Doris M. Brown, 74, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Deaconess Billings Clinic in Billings. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Church of the Holy Trinity, 2644 Big Horn Ave., Sheridan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with Father Stuart J. Crawshaw officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo. Janie C. Adams
BUFFALO – Janie C. Adams, 107, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Visitation is 1-10 p.m. Wednesday and 1-1:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with private family graveside services. Mrs. Adams was born May 22, 1895, in Scotland. Her family moved to Buffalo in 1906. They arrived in Clearmont by train and took the stagecoach from there to Buffalo. She attended schools in Buffalo and married
George M. Adams Dec. 10, 1916. Mr. Adams was associated with Adams and Son Grocery and later purchased the Buffalo Trust and Title Co., which they operated from 1928 until retiring in 1963. Mr. Adams died in October 1971, and Mrs. Adams continued to live in Buffalo until her death. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo and was in many bridge groups over the years. Survivors include one son, Bill, of Buffalo; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald, and a grandson, Mark Adams.
Esther L. Burns
Esther Lorraine Burns, 54, of Buffalo, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Billings. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo, with the Rev. John Orwig officiating. Burial with graveside services will follow in Willow Grove cemetery, Buffalo. Mrs. Burns was born Aug. 10, 1948, in Pierre, S.D., to John and Fern Lee Konst. She grew up on a ranch in Midland, S.D., and in 1966 graduated from Philip High School in Philip, S.D. After high school she worked for First National Bank in Philip. She married
Sherman Burns on May 31, 1969, in Philip. They lived in Philip before moving to Colorado, where she worked in banking. The family moved in 1980 to Buffalo, where she worked at First National Bank until her death. She enjoyed sewing, travel, outdoor sports, fishing with her companion and soul mate, Ray Holt, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her father and a brother preceded her in death. Survivors include her mother of Philip; three sons, Craig Burns of Sheridan and Kevin and Corey Burns of Buffalo; five brothers, Leonard Konst of Anchorage, Alaska, David, Jeffrey and Thomas Konst of Philip, and Rodney Konst of Blue Ridge, Va.; two sisters, Edith Slovek of Philip and Kristie Bradley of Spearfish, S.D.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit City of Buffalo Foundation in care of Adams Funeral Home.
Georgia P. Swank
Georgia P. Swank, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be later. Mrs. Swank was born Aug. 21, 1928, in San Francisco to George and Barbara (Woodside) France. She married
Max Swank on July 19, 2000, in Northern California. She enjoyed building doll houses and home remodeling. Her first husband preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; two children, Rosa Rubay and Michael Cullinane; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
John Austin Larson
John Austin Larson, 50, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his home. A memorial service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Shelton Memorial cemetery in Shelton, Wash. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Larson was born in Shelton Dec. 15, 1951, to Austin and Norma (Helmer) Larson. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1970. He enlisted in the Army in 1970 and served until 1973. He married
Christine Flint of Shelton. They later divorced. He married
Patricia Bents of Colorado Springs, Colo., March 18, 1983. They moved to Sheridan in 1984, and he worked as sales manager for Cobra Tires. In 1997, he started Grand Slam Security in Sheridan. John enjoyed the mountains, four-wheeling, fishing and playing cribbage. He was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, handlebar mustache and cowboy hats. Survivors include his wife, Patty, of Sheridan; his parents of Shelton; brothers Bruce of Matlock, Wash., and David of Seattle; and two nephews. Loretta P. Norwash
Loretta P. Norwash, 65, Sheridan, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place, and private services will be later. Mrs. Norwash was born Nov. 29, 1936, in Sheridan to Elgin and Roberta (Richards) Ekis. She loved her family and pets, nature, movies and picnics. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Norwash, and two brothers, LeRoy and Ralph Ekis. Survivors include two children, Jay V. and Shirley K. Norwash; a sister, Elizabeth Parsons; and three brothers, Charles, Robert and James Ekis. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Frank Kawulok
Frank J. Kawulok Jr., 75, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with George Telez officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Mr. Kawulok was born April 30, 1927, in Monarch to Frank and Mary (Soltis) Kawulok Sr. He graduated from Ranchester High School, where he played basketball and football. He worked for Monarch Coal Co. and ranched until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1949. He served until 1953. He married
and was later divorced. He went to work for the Wyoming Employment Security Commission in 1956 in Worland. He transferred to the Sheridan office in 1962 and was promoted to manager in 1964. He married
Ellen Brantz Feb. 25, 1972. He worked for the WESC until July 1987, when he retired. He was a charter member of the Tongue River Rod & Gun Club and a member of the Ranchester Volunteer Fire Department. He was past president of the Wyoming Public Employees Association and a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Elks Lodge 520. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family in the mountains. A sister, Rose Bocek, and a brother, Jack, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; two sons, Frank III of Sheridan and Rudy of Cheyenne; a daughter, Billie Rawlings of Sheridan; a brother, Walter "Ray" of Ranchester; five sisters, Mary Wolney, Anna Kettley and Dorothy Williams, all of Sheridan, Katherine Kukuchka of Ranchester and Jeanette Bauder of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles Edmundson
Charles F. Edmundson, 76, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, near Wyarno. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mr. Edmundson was born March 7, 1926, at the Ranger Station on North Mills River, Henderson County, N.C., to Charles S. and Delphia Maria (Sentell) Edmundson. During his childhood, the family lived at ranger stations in the Osceola National Forest in Florida and Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee. He enlisted in the Army in April 1944 and served with the 1258th Combat Engineers, who were attached to the 3rd Army in the European Theater. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and was discharged in April 1946. He married
Wilma "Jean" Terry Oct. 12, 1947, at the Mule Shoe Ranch in Wheatland. Mr. Edmundson enjoyed hunting and fishing. For the last 15 years he fished for salmon in British Columbia and Alaska. He loved his family, the outdoors, Wyoming and his country. He enjoyed flowers, gardening and listening to gospel-quartet music. He was an avid fan of Monday Night Football and a member of the Jeans & Queens Square Dance Club. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Whitmore, Edna Williams and Inez Barrick; and three brothers, Doyle, Junior and Bill. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; three daughters, Terry Bochmann and Mary Edmundson, both of Sheridan, and Charlene Bullock of Littleton, Colo.; a son, Tom of Tooele, Utah; a sister, Kate Burgess of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Dubois of Chesnee, S.C.; and five grandchildren. BUFFALO – Ines O. Knight, 100, of Buffalo died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Amie Holt Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Hauck officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside rites. David Barbula
David William Barbula, 16, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial services will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sheridan High School Auditorium with the Rev. Joseph Keys officiating. A reception at the Historic Sheridan Inn will follow the services. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Barbula was born Sept. 10, 1986, in Laramie to Larry and Mary Barbula. The family returned to Sheridan in December that year. He was in 10th grade at Sheridan High School and belonged to the FFA and High School Rodeo Association. He was a member of Eco Club in junior high school. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, dancing, country music, working outdoors, fixing his truck and socializing. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Lucas of Sheridan; grandparents Treva and Jim Lannon, Darleen and Bill Schunk and Ed and Misty Barbula, all of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Katherine Edwards
Katherine B. Edwards, 91, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at her residence. Viewing is today until 7 p.m. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church with Pastor Robert Miller officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery, Masonic Section. Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Laramie to Edwin and Annie (Cameron) Baily. She grew up on a ranch near Centennial homesteaded by her grandparents in 1882. She was active in 4-H, received two Honor Scholarships in high school and graduated with a degree in home economics from the University of Wyoming. She taught school in Lingle and Newcastle before becoming a UW extension agent in Big Horn County. She later worked in the Sheridan County Extension Office, where she received an award for Meritorious Service from the county 4-H. She retired and married
Everett Edwards on June 16, 1946. She volunteered with the Cub Scouts and Brownies and helped raise money for charity, county fairs and other activities. She served on boards of the American Association of University Women and the Northern Wyoming Community College. She was a member of the Sheridan Book Club and P.E.O. and was active with First Congregational Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; a brother, Joel; and sister, Susan Baily Morgan of Laramie. Survivors include a daughter, Karyn Spears of Sheridan; a son, James Smith of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church.
Lorraine Jackson
M. Lorraine Jackson, 98, of Newton, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in the Kansas Christian Home of Newton. She was mother of Florence Rardin of Sheridan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood cemetery in Newton. Arrangements are with Petersen Funeral Home of Newton. Mrs. Jackson was born Oct. 25, 1904, in Nevada, Mo., to Oliver Franklin and Florence B. Davis. She married
Fred L. Jackson Oct. 19, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He died in 1983. She was a member of First Christian Church of Newton. She co-owned Jackson-Usher Salvage during the 1940s. She won several blue ribbons for her knitting at the Kansas State Fair. Survivors include another daughter, Verla R. Hauck of Newton; a sister, Virdean Lucas of Lawrence, Kan.; and three nieces.

Anna P. Cross, 100, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery, Elks Section, with the Rev. Leslie M. Cross March 20, 1923, in Moorefield, Neb. They came to Sheridan in 1938. Mrs. Cross volunteered for many causes. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Church Circle 4, Eastern Star Naomi Chapter 2 and the Women's Club. She enjoyed working in the yard and garden. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include a son, H. Duane Cross of New Orleans; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. O. Ross Campbell
O. Ross Campbell, 80, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Columbarium. Mr. Campbell was born July 25, 1922, in Medford, Ore., to Oren Ross Campbell Sr. and Alice (Oliver) Campbell. He grew up in Oregon, Kansas and Nebraska before moving to Denver. He was a 1940 graduate of East High School in Denver. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Wash. He began working in the theater business in 1937 at the Bluebird Theatre in Denver. He worked in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and South Dakota before coming to Wyoming in 1950. He married
Margaret “Peg” Stouffer July 22, 1952, in Newcastle. They moved to Sheridan soon after. Mr. Campbell bought the Orpheum Theatre in spring 1953 and began Orpheum Theatres Inc., which included the WYO Theater, Skyline Drive-in and Centennial Theatres in Sheridan and the Bison and Sunset theatres in Buffalo. He and several friends formed Theatre Operators Inc. in 1962. The business became a regional theater chain in several states. He served on the board of the National Association of Theatre Owners and was vice president. He was 1980 Showester of the Year. He was president of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce in 1957, managing director of All American Indian Days in 1959-60 and member of Big Horn Mountain Masonic Lodge 43, the Scottish Rite and Kalif Shrine, Elks Lodge 520 and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He also served in the Vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. A sister, Jane, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve “Ross” of Las Vegas and William “Bill” and Joseph “Joe,” both of Sheridan; two daughters, Sarah “Sally” Eaton of Sheridan and Margaret “Meg” of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund or St. Peter's Organ Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank in Sheridan.
Fred Pate
Fred Pate, 89, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal cemetery, with Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 officiating. Military rites will be by the Wyoming National Guard and John Donald Garbutt American Legion Post 7. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Pate was born June 15, 1913, in McCook, Neb., to Delbert and Drucilla (Hagerson) Pate. He grew up and attended schools in McCook before moving to Wyoming to work on ranches. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the start of World War II. He served in the European Theater, mainly in the mountains of Italy. He went to work for the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D., after the war. He later transferred to the VA Hospital in Sheridan. He married
Cornelia “Nellie” Ritola on Valentine's Day, 1973, in Sheridan. He was a life member of American Legion and Sheridan Elks Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, dancing and playing pool. He was a member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge entertainment committee for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife and all but one of his siblings. Survivors include his wife, Nellie, of Sheridan; a stepson, Dr. Carl Ritola of Sheridan; a stepdaughter, Judy Pinder of Sheridan; a brother, “Jigs” of McCook; six step-grandchildren; seven great-step-grandchildren; several nieces and one nephew. Frank Marosok
Former Sheridan resident Frank Marosok died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, while visiting his family in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, Colo. Mr. Marosok was a 1952 graduate of Sheridan High School. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Barbara Hauf of Sheridan in January 1958. His interests included gardening, spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports and cheering for the Wyoming Cowboys and Boston Red Sox. Survivors include his wife; one son, Butch of Cheyenne; two daughters, Teresa Myers of Fort Worth and Vicki Gazdik of Longmont, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Gieselman was born April 26, 1941, in Sheridan to Albert and Mary (Suel) Schutte. She grew up in Sheridan, attended Taylor School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1959. She married
Robert Gieselman Sept. 27, 1959, in Sheridan. She worked at Conrads for a few years. She was a member of Family Life Center and enjoyed her flower garden, bowling, bingo and collecting dishes and crystal. Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark of Sheridan; a daughter, Michelle of Sheridan; her mother of Sheridan; four brothers, Richard Schutte of Arvada, Colo., and Albert, James and Robert Schutte, all of Sheridan; two sisters, Rose Kraft and MaDonna Rowe, both of Sheridan; and five grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident George “Sonny” Holmes, 72, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Arizona. Mary E. Aller, 87, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Black Hills National cemetery. Mrs. Aller was born March 26, 1915, in Harborne, England, to Harry and Elizabeth (Gregory) Doggett. She attended St. Peter's Church of England School. She served with the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II and was stationed at Kidderminster, Worcestershire. She married
Lester Aller, an American serviceman, June 7, 1945, in England. She left Southampton, England, aboard the Queen Mary in March 1946, then traveled by train from New York to Kansas to join her husband. They immigrated later to British Columbia, Canada. Mrs. Aller moved to Sheridan with her son in 1991. She enjoyed country rides and taking pictures of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982 and by a sister. Survivors include one son, David of Sheridan; and three daughters, Sharon Renner of Bismarck, N.D., Linda Newman of Springdale, Ark., and Janice Aller of Arlington, Va.
