Nancy Anest

1930-2002

Nancy A. Anest, 71, of Cheyenne died here Jan. 31.

She was born July 25, 1930, in Cheyenne.

She married Nick J. Anest here Sept. 6, 1953.

Mrs. Anest was the assistant director for Community Action. She was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen and served as part of the Philoptochos.

She is survived by her husband, Nick J. Anest; a daughter, Cynthia Matson of Phoenix; her parents, Harry and Helen Helzer of Cheyenne; a sister, Jeanette Ahrens of Cheyenne; and two granddaughters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greek Orthodox Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen with Father Louis Christopoulos, Father Gabriel Nicholas, Fr. Peter Harrison, Father Dean Talagan and Father Constandinos Pavlakos officiating.

Trisagion will be 7 p.m. Monday at Schrader Chapel.

Burial will be in Beth El cemetery.

Edith Maud Carson

1918-2002

Edith Maud “Edie” Carson, 83, of Cheyenne died here Jan. 28.

She was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, and had lived in Cheyenne for 52 years.

Mrs. Carson was a backer for the shoe industry until 1949, when she moved to the United States to become a homemaker.

She was a member of the Cheyenne English Club for more than 50 years. She made ammunition for the British military during World War II and later served in NAAFI.

Mrs. Carson is survived by three sisters, Elsie Blanchflower, Lillian Wakefield and Gertrude Mason, all of Norwich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee I. Carson; her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Marshall; an infant brother, Johnnathon; a brother, Albert Marshall; and two sisters, May Palmer and Ellen Bailie.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. David Stratton officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to United Medical Center Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Willard Gosvener

1930-2002

Willard “Bill” Gosvener, 71, of Cheyenne died Jan. 31 at United Medical Center-West.

He was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Hinesville, Ark., and had lived in Wyoming since he was 10 years old.

Mr. Gosvener was a heavy equipment operator and a volunteer for Senior Companions.

He is survived by a brother, Millard Gosvener of Cheyenne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Annis Gosvener, and a daughter.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Victor Grimm

1927-2002

Victor L. Grimm, 74, of Cheyenne died here Jan. 31.

He was born March 24, 1927, in Paola, Kan., and had lived here since 1959 with prior residence in Denver.

Mr. Grimm was a civil engineer for the Federal Highway Administration for 39 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts of America and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Mr. Grimm is survived by three sons, Ronald Grimm of Houston, Brian Grimm of Cheyenne and Darrin Grimm White Plains, N.Y.; a daughter, Stephanie “Missy” Grimm of Cheyenne; a brother, Paul Grimm of Littleton, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Greta Grimm, on Sept. 12, 1992; and his parents, Paul and Rebekkah Grimm.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. David Caspersen officiating.

Interment will be at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to Trinity Lutheran Church, Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society.

Donald F. Murray

1929-2002

Donald F. Murray died May 29, 2002 in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was born in Cheyenne on May 27, 1929, the son of Edward and Mae Murray.

He graduated from New Mexico Military Institute and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Wyoming. While attending the University of Wyoming, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Mr. Murray married Barbara McDonald on October 26, 1957 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Mr. Murray was in the insurance and real estate industry for over 40 years as a partner at Ed Murray & Sons. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Security First Savings & Loan. Mr. Murray was also a past member of the Cheyenne Rotary Club, Newcomen Society of the United States, Knights of Columbus, Laramie County Library Board of Directors, Trustee of St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Mary’s School Board, Wyoming Realtor’s associations and various insurance associations.

Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara McDonald Murray, daughters Mary Murray Broadbent of Atlanta, Georgia and Donna Ann Murray of Cheyenne. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Lauren Nicole Humphrey of Cheyenne, Mary Katherine Broadbent and Grace Anna Broadbent of Atlanta, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Patrick Murray and Daniel Edward Murray, parents Ed and Mae Murray, and brothers William M. Murray and Edward F. “Ned” Murray.

Funeral liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Bishop Joseph Hart will be the principal celebrant. Interment will be in Olivet cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Lynch, Tim Lynch, Pat Lynch, Scott Riggs, John Roedel and John Bogus. Honorary pallbearers will be all his golfing partners and his friends.

Friends may contribute to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, United Medical Center Foundation, St. Mary’s Cathedral or the Catholic Diocese of Cheyenne. Addresses may be obtained from Schrader Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.

George M. Esquibel

1953-2002

George M. Esquibel, 48, of Cheyenne died May 29 at United Medical Center.

He was born in Fairbanks, Ala., and lived in Cheyenne most of his life.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #6. He worked in construction most his life.

Mr. Esquibel is survived by his parents, Mary and Ruben Esquibel, Jr.; his brothers, Frank Esquibel and Ruben Esquibel III, all of Cheyenne, Thomas Esquibel of Phoenix, Ariz., Lyle Esquibel of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Nickole of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and six nieces and seven nephews.

Arrangements for the memorial service are pending.

Mary L. DeBruyn

Mary Lou DeBruyn, 67, of Sidney, Neb., died May 29 at Memorial Health Center.

She was born on June 9, 1934 in Rawlins, the daughter of Pete and Mary (Ackerson) Thomas.

She was raised and attended school in Albin.

She married Donald DeBruyn on Nov. 16, 1952 in Albin.

She enjoyed her family, bingo and playing cards.

Mrs. DeBruyn is survived by her son, Daniel DeBruyn of Pine Bluffs; her daughter, Deanna Kantor of Sidney; a brother, Joe Ed Thomas of Montrose, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1990; her sons, Donald in 1991 and Leslie in 1956; and one granddaughter, Katie Jo DeBruyn in 1976.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. MondayJune 3 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Sidney with the Rev. Richard Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Albin cemetery in Albin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 29 at the Baptist Church in Pine Bluffs, 5th and Pine St.

Friends may contribute to American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Friends may call at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Melvin Ross Cox

1932-2002

Melvin Ross Cox, 69, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with Carcinoid Cancer. He was born November 27, 1932, in Bauer, Utah, to George Francis and Jessie Eliza Fox Cox. He married Shirley Sadler on March 7, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple and during their married life resided in Centerville, Price, and Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Melvin grew up in the Tooele, Utah, area and attended Granite and West High Schools in Salt Lake City, Utah. Melvin worked at Union Pacific Railroad for 13 years and as a Master Electrician for 40 years (IBEW Local 354). He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many positions including five years service in the Manti Utah Temple with his wife. Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He served as President of the Centerville Jaycees and was involved in politics. Melvin felt his greatest accomplishment was his family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Pleasant Grove, and five children: Bonnie Hardy of Cheyenne Wyoming, Sherilen Clark, Leslie Hatch, Ross Cox, and Melanie Harper, 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos LDS Stake Center, 800 North 100 West Pleasant Grove Utah. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove City cemetery.

Fred C. Diehl

1935-2002

Fred C. Diehl, 67, a former Cheyenne resident, died Aug. 14 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Mr. Diehl was bron July 24, 1935, in North Platte, Neb., the son of Everett and Ernestine Coon Diehl.

He graduated from Cozad High School in 1953. He attended the University of Northern Colorado before going on to serve in the United States Army for two years. While in the Army he played basketball for the All-Army team.

Mr. Diehl was a teacher and coach in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and California. He also worked for Union Pacific in Cheyenne for 10 years.

He retired from the school district in Calexico, Calif., in 1997 due to health reasons. He received a liver transplant in November 2000. He and his wife, Kay, moved to Harker Heights, Texas, in April 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Hermansen Diehl of Harker Heights; sons, Douglas Diehl of Casper, Dr. Tony Diehl of Rapid City, S.D., and David Diehl of Austin; a daughter, Kristi Baty of Flagstaff, Ariz.; stepsons, Brian Hoenig of Harker Heights, Mark Hoenig of Cheyenne and Richard Hoenig of Adrian, Mich.; his father, Everett Diehl of Loveland, Colo.; brothers, Dennis Diehl of Farmington, N.M., and Duane Diehl of Omaha, Neb.; and 13 grandchildren.

Gene E. Reher

1930-2002

Gene Ellis Reher, 72, of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming died Sept. 7 at United Medical Center-West.

He was born May 9, 1930 in Pine Bluffs and had lived there most of his life.

Mr. Reher was a member of Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church.

He was a farmer and policeman in Pine Bluffs.

Mr. Reher is survived by his wife, Elsie Reher of Pine Bluffs whom he married Nov. 12, 1950 in Kimball, Neb.; a son, Gary Reher of Swanville, Minn.; a daughter, Donna Noel of Martin, S.D.; three brothers, Alfred Reher and Leonard Reher both of Pine Bluffs, and Leland Reher of Omaha, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Theresa Reher; two brothers, Virgil Reher and Harold Reher and a sister, Catherine Colbert.

Graveside services for the interment of the urn will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Bluffs cemetery with the Rev. Terilynn Russ officiating.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends may contribute to Pine Bluffs Ambulance Service.

Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Mary Golden Stump

1910 – 2002

Mary Golden Stump of St. Louis died Aug. 27 in St. Louis.

She was born Oct. 20, 1910, at Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of the late Harry Llewellyn Griffith and Abbie Helen Grannis Griffith.

“Goldie,” as she was affectionately known by her family and many friends, is survived by a brother, Harold Griffith of Elkader, Iowa; sons Craig Llewellyn Stump and his wife Faith of Ridgecrest, Calif., Dr. Donald V. Stump and his wife Dr. Eleonore Stump of St. Louis, and Lori (Mrs. Kenneth) Hess of Montana, widow of Gene Stump; grandchildren, Leslie Alison True and husband Randy True of Cheyenne, Cindy Lynelle Daugherty and husband Michael Daugherty of Cheyenne, Michael Robert Stump and wife Elizabeth Ann of Castro Valley, Calif., Aaron, Nathan and Monica Stump of St. Louis, and Joshua Stump of Montana; great-grandchildren, Savannah Rose Clayton of Cheyenne, Daniel Llewellyn and Dierdre Ann Daugherty of Cheyenne, and Edward William Stump of Castro Valley, Calif.

Mary Golden was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Byron Stump, whom she married Sept. 5, 1936; one son, Eugene Stump; brothers Homer and David Griffith; and a sister, Helen.

Mary Golden and her late husband were long-time residents of Cheyenne, residing here during the 1950s and 1960s before retiring to Sun City, Ariz. Following Dr. Stumps’ death at Sun City on Sept. 7, 1984, she moved to reside close to her son Donald Stump and his family.

She died peacefully in her sleep at age 91, having received the Sacraments of the Church and having enjoyed the love and companionship of many in her family who gathered around her in her final days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 4 at St. Francis Xavier College Church, Grand Boulevard at Lindell in St. Louis.

Interment took place at Park Lawn cemetery.

Donna M. Bates

1934-2002

Donna May Bates, 68, of Windsor, Colo., died Oct. 8 at her home.

She was born May 16, 1934, in Windsor to Jake and Mollie (Bechtholdt) Strauch.

She married William J. Bates on Dec. 21, 1962. He died Aug. 12, 1981.

Mrs. Bates was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Windsor.

She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1952. She moved to Windsor in 1971. She worked for 16 years as a bus driver for the Windsor School District.

She enjoyed driving her routes, especially driving the athletic field trips. She was an avid Broncos fan and enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete in youth sports.

She is survived by three sons, Joey Bates and Tony Bates, both of Windsor, and Dan Bates of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Nikki Schmidt of Windsor; her mother, Mollie Strauch of Cheyenne; a brother, Marv Strauch of Cheyenne; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her father.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Faith United Church of Christ in Windsor. Interment will be in Lakeview cemetery in Windsor.
