Cody Lee Holt, 15, of Sheridan died Friday, July 4, 2003, in an automobile accident near Billings. Viewing will be 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Holt was born April 12, 1988, in Sheridan to Ron L. Holt and Heidi Rene Lawrence. He moved with his mother to Paradise, Calif., when he was 4 years old. They returned to Sheridan three years ago. He was attending Central Middle School at the time of his death. He enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, floating Goose Creek, music, video games and being with his friends. Survivors include his father of Sheridan and Gillette; his mother of Sheridan; an older brother, Chuck Gilmore of Sheridan; two sisters, Kira Lawrence and Amanda Gilmore, both of Sheridan; and grandparents Bill and Ginger Lawrence. Eugene S. Popp
DAYTON — Eugene S. Popp, 43, of Dayton died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in Billings of complications from lymphoma, his family said. A memorial service is pending with family and close friends. Mr. Popp was born June 7, 1960. He enjoyed camping and fishing in Dayton. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn. Survivors include his mother, Georgia of Dayton; two sons, Dale and Clayton, both of Dayton; two brothers, Robert and Dennis, both of Gillette; and two sisters, Debra of Sheridan and Annette Canfield of Gillette.

Gerald Woodrow Slater, 88, of Sheridan died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Ina M. Lagae
Former Sheridan resident Ina M. Crafton Lagae, 81, of Denver died Monday, June 30, 2003, after a long illness. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. July 15 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Castle Rock, Colo. Mrs. Lagae was born Aug. 15, 1921, in St. Louis to Goldie and Will Crafton. She grew up in Sheridan, where she married
James Y. Lagae Dec. 6, 1940. They ranched in Wyoming and New Mexico before moving to Douglas County, Colo., in 1947. Mrs. Lagae enjoyed going to cattle auctions, raising orchids, gardening, traveling and reading. She was the oldest living original member of the Douglas County Book Club and was active in the gardening club. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Dorothy Williamson and Louise Fleming. Survivors include three daughters, Danielle Beck of Longmont, Colo., Nancy King of Castle Rock and Suzanne Herbruck of Boulder, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy E. “Dolly” Arzy, 70, of Sheridan died Friday, July 4, 2003, at her residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Mrs. Arzy was born March 4, 1933, in Otis, Colo., to Frank and Bertha (Focht) Townsend. She married
George Arzy Feb. 6, 1965, in Sheridan. She enjoyed collecting Indian art. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Pearl, Grace, Elizabeth, Ruth and Edith; two brothers, Melvin and Levi; and an infant daughter, Leora Kraft. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; two sons, Larry Townsend and Robert Kraft, both of Sheridan; three daughters, Linda O'Toole of California and Donna Taylor and Brenda Mines, both of Sheridan; and seven grandchildren.
Leona Holbert
LANDER — Former Sheridan resident Leona Lee McLain Irion Holbert, 85, of Lander died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, in Lander Valley Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Hudson's Funeral Home of Lander. Mrs. McLain was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Mulvane, Kan., to Charles Rae McLain and Ora Lee (Newton) McLain. The family moved to Broadus, Mont., when she was 2 years old and homesteaded on the Powder River. She married
Stanley “Tim” Irion in 1938; they later divorced. She moved to Sheridan in 1954. She married
Charles “Chuck” Holbert in 1956. They lived in Sheridan until 1988. They moved to Lander to be with Mrs. McLain's daughter and her family. Mrs. McLain enjoyed flowers, birds and being with her family. She was preceded in death by Mr. McLain, two brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Koltiska of Lander; a sister Willene “Auntie” Shenk of Billings; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Eunice Falt
Eunice L. Falt, 74, of Sheridan died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her residence. Viewing and visitation will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on Big Horn highway. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Falt was born Feb. 16, 1929, in Farnhurst, Del., to Elm Tynne Blomquist. She grew up in Richardson Park, Del., and in Washington, D.C., where she graduated from high school. She married
Frank J. Falt of Plainfield, Conn., March 1, 1952. They farmed in Connecticut until Mr. Falt died in 1985. Mrs. Falt moved to Sheridan in 1985 and worked for the Job Service of Wyoming. She was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Plainfield and in Sheridan. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and visiting with friends. Survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins. She requested that no flowers be sent.
Landen Joseph Poll
Landen Joseph Poll, 19 days old, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Friday, June 20, 2003, at The Children's Hospital in Denver. Graveside services were June 23 at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins with Bishop Jeff Thomas of the Latter-day Saints Timberline Ward officiating. He was born June 1, 2003, in Fort Collins to Joseph John Poll III, formerly of Sheridan, and Kelsey Marie Odle Poll. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his parents; and grandparents David L. Poll of Sheridan, Jean Puzuhanich Poll of Loveland, Colo., and Eddy and Georgia Odle of Kingman, Ariz. Memorials may be made to The Children's Hospital in care of Lynn Cavaliero, R.N., 1056 E. 19th Ave., B535, Denver, CO 80218. The funds are to be directed to John P. Kinsella, M.D., for the research of persistent pulmonary hypertension and respiratory distress syndrome.

Dorothy Vivian DeWitt Richards, 94, of Sheridan died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Griswold (Iowa) cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home of Griswold is handling arrangements there. Local arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Richards was born Oct. 19, 1908, in Griswold to Fred Baker and Stella Blanche (Milner) DeWitt. She was a 1926 graduate of Griswold High School and attended Simpson College for two years. She taught school in Nebraska. She married
Kenneth Richards. She joined the Women's Army Corps in 1944 and was stationed in California as a medical technician. She received the American Campaign Medal. She was honorably discharged and remained in California, working for Douglas Aircraft Co. She was a member of Griswold United Methodist Church and of Chapter GL, PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include her sister, Maurine J. Olson of Worland, and two nephews.

Eunice L. Falt, 74, of Sheridan died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her residence. Viewing and visitation will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on the Big Horn highway. BROADUS, Mont. — Patricia Kay (Gemmell) Stuver, 45, of Broadus died Saturday, June 28, 2003, of injuries from an automobile accident. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today in the Chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Powder River Manor. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Powder River Manor.

Dennis Wayne Seaton, 53, of Sheridan died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home.
Frank A. Boyko
Frank A. Boyko, 89, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Mr. Boyko was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Kooi to Frank and Mary (Wayla) Boyko. He worked many years on power lines in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 322 and Holy Name Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading and playing solitaire. He was preceded in death by two wives, Clara and Birdie; five sisters, Agnes Neff, Anna Haler, Ida Nussbacher, Francis Grimshaw and Eva Boyko; and two brothers, John and George. Survivors include a daughter, Clara Boyko of Sheridan; a brother, Joe of Worland; a sister, Lois Etchechoury of Sheridan; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Matthew David Carter
Sheridan native Matthew David Carter, 22, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Fort Collins, Colo. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Timberline Church in Fort Collins. Arrangements are with Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Mr. Carter was born Feb. 19, 1981, in Sheridan to John L. and Nicki Carter. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1993, and he was a 1999 graduate of Poudre High School as an International Baccalaureate Scholar. He was a student in Front Range Community College and Colorado State University at the time of his death. He planned a career in business and was a charter member of Gamma Beta Phi Society, an honorary business scholastic society at CSU. He enjoyed traveling, and his travels ranged from Washington, D.C., to Belize and Hawaii. He studied rain forest ecology and marine biology in Belize. He also enjoyed snowboarding, golf and scuba diving and was a member of Diver's Alert Network. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron; and by grandparents Homer F. Ketcham, John R. Carter and Joy Carter. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Noah; a sister, Laura; a grandmother, Margaret Ketcham of Sheridan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kenneth Bates
CLEARMONT — Former Clearmont resident Kenneth Anthony Bates, 84, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Mr. Bates was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Clearmont to Claude and Rosalee Bates. He grew up and was educated in Clearmont and was a 1936 graduate of Clearmont High School. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He married
Shirley Rasmussen March 27, 1950, on the family ranch near Clearmont. They remained on the ranch until 1990, when they moved into Clearmont. Mrs. Bates died in January 1995. Mr. Bates moved to the Veterans Home of Wyoming in Buffalo in 1999. He had been at Westview four days at the time of his death. He loved ranching, fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He also made jewelry. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Fritz of Clearmont and Ole of Slana, Alaska; a brother, Lyle of California; a sister, Virginia Kraen of Casper; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Dorothy H. Crump
Dorothy H. Crump, 76, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Crump was born March 22, 1927, in Acme to Frank and Pauline (Leis) Sperl. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945 and attended college in Thermopolis to become a nurse. She returned to Sheridan, where she married
Ray L. Crump in May 1949. The couple moved to Casper, then California. Mrs. Crump retired to Sheridan in the mid-1980s. She enjoyed talking to her family on the phone and listening to music. She was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include two sons, Gregory A. of Corona, Calif., and Tom J. of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Sandra West of Temcula, Calif., and Kathy Punt of Lodi, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Shirley T. Sampson
Shirley T. Sampson, 63, of Sheridan died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Private family services were at Kane Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Sampson was born in Sheridan Sept. 22, 1940, to Darlene Fern (McKenzie) and Roy Lewis Griffin. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She married
Franklin Wayne “Shorty” Sampson Sept. 30, 1958, in Custer, S.D. She worked at the Sheridan VA Medical Center for 25 years as a certified nursing assistant on the Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit and the Psychiatric Unit. She enjoyed fishing, camping and travel. After Mr. Sampson's death, she met Steve Noel, and they attended auctions and yard sales. Mrs. Sampson made crafts, liked antique cars and was a member of the Sheridan KARZ Club. Survivors include her companion, Mr. Noel, of Sheridan; a daughter, Rita, of Sheridan; three sisters, Billie Garriffa and Pauline Griffin, both of Sheridan, and Aileen Thulesen of Billings; and numerous nieces and a nephew. BUFFALO — Former Buffalo resident Yvonne Hall, 86, of Midland, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in Odessa, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Dr. Karen Stork-Wilson officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. Brittany Rader, 17, of Gillette died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at her home. Cause of death has not been confirmed, according to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Miss Rader was a 2003 graduate of Sheridan High School. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery in Gillette. Miss Rader was born June 6, 1986, in Gillette to Paula (Badger) and Travis Rader. She grew up in Gillette and returned there to live with her mother after graduating from high school. Survivors include her father, of Gillette; her mother and stepfather, Paula and John Villa of Gillette; two brothers, Esequiel Villa and Max Rader, both of Gillette; three sisters, Aurora Badger and Deni Evans, both of Gillette, and Lauren Hoffmeyer of Orlando, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Louetta Rader of Chillicothe, Mo.; and maternal grandparents, Jerry Badger of Valmy, Nev., and Vivian Balgheim of Gillette. BUFFALO — William Petersen, 84, of Buffalo died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doris Dollison
Doris Mary Rogers Dollison, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in Newcastle. She was mother of Fred Dollison, who lived in Sheridan until last year, when he moved to Sundance to become district judge. Funeral services were Sept. 6 in Newcastle. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors with military graveside rites. Mrs. Dollison was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Upton to Raymond E. and Ruth M. (Maudlin) Rogers. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1936 and served in the Women's Army Corp., 5th Army during World War II. She was stationed in Italy and North Africa in communications. She was later employed by Mountain States Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator and billing clerk. She married
John E. Dollison June 8, 1946, in Newcastle. He died in 2002. Mrs. Dollison was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, Job's Daughters, the Senior Center and as a Red Cross worker in the hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, James Jay. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hawthorne of Chadron, Neb.; two other sons, Rollie of Osage and Mike of Newcastle; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; and one step-great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Michaels' Senior Center in Newcastle or Crestview Care Center in Chadron.
Laura Auchmuty
Laura Auchmuty, 91, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Auchmuty was born Oct. 19, 1911, to Paul and Bessie White in Greenwood, Neb. She married
Forrest L. Auchmuty June 20, 1935, in Auburon, Neb. They moved to Sheridan in fall, 1945, and Dr. Auchmuty practiced veterinary medicine until his death in 1947. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Auchmuty was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and a nephews.
Survivors include a niece, two nephews, and her adopted families, Joan and Wayne Kirby, Mark and Debbie Hutchins and family and Dean and Colleen Schatz and family.
