Royal Jensen Bischoff
Dec. 1, 1913 - Sept. 5, 2003
Royal, Jensen Bischoff died Sept. 5, 2003. Mr. Bischoff was born on Dec. 1, 1913, In Lovell, the youngest child born to Robert John Bischoff and Rose Ann Jensen. He was born in the Benchview Farm home, outside of Lovell, and enjoyed the country and being outside, a trait that lasted almost 90 years.
When he was five years old, his beloved mother Rose Ann died in the flu epidemic.
Royal enjoyed a passion for sports of all kinds, but his love during his growing years was with the roundball. He excelled in basketball and was all-state in this sport during his high school years. After his graduation he went to Brigham Young University with the intention of playing basketball; when that didn`t materialize, he packed up his ball and came home to be around his cheerleader and high school sweetheart, Ruth Allphin.
On June 11, 1936, Royal and Ruth Allphin were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and moved back to Lovell. They first lived in Deaver and farmed with Burns McLemore on what Ruth claimed was Rattlesnake Flats. They later moved to the Lovell area and farmed and lived in the "Old Dobie," a one room adobe house where most people saw Royal as he nursed his famous corn on the corner. During this time he drove truck and did whatever it took to get him closer to his own farm and love of life.
He was called into the service of his country and left Ruth with their three boys. He received his honorable discharge and returned to the Lovell area, picked up his family from the town and purchased a farm on the east part of Lovell in the Sunlight district. The farm was mostly sagebrush and a small log house on it which Ruth promptly turned into a home.
Royal and Ruth sold their farm and purchased the place close to his own heart, Benchview Farm, from his sister and her husband when they retired and moved to town. He loved to irrigate and was a master at the job. He went on an LDS mission with his wife to Paris, Tenn., and thus completed the circle of his own brothers and sisters as each one of them honored their parents by serving a mission.
He had a passion for fishing. One of his self-appointed callings while living on the farm was to catch and fillet enough for the entire Second Ward each fall; of course this was after elk season had closed. Royal and Ruth always had an open house for the friends of their family as they came to enjoy the outdoors.
He is survived by his three sons, Gary (Dolores), Kenneth (Maris) and Michael (Sylvia); and his three daughters, Karen (Ray), Margaret (Dennis) and Janet (Blaine); and many grandchildren.
