Brett M. Wagner
1986-2005
Brett Mitchell Wagner, 19, passed away Dec. 1 in Cheyenne. He had lived here most of his life.
He was born Feb. 1, 1986, in Laramie.
As a little boy, Brett loved the outdoors, his Hot Wheels cars, and loved being a cowboy. His best buddies were his brothers, Beau and Blair. He loved spending time with his Grandpa and Grandma "Tractor", his Uncle Donnie and Aunt Diana, and also with his Uncle De and Aunt Dolores at their cabin in the mountains. He was also a talented young man when it came to art. His drawings and sketches were unique and his talents were untapped. If he didn't put his name on his homework, the teachers still knew whose paper it was because of the doodles he'd always seem to somehow work onto the page before turning it in.
Brett started his elementary education in Wheatland, and after the family moved to Cheyenne, he attended Gilchrist and Anderson elementary schools. He then went on to Carey Junior High and graduated as a proud Cheyenne East High Thunderbird in May 2004.
Brett loved sports - whatever season it was, that was his focus and passion. Several summers were spent golfing with his brothers, and sometimes he spent more time on the course than off. He played baseball for the Cheyenne Junior League, and was known to both his friends and their parents as "Hollywood." He also played basketball, and one of his favorite memories was being a member of the "Nightmare" traveling team
Even though Brett excelled in every sport, football was his true love. He started his football career as a Nebraska Cornhusker for the YMCA. He continued at Carey Junior High, and finally at East High. During his high school years, he played many positions for the T-Birds. He and his classmates were the first incoming class to play for Coach Schroff, a man he both respected and admired.
Brett attended church at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where his mother is a member.
At the time of his death, he lived in Laramie and had most recently been employed at the University of Wyoming.
He is survived by his parents - his mother, BJ Wagner, and his "dad", Jeff Ayers, both of Cheyenne; his brothers, Beau Michael and Blair Matthew, of Laramie; his "brothers" Jeremiah Cuccia and Tommy Hanrahan; his father, Richard Wagner, of Casper; his grandparents, Gertie Strauch, of Ault, Colo., Willie Domson and Larry Webber of Torrington; Aunt Dolores and Uncle De Wagner of Ault; Uncle Donnie and Aunt Diana Strauch of Eaton, Colo.; Aunt Cindy Winget of Lingle, and Uncle Rusty Winget of Torrington; cousins Kenny and Linda McClure of Laramie, Chad McClure of Greeley, Colo., Tucker Winget of Torrington and Katie Winget of Laramie; and numerous great-aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ed Strauch; and his cousin, Jake McClure.
Honorary pallbearers are his brothers, Beau and Blair; "brothers" Jeremiah Cuccia and Tommy Hanrahan; cousin Chad McClure; Johnny Coonts; Jake Smith; the Harris brothers, Matt and Trevor; Brian Graham; Nick Osborne; cousin Tucker Winget; and Greg Lovelett
