Cecil W. McLaury

1933-2004

Cecil Wilbourne "Sonny" McLaury, 71, of Long Beach, Calif., died at 6:55 p.m. Aug. 7 at Hillcrest Care Center in the presence of his family members.

He was born June 14, 1933, in Clovis, N.M., and was raised in Texas. He lived for 26 years in Cheyenne and then moved to Campwood, Texas, for five years before moving to Long Beach, where he resided for 2« years.

He served with the Air Force in the Korean War; he retired after 11 years of service from 1952 to 1963. He worked on the Minuteman Missile sites in Nebraska and was also a carpenter and mechanic. His hobbies were leather crafts, hunting big game, fishing and camping. He read his Bible every night before bedtime. His favorite actor was John Wayne.

He was a direct descendent of Tom and Frank McLaury, who died at the shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hall McLaury of Long Beach, whom he married June 15, 2002; a daughter, Mildred Allen Jeffers of Wooster, Ohio; four sons, Cecil Warren McLaury of West Virginia, Paul Carl McLaury of Cheyenne, Lonnie Cecil McLaury of Cheyenne and Shawn Lee McLaury of Santa Anna, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Esther Marie Lewis of Cheyenne, Elsie Avelyn Bettege of Knoxville, Tenn., and Shirley Helen Rose of Cheyenne; 12 grandchildren, Nichole Jeffers, Aaron Jeffers, Brittney Strickler, Cheyenne Strickler, Robert Duwayne Strickler, Jacob McLaury, Mandy Sanchez, Amber Leeper, Joshua Robey, Elsie McLaury, Paul McLaury and Tanisha McLaury; nine stepgrandchildren, Peaches Marie Tyrrell, Duwayne Jr. Lewis, Brandy Loshaw, Jeannie Spraker, Kenneth Spraker, Susan Spraker, Andy Vehar, Bobby Vehar and Michelle Rose; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Sanchez, Autumn Leeper and Timothy Leeper; nine stepgreat-grandchildren, Brandon Tyrrell, Dallas Tyrrell, Tristan Tyrrell, Aundrea Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Trey Lewis, Shaydon Spraker, Storm Gilmore and Alex Spraker; two brothers, David Lee McLaury of Texas and Charles McLaury of Texas; and three sisters, Evelyn Harless for Arkansas, Opal Sieting of Texas and Billie Rabalais of Texas.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Elsie Allen Grothe Kranz McLaury on June 18, 1986, and Patricia Yvonne Kelly McLaury on Oct. 13, 2002; three stepchildren, William Robert Kranz, Delores Kranz Batson and Gladys Kranz Younger; his father, Cecil Waldo McLaury; and mother, Mildred Mavis McLaury.

His last words were, "I am going to miss you all very much."

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1111 E. 22nd St.

Pallbearers for urn will be Shawn McLaury and Brian Schneider.

Cremation has taken place at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary in Long Beach.

Charles L. Davis

1918-2004

Charles L. Davis, 85, of Cheyenne died Aug. 22 at United Medical Center-West.

He was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Grover, Colo., and had lived here for more than 60 years.

Mr. Davis served in the Army-Air Force in World War II.

He worked for Cheyenne Street and Alley Department, managed Bob's Bar and Redwood Bar and was a heavy-equipment operator for Simon construction.

Mr. Davis was a member of Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1881, American Legion Post No. 6, and American Bowling Congress. He was a Cheyenne Frontier Days buckle winner. He was a Golden Glove boxer, nicknamed "White Hope," and he loved to gamble. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Union and Bartenders Union.

He is survived by four sons, three daughters-in-law, a daughter and a son-in-law, Chuck and Laurie Davis of Anaheim, Calif., Jolene and Tim Williamson of Hoehne, Colo., Terry and Trisha Triplett of Cheyenne, Neal and Cynthia Davis of Cheyenne and Curt Davis of Cheyenne; a sister-in-law, Beth Davis of Arizona; six grandchildren, Nicky Davis of California, Jade and JoLynn Newman of Laramie, Katie Rae Williamson of Hoehne, Taran Triplett of Cheyenne, Austin Davis of Oregon and Logan Davis of Cheyenne; a niece, Barb Davis of Cheyenne; five great-nieces, Jennifer Davis, Anna Davis, Sarah Davis, Mary Davis and Grace Davis, all of Cheyenne; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. Davis; his parents, Charles and Zelpha Davis; three brothers, Dean, Red and Vern Davis; a sister, Lovie; and nephew, Ted Davis.

A celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. today at American Legion Post No. 6.

Friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society.

Deborah K. Howshar

1954-2004

Deborah Karen Howshar, 50, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Cheyenne, died Aug. 24 at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver of cancer.

She was born Feb. 22, 1954, in England to Billy Palmertree and Vi Toney.

She attended high school at NaHa High School in Okinawa. She earned an associates degree from Laramie County Community College in 1984 and graduated in 1991 from Regis University with a bachelor's in nursing.

She was a nurse at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver.

She married David R. Howshar on May 27, 1989, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne.

She is survived by her husband, David R. Howshar of Aurora; a son, Michael David Toney Howshar of Aurora; and a sister, Cheryl Stanczyk of Virginia.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Parker, Colo., with the Revs. Don Brownstein and James Klein officiating. Cremation will follow.

A rosary service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Ave Maria Catholic Church.

Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Donald R. Wells

1951-2004

Donald Ray "Don" Wells, 53, of Cheyenne graduated to heaven and went into the loving presence of Jesus on Aug. 23 at United Medical Center-West.

He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a loving, kind and generous man who would do anything for anyone. He reflected his love for Jesus in his everyday life. He will be deeply missed for now, and we anticipate our reunion in heaven.

He was born Aug. 2, 1951, in Orange, Calif., and had lived here for 11 years.

Mr. Wells served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He was building maintenance manager for the Postal Service from 1978 to 1999.

Mr. Wells was a member of Creative Ministries Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4343, American Legion Post No. 6, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his loving family.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Jason Brittain officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.

Friends may contribute to the Gideons or to a charity of their choice.

Doris L. Boltz

1923-2004

Doris Lavelle Boltz, 81, of Cheyenne died Aug. 25 in Cheyenne.

She was born June 20, 1923, in Drummond, Idaho, and lived here since June 1947.

Mrs. Boltz's hobbies included gardening, doll collecting and fishing.

She is survived by three sons , David Boltz, Paul Boltz and George Boltz; a daughter, Cheryl Ocheskey; a brother , Darrell Newcomb of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Boltz was preceded in death by her husband, Edward G. Boltz, on May 19, 1980; and her parents, Dell and Henrietta Newcomb.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to charities of their choice.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Walter Haggerty

1928-2004

Walter "Bruce" Haggerty, 76, of Glendo, formerly of Wheatland, died Aug. 26 at the Poplar Living Center in Casper.

He was born July 11, 1928, in Midwest, the son of Walter David and Velme Ilene (Baker) Haggerty. He was raised and educated in Wheatland.

He joined the Army in February 1951 and was discharged in January 1953. He served in a tank unit during the Korean conflict.

On Nov. 22, 1955, he married Nancy Joyce Hanks in Wheatland.

Mr. Haggerty worked for an area rancher and farmed for himself in Wheatland. In 1972, he moved with his family to Glendo. There, he continued to work at ranches, including the Christensen Ranches, and he also worked for the Neosho Construction Company.

He was a life member of the John Prince American Legion Post No. 15, and was also a member of the Over the Hill Gang band. He enjoyed the outdoors, horses, dogs, and playing his guitar.

He is survived by four daughters, Judy Marshall of Mitchell, Neb., Debbie Wedlock of Fort Collins, Colo., Gail Coziahr and Sanda Engling, both of Glendo; a brother, Charles Haggerty of Glendo; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy on June 11, 1991; his parents; and a granddaughter.

A graveside service and interment will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Horseshoe cemetery in Glendo. Jim Wilson will officiate.

John Prince of American Legion Post No. 15 will accord military honors.

Pallbearers will be Todd Dysart, Jim Eller, Bruce Eller, Scott VanBuskirk, Toby Gruwell, John Daly, Gene Davis and Gene Daly.

Friends may contribute to the John Prince American Legion Post No. 15 or to the Glendo Volunteer Fire Department.

Gorman Funeral Home, Converse Chapel of Douglas, is in charge of arrangements.

David E. Ivins

1919-2004

David E. Ivins, 84, a longtime Cheyenne resident, died of natural causes Sept. 3 at Life Care Center in Littleton, Colo.

He was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Sault St. Marie, Mich., to Clarence and Bessie (Bump) Ivins.

He attended North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, from 1940-1942 and the University of California-Berkeley from 1946-1948.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked as a traffic manager for a transportation company.

He married Leah Golden Ivins on Oct. 30, 1971, in Cheyenne.

He is survived by three stepdaughters, Leila Reister of Littleton, Colo., Jahna Groh of Rock Springs and Dawn Gunther of West Lin, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 7, 1994.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Fort Logan National cemetery in Denver.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Dove Society and Rundus Funeral Home, (303) 460-1414.

Eva M. Bryant

1917-2004

Eva M. Bryant, 87, of Cheyenne died Sept. 5 in Cheyenne.

She was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Loveland, Colo., and had lived here since 1945.

Mrs. Bryant was a member of First Christian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Westerfield of Aurora, Ill., and Pam Lehmann of Cheyenne; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jerry R. Bryant on Sept. 28, 1999; and her parents, Harrison and Maude Barr.

Family and friends will gather for worship and words of comfort in her memory at 11 a.m. today at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. R.O. Boche officiating.

Floyd C. Hecock

1930-2004

Floyd C. Hecock, 74, of Cheyenne died Sept. 9 in Fort Collins, Colo.

He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Scranton, N.D., and had lived here since 1970.

Mr. Hecock had retired as a salesman for Frito Lay.

He was a member of First Congregational Church and Eagles No. 128.

Mr. Hecock is survived by a daughter, Kathy Marty of Maynard, Minn.; three brothers, Merlin Hecock of Butte, Mont., Dale Hecock of Stanford, Mont., and Clair Hecock of Three Forks, Mont.; a sister, Beverly Chester of California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Hecock, on April 21, 1999; a son, Jerry Hecock; and his parents, Roland and Pearl Hecock.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. J.D. Megason officiating.

Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to the American Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Gloria J. Pack

1943-2004

Gloria J. Pack, 60, a former Cheyenne resident, died at her home Aug. 11 in Battletown, Ky.

She was born Oct. 17, 1943., in Louisville, Ky.

She worked many years for the city of Cheyenne. She was a founding member of the Cheyenne Girls Softball Association.

She is survived by her husband, Don Pack, and her mother, Aline Harrington, both of Kentucky; and her family in Cheyenne.

Private funeral services were held Aug. 17 under the direction of Hager Funeral Home.
