Joyce McGee, 65, of Sheridan died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. An open viewing will be all day Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Keller officiating.
Raymond E. Mahon
Raymond E. Mahon, 93, of Sheridan, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements were with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Mahon was born March 8, 1908, in Santa Paula, Calif., to Horatio and Mary Anice Mahon. He grew up in Santa Paula, Calif., and attended Santa Paula Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and participated in campaigns in Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe. He married
Dorothy Wilber Mahon in 1943 in Los Angeles, where he was an automobile serviceman and service-station operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Robert, and a sister, Berniece. Survivors include a stepson, Dane Culbertson and stepdaughter, Ann Greeley, both of Sheridan; a sister, Lucille Mayea of Camarillo, Calif.; and a niece and nephews.
Maxine Charlotte Corne
Maxine Charlotte Corne, 81, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Mrs. Corne was born June 17, 1920, in Macon County, N.C., to L.B. and Florence (Williams) Norton. She married
Norton Corne Aug. 6, 1938, in Clayton, Ga. She loved to read, especially murder mysteries. She enjoyed needlework and puzzles. She also loved to laugh and work in her garden. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Toni Grant of Sheridan and Kathryn Schwab of Littleton, Colo.; her son, Bruce Corne of Maab, Utah; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Berniece Brown
Memorial services for Berniece Brown, 86, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Story Woman’s Club with the Rev. David Miers officiating. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the Johnson County Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 26, 1914, in Forsyth, Mont., to Arthur and Viola Shaw. She was raised on the Dana ranch at Pass Creek. She attended Pass Creek School and Sheridan High School. She taught school at Parkman after graduation. She married
Colvin (Cully) B. Brown Nov. 21, 1935. They ranched at Dayton, and on the Little Big Horn River above Wyola, Mont. They retired to Story, where her husband worked as a water commissioner. She moved to Buffalo following his death. They were longtime members of Sheridan Elks Lodge. Survivors include two sons, Arthur Brown of Longmont, Colo., and Tory Brown of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Grace Strange
Grace M. Strange, 95, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center. Viewing is 4-7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Melius officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Strange was born April 26, 1906, in Homer, Neb., to Christian and Goldie (Patterson) Christopher. She grew up and graduated from high school in Emerson, Neb., then taught in country schools for two years. She married
Fred Strange June 24, 1925, in Wakefield, Neb. They moved to Sheridan in 1936. She sold Avon products 25 years, was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed cooking, music, raising flowers, fishing, camping and the mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and by one sister. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Bates of Sheridan, and four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-great-grandchild. Memorials may benefit the First Presbyterian Church.
Donald Bohren
Donald R. Bohren, 52, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside committal of cremains will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with Pastor Dan Keller officiating. Military rites will be by the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bohren was born April 4, 1949, in Sheridan to Duane and Charlottee (Badgett) Bohren. He grew up in Sheridan and served in the U.S. Navy. He returned to Sheridan after service. He married
Sherry Thompson Oct. 2, 1976, in Sheridan. He worked in the laundry at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing baseball and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Dawnuale Rae. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Christopher Young, and two daughters, Rita Morrison and Charlotte Bohren, all of Sheridan; his father and stepmother, Duane and Irene Bohren of Sheridan; four stepbrothers, Jim Vine of Illinois and Don, Jerry and Ed Vine, all of Sheridan; and two grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the Animal Shelter, 325 Fort Road in Sheridan.
Marie Sabo
Marie Patricia Sabo, 97, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, with rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. by Father Ronald Stolcis. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Sabo was born Marie Kovacic Aug. 6, 1904, in Cambria to Austrian immigrants. She attended the Music Conservatory in Spearfish, S.D., and later in Lincoln, Neb. She married
Steve Sabo in 1925 in Monarch. He died in 1997. She was an organist for many years at Holy Name Catholic Church, was a Cub Scouts den mother and was active in many organizations including the Sheridan Woman’s Club. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include four sons, Steve of Pennsylvania, Jerry of Montana, Donald of Texas and Jim of Wyoming; a daughter, Patricia of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Francis Traub
Former Sheridan County resident Francis Irving Traub, 84, of Manhattan, Mont., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. A rosary is 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, Mont. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus, followed by Rite of Committal in the family lot in Valley View cemetery, Broadus. Mr. Traub was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Pinto, Mont., to George and Elizabeth (Portwine) Traub. He married
Georgia Richard Oct. 10, 1945. He farmed and ranched in the Bay Horse, Mont., area until 1977, when he retired to Story. He subsequently worked eight years for the Fish Hatchery. He took a caretaker position on a ranch in Big Horn in 1984 and worked there until 1999, when he moved to Manhattan to be close to family. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Elks, and was an outfitter for several years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, seven brothers, three sisters and a grandson. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ray and Lee, both of Broadus; seven daughters, Ellen Wright of Kent, Wash., Jane Giacometto of Boyes, Mont., Rhonda Delzer of Bismarck, N.D., Nina Schaffer of Wapanucka, Okla., Becky Etten of Reno, Nev., Pat Worman of Manhattan and Lynn Dyksterhouse of Belgrade, Mont.; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Powder River Manor or Powder River Historical Society in Montana.
Jack Dow
Jack Dow, 77, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Big Horn at a later date.
Mr. Dow was born April 8, 1924, to Bert and Emma (Urbanoski) Dow. After completing high school, he served two years as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He married
Dorothy Smith Oct. 8, 1946, in Hardin, Mont. He lived his entire life on the Dow ranch, which was homesteaded by his grandfather Jack, who surveyed the towns of Big Horn and Sheridan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching his son’s football games and his grandsons’ sports and taking his grandsons hunting. He was a member of Peter’s Grazing Association and Big Horn Historical Society. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alan, son Jack and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bert, of Sheridan; two sisters, Elizabeth Hager of Elk, Wash., and Mary Long of Laramie; and two grandchildren. Althea Jennings
Althea Jennings, 50, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County after a struggle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Moose Lodge 674. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Ms. Jennings was born Aug. 13, 1951, to Robert and Maxine (Colhoff) Eastman. She attended school in Sheridan and worked as a file clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, reading, motorcycle rides, camping, boating and her family. She was a member of Moose Lodge 674, Eagles 4169 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1560 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Robert Creathbaum; and a brother, Ed Eastman. Survivors include her companion, Jack Ralston II of Sheridan; a daughter, Tia-Dawn Logan, and son, Jobe Jennings, both of Sheridan; stepmother Vivian Creathbaum of Sheridan; three sisters, Myrna Paukei of Oklahoma and Roberta “Bitsy” Colhoff and Georgette Benbo, both of South Dakota; and a brother, Darrell Eastman of Oregon. Dorothy Brug
BUFFALO — Sheridan native Dorothy Oleta Brug, 89, of Buffalo died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Father Steve Samples officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Visitation is 1-10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Brug was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Sheridan to Sam and Nellie Thomas. She grew up and was educated in Sheridan. She married
Fred Brug Jan. 2, 1928, in Hardin, Mont., and they farmed and ranched in the Clear Creek Valley, including 17 years on the Healy ranch. They later ranched at Leiter. They moved to Buffalo after retiring. Mr. Brug died in 1993. Mrs. Brug married
Claire Boyce in 1996 and moved to his ranch in Lewiston, Mont. She returned to Buffalo after his death. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by three children, Frederick Brug, Jean Jardon and Marjorie Adami; six brothers, Lloyd, Jess, Ralph, Roy, Bob and Bernard Thomas; and a grandson, Rick Brown. Survivors include a daughter, Dollie Iberlin of Buffalo; two sisters, Bernice Musgrave of Sheridan and Ruth Peterson of Newtown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Judith Tappe
Former Sheridan resident Judith Mary Tappe, 45, of Helena, Mont., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Montana State Hospital. Viewing was noon to 5:30 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home in Helena. A vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Helena. Funeral Mass will be 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Mountain View cemetery in Billings. Ms. Tappe was born Sept. 30, 1955, to Herman and Leona (Burns) Tappe in Miles City, Mont. She was a 1975 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married
Dana Fox in Billings after graduation, and they moved to Albuquerque before returning to Sheridan. Ms. Tappe lived in Sheridan the next 20 years, working at Trail’s End Restaurant as a cook and operating a commercial and residential janitorial service. She moved to Helena in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; her father; a sister, Carol M. Worden; and a great-nephew. Survivors include two sons, Max Fox and Dan Fox, both of Helena; her mother of Clinton, Iowa; two brothers, Pat Tappe of Clinton and Michael Tappe of Shakopee, Minn.; six sisters, Barbara Timmerman of Clinton, Katherine Kramer of Valentine, Neb., Ginger Blann of Fulton, Ill., and Kathleen Noel, Jo Gibson and Annie Tappe-Scarff, all of Helena; and four grandchildren.
