DeWayne Olend Dean

DeWayne Olend Dean, 89, Evanston, died Jan. 7.

He was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Woodruff, Utah, the son of the late Stephen Ray and Dorathea Marie Olend Dean. He married Helen Mae Brown in 1937 in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City.

He was employed as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad most of his life and was a member of the Old Timers' Club.

He had many positions in the LDS Church and was a high priest.

He enjoyed writing poetry and singing.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Arlene Dean; one son and daughter-in-law, Dorothy and John Stanley; two sisters, Arla Dean and Thea Call; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston.

Elna Mary Horton

Elna Mary Horton, 92, Green River, died Jan. 10, 2005 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River after having been ill for six months.

She was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Green River, the daughter of the late William and Esther Crofts Mortimer.

She attended schools in Green River where she graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1928. She married Homer Horton in 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1978.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the Green River Merc for many years and later for the State Bank of Green River until she retired in 1972.

She was a member of the Union Congregational Church, the Golden Hour Senior Center and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Brown of Green River and Anita Narramore and husband Keith of Woodcross, Utah; three sisters, Florence Walker of Pennsylvania, Billee Skinner of Salt Lake City and Ruth Ann Hermanson and husband Alton of Green River; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Mortimer; and one sister, Evelyn Carle.

Funeral services were conducted today at the Union Congregational Church, Rev. Ed Mendenhall officiating. Interment was in Riverview cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Union Congregational Church or the charity of choice.

Jose Frutoso "Fred" Sanchez

Jose Frutoso "Fred" Sanchez, 86, Green River, died Jan. 7, 2005 at the University of Utah Medical Center where he had been a patient for one week.

He was born June 28, 1915, in Arroyo Hondo, N.M., the son of the late Nicholas and Agapita Cacon Sanchez. He attended schools there and married Lois Waters in Taos, N.M., in 1947. They later divorced.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his former wife, Lois Mullens of Green River; three sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Pam Sanchez and Pat and Terrie Sanchez, all of Green River, and James and Peggy Sanchez of Phoenix; one daughter, Lorraine Sanchez of Albuquerque; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Eddie and Henry; two daughters Patsy and Sandra; one brother, Jacob Sanchez; and one sister, Alvera Sanchez.

A mass of Christian burial was conducted yesterday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River, Father Tom Sheridan officiating. Military graveside services and interment were at the Riverview cemetery.

Richard Dean Schuck

Richard Dean Schuck, 45, Hot Springs, N.D., died Jan. 12.

He was born Oct. 27, 1959, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Richard and Florence Francis Schuck.

He attended schools in Green River and was a graduate of Green River High School with the class of 1978. He was very active in high school sports and attended the University of Wyoming after high school.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1981-1992, including during Desert Storm.

He married Karen Deveraux in 1981 and they later divorced.

He worked in the construction industry and for the past two years, worked at the Sough Dakota State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his many friends.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Richard and Mary Schuck of Green River; one daughter, Hailey Schuck of California; one son, Dylan Schuck of California; one brother, Stephen Schuck of Rock Springs; one half-sister, Andrea Schuck of Laramie, one step-brother, Bodan Janota of Atlantic, Iowa; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Following cremation, funeral services will be conducted Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River.

Rev. Bob Chapman of the Mount of Olives Lutheran Church will officiate.

Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services.

Marcella May Anastos

Marcella May Anastos, 90, Green River, passed away on Aug. 1 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River, where she had been a resident for the past two months. A longtime resident of Green River, she had been in ill health for the past six months.

She was born on May 9, 1915, in Nebraska City, Neb., the daughter of the late Ray and Rachael Murphy.

She attended schools in Green River.

She married Steve H. Anastos in Manila, Utah, in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1975.

Her interests included crocheting, gardening and reading great books.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Survivors include five sons, John Anastos and Tom Anastos, both of Green River, Steve H. Anastos Jr. of Rock Springs, Nick Anastos and Neal Anastos; three daughters, Mary Anastos of Woodland, Wash., Diana Ryan of Denton, Texas, and Sue Thompson of Rock Springs; two brothers, Louie Medina and Edward Medina, both of Mexico; four sisters, Anita Schultz of Green River, Nacia Brewer of Mexico, Catalina Corvallis of Portland, Ore., and Teresa Handris of Vancouver, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 64 cousins; 19 nephews; 26 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Stella Rose Anastos; one brother, Don Murphy; two grandsons, Nick Anastos Jr. and David H. Anastos.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 East Flaming Gorge Way, Green River. Father Tom Sheridan will officiate.

Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday at the chapel from noon until service time.

John N. Dallmann

John N. Dallmann, 76, Green River, passed away July 31 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a sudden illness.

He was born in Lonestar, Texas, on Nov. 21, 1928, the son of the late John Noonkester and Sadie Dallmann. After the death of his parents he was adopted by his maternal grandparents, Augusta and Janet Dallmann and raised in Carlsbad, N.M.

He attended schools in Carlsbad.

He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II.

He married Florence Potter in Las Vegas on May 24, 1950. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2004.

He worked at the U.S. Potash Company in Carlsbad before moving to Green River, in 1961 to work for Stauffer Chemical Company. He retired from Stauffer Chemical Company in 1986. He and his family also operated the Coin Laundry in Green River for 14 years.

His interest include spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by three sons, Keith Dallmann of Salt Lake City, Kenneth Dallmann and wife Pam of Evanston, and Joseph Dallmann and wife Leona of Albuquerque, N.M.; four daughters, Vikki and husband Jessie Flores of Phoenix, Linda Prince and husband Darrell of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Cynthia GrandPre and husband Jerry of Green River, and Dara Bobbitt and husband Leonard of Green River; one nephew. Richard Caldwell of Little Rock, Ark.; one great niece, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Gary Dallmann; one great-grandson, Gavin; and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. Father Tom Sheridan will conduct the services. Military graveside service and interment will be in the Riverview cemetery, Green River. Friends may call at the church hour prior to services.

Pallbearers: Monty Flores, Michael Flores, Mark Flores, Jeffrey Dallmann, Joel Dallmann, Aaron GrandPre, Cristopher Dallmann and Kenneth Dallmann.

Donna Lou Lecce

Donna Lou Lecce, 69, Green River, died on July 26 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. A resident of Green River for the past two months and former resident of Superior, she died following a lengthy illness.

She was born on June 12, 1936, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of the late John and Kathrine Brodwick Green.

She attended schools in Superior and was a graduate of the Superior High School with the class of 1953.

She married Rudolph Lecce in San Pedro, Calif., on Dec. 10, 1973, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1984.

She was employed at the Superior Elementary School for many years as a cook.

She was a member of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.

Her interests were meeting new people, working puzzles, walking outdoors and participating in all community activities.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Robert Fox of Bellflower, Calif., and John Lee Fox of Las Vegas; two sisters, Patricia Carisota of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Vivian Thompson of Las Vegas; two granddaughters, Kristina Naomi Fox and Katarina Cecilia Fox; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, John Green; and one sister, Jacqueline Williams.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 29 at the Saint Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs. Father Carl Beavers officiated. A rosary was recited July 28 at the Saint Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Interment was in the St Joseph's section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Armando Lopez

The friends of Armando Lopez are invited to a memorial gathering and celebration of his life at Centennial Park at 3 p.m. on Aug. 6.

Bring chairs or blankets for seating; refreshments will be served.

He was born and raised in Texas, served in World War II during 1943 in Africa and 1944 in Italy. He served his country for 20 years stationed all over the world, traveling 20 different tours ending in Germany in 1961.

He met his wife of 43 years, Trudel, in Green River. He brought his family back to the United States in 1968 and moved to Green River in 1975.

Retiring from Stauffer Chemical in January 1985, he joined Trudel in their venture of Trudel's Restaurant where he became the "King of the Blue Margaritas." After 14 years, he retired again and continued to be active in the American Legion and the Rotary Club.

He is missed by his wife Trudel, his two sons, David Richard and Pedro, and daughter, Ursula, as well as grandchildren Carrie, Richie and three great-grandchildren.

He passed away on Jan. 23, 2005, while wintering in San Diego, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Sweetwater County Battered Women's Shelter (YWCA).

M. Velma Maestas

M. Velma Maestas, 58, Berthoud, Colo., formerly of Cuba, N.M., died on July 26 in Windsor Health Care Hospice Unit in Windsor, Colo.

She was born on May 2, 1946, in Cuba, N.M., to Elias Romero and Carmelita Garcia Romero. She was one of 10 children. She attended elementary school and high school in New Mexico.

She married Marshal Maestas on Dec. 28, 1966, in Tiera Maria, N.M. They later divorced.

She was a homemaker and a devoted mother and enjoyed bible study, cooking, sewing, crocheting, going camping and music.

She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Cummings and husband Matt of Green River, Brigette Fishburn and husband Bruce of Berthoud, Colo., and Belinda Kitchen and husband Travis Kitchen of Estes Park, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Marshal Cummings, Michael Cummings and Brooke Cummings, all of Green River, Brian Fishburn, Calvin Fishburn and Kenneth Fishburn, all of Berthoud, Colo., and Hunter Kitchen and Elijah Kitchen of Estes Park, Colo.; five brothers, Julio Romero, Harry Romero, Jerry Romero, Elias Romero, and Ramon Romero; and three sisters, Bernie Arellano, Mary Vasquez and Judy Ramirez.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elias Romero in 1962, her mother, Carmelita Romero in 2005, and brother, Pedro Romero in 1961.

A mass of Christian Burial was conducted on July 30 at Church of the Nativity, Albuquerque, N.M. Cremation has taken place and inurnment followed services in Immaculate Conception cemetery in Cuba, N.M.

Memorial contributions to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, Colo. 80537.
