason Custer of Laramie and Tanya Lake of Mitchell, Neb.; mother-in-law, Lillian Brubaker of Rawlins; four brothers-in-law, Russell Brubaker of Rawlins, Harry and wife Gaylene Brubaker of Pueblo, Colo., Earl and wife Odilia Brubaker of Muskeego, Wis., and Jim and wife Tina Brubaker of Pueblo; and one sister-in-law, Susan and husband Curt Rand of Saginaw, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Ray Logan; and a daughter, Barbara Joanne Logan.
A Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2007, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Rawlins with Father Sam Hayes and Father Malcolm Reid as the celebrants. Services conclude at the church. GREEN RIVER - Robert R. Bob Gomez, 73, of 1910 Wyoming Drive, Green River, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. A longtime resident of Green River, Gomez died following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Cerro, N.M., the son of Estevan Gomez and Eva Gomez.
Gomez married
Jennie Gomez on Dec. 20, 1958, in Manila, Utah. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1990, in Questa, N.M.
He worked for Texas Gulf as a miner/operator. Gomez served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.
His interests included fishing, hunting, working on his cars and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Eva of Cerro; two sons, Jeff Gomez and Nathan Gomez, both of Green River; four daughters, Lydia Berger and husband Raymond of Cheyenne, Loretta Gamble of Rock Springs, Debbie Gomez and husband Jeff Gomez and Audrey Brangham and husband Bart, all of Green River; one brother, Abel Gomez and wife Joann of Cerro; three sisters, Lucy Archuleta of Cerro, Kathy Gomez of Questa and Jane Garcia of Santa Fe, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; wife; two brothers, Leo Martinez and Joe Gomez; and one sister, Stephanie Gomez.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. Father Tom Sheridan will officiate. A parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, May 13, 2007, at the church. Military graveside service and interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 4 p.m. until time of rosary and at the church Monday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers include Richard Gamble, Raymond Martinez, Charlie Berger, Bart Brangham, Mario Martinez and Poncho Gardea.
