Timothy Patrick Ryan
GREEN RIVER - Timothy Patrick Ryan, 55, of 700 Crossbow inGreen River, died on Thursday, April 27, 2006. A resident ofGreen River for four months and former resident of RockSprings, Ryan died following a sudden illness.
He was born on March 17, 1951 in Kemmerer, the son ofTimothy Lewis and Mary Bertha Ryan. He attended schools inRock Springs.
He married
the former Diana Jane Anastos in Evanston on July23, 1968. They later divorced. He then married
Anita Ryan.They later divorced.
Ryan was a security guard at the Snow King Ski Resort inJackson Hole and a former security guard at the WyomingState Penitentiary in Rawlins. He was a member of theNational Rifle Association, an electrician, a plumber and acoal miner for many years.
Ryan participated in basketball, football and baseball withthe county little league and also played city league menssoftball. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter andfisherman. He loved to camp and spend time with his family.
His survivors include two sons, Timothy Shane Ryan and wifeCynthia of Texas and Stephen Michael Ryan and wife Katherineof Rock Springs, two daughters, Ramona May Beck and husbandCharles of California and Tamara Shawn Coalson and husbandDamon of Texas; three brothers, Robert Hewitt of Reliance,James Hewitt and wife Elna of Rawlins and Michael OSheaRyan and wife Barbara of Rock Springs; four sisters, LindaJean Velikaneye and husband Paul of Aurora, Colo., BettyJean Pearson and husband William of Rock Springs, PatriciaFrounfilter and husband Les of Thornton, Colo. and StellaLouise Ashing; 11 grandchildren, Keith Joseph (Joey) Ryan,Daiquiri Ice Ryan, Hope Hannah Ryan, Jaxon Timothy Ryan,Kelsa Lee Ryan, David Zoe Beck, Johnathon Gabriel Beck,Charity Faye Beck, Victoria Rose Beck, Elizabeth ChristinaBeck and Avery Ann Coalson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins,nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Mary;his maternal and paternal grandparents; one sister, HelenMarie Hewitt; one sister-in-law; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will beconducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the VaseFuneral Home, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call atthe chapel one hour prior to services.
Flora M. Duran
ROCK SPRINGS - Flora M. Duran, 83, of 1605 Donalynn No. 38, Rock Springs, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of New Mexico, Mrs. Duran died following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1922, in Amalia, N.M., the daughter of Otoniel and Esaquia Archuleta Martinez.
Mrs. Duran attended schools in New Mexico.
She married
Celestino Duran on Oct. 5, 1946, in Rock Springs. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Duran worked as a waitress for the Sands Cafe for many years.
Her interests included crafts of all kinds, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one son, Joe Cordova; one daughter, Connie Klien of Idaho; one brother, William Martinez and wife Lois of Rock Springs; one sister, Erminia Martinez Romero of San Luis, Colo.; former sister-in-law, Stella Martinez of Rock Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otoniel and Esaquia; husband, Celestino; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; four brothers, Otoniel Martinez Jr., Basilio Martinez, Onesimo Martinez and Silverio Martinez; and two sisters, Francis Martinez DeHerrera and Pauline Martinez Sanchez.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. The Rev. Killian Muli will conduct the services.
A memorial rosary will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, at the church. Inurnment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Ceme-tery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Stanley Yardas
SAN DIEGO - Stanley Yardas, 86, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at his home in San Diego, Calif. He was a former resident of Rock Springs.
He was born in Delagua, Colo., on Dec. 18, 1919, the son of Vinko and Rose Yardas.
Yardas graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1937. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1938. When his four-year enlistment was almost over, World War II began and he served an additional three years with an honorable discharge. He fought in the battles of Bouganville and Guam. He was also involved in mop-up operations at Guadalcanal.
He married
the former Mary Alice Jockovich of Blairtown on April 5, 1942.
His hobbies included playing the organ, world travel and gardening.
He retired after 36 years with Pacific Bell Telephone as a test board and cable deskman.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice; son, Stanley J. Yardas of Kingman, Ariz.; daughter, Shirley Respicio of Kona, Hawaii; two grandsons, U.S. Air Force Captain Michael Friebel stationed at Tinkas Air Force Base in Oklahoma and U.S.Air Force Captain Joshua Friebel stationed in Japan; three brothers, Albert and Chuck Yardas of Lander and Jim Yardas of Rock Springs; and two sisters, Elsie Dolenc of Rock Springs and Bernice Besso of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was buried April 18, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic cemetery in San Diego with full military honors.
Robert Leon Gettman dies June 4
SALT LAKE CITY - Robert Leon Gettman, 47, a Rawlins native, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, from injuries sustained in a four-wheeler accident north of Rock Springs.
He was born Nov. 6, 1958, in Rawlins, the son of Carolyn (Delpierre) and Marvin Gettman Sr.
As a young man, he was very active in football, Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion baseball. He graduated from Rawlins High School in 1977.
He was employed by Arch-Ryan Plumbing of Rock Springs.
Before moving to Rock Springs in January, he had worked for T&T Plumbing in Rawlins. He recently earned his journeymans plumbing license.
Gettman enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and the family cabin.
Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Newell and her husband Melton of Rawlins; his father, Mervin Gettman Sr. and wife Laura of Virginia; brother, Merv and wife Sue Gettman of Riverton; daughters, Jennifer and Jordan Gettman of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandmother, Kate Gettman of Delta, Colo.; nephew, Matt Gettman and his family; niece, Dezi Palmer and her family, all of Rawlins; and several relatives and friends in Rock Springs and Rawlins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rocky and Lenny Gettman; his grandfather, Rhinney Gettman; and his grandparents, Leon and Lillian Delpierre of Rawlins.
Services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Rawlins, with the Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Mitch Roberts, Mark Kulmus, Ricky Capozzoli, Steve Colson, Jerry Mascarenas, Ron Trevathan and Leo Trevathan.
Alfred V. Debo DeBernardi
ROCK SPRINGS - Alfred V. Debo DeBernardi, 82, of 1313 Virginia St., Rock Springs, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where he had been a patient since June 9, 2006. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, DeBernardi died following an illness of two years.
He was born on April 1, 1924, in Rock Springs, the son of George DeBernardi and Maria Varello.
DeBernardi graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1942. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1948.
He married
Dorothy Brcko on Jan. 26, 1952, in Rock Springs.
DeBernardi was employed for 41 years by the Wyoming High-way Department and retired as district engineer in 1988.
He was a member of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the past president of the Wyoming Engineering Society.
DeBernardi enjoyed spending time with his family at the home he designed and built in Pinedale.
Survivors include is wife, Dorothy DeBernardi of Rock Springs; one daughter, Debra DeBernardi of Rock Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maria; and four brothers, John, George, Attilo and Lebro.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2006, at the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park cemetery. People may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs Sunday, June 18, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. and again Monday one hour prior to services.
Evelyn Overman
LARAMIE - Evelyn Overman, 82, of Laramie, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Clarksburg, W.V., the daughter of Ivan and Pearl (Goodnight) Shaffer. She was raised in Western Virginia. Following graduation from high school she came to Laramie where she met Lloyd J. Overman. They were married
Aug. 21, 1948, in Cheyenne. As her husband worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, they lived in Cheyenne and Laramie. For many years the Overmans were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus during the Christmas holidays in Laramie.
She enjoyed tending her garden and flowers. She also loved animals and sometimes resorted to kidnapping and spoiling the neighborhood pets.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Ivy Rebekah Lodge No. 1, the Order of Eastern Star and the UP Old-timers Club.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Overman and his wife Janet of Laramie; daughter, Patsy Shassetz and her husband John of Rock Springs; a sister, Eleanor DeWeese of Winfield, W.V.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Pearl; her husband, Lloyd; one daughter; one brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home with the Rev. John Verburg officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill cemetery with rites by the Ivy Rebekah Lodge No. 1.
Pallbearers are Chris Shassetz, Ben Roesler, Spike Morck, Jason Roesler, Vince Valdez and Sean Gonzales.
Honorary pallbearers are all of her friends and care providers at Ivinson Memorial Hospital and Laramie Care Center.
George E. Bertagnolli
ST. GEORGE, Utah - George E. Bertagnolli, 68, of 1090 E. 700 South, St. George, Utah, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. A resident of St. George for the past seven years and former longtime resident of Rock Springs, Bertagnolli died following complications from Lou Gehrigs disease.
He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Rock Springs, the son of Edward and Emma Bertagnolli.
He married
the former Donna Hart on July 6, 1968. They spent 38 years together.
His interests included traveling with his wife, spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed going to Mesquite.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Bertagnolli of St. George; daughter, Sandy Venta; brothers, Joe Bertagnolli and wife Mary of Cora, Vic Bertagnolli and wife Louise of Boise, Idaho, and John Partain and wife Brenda of Rock Springs; sister, Loretta Partain of Nampa, Idaho; stepchildren, Steve Sinner and wife Carol of South Jordan, Utah, Susan Buchholz and husband Jerry of Worland and Danny Sinner of St. George; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma; stepfather, Mace Partain; and niece, Cara Ensign.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park. A parish rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the chapel Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 from 4-7 p.m. and Tuesday morning at the church until time of services.
Guy M. Nagel
ROCK SPRINGS - Guy M. Nagel, 52, of Rock Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.
He was born Sept. 4, 1953, in Laramie, the son of Don and Myrna Miller Nagel. He graduated from Green River High School with the class of 1972 and attended Western Wyoming Community College, Northwest Community College in Powell and the University of Wyoming.
He was employed as an environmental technician.
His interests included fishing, photography, the outdoors, puzzles and good food.
Survivors include one sister, Sydney Shauers and husband Andy or Rock Springs; and one niece, Mary Shauers of Rock Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Myrna.
Cremation has taken place. Private memorial services will be conducted.
Alice Claire Thomas
SALT LAKE CITY - Alice Claire Thomas, 75, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Pueblo, Colo., to John and Claire (McGee) Cameron.
She married
Robert Felix McCarrie on May 2, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1975. She later married
Glenn Thomas on Oct. 20, 1979.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she served in the Relief Society. She enjoyed genealogy work and singing in the community choir.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn of Lyman; sons, Ricky McCarrie of Bountiful, Utah and Rodney McCarrie of Green River; daughter, Christine Roberts of Lubbock, Texas; stepchildren, Glenn Thomas of Big Piney, Don Thomas of Mt. View, Burl Thomas of Lake Wales, Fla., and Dorothy Walk of Lyman; sister, Mary Ann Shaw of California; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Randy and Russell; three brothers, John, Robert and Morris; and a sister, Irene.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at the Lyman Stake Center in Urie. A viewing will be conducted one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Lyman cemetery.
Ardath Knutson
GREEN RIVER - Ardath Knutson, 75, of Green River died Sept. 5, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs.
She was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Woolstock, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Lulu Slaughter Martin. She attended schools in Clarion, Iowa, and graduated from Clarion High School with the class of 1948.
Her interests included cooking, telling jokes and traveling.
Survivors include one son, Jon Fletcher of Green River; two daughters, Debra DuRain and husband Roy of Green River and Cindy Sue Knutson of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Esther Heirmer of Algona, Iowa, and June Schumpp and husband Walt of Mason City, Iowa; five granddaughters, Dawn, Liz, Connie, Jody and Heather; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Lulu; three brothers, Layton, Don and Leo; and one sister, Violet.
Following cremation, memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at the Mansface Terrace Sunshine Room, 320 Mansface, Green River.
James Mitchell Arky Crawford
LABARGE - James Mitchell Arky Crawford, 54, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at his home in LaBarge.
He was born Sept. 1, 1952, in Harrison, Ark., the son of James Wesley and Wynona Kathryn Brewer Crawford.
His interests included hunting and spending time traveling on his motorcycle.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Burgoyne of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Aphasia and Jory Burgoyne, both of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Renee Holder of Heyburn, Idaho, and Mary Kuykendall of LaBarge; and his mother, Wynona of Heyburn.
He was preceded in death by his father, James.
Burial will take place in the Viola cemetery Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.
Private family services were conducted.
Brian Michael Hruska
ROCK SPRINGS - Brian Michael Hruska, 20, of 2505 Big Sky Trail, Rock Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006. He was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs.
He was born June 5, 1986, in Rock Springs, the son of Michael James and June Jennings Hruska. He attended school in Rock Springs and was a 2004 graduate of Rock Springs High School.
His interests included snowboarding, wake boarding, playing basketball, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his dog Milo, family projects and vacations.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and June Hruska of Rock Springs; one sister, Rebecca Hruska and boyfriend Dale Riley, both of Rock Springs; three aunts, Debbie Hruska of San Francisco, Calif., Maureen Hitt and husband Pete and Dawn Lund and husband Terry, all of Rock Springs; uncle, Paul Hruska of Phoenix, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Michael and Judy Hruska of Boulder; maternal grandparents, Penny Harvey of Rock Springs and Pat and Carolyn Jennings of Superior; maternal great-grandmothers, Eleanor Jennings of Austin, Minn., and Judie Howe of Rock Springs; and cousins, Geoffrey Lund, Kylee Lund and Makaylee Hitt, all of Rock Springs.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfathers, Keith Howe and Raymond Jennings; and his paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Angela McLeod and Mike and Marjorie Hruska.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. The Rev. Carl Beavers will officiate. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Following the services, cremation will take place.
David Timlin
ROCK SPRINGS - David Timlin, 76, of 829 Burr Drive, Rock Springs, died Tuesday Sept. 12, 2006, at his home. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Jersey City, N.J., Timlin died following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Jersey City, the son of John V. and Rebecca Judson Timlin. He attended schools in Rock Springs.
He married
Ro Timlin on Feb. 12, 1971, in Rock Springs. She preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2005.
Timlin was a truck driver for P.I.E. Trucking until his retirement Jan. 7, 1980.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army.
His interests included going to the Senior Citizens Center, model trains and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Leigh Jones and husband Jim of Rock Springs and Tina Warren of Cheyenne; one brother, John Timlin and wife Pat of Rock Springs; one nephew, Mark Timlin and wife Beverly of Rock Springs; two grandchildren, Jaymee and Dawna Jones; and several cousins and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca; wife, Ro Timlin; one son, David Timlin; and one nephew, Steve Timlin.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. The Rev. Lori Lundblad of the First Baptist Church will conduct the services. Friends may call the Vase chapel one hour prior to services.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the home of John and Pat Timlin, 48 Broadway St., Rock Springs or at the home of Leigh Jones, 917 Sixth St., Rock Springs.
