Eugene T. Lane
ROCK SPRINGS - Eugene T. Lane, Sr., 85, of 928 Adams St., Rock Springs, died Feb. 14, 2006 at his home. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Lane died following a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 17, 1920 in Hanna, the son of John T. and Margaret A. Corrigan Lane.
Lane attended schools in Rock Springs and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1938.
He married
Cassie W. Harrigan on Nov. 16, 1938 in Green River. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1997.
Lane served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers and was employed by the Reliance and Stansbury mines for 10 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for County Road and Bridge for 37 years until his retirement in September 1982.
Lane was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His interests included spending time with his family. He was also an avid Bronco and Jazz fan.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry H. Lane of Donnley, Idaho, Jack T. Lane of Rock Springs and Gene Lane Jr. of Rock Springs; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cassie; two sisters, Evelyn and Margaret; and one brother, Charles Lane.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Corner of C and Pine Streets, Rock Springs. Military graveside services and interment will be in the Mountain View section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs, and on Saturday at the church one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers are Scott Lane, Mark Lane, Terry Lane, Ryan Lane, Lloyd Thayne and Tylar Johnson.
Charles Dale Petersen
GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Charles Dale Petersen, 83, of Garden Grove, Calif., died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Huntington Valley Rehabilitation Center, following an illness of several years.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Charles Carl and Virginia Garnet Finlayson Petersen.
Petersen attended school in Green River, served in the armed forces during World War II, was retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad, and until he became ill, was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Westminster, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen B. of Garden Grove; two brothers, James Vernon Petersen and wife Betty and Alfred Pete Petersen and wife Helen, all of Rock Springs; one sister, Dorothy Sommerfeld of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Sandra Dempsey and husband John of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Nancy Barnett of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia; and one brother, Edward.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2006, by the Rev. Timothy A. Edmondson of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Inter-ment was at Good Shepard cemetery, Huntington Beach.
Sean Francis Johnsen
GREEN RIVER - Sean Francis Johnsen, 26, of 490 Monroe Ave., Green River, died Thursday, April 6, 2006. He had been a longtime resident of Green River.
He was born on March 27, 1980, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Scott C. Bondegard and Frances Ann McMahon.
Johnsen graduated from Green River High School in 1998 and attended Western Wyoming Community College and obtained his associate of arts degree.
He was employed as a field tester for E&J Well Services.
He was a member of Church of Perpetual Skepticism, the Nation-al Action Hero Association, Sweetwater Paranormal Investi-gation Society, unofficial member of the Rat Pack and new member of the hierarchy of angels. He was one of the most unique hitchhikers in the galaxy. He was 007.
Survivors include his parents, Scott and Frances Bondegard of Green River; one sister, Katie Brianne Johnson of New York City, N.Y.; grandparents, Mabel and Bill Moser of Friend, Neb.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Francis McMahon.
Following cremation, a memorial service will conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.
Viva Sorbie
GREEN RIVER - Viva Sorbie, 86, of 1445 Uinta Drive, Green River, died on Friday, April 7, 2006. A longtime resident of Green River, Mrs. Sorbie had been in ill health for the past three years.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1919, in Grant, Idaho, the daughter of Nephi and Clesta Thornock Hansen.
Mrs. Sorbie attended school in Grant, Idaho and graduated from Grant High School in 1937.
She married
William Mercer Sorbie on April 20, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1991.
Mrs. Sorbie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Her interests included spending time with her family, crocheting, playing cards and games, gardening, and she was an avid bowler until she was 82 years old.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan Pandalis of Rock Springs, Kay Hansen and husband Leonard of Green River, and Arlene Kulhavy of Casper; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nephi and Clesta; her husband, William; two brothers; one sister; and two sons-in-law, Andy Pandalis and Warren Kulhavy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, Wyoming. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens cemetery, north of Rock Springs. Friends may call at the chapel Monday, April 10, 2006, from 5:30-7 p.m. and again Tuesday at the chapel one hour prior to services.
Cora Jean Gigi Goglio
STAR VALLEY - Cora Jean Gigi Goglio, 70, of Star Valley Ranch, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at her home after a four-year battle with cancer.
She was born June 23, 1935, to Vernon L. and Juanita M. Horton in Rock Springs. She was raised in Green River where she graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1953.
She married
Frank V. Pups Goglio on June 11, 1955. They lived and worked in Green River until 1990 when they retired to Star Valley Ranch.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and golfing.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Mystic Chapter No. 8 and a member of the Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Pups Goglio; two sons, Vern and wife Jan Goglio of Elko, Nev., and Kevin and wife Tina Goglio of Green River; one sister, Beverly Williams of Riverton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services.
Betty J. Findlay
MARBLETON Betty J. Findlay, 78, of 109 Chalfant St., Marbleton died Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Sage View CareCenter in Rock Springs. A resident of Marbleton for 35 yearsand former resident of Sublette and Kemmerer, Mrs. Findlaydied following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1927, in Sublette, the daughter ofOrville and Eva Ann Shinski Moon. Mrs. Findlay attendedschools in Kemmerer and graduated in 1944.
She married
Gorman R. Findlay in Frontier on Feb. 2, 1947.
Mrs. Findlay was a member of the Congregational Church, theOrder of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Gorman of Marbleton; twodaughters, Faye F. Costa of South Elgin, Ill. and Delores A.Findlay of Rock Springs; three brothers, Pat Moon of Casper,Robert Moon and wife Susan of Grand Junction, Colo. and KenMoon of Kemmerer; one sister, Eva Hunzie of Kemmerer; andseveral nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Eva;one sister; and one brother.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May3, 2006 at the Big Piney Fine Arts Center in Big Piney. TheRev. Richard Kalbert will conduct the services. Friends maycall at the center one hour prior to services.
Elsie Rose Yardas Dolenc
ROCK SPRINGS Elsie Rose Yardas Dolenc, 83, of 1239 9thSt., Rock Springs, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the SageView Care Center. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Mrs.Dolenc died following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 10, 1922 in Superior, the daughter ofVinko Yardas and Rose Susanj. Mrs. Yardas attended schoolsin Rock Springs.
She married
Max Jack Dolenc in Farmington, Utah, on May 16,1940. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1994.
Mrs. Dolenc was a member of the Holy Spirit CatholicCommunity and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America.
Survivors include one son, Max R. Dolenc of Las Vegas, Nev.;one daughter, Rosanne Anselmi of Scottsdale, Ariz.; threebrothers, Jimmy Yardas of Rock Springs, Charles Yardas andAlbert Yardas, both of Lander; one sister, Bernice Besso ofSun City West, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Gina Anselmi,Patrick Dolenc, Paige Laubacher and Lisa OBrien; twostep-grandchildren, Theresa Moss and Tami Togo; and sevengreat-grandchildren, Nicholas Dolenc, Tristen Dolenc, ZanderDolenc, Samantha Laubacher, Stephanie Laubacher, AnthonyLaubacher and Lindsay OBrien.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vinko and Rose;two sisters; and two brothers.

Jess M. Lucas
GREEN RIVER Jess M. Lucas, 102, of 921 Homestead, Green River, died on Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs. A resident of Green River for the past 15 years and former resident of DeSoto, Kan., and Salt Lake City, Utah, Lucas had been in ill health since January.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1903, in Colony, Kan., the son of Charles and Elizabeth A. Lucas.
Lucas attended school in Colony and graduated in 1928 from Colony High School.
He married
the former Gladys Crimson on May 20, 1935. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1998.
Lucas was employed by Hercules for many years and retired in 1968 as an acid plant supervisor.
He was a member of the Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge 36 for more than 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and church.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Lucas of Green River; three grandchildren, Susan Faye Evans of Golden, Colo., Jerry Mark Lucas of Green River and John David Lucas of Sheridan; eight great-grandchildren, April Goble and husband Jake of Lancaster, Calif., Mark Evans and wife Wendy of Humphrey, Ark., Leah OHarro of Rock Springs, Michael OHarro of Hill Air Force Base in Utah, Tera Lucas and Thorn Lucas of Green River, and Cody John Lucas and McKenzie Lynn Lucas, both of Sheridan; two great-great-grandchildren, Aubry Rose Goble and Ezekiel Goble; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth; one daughter, Phyllis Custer; one son, Jerald Lucas; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.
Stella Ann Retel
ROCK SPRINGS Stella Ann Retel, 90, of 1017 Clark St., Rock Springs, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Mrs. Retel died following a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Leadville, Colo., the daughter of Andy and Ursella Barnick.
Mrs. Retel attended school in Rock Springs and was a graduate of Rock Springs High School.
She married
Joe J. Retel in June 1936 in Rock Springs.
Her passions included bowling. She was the ladies city champion in 1962, 1964 and 1965. She was Wyoming state champion in 1952, 1956 and 1960. Mrs. Retel was also Temple Queens Classic Champion in Dayton, Ohio, in 1957. She was also an avid bridge player. She spent summers at a cabin on Tosi Creek in the Upper Green.
She is survived by her husband Joe of 70 years; one son, Joe Retel and wife Flo of Pinedale; two grandchildren, Joni Retel and John Retel; one great-granddaughter, Randi Arnoldi; one sister, Julia Granaas of Rock Springs; three nephews; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Ursella; and one sister, Mary Ferlic.
Her request was cremation and no service.

Joe J. Retel Jr.

ROCK SPRINGS - No services will be held at his request for Joe J. Retel Jr., 91, who died July 21, 2006, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Reliance, the son of Joe and Rose Jereb Retel.
He married
Stella Ann Barnick on June 7, 1936, and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2006.
He worked as a plumber for Tri State Lumber for many years and on June 27, 1952, he opened his own business, Sweetwater Plumbing and Heating, which is still in operation today.
In 1987, he was named Wyoming Wildlife Federation's conservationist of the year.
In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, wood working and fly fishing at his cabin in the Upper Green.
Survivors include one son, Joe A. Retel and wife of Pinedale; two grandchildren, Joni Retel and John Retel, both of Rock Springs; one great-granddaughter and one sister, Fannie Yenko of Rock Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Angela and one brother, Anthony.
