Bruno Paul Bonicelli

KEMMERER - Bruno Paul Bonicelli, 89, died on Thursday, May 27, 2004.

He was born on March 23, 1915, in Villa Minozzo in Regio Emilia, Italy, the son of Severino and Amabile Bonicelli. He moved with his family to Diamondville when he was 5-1/2 years old.

He was the president of his class and played football for the Kemmerer Rangers. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after high school. He worked various jobs to help support his family, such as ranch hand for Failoni Ranch and underground miner in various mines such as Brilliant, Gomer and Cumberland. He received his U.S. citizenship when he was 20 years old.

Bonicelli sold life insurance across the state of Wyoming for Equitable. He was Lincoln County Treasurer for 16 years while also running the Bonicelli Insurance Service. He worked for the Democratic party and spent many hours lobbying the Legislature.

He was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church of which he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bonicelli was the president of the South Lincoln Hospital Board in 1960 and was instrumental in getting a new hospital built. He was also the state president for the March of Dimes when the Salk polio vaccine was instituted.

He married Dahlia Bott on Aug. 26, 1939.

His interests were life, reading, fishing, hunting, cards and playing pool.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years; his brother, Nello Bonicelli; his son, Daryl Bonicelli; his two daughters, Rita and Mike Haws and Judy Bonicelli; six grandchildren, Danielle, Nicholas, Brandi, Travis, Daniel and Samuel; one great-grandchild, Alyah; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; and his daughter, Francinne Bihr.

A rosary was conducted Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Kemmerer cemetery.

Carroll Rahm

CASPER - Carroll Rahm, 81, of Casper, died May 29, 2004, in Casper.

He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Daniel to Gottfried and Viola Westfall Rahm. He was raised and educated in Pinedale, graduating from Pinedale High School. While in high school, he earned All-State honors in football and basketball.

Rahm attended Black Hills State College after being awarded a football scholarship. His education was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served in the 7th Army, 106th Infantry, known as the Golden Lions, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in 1946, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

Upon his return to the United States, he married his sweetheart he met before going overseas, Mary Ruth Walker, on June 30, 1946, at the Chapel of Transfiguration in Moose. Rahm then continued his education at the University of Wyoming, obtaining his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees.

Rahm began his career in education teaching math and coaching football and basketball at Laramie High School. He moved to Casper in 1952, becoming principal of Washington School. He later became principal of the old McKinley Elementary School. In 1972, he became director of rural education for Natrona County School District No. 1, retiring in 1985.

Rahm served on the Sandbar Urban Renewal Commission, Casper Recreation Board of Directors, and as a past president and director for CATC. Concerned that young adults in need receive help in funding their college educations, he helped found the Scottish Rite Foundation of Wyoming to provide scholarship assistance to students at the seven community colleges and University of Wyoming. He served the foundation as a board member and president, and was elected director emeritus upon his retirement as an active board member.

Rahm was a member of the American Legion, VFW, a 50-year Masonic member of Laramie Lodge No. 3, A.F. & A.M., an Inspector General Honorary 33rd member of the Wyoming Scottish Rite, the Knights Templar, and the Shrine. He was past president of the Casper Shrine Club and the Korein Oriental Band. He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church.

His other interests were fishing, hunting, woodworking, photography, jewelry making, lawn work and gardening, Army reunions for the 106th Infantry, and just generally seeing and having a pleasant conversation with people.

Rahm is survived by his wife of 58 years of Casper; his daughter, Mary Carroll Johnson and husband Neal of Casper; one brother; one sister; and his two long-haired Chihuahuas, Sarge and Sweetie Belle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Casper with the Rev. Royce W. Brown officiating. Committal with military and Masonic services will be at the Oregon Trail Veterans cemetery in Evansville.

Norman Merow

ROCK SPRINGS - Norman Merow, 51, of 1023 McKinley Ave., Rock Springs, died on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Merow had been in ill health for the past six years.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1953, in Lead, S.D., the son of Arthur and Louis Merow.

Merow attended schools in Rock Springs.

He married Terri Jensen on May 30, 1974, in Rock Springs and she preceded him in death on July 10, 1982.

Merow was employed by Bridger Coal Company as a serviceman for 17 years. Ill health forced his retirement in 1996.

His interests included fishing, hunting, gardening and staying at his home spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Clanci Hawks and husband Slade of Magna, Utah, and Carri Merow of Rock Springs; his mother, Lois Johnson and her husband Everett of Rock Springs; four sisters, Donna Merow of Sacramento, Calif., Sandy Markve of Estacada, Ore., Verna Postier of Coeur DAlene, Idaho, and Charlene Jackson and husband J.J. of Mesa, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Rylie Hawks of Magna, Utah; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.

Ralph Owren Randles Sr.

SEMINOLE, Okla. - Ralph Owren Randles Sr., 76, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Lake Murray in Ardmore.

He was born April 16, 1928, in Wewoka to Clyde J. and Bertha Irene Davis Randles.

Randles was raised in Seminole, Okla., and has lived in various states throughout the United States including Wyoming and Colorado while working in the oilfield.

He married Beverly Jane Ferguson on Aug. 8, 1948, in Seminole.

They returned to Seminole nine years ago.

In addition to working in gas exploration, Randles was also a field manager for the Williams Company and had done campground work at various state parks for the past 15 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a Mason, a Shriner and a former member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church in Seminole.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jane Randles of Seminole; one son, Ralph Randles Jr. of Rock Springs; one daughter, Robbie Lynn Brown of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; Clyde and Sharon McCaslin of Brigham City, Utah; four grandchildren, Raymond de Leur, Christopher Randles, Rachael McDonald and Rebecca Brady; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Randles; one son, John Randles; one sister, Lorene Roberts; and one grandchild, John Robert de Leur.

Memorial services were Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Okla., with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Robert Laurence Larson

ROCK SPRINGS - Robert Laurence Larson, 86, of 1005 Wyoming St., Rock Springs, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Sage View Care Center where he had been a resident for the past one month. He was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs.

Larson was born on Oct. 14, 1917, in Rock Springs, the son of the late Louis and Lillie Matson Larson.

He attended schools in Rock Springs and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1936. Larson studied engineering at the University of Wyoming until he was drafted for World War II.

He married Josephine Donahue on June 28, 1945, in Horseheads, N.Y. They lived in Rock Springs, where they had three children.

Larson was a member of the American Legion Archie Hay Post No. 24, and was co-founder of the Sweetwater Chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society in 1965.

He served as the official Rock Springs weather observer for the U.S. Department of Commerce Weather Bureau for more than 20 years.

Larson was employed as a carpenter and later at the U.S. Postal Service and retired in June of 1978.

His interests included fishing, rock hunting, hunting, and spending time with his family at their cabin near South Pass.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Josephine Larson; two sons, Terry Larson and wife Diane of Casper, and Ronald Larson and wife Mary Lu of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Julie Farr and husband Les of Rock Springs; five grandchildren, Todd Larson of Laramie, Chess Larson and wife Jill of San Diego, Calif., Chris Larson and wife Lisa of San Diego, Erin Larson of Boston, and Elise Farr of Rock Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.

Shirley Beth Larson

ROCK SPRINGS - Shirley Beth Larson, 82, of 801 Maple St., Rock Springs, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Iowa, Mrs. Larson had been in ill health for the past several months.

She was born on Aug. 26, 1921, in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of the late Forrest and Sadie Andrews Varley.

Mrs. Larson attended schools in Shenandoah and was a graduate of the high school there. She married Richard Tate Larson on May 17, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1986.

Mrs. Larson had been employed at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County for many years and retired in 1992.

Her interests included gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, John Larson and wife Jacqueline, Stephen Larson and wife Valerie, all of Rock Springs, and Richard Larson II and wife Carolyn of Essex, Iowa; one brother, John Varley of Florida; one sister, Alice Sanders of Sidney; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister, two nephews, one niece and one great-niece.

Memorial graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at the American Legion Section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Travis W. Posselt

ROCK SPRINGS - Travis W. Posselt, 30, of 902 Sixth St. No. B, Rock Springs, died on Friday, May 28, 2004. He was a longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Oregon.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1973, in Milwaukie, Ore., the son of Therese T.J. Gallagher.

Posselt attended schools in Lake Oswego, Ore., and Rock Springs.

His interests were playing guitar, music, spending time with his children, his family and touching the earth.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Therese T.J. Gallagher and Brian of Rock Springs; one son, London Bugsy Posselt of Rock Springs; one daughter, Taylor Dolly Posselt of Rock Springs; his companion, Amber Hemker of Rock Springs; one brother, Nathan Johnson and wife Amanda of Rock Springs; maternal grandmother, Virginia Posselt of West Linn, Ore.; one uncle, Ernest Posselt of Green River; two aunts, Kathy Teal of Bend, Ore., and Lisa Howe and husband Dan of West Linn, Ore.; nephews, Michael Johnson and Vincent Johnson, both of Rock Springs; cousins, Jeff Howe, Kate Howe, Justin Howe and Ashley Howe, and Jason Teal and Molly Teal; and special friends, Terrence Davis, David Tolman, Jason Shalata, Joshua Hemker and Tiffany Mitchelson.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ralph E. Posselt.

Cremation will take place.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rock Springs Ward, 2055 Edgar St. in Rock Springs at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2004. His friends are welcome to attend in reverence. Following the service there will also be an open memorial at Bunning Park in Rock Springs.

Ruth Ann Hermansen

GREEN RIVER - Ruth Ann Hermansen, 86, of 437 N. First E., Green River, died on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River.

A lifelong resident of Green River, Mrs. Hermansen had been in ill health for the past several years.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1918, in Green River, the daughter of William Mortimer and Esther Crofts.

Mrs. Hermansen attended schools in Green River and was a 1936 Green River High School graduate.

She married Alton Hermansen in Green River on Sept. 10, 1939. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2004.

Mrs. Hermansen was employed as a secretary for the Green River School district for many years.

Her interests included spending time with her family and friends, traveling, playing cards and doing community volunteer work. She played the organ and piano for countless weddings, funerals and church services. Mrs. Hermansen was a lifetime member of the Union Congregational Church and the organist for the Union Congregational Church for 46 years.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and was worthy matron in 1946. Mrs. Hermansen was a P.E.O. past president, member of T.N.T. Traveling Group, Merry 8 Pinochle Club and We Moderns Bridge Club.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Hermansen and Bridget Mackey, both of Pinedale; one daughter, Janet Adams and husband John of Lawrence, Kan.; two sisters, Billee Skinner of Salt Lake City and Florence Walker of Harrisburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Josie Hermansen of River-ton, Ryan Adams and Jennifer Myers, both of Lawrence, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alton Hermansen; two sisters, Evelyn Carle and Elna Horton; and one brother, Harold Mortimer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at the Union Congregational Church, 350 Mansface, Green River. The Rev. Lisa Hart will conduct the services.

Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, and again Friday morning at the church one hour prior to services.

JoAnn (Horgan) Tennant

CARSON, Calif. - JoAnn (Horgan) Tennant, 77, died Nov. 18, 2005.

She was born in Huntington, Ark., on Feb. 21, 1928, to Mabel and William Horgan. Her father was killed in a mining accident when she was very young. Her mother remarried and she and her brother, Preston were raised with their brother Robert by John Dowdy. All are former residents of Rock Springs.

She lived in Rock Springs for 15 years graduating from Rock Springs High School in 1946. She married Vernon Tennant in July of that year and they had their son in March of 1949. The family moved to California in 1956 and to the delight of all, added a daughter to their family in 1962.

Mrs. Tennant had been a resident of Carson, Calif., since 1957.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; son, Marvin; daughter, Lana (Tennant) Paolucci; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her brother, Robert and sister-in-law Pat Dowdy; sister-in-law, Naoma Hardin; and many nieces and nephews.

Caroline E. Walters Lober

EAGLE POINT, Ore. - Caroline E. Walters Lober, 48, of Eagle Point, Ore., died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore.

A resident of the Medford area for the past 11 years, Mrs. Lober died following a lengthy illness.

She was born May 12, 1957, in Rock Springs, the daughter of Charles and Dolores Menghini Walters, former Rock Springs residents, and now living in Grants Pass, Ore.

She attended Roosevelt Elementary School in Rock Springs and was a 1975 graduate of San Juan High School in Citrus Heights, Calif.

Mrs. Lober married Patrick Murphy in Citrus Heights, Calif., on Aug. 23, 1975. They were later divorced. She married Don Lober Jr. in Gold Hill, Ore., on June 3, 2002. They were later divorced.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, household pets and the view from her hilltop home.

She is survived by her parents; a brother, Bill Walters and wife Cassandra of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Rosalie Foot and husband Tom of Medford, Ore.; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt and uncle.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Menghini and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Walters.

Cremation has taken place.

A private family service was conducted.

Katy Hinckley

LARAMIE - Katy Hinckley, 50, died peacefully at home in the early morning of Dec. 19, 2005.

She was born in Powell on Nov. 18, 1955, and attended Powell schools through high school graduation and one year at Northwest College. Returning to college after starting a family, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism (Phi Beta Kappa) and a master of arts degree in communications from the University of Wyoming.

During her time as graphics arts manager and then director of marketing and creative design at the Cheyenne Tribune-Eagle, her talent for art and design won awards from the Wyoming Press Association, the Mountain Ad Managers and an International Award in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1999, she accepted a position as instructor in the communications department at the University of Wyoming, teaching public speaking and advertising, and developing and managing the communications lab.

She was diagnosed with ALS in January of 2002, but continued teaching as long as her health permitted. Despite her illness, she continued painting and donating graphic design to community projects.

Her painting Have Wheels Will Travel the Harley-Davidson on which she and her husband continued to tour the West with her portable wheelchair strapped on the back won a spot in the permanent display at the Muscular Dystrophy Association art museum in Tucson, Ariz., and was included in the 2005 MDA calendar.

Mrs. Hinckley was also featured on the 2004 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for her art work and her spirit in the face of her difficulties, and was recognized with a 2004 Personal Achieve-ment Award by the MDA.

She cherished her time spent with her two sons, Chris Johnson (U.S. Army) and Brian Johnson (U.S. Marine Corps), and her six siblings and their families and her extended step-family.

She is survived by her husband, Pete Hegg of Laramie; her sons Chris and Brian; her mother, Ann Hinckley of Powell; three sisters, Martha Moewes of Powell, Molly Kinsey and Morgan Cromer, both of Sheridan; three brothers, Jack of Kennewick, Wash., Bern of Laramie and Danny of San Leandro, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, John T. Hinckley.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Laramie LDS Church, 3311 Hayford, at noon on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.
