Eva Pearl Curtis Coonrod - 08/17/04
Graveside funeral services for Eva Pearl Coonrod, 94, of Buffalo, were at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, Kan., with the Rev. Darrell Grimm officiating.
She died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.
Mrs. Coonrod was born Feb. 9, 1910, in Dewey County, Okla., to Charles and Flora Curtis. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Collinsville High School in 1927. After high school she went to work as a telephone operator.
On June 9, 1934, she married Woodrow Wilson Coonrod at her parents' home in Anderson, Mo. They lived in Tulsa, Okla., where she continued to work as a telephone operator.
The couple moved to Great Bend in the 1930s and raised their family. They bought property near Buena Vista, Colo., on Chalk Creek and spent many summer months there tearing down old cabins and building a retirement cabin.
Mr. Coonrod died at the cabin in June 1970 and Mrs. Coonrod continued living in Great Bend until 1971 when she moved to the cabin full time. She worked as the post mistress, pumped gas and managed a little store in Nathrop, Colo., for several years before retiring.
In 1981, she moved to Sheridan to live near her daughter and family. Then, in 1986, she moved to Gillette to be near her granddaughter and family and helped take care of her grandsons. She lived in Gillette until she became a resident of Amie Holt Care Center in 2002.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and served as a deaconess and adult Sunday School teacher at the Baker Avenue Baptist Church for many years. She was a charter member and first president of the League of Women Voters in Great Bend, a member of the Menningers Bible Study Group in Great Bend, and she was former president of the Great Bend Council of Church Women United.
She loved fly fishing and taught all of her children and grandchildren how to do it. She loved traveling, baking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Charles Ralph Coonrod of Bethel, Mo.; one daughter, Margaret Immenschuh of Buffalo; one sister, Mary Alice Carson, of Marionville, Mo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; and two sisters.

Alton Lee Soule - 08/19/04
Funeral services for Alton Lee Soule, 86, the brother of a Gillette woman, were at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fir Lane Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Spanaway, Wash.
Burial was Monday in the Tacoma National Cemetery in Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Soule died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Tacoma.
He was born Feb. 5, 1918, to Earl A. Soule and Josephine Wagner Soule in Minco, Okla.
On June 4, 1968, he married Gloria Newman.
Mr. Soule is survived by his wife of Tacoma; four stepchildren; one brother; one sister, Louise Hickey of Gillette; numerous grandchildren of Gillette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters.
Eddie Pacot - 08/18/04
Funeral services for Eddie Pacot, 98, were Saturday at Green's Bellevue Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash.
Mr. Pacot died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Marysville, Wash., of natural causes.
He was born in Billings, Mont., April 7, 1906. He started a long career in banking in Gillette in 1926. In 1944, he moved to Washington, and retired from the National Bank of Commerce in 1972.
He was a HAM radio operator-W7AAH, a member of the "Magic Ring," and a member of the Seattle Banjo Club. He was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He was known to many as "Mr. Ed, the Balloon Man" as he entertained the young and old with his balloon animals and his magic tricks. He loved music and dancing.
Mr. Pacot is survived by three sisters, Beth McGee, Velma Harlow and Helen Spielman, all of Wyoming; two daughters, Jeanne White of Woodinville, Wash., and Audrey Aronica of Lake Stevens, Wash.; four grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.
Memorials can be sent to the donor's favorite charity.
Nadine Goza - 08/19/04
Funeral services for Nadine Goza, 86, of Gillette will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Morgan of the Church of Nazarene officiating.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral home.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery in Casper.
Mrs. Goza was died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home after a long-term illness.
She was born Sept. 19, 1917, to Oliver H. and Blanche V. (Boman) Houchen in Unity, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised by her paternal grandparents after the death of her mother in 1929. On Dec. 20, 1937, she married "Mutt" Goza in Halsted, Kan.
She owned and operated Pixie Pet Shop from 1970 to 1985 and 4 Paws Grooming from 1985 until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Goza lived in Gillette for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Ben Goza of Tulsa, Okla., and Jim Goza of Evansville; one daughter, Jerri McGlothlin of Gillette; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Houchen of McPherson, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Pauline and Dorothy Houchen; and one granddaughter, Nicki McGlothlin.
A memorial has been established in Mrs. Goza's name to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or to Hospice of Campbell County Memorial Hospital of Gillette.

William 'Sam' Sampson - 08/20/04
Graveside services for William Donald "Sam" Sampson, 54, of Upton will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 42.
Mr. Sampson died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of liver failure.
He was born March 10, 1950, to Donald Roy and Evelyn Rose (Cote) Sampson in Springfield, Mass. As a child, he moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where he completed his education.
Upon completion of his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army, serving two tours of Vietnam. He was in the Army for eight years and was disabled upon being honorably discharged in 1976. He moved to Yakima, Wash., in 1980.
He moved to Sheridan in 1993 and was married on April 8, 1995.
In 2002, he moved to Upton to be closer to his family.
Mr. Sampson stayed busy as a member of dart ball and bowling leagues. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Club.
He enjoyed fishing and he liked to cook big family meals.
Mr. Sampson is survived by his mother; his wife, Pam, of nine years; four sons, Billie Sampson, Brian Sampson, and Kenny Sampson, all of Yakima and Kevin Dennis of Sheridan; three daughters, Hazel Ketchum and Tammy Ellenberger, both of Yakima and Deborah McElhiney of Gillette; three brothers, Jeff Sampson and Joe Sampson, both of Yakima and Steve Sampson of Edgewater, Fla.; two sisters, Lois Senk of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Linda Forester of Tampa, Fla.; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rose Cote; his father; and one brother, Gregory Sampson.
