Former Sheridan County resident Betty Filbert Cooper, 82, of Gillette died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in Pioneer Manor. Viewing hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Betty Ritter

Betty Ritter, 74, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Viewing will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Cremation will follow, and a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor John Jackson officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo.

Ken `Bennie' Haratyk

Ken “Bennie” Haratyk, 46, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home

DuWayne Kermit Livengood

DuWayne Kermit “Cowboy” Livengood, 63, of Sheridan died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Sheridan Manor of cancer. Memorial services were Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Services also were Thursday in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, Mont. Mr. Livengood was born March 31, 1941, in Miles City, Mont., to Kermit and Marian (Good) Livengood. He attended Plevna (Mont.) Grade School and dropped out of Plevna High School his senior year. He later completed a tooling leather class in Helena, Mont. He married Marjorie Ann Wiseman June 2, 1961, in Ekalaka, Mont. They later were divorced. He married Joyce Elgin in Miles City. They divorced later. Mr. Livengood's passion was horses. He enjoyed the cowboy life and worked for various ranches and farms. He was employed for a time at O&M Elevator in Baker. Survivors include two sons, Keneon of Los Angeles and Kadean of Vermont; a daughter, Angie Simac of Huntley, Mont.; two brothers, Dwight of Miles City and Ross of Billings; and a sister, Bonita Phillips of Lebanon, Ore. Aileen Kuzara

BUFFALO — Former Buffalo resident Aileen Kuzara, 80, of San Jose, Calif., died Dec. 10, 2003, at her residence. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Sept. 11 in Willow Grove cemetery with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home.

Helen Eileen Brus

BUFFALO — Helen Eileen Brus, 77, of Buffalo died Friday morning, Sept. 3, 2004, at her residence. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Orwig officiating. Additional services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church in Casper with the Rev. Frank Kinney officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Casper. Memorials may be made to Johnson County Home Health in care of the Adams Funeral Home.

Bert J. Miller

Bert J. Miller, 81, of Hardin, Mont., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home. He was stepfather of Steven Bond of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Bullis Mortuary Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Burial with military honors will follow in Hardin Fairview cemetery. Mr. Miller was born March 13, 1923, in Hardin to Charles and Jessie Porter Miller. He grew up and attended schools in Hardin and was a 1941 graduate of Hardin High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged. He married Ruth Grossman Feb. 18, 1947, in Hardin. Mrs. Miller died in 1980. Mr. Miller married Jean Bond Nov. 8, 1980, in Hardin. He operated the Conoco Bulk plant for Campbell Farming Corp. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed gardening, walking and watching television. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Taylor, and two brothers, Art and Robert Ebeling. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carol Garcia of Nevada, Diane Reichenberg of Lincoln, Mont., and Marsha Ables of California; a son, Bert Jr. of Hardin; another stepson, John Bond of Billings; a sister, Louise Boyington of Idaho; two half sisters, Maddarine Bowers and Lee Joyce Denny, both of Hardin; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Big Horn Hospital Foundation, Hardin, MT 59034.

Ora Maurer, 81, of Sheridan died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

Bette Marie Borgan

Bette Marie Borgan, 80, of Billings died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Billings Deaconess Hospital. She was mother of Betty Ann (Bez) Malli of Arvada. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Bullis Mortuary Funeral Chapel in Hardin, Mont. Burial will be in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Borgan was born May 23, 1924, in Butte, Mont., to Ferdinand and Myrtle Melbraatin Henry. She grew up and attended schools in Butte and graduated from Butte Senior High School. She worked at the Hennessey Department Store in Butte before marrying Horst F. Burgman Sept. 4, 1942, in Portland, Ore. The couple later divorced. She married David Borgan Dec. 15,1962, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They made their home in Hardin. Mr. Borgan died in 1984. Mrs. Borgan worked for Valley Implement Co. and was later a legal secretary for Legal Services of Montana. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Order of Eastern Star Jasmine Chapter. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitch, creating afghans, reading and camping and fishing with Mr. Borgan. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimmie Lou Burgman. Survivors include a son, Milt Burgman of Billings; another daughter, Marta Burgman of Hardin; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Glen `Buddy' Cline

Glen “Buddy” Cline, 84, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank, P.O. Box 6026, Aurora, CO 80045.

Former Sheridan resident Minnie “Arlene” Struble, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Enid, Okla. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

Fred Wertz

Fred Wertz, 64, of Buffalo died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visiting hours will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Health Care Center Respiratory Care Department in care of the funeral home.

R. Maxine Torbert

R. Maxine Torbert, 87, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Torbert was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Letcher, S.D., to Irl and Evelyn (Knutson) Rearick. She grew up and graduated from high school in Letcher and graduated with honors from Yankton College. She moved to Sheridan around 1940. She married Hollis C. Torbert in 1941 in Hardin, Mont. She taught high school for 37 years in Dayton, Ranchester, Big Horn and Sheridan. She was named Wyoming Teacher of the Year in 1974. She was a member of the Wyoming Education Association board and received the WEA's Gold Key award in 1984. She was president of the Wyoming Foreign Language Teachers' Association and served on the Professional Standards Board of the state Department of Education. Mrs. Torbert's foreign language program at Sheridan High School was recognized in a book published by the U.S. Department of Education and the American Council of Foreign Languages. She was a volunteer at the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Senior Citizens Council board of directors for seven years. She wrote articles for the “Silver Threads” column in The Sheridan Press and was a member of Wyoming's Silver-Haired Legislature in 1986 and 1988. She also was a volunteer for AARP, a representative on the Division of Aging Advisory Council, a Wyoming delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and a consumer member of the Board of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960 and a son, Terry. Survivors include two sons, Steve of Sheridan and Max of Casper; a brother, Raymond Rearick of Rapid City; a sister, Marcella Jacobus of Seattle; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan County Experiment in International Living Scholarship Fund in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Curtis W. Smith

Curtis W. Smith, 69, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Sheridan to George and Elizabeth (Barnes) Smith. He married Jeanetta Arbogast. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Bo. Survivors include five sons, Allen of Sheridan, Curtis, Edwin and Mike, all of Phoenix, and Evan of Wiggins, Colo.; four brothers, George of Gillette, Karl of Pensacola, Fla., Gary of San Diego, and David of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

Angela A. Hafner

Angela Ann Hafner, 82, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Bonners Ferry after a long bout with cancer. She was mother of Janice Mates of Big Horn. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Monday and Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, S.D. Burial will be in Black Hills National cemetery, Sturgis. Born in Tilford, S.D., to Peter M. and Henrietta (Richards) Weiers, Mrs. Hafner grew up in Sturgis and attended St. Martin's Academy. She sang and tap-danced at many functions during her school years. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening and made many clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her first husband, Robert Hyde, and a grandson, Randy J. Romeo, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Morris Hafner; three additional daughters, Marge Johnston, Spearfish, S.D., Donna Jerome, Houston and Mexico, and Anita McDonald, Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Robert Van Loan, Gordonville, Texas; 31 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Helen Elizabeth Pauline Wallitch

Helen Elizabeth Pauline “Beth” Wallitch, 79, of Big Horn died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Funeral Liturgy will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Ogg as celebrant. Cremation will follow the service. Mrs. Wallitch was born July 28, 1925, in Dietz to John and Mary Ann (Feher) Olah. She grew up and attended schools in Thermopolis and graduated from Thermopolis High School. She worked for the government in Walla Walla, Wash., before moving to Salt Lake City, where she married Wayne McDonald. He preceded her in death. She married James T. Wadlow in Salt Lake City. She later married Charlie Wallitch in Sheridan; he also preceded her in death. She belonged to the Catholic Church and attended services at Our Lady of the Pines in Story and Holy Name Catholic Church. She was a former resident of Story and a member of the Story Woman's Club, the Story Garden Club and Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, playing bingo, sports — especially football — and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a son, John Wadlow of Salt Lake City; four daughters, Roseanne Gentry of Big Horn, Annette Rossborough and Joyce Soto, both of Salt Lake City, and Debbie Wadlow of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Holy Name School, Holy Name Church, Our Lady of the Pines or the Story Woman's Club in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Albino Eli `Bino' Mancini

Albino Eli `Bino' Mancini, 83, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at his residence. Rosary and visiting will be 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Elks cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Mancini was born March 2, 1921, in Kleenburn to Domenico and Pasqua Mancini. He was a lifelong Sheridan-area resident except for three years of military service during World War II. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Darlene Smith on June 11, 1949. They owned and operated Bino's Grocery, which recently celebrated 50 years in business. Mr. Mancini enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, baseball, softball and watching sports. He coached while he was in the service. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Sheridan Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Emily Bentzen of Tucson, Ariz., Cynthia Fall of Bakersfield, Calif., Rebecca Reimers of Banner, Melissa Jacobson of Johnston, Iowa, and Pamela Nimrick of Grapevine, Texas; two sisters, Mary Pine and Nora Gazdik, both of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Holy Name School Fund, Sheridan Recreation Little League or Parkinson's Foundation in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Helen L. Ilsley

Helen L. Ilsley, 87, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Private memorial services will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Ilsley was born March 21, 1917, in Ottawa, Kan., to Clarence M. and Beryl B. Lewis. She graduated from high school in Cheyenne and was a 1936 graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She married John P. Ilsley Dec. 9, 1939, in Kimball, Neb. She was a member of Gentian Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Sahida Temple of Daughters of the Nile, PEO Chapter AB and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Marion and Leonard Lewis. Survivors include a son, Harry E. of Sheridan; two daughters, Vicki K. Curren of Denver and Evelyn I. Ebzery of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of Ada Kirven, P.O. Box 391, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Richard Pike

Richard Pike, 73, of Shoshoni died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

Carolyn Fowler

Carolyn Fowler, 76, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Fowler was born March 18, 1928, in Steelton, Pa., to Frederick and Anna Byrod. She attended Millersville University and received a master's degree from Columbia University and a professional diploma from the University of Wyoming. She was an early supporter of civil rights and worked with minority children in disadvantaged areas. She married David Fowler in 1969 and came to the family ranch. She was a member of the Piney Women's Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by Mr. Fowler in 1998. Survivors include a son, Christopher, of Tempe, Ariz. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Frank J. Seibert

Former Ranchester resident Frank J. Seibert, 73, of Billings died Sept. 28, 2004, after an extended illness. A memorial service is 2 p.m. today in the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings following private family burial in Mount View cemetery in Columbus, Mont. Mr. Seibert was born June 15, 1931, in Crvenka, Yugoslavia, to Franz and Eva Seibert and lived in Europe until the age of 20. He and his family evacuated ahead of the World War II front and lived in camps in Eisenerz and Trofaich, Austria for 6 years. His family came to Billings in 1951, sponsored by Church World Service and the First Congregational Church in Billings. He met his wife shortly after arriving in Billings. He was former owner of Ranchester Packing and later owned the Stillwater Packing Company in Columbus. He enjoyed the outdoors and fished and hunted in his younger years. He enjoyed being with his animals, especially his dog Peaches. He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl. Survivors include his wife, Blondina; four sons, Frank of Denver, Lucky and David, both of Columbus, and Nick of Kirkland, Wash.; his mother and one brother, Herb, both of Billings; a sister, Friede Arneson of Helena, Mont.; a half-brother, Werner of Oregon City, Ore.; a half-sister Gisela Maehl of Billings; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107.

Roberta Poll

Roberta Poll, 79, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident near Meeker, Colo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Ray Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic No. 8 Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Shrine Children's Travel Fund in care of Kalif Temple, P.O. Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801.
