Marva Kay (Davis) Peterson

SNOHOMISH, Wash. — Former Ten Sleep resident Marva Kay (Davis) Peterson, 53, Aug. 14, 2006 in a vehicle accident on Steven’s Pass, Wash., as she was returning home from a camping trip at Lake Chelan.

Marva was born in Worland on March 20, 1953, the oldest daughter of Marvin and Dorothy Davis. She was soon joined by two little sisters, Shirley and Sheila.

She grew up in Ten Sleep on the family ranch and enjoyed helping with the work activities, like feeding cows, swathing hay and trailing cows when she wasn’t busy ice skating on the homemade ice rink, studying for school, playing the piano, and, believe it or not, digging worms for the Davis sister’s worm business. They even earned enough to buy a few bicycles, new carpet for the living room and their very first television.

Marva attended Ten Sleep schools. She was active in basketball, band and chorus and was co-editor of the school year book – a prelude to her scrapbooking days. She even marched in the parade, playing her clarinet, at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. She graduated as the valedictorian of her class.

Marva graduated from Northwest Community College in Powell and went on to Eastern Montana College in Billings, Mont. where she graduated with honors.

She married Joel Peterson on Sept. 13, 1975 in Ten Sleep. They spent two years in Bozeman, Mont. before moving to Everett, Wash. in 1978 and later to Snohomish. Their sons, Brian and Aaron were the light of her life. They spent lots of time camping and taking the boys to various sports activities, especially soccer, where she was able to see the two boys play together on the Snohomish soccer team when they won the Washington State Championship – one of many proud moments in her life as “Mom.”

Marva had been employed by the Monroe School District for a number of years, but her personal passions included golf, skiing, camping, stamping, scrapbooking and was recently learning to play the banjo. Marva had a great group of friends and family that joined her in her life’s adventure and will always remember her love for life, her beautiful smile and her gentle soul.

Survivors include her husband, Joel; her sons, Brian of Lynwood, Wash. and Aaron of Bozeman, Mont.; parents, Marvin and Dorothy Davis of Ten Sleep; sisters, Shirley (Ron) Beydler of Spokane Valley, Wash. and Sheila (Don) Beydler of Otis Orchard, Wash.; three nieces, one nephew and one great-nephew.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Kelly in an outdoor service at the family home on Aug. 20. Burial followed in the Snohomish cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Marva’s name to the organization of the donor’s choosing.
