Margie Vavra-High
1924-2006
Margie Vavra-High, 81, died Jan. 31 at United Medical Center-West.
She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Dix, Neb.
She married
Jim High on July 12, 2003.
Margie graduated from Atkinson High School in 1942. She taught school for a number of years in Kimball County. She married
Jerry Vavra in Kimball on March 14, 1946. She and her husband farmed for 17 years. She also was a beautician and worked in the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs. On Nov. 13, 2002, Margie's kidneys failed, and she spent the rest of her life on dialysis. Margie belonged to First Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and deacon. She also was a Moonbeam Club member, actively involved with family, church and community.
Mrs. High is survived by her husband, Jim High of Cheyenne; daughters, Mary and Herman Barrett of Cheyenne, and Helen and Greg Entzian of China; son-in-law, Bob Lonsdale of Kimball; grandchildren, Chauncey Junior and Karma Coxbill of Milo, Iowa, Stacy Lonsdale and Amanda Lonsdale, both of Burns, Brannan Lonsdale of Hays, Kan., Jeremie and Amber Barrett of Burns, Kyle Barrett of Cheyenne, Misti Barrett of Cheyenne, Melissa and Doug Mulford of Grand Junction, Colo., Bethany Entzian and Rachel Entzian, both of Springfield, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Ruger Barrett of Burns, Sadie Barrett of Burns and Nevaeh Mulford of Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Vavra; a daughter, Geraldine Lonsdale; and her parents, Chauncey and L. Mae Coxbill.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Garrard.
Pallbearers will be Bob Lonsdale, Herman Barrett, Greg Entzian, Jeremie Barrett, Brannan Lonsdale and Kyle Barrett.
Opal A. Kelly
1926-2006
Opal A. Kelly, 79, of Cameron, N.C., died Jan. 30 in Sanford, N.C.
She was born Sept. 25, 1926.
She was a long-time resident of Cheyenne.
Ms. Kelly was a retired licensed vocational nurse.
She is survived by five children, Penny Laverdure of Cameron, Geary Baker of Royal, Ark., Chuck Baker and Terry Lamont, both of Cheyenne, and Kevin Woods of Riverside, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place through Highland Funeral Service.
Private services will be held.
Amador R. Nava
1942-2006
Amador Robert (Bob) Nava, 63, of Cheyenne passed away on Feb. 1 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 20, 1942, to Norbert and Gloria Nava in Cheyenne. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962, after which he returned to Cheyenne where he worked for Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power Company for 30 years. From 1980 to 1981, he was the exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 660, for which he was an honorary lifetime member.
He was an active member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and its local chapter, the Oak Spokes.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Nava and wife, Jody, of Sarasota, Fla., and John Nava and wife, Marie, of Cheyenne; a daughter, Diane Rieger and husband, Daniel, of Cheyenne; two grandsons, Justus and Nathaniel Rieger, both of Cheyenne; a brother, Leonard Nava and wife, Esther, of Wheatland; and two sisters, Debbie Sena of Cheyenne and Sherry Scudder and husband, Larry, of Sturgis, S.D.
His parents, Norbert and Gloria Nava, and sisters, Barbara Ann Nava and Veronica Trujillo, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel.
A Rosary service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Church with Father Tom Cronkleton officiating.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church with Father Tom Cronkleton officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Carns, Art Lucero, Joe Colvin, Rob Morris, Dan Deshany and Sam Martinez with honorary pallbearers Jim Clark, Phillip Upchurch, and grandsons Justus and Nathaniel Rieger.
interment will be at Olivet cemetery.
Ivan W. Hasenauer
1942-2006
Ivan W. Hasenauer, 61, of Cheyenne died in his home Jan. 30, 2006.
Mr. Hasenauer was born Feb. 1, 1944, in North Platte, Neb. He was raised on a farm.
At the age of 24 he went to fight in the Vietnam War. When he returned, he married
his first wife, Shirley Krepsic. They had three children and later divorced. In 1978, Ivan married
his second wife, Jane Jasper, and three children were born of this marriage. They divorced in 1988 and he never remarried
.
Ivan was a truck driver most of his life. He was very handy and could do just about anything. Ivan loved to collect things. He collected model tractors, watches, belt buckles, coins, key chains and Avon, among other things. He kept his collections displayed nicely.
Mr. Hasenauer was a member of Cheyenne Berean Church, VFW Post 1881 and the American Legion Post 6.
He is survived by his children, Tara, Phillip, Paul, Trudy, Doug, Hayley, Lorie, Joy and Rick; his brothers, Ike, Charles and Herman; his sisters, Barbara, Betty, Bertha and Beulah; his step-mother, Mabel; and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Vina Ann; an infant son, Steven; a brother, David; and an infant sister, LaVina.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at the Cheyenne Berean Church with the Rev. Richard Crocker officiating. Interment will be in Beth El cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Ike Hasenauer, Charles Hasenauer, Herman Hasenauer, Richard Hasenauer, Ralph Hasenauer, Art Hasenauer, Howard Hasenauer and Moses Hasenauer.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
Marlys M. Giesler
1933-2006
Marlys M. Giesler, 72, of Cheyenne died Feb. 2 at Cheyenne Health Care Center.
She was born April 29, 1933, in Medina, N.D.
She was a manager for Mini Mart for 18 years and retired in 1998.
She enjoyed needlework and crafts.
She is survived by two brothers , Dennis Giesler of Wheatland and Conrad Giesler of Boise, Idaho; a sister , Eileen Aultman of Carrington, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Inez Giesler.
Cremation will take place at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory.
Services will be in Carrington, N.D., with burial in Bismarck, N.D., at a later date.
Thomas E. Tanfield
1928-2006
Thomas E. Tanfield, 77, of Cheyenne, died Feb. 1 at Cheyenne Healthcare.
Mr. Tanfield was born April 28, 1928, in Hanna where he was active in football and basketball. After graduation he worked in the Hanna Coal Mines with his father.
He moved to Rawlins where he worked for Carbon County Memorial Hospital and Pamida.
Mr. Tanfield met his wife, Joy, on New Year's Eve and they were married
April 24, 1982, in Rawlins.
Tom and Joy moved to Cheyenne in December 1989 where Tom started working for Safeway. Tom had planned to retire in April after 17 years of service.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge of Cheyenne. He enjoyed bowling on the Moose Mixed and Elks Leagues, fishing, the outdoors and just loved being around people, friends, and family.
Mr. Tanfield is survived by his wife, Joy; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Crystal Tanfield of Casper and their children, Leighton, Joshua, and Amandah and her husband, Mike and their child, Liberty; daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Jim Logan of Rawlins and their children, Kassie and J.P., son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Cheryl Tanfield of Montana and their children, Michael, Matthew, Kristin, Kelsey, and Marcus; a daughter, Diane Tanfield of Glenburnie, Md., and her children, Ben and Brad; granddaughter, Kerri Thrasher and her daughter, Bailey; grandson, Jeff Thrasher; sisters, Carolyn and Lucille and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Tanfield; brothers, Jack Jones and Claud Waits; sister, Myrtle Jennings and step-son, Wayne Thrasher.
A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Moose Lodge, 1019 South Greeley Highway.

Willard L. Martens
1944-2006
Willard Lee Martens, known by many as "Marty," 61, of Cheyenne went to be with God on Feb. 2 at United Medical Center-West.
He died from complications resulting from cancer and was surrounded by his family.
Marty's life began in Dallas, Ore., Feb. 12, 1944, where he was raised by his German Mennonite parents, Abe and Helen Martens. Being one of five boys, he soon learned the importance of family and God. In high school, he lettered in both football and wrestling and was an avid runner, doing marathons. Later, his family moved to California where he attended Fresno Pacific College until he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne, earning the rank of sergeant.
Here he met his wife of 40 years, Bonnie (Grubb) Martens. After Marty received an honorable discharge they moved back to California where he served in the Army National Guard. He then completed his education at California Baptist College in Riverside, where he earned a double degree in bible and psychology. While at college, Marty worked as a security officer for the school and shortly after graduation moved to Fresno where he worked as a corrections officer at the Fresno County Jail for 21 years.
During this time he was active in the Jail's Union and participated in many recreational activities with his five children. He was a coach for the San Joaquin Soccer Association for boys and girls and a coordinator for many tournaments.
After retiring from the jail in 1999, he moved his family back to Cheyenne, where he continued in the area of corrections at Community Alternative Center of Cheyenne. Then, for a short time, he worked as security for the Holiday Inn.
Marty's favorite and most fulfilling career moves came toward the end of his life when he worked with and for the clients and staff and Magic City Enterprises. He enjoyed his role as coach and representative at the Special Olympics and delighted in seeing his clients participate.
He was a loving husband, caring father and a great friend to those who knew him. His life was an example of strength and determination and he always gave what he could to his family and those who needed it.
Marty is survived by his wife, Bonnie Martens; his children, Staff Sgt. Marten "Marty Jr." and Ariel Martens of Vincennes, Ind., Mynda and Ken Camphouse, Micah Martens, Mead Martens, Mason and Kirsten Martens, all of Cheyenne; his brothers, Eldon Martens, Raymond Martens, Richard Martens and Donald Martens, all of Fresno, Calif.; granddaughters, Riana Martens and Evelyn Camphouse; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Evelyn Martens; and in-laws, Glenn and Betty Grubb.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eldon Martens, Raymond Martens, Richard Martens and Donald Martens.
Donations in Marty's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Special Olympics.
Catherine C. Perfitt
1919-2006
Catherine C. "Cae" Perfitt, 86, of Cheyenne died March 9 at United Medical Center - West.
She was born Dec. 4, 1919 in Los Angeles and had lived here for 44 years.
Mrs. Perfitt was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Chapter Z of PEO, Alpha Delta Pi, Bible Buddies and Music Study Club.
She is survived by a son, Abner Gordon Long of Pine Bluffs; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lucy and Richard Russell and Betty Perfitt, all of Cheyenne; eight grandchildren, Jamie and Nick Spezzano of Cheyenne, Jason and Becka Perfitt of Billings, Mont., Rachael Eastman of Laramie, Josh and Deanna Eastman of Laramie, Mary Catherine Russell of Laramie, Heather Eastman and Garrett Dodson of Laramie, Andrea and Matt Jennings of Cheyenne and Chris Russell of Cheyenne; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Perfitt and Katelynn Perfitt, both of Billings, and Daniel Abbott of Cheyenne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Lt. Col. John C. Perfitt on March 26, 2000, and two sisters, Betty Hillman and Doris Kelly.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Garrard officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Logan National cemetery in Denver.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Friends may contribute to Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Elmer E. Foust
1920-2006
Elmer E. "Pete" Foust, 85 of Cheyenne, died March 4 at Kindred Hospital in Denver.
Mr. Foust was born Oct. 30, 1920. He had been in Colorado for the past month but was a resident of Cheyenne since 1938.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a former scout master.
He is survived by three sons, Peter Foust of Laramie, Mark Foust of Bailey, Colo., and Matthew Foust of Las Vegas; three daughters, Mary Foster of Laramie, and Teresa Foust and Patricia Foust, both of Denver; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Foust was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen A. Foust; his parents, Joseph and Mary Foust; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Mass will be 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Moss as the celebrant. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.

James Cain
1937-2006
James "Jim" Cain, 68, of Casper died March 8 in Cheyenne.
He was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Greeley, Colo.
He married
Mary Anderson in on Aug. 23, 1959, in San Diego, Calif.
He served in the U. S. Navy from 1953 to 1957.
Jim was a retired Cheyenne restaurant owner.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Jim enjoyed car shows, hunting, fishing, and, most of all, his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Mary Cain of Casper; a son, Chris Cain of Casper; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Shawn Murphy of Fort Collins, Colo. and Debra and Lance Conner of Cheyenne; three brothers, Harvey Cain and Bill Cain, both of Cheyenne and Jitter Cain of Wheatland; four sisters, Doris Clark of Wheatland, Aggie VanWay of Wheatland, Gloria "Punkie" Oglesby and Prency Zepeba, both of Cheyenne; and three grandchildren, Heather Harrison of Fort Collins, Josh Conner and Zac Conner, both of Cheyenne.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, James LeRoy Cain Jr.; his parents, Elmer and Gloria Cain; and a sister, Nancy Cain.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Creative Ministries, 600 E. Carlson, west entrance, with Pastor Jason Britton officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
