Thomas C. Rice - 05/19/04

Memorial services for Thomas C. Rice, 75, of Sheridan, the father of a Gillette woman, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating.

Mr. Rice died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sheridan.

He was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Sauk County, Wis. He served in the U.S. Navy.

On June 22, 1950, he married Marilyn Wright in LaCrosse, Wis.

Mr. Rice is survived by one son; two daughters, including Ruth Giertych of Gillette; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter; one grandson; one brother; and two sisters.

Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Hazard Finley - 05/20/04

Funeral services for Carolyn Hazard Finley, 76, of Dallas and the sister of a Gillette woman, were at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, with the Rev. Don Scates officiating. Burial was at Restland in Dallas.

Mrs. Finley died on Wednesday, May 12, 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Finley of Dallas; one daughter, Colleen Stamps of Dallas; two sons, Guy Finley Jr. of Dallas and Robert Finley of Seattle; two sisters, Liz Zinke of Avinger, Texas, and Theresa Case of Gillette; and her brothers Bill Hazard of Memphis and John Hazard of Rockport, Texas.

He was preceded in death by her mother, Effie Mae Hazard of Vernon, Texas; her father, Robert Hazard of Vernon; and her daughter, Marsha Finley of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to M.D. Anderson or the National Diabetes Association.

Earl Darrel Bock - 05/21/04

A celebration of life for Earl Darrel Bock, 55, of Gillette will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating.

Mr. Bock died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Known to his family and friends as Darrel, he was born May 24, 1948, to Marjorie (Roberts) and Earl Bock. He was raised and educated in the Osage area, graduating from Upton High School in 1966.

Shortly after graduation, he met Nancy Honadel. On Aug. 19, 1967, he married her in Newcastle. They lived in Newcastle and Moorcroft before moving to Gillette in 1970, where he has lived since.

In January 1968, he began a 25-year career at the Black Hills Power Plant until his retirement in 1994.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting, and being in "The Great Wyoming Outdoors."

Mr. Bock is survived by his mother; his wife, and three sons, Rodney Bock, Craig Bock and Dan Bock, all of Gillette; one brother, Gary Bock of Wright; two sisters, Patricia Farmer of Julesburg, Colo., and Judy Patz of Gillette; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2003.

Henry Weber, Jr. - 03/12/04

A celebration of life for Henry Weber Jr., 90, of Gillette will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home chapel.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Mr. Weber died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of natural causes.

He was born the third of 12 children on May 17, 1913, to Henry and Marie (Weber) Weber Sr. aboard a ship near Baltimore, Md. As a young man, he helped his parents on the family farm in various locations such as Moss, Maine, and Bridger, and Laurel, Mont.

On March 12, 1940, he married Ruth Curen in Billings, Mont. He became a naturalized citizen in December of 1940 in Red Lodge, Mont. They owned and operated a ranch near Dryhead, Mont. In 1947, they moved to Laurel, Mont., so their daughter could attend school

Mr. Weber worked for a short while in a sugar beet factory in Billings before going to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He worked for the railroad for 30 years working in the icehouses and stockyards and in other capacities.

In 2001, after retiring, he moved to Gillette. He had a remarkable memory and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He loved the deer and antelope that came into his yard.

Mr. Weber is survived by his two daughters, Nedra Weber of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Winnie Sherard of Gillette; one son, Henry Weber III of Hauser Lake, Idaho; one brother, John G. Weber of Las Vegas; two sisters, Emma Anderson of Aurora, Colo., and Esther Reiter of Bozeman; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Peter, Jacob, Harry, Alexander, an infant brother; and three sisters; Maria, Marie and Hulda.

Robert Wenande - 03/12/04

A Mass of Christian burial for Robert Joseph Wenande, 80, of Oshoto will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Wenande died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz., of natural causes.

Mr. Wenande was born Nov. 4, 1923, to Gertrude (Johnson) and William J. Wenande in Alexandria, S.D. He grew up on the family ranch, attending eight years of rural school at Stroner. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1941.

Upon graduation, he joined his parents in ranching. When his father died in 1961, he bought the ranch and added raising sheep to their cattle-raising industry.

On June 21, 1951, he married Jean Marie "Bonnie" Rourke of Gillette at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. They had three children.

Mr. Wenande participated in rodeos as a bareback rider, calf roper and team roper. Later, he gained local fame as a rodeo announcer. He loved working with children in the Little Levi rodeos.

He was a member of the Horse Creek Roping Club, putting on rodeos at the Horse Creek Arena at his ranch at Oshoto. They also put on the Crook County Fair Rodeo at Sundance for 10 years.

He served on many boards during his lifetime. He was a county commissioner for Crook County for 10 years, served on the school board, was a member of Trail Creek Grazing Association for 38 years, served on the board of directors for Spring Creek Grazing Association, was a director for Powder River Energy for 22 years, a Basin Board director for five years, a member of the Crook County Predator Board, Wyoming Wool Growers Association, Wyoming Stock Growers Association and the Wyoming State Rural Electric Association.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St, Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette and Hulett. He enjoyed golfing, deep-sea fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always enjoyed sharing a good joke and visiting with people.

Mr. Wenande is survived by his wife of 52 years of Oshoto; his three children, Diane Wenande McCartney of Oshoto, Debbie Anderson of Hulett, and Bill Wenande of Copenhagen, Denmark; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Nell Moore of Lemmon, S.D.; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established in his name to benefit the West Nile Research Foundation and the Guillan Barre Association. Donations may be sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
