Karen Sue (Beyer) Judy
CASPER — Karen Sue (Beyer) Judy, 49, died July 1, 2007.
She was born Sept. 11, 1957 in Worland, the daughter of Kenneth Willard and Shirley May (Hunt) Beyer.
On March 26, 1983 she married Samuel N. Judy of Casper.
She was preceded in death by her father; a sister-in-law, Roberta Judy and her mother-in-law, Mary Alice Judy.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Rachel of Casper; mother and stepfather, Bill Howrey of Worland; sister Kay and nephews Jacob French of Worland and Levi French of Casper; brother, Ross (Kelly) Beyer and their sons Kenny, Jordan, Brook, Christian and Parker of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Thomas (Kristi) Beyer of Lincoln; father-in-law Norlyn (Sam) Judy of Casper and a brother-in-law, Tom Judy of Rawlins.
Pastor Jack Olsen will conduct memorial services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be sent to Cornerstone Church, 4100 Casper Mountain Road, Casper, WY 82601, or central Wyoming Hospice, 319 South Wilson, Casper, WY 82601.
They may also be left at Bustard’s Funeral Home and Crematory, which was in charge of the arrangements.
Grace Gorst
WORLAND — Grace Gorst, 90, Worland resident, died on July 1, 2007 at the Worland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 2, 1917 in Worland, the only child of Clyde and Lulu Belle (Robertson) Shirk. Her grandfather, C.F. Robertson, was a founder of the town of Worland and its first mayor.
She married Richard W. Gorst on November 24, 1935 at her parent’s home in Worland. They lived on the family farm on Washakie Ten until 1994, when they moved to Worland a few months before Mr. Gorst’s death.
She was a cook at East Side Elementary School in Worland for almost 20 years. After she retired, she and her husband traveled in their motor home thru Canada, Alaska, Mexico and most of the United States. She was a graduate of Washakie County High School in Worland and attended the Worland Methodist Church. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, East Side Club, Worthy Matron of Cloud Peak Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Guardian of Job’s Daughters and a 4H leader.
She is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Margaret and Douglas Gibson of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jean and Robert Paris of Worland; Carol and David Super of Burke, Virginia; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place, a private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Helen M. (Lambert) Etchemendy
GREYBULL — Long-time Big Horn County area resident, Helen M. (Lambert) Etchemendy, 85, passed away early Sunday morning, July 8, 2007.
Helen was born in Long Pine, Neb. on Aug. 3, 1921. She was the daughter of Kiah and Letha Lambert of Springview, Neb. In 1937 the family moved to Manderson where Helen graduated from high school in 1947.
She married Don Alexander in 1940, and they moved to California. They later divorced and Helen returned to Wyoming. She married Laurent Etchemendy in 1947.
Helen worked for Probst Western Store for a couple of years before going to work for the CB&Q Railroad for 24 years, retiring in 1982.
Helen loved to cook, fish, tend to her garden and camp in the Bighorn Mountains. Her five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.
She was an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary for over 60 years, serving the majority of them as the president of the Widows Club that went to dinner every Tuesday night, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greybull.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Laurent in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter Kay (Nick) Fleek of Greybull; son Roger (Carolyn) Alexander of Salem, Ore.; five grandsons, Shane and Bill Catlin, Roger Jr. and Adam Alaxander; step-granddaughter, Jenney Fleek; sisters Miriam Carr of Springview, Neb. And Maureen Baecher of Lynwood, Calif; brother Max Lambert of Ontario, Calif.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion and Pete Collingwood of Greybull.
A viewing will be held at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Thursday, July 12, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 2 p.m.
Pastor Michael McMillan will be officiating at the services. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Greybull. Immediately following the burial, please join Helen’s family at the Elks BPOE Lodge #1431 in Greybull for a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be received at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426. Proceeds will go to the St. Joseph’s Children’s Home located in Torrington.

John W. “Jack” Gilmore
BASIN — Laneville, Texas and former Big Horn Basin resident, John W. “Jack” Gilmore, 81, passed away Tuesday, July 3, in Tyler, Texas.
Jack was born on July 31, 1925 in Basin. He was the son of Robert J. and Anna (Roe) Gilmore.
He received his schooling in Basin and graduated form Basin High School. He lived most of his life in the Big Horn Basin.
The last year and one-half he spent in Laneville, Texas with his daughter, Tamara (Gary) Jackson and granddaughter Jade.
He was married to Mildred Alice Lowe until her death in 1981. He later married Frieda Kaiser.
Jack was a retired master electrician for Dresser Minerals. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
He loved the outdoors, reading books, dancing, playing the fiddle and spending time with his family.
Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church in Basin. He was also a member of the V.F.W., the fraternal order of the Eagles and the Odd Fellows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anna Gilmore; his brothers, Robert, Ed, Bud (Ivan), Bert and Bill Gilmore; his sister, Ruby Stanley; his wives, Alice and Frieda Gilmore and his son Walter Gilmore.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Edith Jensen of Riverton and Tamara (Gary) Jackson of Laneville, John Gilmore, Jr. of Riverton; his brother, Daniel (Joan) Gilmore of Livermore, Calif.; his sister, Betty Ann (Leland) Morris of Basin; five grandchildren and step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and step grandchildren.
A viewing was held at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin on Monday, July 9 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and also today 10 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Graveside funeral services will be held today, July 10, 2007, 10 a.m. at the Mount View Cemetery in Basin with Leland Morris officiating at the services followed by full military graveside rites. Burial will take place immediately following the services.

Steven Lyle Hall
WORLAND — Steven Lyle Hall, 51, of Worland, passed away at Meadowlark Lake Campground on July 6, 2007.
Steven was born on Feb. 20, 1956 in Rawlins to Norma Jean (Kape) and Lyle Hall and spent most of his life in Wyoming. He graduated from Worland High School in 1974. He then spent four years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Steven then moved to Torrington, attended the Jr. College and graduated with a degree in mechanics.
He worked for the sugar factory for the next 22 years, and was employed recently by Washakie County. Steven was a member of the American Legion.
He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. He was a talented woodcrafter and enjoyed restoring old vehicles; he was a very gifted mechanic. Steven loved helping with the 4-H program and being with friends and family, he also enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his beloved Fiancé Carla Nolen and children; his daughter Jessica Hall and his parents Lyle and Joyce Hall of Worland; two brothers Kenneth Hall of Worland; Kevin (Sali) Hall of Basin, WY; sister Jeri (Gary) Gallentine of Northglenn, Colo.; step brothers Marvin (Deanna) Phillips and Rick Phillips of Worland, step sister Vicki (Jerry) Lewis of Casper.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Bryant Funeral Home. His cremains will have a resting place on his mother’s grave at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Oline Charlot Shryack
WORLAND — Oline Charlot Shryack of Worland died Monday July 9, 2007 at Washakie Medical Center in Worland at age 80.
Oline was born in Monday, Texas on June 16, 1927, the daughter of James and Mae Belle (Messick) Gilbreath. She was raised and schooled in Texas.
She married Kenneth Keith Muse on Nov. 7, 1947 in Seagraves, Texas. The couple owned and operated restaurants in Seagraves; Hobbs, N.M.; and at Cortez, Colo. They moved to Worland in 1961 where they operated a ranch on the Gooseberry Creek west of Worland. They had many happy years together on the ranch until Kenneth’s death on July 19, 1973.
Following her husband’s death, Oline moved into Worland where she worked for the CO-OP Store for several years. Later, she became an Avon Representative and sold Avon products for twenty-eight years. Her customers were some of her dearest friends.
On Sept.19, 1977 she married Fred Shryack in Las Vegas, Nev. They had many happy years’ together fishing, camping, playing cards, and enjoying their children and grandchildren.
She was a collector of ceramic birds, bells, spoons and Mrs. Albie dolls. She was know for her hospitality and delicious cooking, and always had plenty to share.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a son-in-law Mark Schnieder and a stepdaughter Nathella Shryack. Also preceding her were six brothers and six sisters.
Oline is survived by her husband Fred Shryack of Worland; her son Van Muse of Worland; her daughters Debbie (Bob) Staley of Worland and Laquita (Dale) Redmer of Fargo, N.D.; her stepchildren Shauna Schneider and Steve (Teryl) Shryack of Worland, and Carla (Harry) Capser of Joliet, Mont. She is also survived by her 16 cherished grandchildren who called her “Mema.”
The funeral for Oline will be held on Thursday July 12 at 2 p.m. at the Veile Mortuary Chapel in Worland. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

Leonard Matt Nelson
WORLAND — Leonard Matt Nelson, 79, of Puyallup, Wash, passed away, Thursday, April 12, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born March 10, 1928 in Manderson, to Albert and Martha Nelson, Big Horn Basin pioneers.
A retired Hydraulic Engineer with the Water Resource Division of the U. S. Geological Survey, he began his career in Worland’s Branch of Quality of Water, after serving in the U. S. Army, during World War II and graduating from the University of Wyoming.
In 1965, Leonard transferred to Tacoma, Wash. and retired there in 1987. He served as the chief in over 20 separate investigations of streams throughout Washington. In 1964 he wrote an essay on “How to Write a Report for the Water Resource Division” in an attempt to improve public information and establish the Division’s future guidelines. Leonard’s skills and expertise were called upon in May 1980 when Mount St. Helens erupted. He established and operated a number of sediment stations on streams impacted by the eruption.
Known amongst his friends and family as an expert “handyman”, able to fix or build anything, he was constantly busy helping other people, but did find time for gardening, golf and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arthur “Bud” Nelson.
He is survived by his daughter, Carmalen (Gill) Gillilan of Las Vegas, Nev., and his two sons, Jeffrey Tyrone (Margaret) Nelson and Max Wayne (Gayle) Nelson both of Puyallup, Wash. He leaves many loving relatives and friends including his long time companion, Joan Colgate and her daughters; and his siblings, Elmer Nelson, Dorothy Sinn, Bert (Jack) Seaman all of Worland, Sally Maurer of Pocatello, Ida., Alvin (Carol) Nelson of Cheyenne and Agnes Webb of Eagan, Minn.; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
All who knew and loved him will dearly miss him.
Services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 10 a.m. graveside at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland. Rev. Ralph Partelow of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate at the service. Memorials may be made to: “Nathan Adelson Hospice”, 4141 Swenson Street, Las Vegas, NV 89119.

Bertha Iva Williams
BASIN — Bertha Iva Williams passed from this life on Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Big Horn Basin Retirement Home in Basin at the age of 90.
Bertha was born on Jan. 12, 1917 in Louis, Okla. to Georgia Valentine Huff Murray and Noble Wesley Murray. She grew up in the Goodwill, Okla. area. She married W. T. Williams on April 19, 1938 in Hollis, Texas.
After graduation, she attended Decatur Baptist College in Decatur, Texas and received a Degree of Associate in Science in May of 1955. She then attended the North Texas State Teacher’s College from 1956 through 1957 in Denton, Texas. She also attended the Hardin-Simmons University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree (Magna Cum Laude) majoring in English and Education in 1957 in Abilene, Texas. She was just nine hours shy of receiving her master’s degree.
Bertha taught seventh and eighth grade English at Anson, Texas Elementary School from 1957 through 1962. One of the pupils in her class was the former country western singer, Jeanie C. Riley who became famous for her album “Harper Valley P.T.A.” In 1967 and 1968, she and her husband operated a drive in grocery store, much like today’s convenience stores. She was the activities director at the nursing home in Wellington from 1976 to 1977 and also enjoyed working for two local florists as well. In 1997, Bertha moved to Worland to be closer to her daughter, Susie.
Bertha loved poetry and wrote many wonderful verses. Her book, “God Gave Me a Poem” was published in 1965. She wrote many other unpublished poems as well. She was a devoted mother and found great joy in all of her family. She loved to read and she enjoyed traveling. Every time that anyone in the family had a birthday or anniversary, they received a card from her filled with loving thought and thought-out wisdom gleaned from God’s word. Her relationship with God through Jesus Christ, her Savior, was the center of her life and her family and friends celebrate her going home to heaven to live with Him eternally and look forward to seeing her again one day in that Heavenly Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Farrell and her son-in-law, Howard Culp.
She is survived by her children Wendall (Barbara) Thomas Williams of Sweetwater, Texas and Celia Lon “Susie” Culp of Worland; sister, Edna Lois Cudd and brother: George Talmage Murray; Grandchildren: Kendal (Kim) Kent, Karen Kedziora, Tanya (Robert) Terry, Kim (Scott) Bartholomaus, Cindy (Steve) Kristek, Craig (Barbara) Edwards, Jason (Janet) Edwards and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on 2 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Wyoming Retirement Center Chapel with Pastor Al Gebauer officiating.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Wellington, Texas. Memorials may be made to American Bible Society to send Bibles to soldiers serving abroad in care of Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.

Rebecca Julie “Becky” Skretteberg
WORLAND — Rebecca Julie “Becky” Skretteberg of Worland passed away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Mont, on July 7, 2007 at the age of 35.
She was born on May 10, 1972 in Rock Springs, the daughter of Daniel P. and Priscilla Rose (Gonzales) Garcia. Becky moved with her family to Worland in 1973, and to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1980. She returned to Worland in 1992, and married Mike Skretteberg in 1993. They later divorced.
She had worked as a data entry tech for the Utah State Dept. of Revenue, for United Parcel Service in Laramie, and in Worland she had worked as a clerk at Janet’s Boutique and the Family Dollar Store.
Becky was a member of the New Life Christian Center. She loved to sing and had sung solos and in the choir at Mount Calvary Fellowship Church where she had also worked as a youth sponsor and counselor. Becky also liked to write poetry and songs, to do hand crafts, and enjoyed watching videos on TV.
Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother to her children.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Becky is survived by her parents of Worland; her twin sons Neko and Nesho Skretteberg, another son Michael Skretteberg Jr., and her daughter Shantell Rose Garcia all of Worland. She also is survived by her brother Danny G. Garcia Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah., and her sisters Candy R. (Bob) Matthiesen of Worland and Tina Garcia of Casper.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Veile Mortuary Chapel, and the casket will also be open at the church on Saturday from noon to service time.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Worland with Pastor Joe Sanchez of Brighton, Colo. officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.
As a final gift, her family allowed her major body organs to be donated to save the lives of others.
In the words of the organ recovery team, they declared to her family that, “She was a hero to the other people who received the gifts.”
