Clayton B. Holman

Clayton B. Holman, 87, Green River died March 21 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

He was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Andover, Maine, the son of the late Harold Holman Sr. and Agnes Harlow Holman. He attended schools in Andover, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Maine.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Sylvia Wood in Wilton, Maine, in 1958. He was employed as a millwright until his retirement in 1980.

His interests included stock car racing, hunting, water skiing, auto mechanics his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Sylvia Holman of Green River; two daughters, June Hoar and husband William of Farmington, Maine, and Lori A. Paisley of Green River; one son, Brent Holman of Green River; three sisters, Barbara Kendall of Brunswick, Maine, Joyce Pepin and husband Paul of Newport, Maine, and Sylvia Gordon and husband Lincoln of Auborn, Maine; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Hardy, and four brothers, Kenneth Holman, Harold Jr, Elwood, and Lauren.

Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Brent Holman, 655 Clark St. Green River.

Memorial services and inurnment will scheduled at a later date in Wilton, Maine.

William James Acker

William James Acker, 86, died March 30 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake city following a brief illness.

He was born June 18, 1917, in Park City, the son of the late John and Armida Sconsoni Battisti Acker. He attended schools in Superior and married Elaine Rose Davis in Green River in 1941.

He worked in the coal mines in Superior and owned and operated the Eagle Bar with his brother Alfred for more than 20 years. He also worked for Stauffer Chemical as a hoist man for 22 years until his retirement in December, 1984.

He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Donald Mattinson, Linda Acker and John Pallesen, all of Rock Springs, and Elaine and Mark Chernine of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alfred and Leno Acker and Rudi and Albert Battisti; two sisters, Emma Battisti Oliver and Lena Battisti Prevedel and twin grandsons, Brent and Bryan Mattinson.

Funeral services will be Saturday at noon at the LDS Stake Center in Rock Springs. Bishop John Beach will conduct the services.

Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Friends may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel Friday afternoon and evening until 8 p.m. and at the church until time of services.

Donald Paul Cummings

Donald Paul Cummings 78, Raton, N.M., died in Albuquerque March 15.

He was born June 14, 1925, in El Reno, Okla., the son of the late Noel Cummings and Agnes Gruber Cummings.

He opened Craftsman Glass Company in 1960 and sold the company in 1975. He then started Artisan Builders which he owned until his death. He was a member of the St. Patrick's St. Joseph's Church, The Raton Elks Lodge No. 865, The Knights of Columbus for 60 years and the Raton Golf Association.

Survivors include by his wife Bennye Cummings; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Paul Frey of Green River; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Michael and Henrietta Cummings of Raton, N.M., Patrick and Barbara Cummings of Ennis, Texas, and Donald Paul and Audrey Cummings of Raton; three brothers. Robert Cummings, Jimmy Cummings and Charles Cummings, all of Missouri; five sisters, Doris Ritterman of Baltimore, Md. Rita Henry of Grandview, Mo., Jeanette Wilbur of Riverside, Calif., Donna McGarry of Georgia, and Carolee Sowell of Clinton, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Cummings and Frances Cummings.

The Mass of Resurrection was conducted March 18 at St. Patrick's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father George Silva as the celebrant. Burial followed in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Ernest James Lowseth

Ernest James Lowseth, 74, Rock Springs, died April 1 shortly after being admitted to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

He was born June 13, 1929, in Rock Springs, the son of the late Arne and Kathleen Wright Lowseth.

He attended schools in Rock Springs and Green River and graduated from Green River High School with the class of 1949.

He married the former Frances "Marge" Mrak in Rock Springs in 1956.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Sweetwater County Road and Bridge where he worked 45 years as a supervisor.

He was a member of the VFW, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Holy Spirit Catholic Community. His interests were hunting, fishing and house remodeling.

Survivors include his wife, one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Shirley Lowseth of Rock Springs; one daughter, Lisa Lowseth of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Thomas Lowseth and wife Charline of Green River; one brother-in-law, John Mrak; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Meyer; and one brother, John "Joe" *.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated yesterday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Military graveside services and interment were conducted by the American Legion in the Saint Joseph's section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Andrea Elaine Wold

Andrea Elaine Wold, 38, Green River died April 4 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a sudden illness.

She was born March 15, 1966, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the daughter of Richard A. Lamorie and Bonnie E. Wright Mesrobian. She attended elementary and high school in Rock Springs.

She has been employed as a school bus driver, a dog groomer at Classy Canine in Green River. She was also employed at Lakeway Liquors and was a truck driver for Gorge Construction at the time of her death.

She was a member of the Catholic Church and her interests included her children, fishing, and camping.

Survivors include her father, Richard A. Lamorie of Louisiana; mother, Bonnie E. Mesrobian of Casper; three sons, Robert A. Whitfield currently in the Air Force in Florida, Michael J. Whitfield and Dagan Lee Wood, both of Green River; one daughter, Angelia E.L. Whitfield of Green River; three brothers, Willard Andrew Lamorie, Mark T. Mesrobian, and Dustin J. Mesrobian all of Casper; one sister, Kaleigh M. Mesrobian of Casper; grandmothers, Elaine D. Roller of Las Vegas, Nevada and Stella M. Lamorie of Louisiana; several aunts, uncles, cousins; two nieces; two nephews, Andrew J. Lamorie of Casper and Camden Lamorie of Montana; and her close companion Mike Morrison of Green River.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers John Lamorie and Willard Wright, step grandfather Edward Roller, brother, Richard Andrew Lamorie, two aunts, Shayne Wright Mahar and Tillie Lamorie.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. April 8 at Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Cremation will take place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. Inurnment will be in the Riverview cemetery.

Jean Echer Gecan

Jean Echer Gecan, 77, Rock Springs, died April 8 at her home following an illness of the past two years.

She was born June 3, 1926, in Dicks, Colo., the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes McIntosh Echer.

She attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1944. She then married Frank Gecan in 1945.

She was employed by Mountain Bell Telephone for 33 years until she retired as a supervisor in 1977.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers and the Young at Heart Senior Center.

She was a volunteer at Broadway Bargains and the Soup Kitchen, and she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband; daughter Linda Gecan McShane of Vancouver, B.C.; three brothers, John Echer of Price, Utah, Charles and Duncan Echer, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; sister Chris Echer Easton of Green River; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Lisa Hart officiating. Interment was in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park cemetery.

Frank D. Watts

Frank D. Watts, 80, of Malvern, Ark., died April 1 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Hot Springs, Ark., following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Booneville, Ark., on April 7, 1923, the son of the late Robert A. and Lily Mae Young Watts. He married Martha Belle McHenry in 1942 in Benton, Ark.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until his retirement in 1966. During his service, he was in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

After his military retirement, he was employed by the Timex Corporation as a supervisor. He then relocated to Green River where he worked for Church and Dwight until he retired in 1984.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.

He was a Baptist and a member of the Rockport Masonic Lodge 58.

Survivors include his wife of Malvern; three sons, Frank "Danny" Watts and wife Brenda of Superior; Philip Watts of Malvern and Michael Watts of Eauclaire, Wisc.; two daughters, Mary Jane Richards, and Sue Cook and husband Ted of Castle Rock, Colo.; one sister, Hazel Gaither of Arkadelphia, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Watts.

Graveside services were conducted Monday at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Malvern.

Elsie Mae Hiner

Elsie Mae Hiner, 75, died April 8 at Sageview Care Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 25, 1928, in Rock Springs, the daughter of the late Clyde and Elizabeth Nelson Crofts.

She attended schools in Rock S4prings and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1947.

She was by C.A. West as a sales clerk for 25 years and at Ace Hardware for seven years.

Her interests included crocheting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Jim Mlinar of Rock Springs; one brother, Thomas Crofts of Noarth Carolina; one sister, Clara Simmons of Show Low, Ariz.; foru grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by one daughter, Mary Chabre; brother Clyde Crofts; sister Betty Evans and one great-grandson, Bryel Mlinar.

Following creamation, memorial services were conducted Monday at the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs with Rev. Lisa Hart officiating.

Fayette J. Holleback

Fayette J. Holleback, 62, Green River, died April 7 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County following a sudden illness.

She was born May 21, 1941, in Brainerd, Wisc., the daughter of the late Ray and Helen Hazel Mortenson.

She attended schools there and graduated from Brainerd High School with the class of 1959.

She married Ronald Holleback in Manila in 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1995.

She was employed for many years as a health care professional at the state hospital in Minnesota.

Her interests included crafts, attending rendezvous and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Ebinger and wife Mary of Green River and Mike Ebinger of Nebraska; one daughter, Lynne Pierce of Lander; two sisters, Bonnie Billman and Sharron Howard, both of Brainerd; and three grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step father, Allen Alwin.

Graveside services and interment were conducted Monday at the Riverview cemetery in Green River.

Elizabeth Kolesar

Elizabeth Kolesar, 74, of Wakefield, Mich., died April 3, 2004 at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

She was born March 5, 1930, in Ironwood, Mich., the daughter of the late James and Mary Repischak Soraruf.

She graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic High School with the class of 1948. She married Paul A. Kolesar at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood in 1952.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Patricia Kolesar of Green River, and Paul and Star Kolesar of Bessemer???; four daughters, Kathleen Picoldi of Green River, Martha Kolesar of Wakefield, Laurie Smith and husband Jay of Zionsville, Ind. and Leslie Kolesar and companion Jeffrey Soltesz of Saxon, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother James Soraruf; sister Virginia Kravetz, both of Ypsilanti, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial was conducted April 7. Following cremation, inurnment was at Riverside cemetery in Ironwood.

Devon Harrell

Devon Harrell, 78, Green River, died April 23, 2004 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake city following a sudden illness.

He was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Bennett Springs Staten Park, Mo., the son of the late Leroy and Genevieve Cumbea Harrell.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad where he was employed for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Green River, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the BPO Elks.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Edith Harrell of Green River; one son and daughter-in-law, Toni and Patti Harrell of Green River; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jeff Maxwell of Coppell, Texas; four brothers, nine sisters, five grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

A memorial service was conducted yesterday at the First Baptist Church of Green River with Rev. Dave Heintzleman officiating.

Twila Maureen Moffitt

Twila Maureen Moffitt, 98, Green River, died April 26 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

She was born April 11, 1906, in Sunnyside, Utah, the daughter of the late Carl and Bertha Broadbent Eklund.

She attended schools in Green River and married Howard Moffitt in Rock Springs in 1923. He preceded her in death in 1981.

She moved to Rochester, Minn., at the age of 76 where she cared for her great-grandson while her granddaughter interned,

Her interests included reading, geology, cooking and playing games. She enjoyed NBA basketball and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Carla Pershin of Green River and Deann Galants and husband George of Westlake Village, Calif.; two granddaughters, DeAnn Pershin of Green River and Dawn Kliarsky of Saint George, Utah; and one great-grandson, Jordan Kliarsky of Las Vegas.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Rudy Pershin; one grandson and one sister, Florence Eklund.

Graveside services and interment will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Riverview cemetery.

Martin Tyler

Martin Tyler, 79, Thermopolis, died April 22 at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Green River, the son of the late Martin B. and Clara Belle Edwards Tyler. He attended schools in Pinedale and joined the U.S. Nave where he served as a gunner's mate on the USS Conflict during World War II.

He married Clarice Deyon Adams in 1946 and they lived in Olympia, Wash., where he worked as a carpenter for 17 years. They returned to Granger and operated the church Bar for the next 35 years.

During that time, he served as mayor of Granter for 10 years.

He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed writing poetry and rock hunting.

Survivors include his wife of Thermopolis; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Shelly Tyler of Thermopolis; three daughters and sons-in-law, June and Kirk Schumacher of Rock Springs, Carol and Doug Rimer and Susana and Gary Muller, all of Evanston; two sisters, Clara Branson of Green River and Helen Stout of Rock Springs; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Red and Kenneth Tyler, and one sister, Ruth Stout.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends is scheduled May 8 at 1 p.m. at the Farson Community Center.
