John Ernest Nevismal

WORLAND — John Ernest Nevismal, 43, of Worland, died Monday, April 24, 2006 in Cody.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1963 in Muncie, Ind. He was raised and schooled in Muncie. After completing his education, he took a job as a truck driver and mechanic for a carnival. He traveled all over the United States, and in some foreign countries, working with various carnivals.

John moved to Worland in 1994 to be near his mother. In 1999, he moved to Florida, then back to Muncie. Poor health necessitated moving back to Worland, in July 2005, and in Jan. he moved to Cody in order to take dialysis treatments.

His hobbies included working on cars, guns, building models, fishing and hunting.

John is survived by his mother Sheila Nevismal, of Worland; a brother, John Lindsey of Federal Way, Wash.; his sisters, Evelyn Hofstetter of Geneva, Ind. and Jo Biagi of Berne, Ind.

Cremation will take place, and the cremains will be returned to Indiana this summer for burial in the family plot.

Richard L. Hartley

WORLAND — Richard L. Hartley, 89, of Worland, died on April 23, 2006 at Worland Healthcare and Rehab Center.

Richard was born on April 18, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio to George William and Clara Amanda (Rykken) Hartley, while his father was briefly stationed there with the railroad. The family soon returned to Melstone, Mont. where he was raised and attended school. In 1932, the family moved to Billings, Mont. Dick then attended Billings Senior High School, graduating in 1934.

Dick then worked for a dairy and various other jobs before going to work for Empire Heating and Cooling in Billings where he installed furnaces, air-conditioners and learned the sheet metal trade.

He married Florence M. Wright in Billings on May 11, 1941. She passed away on March 6, 2003.

During World War II, he worked at several military bases where he did sheet metal work. In 1948, he and his brother, George, moved to Worland to start a branch of Empire Heating and Cooling. He moved his family to Worland in 1949, soon after buying the business. He continued to operate it until selling it to American Heating and Roofing in 1977. After selling the business, he continued to work for his son Rick, who managed the business, for a year.

He was well respected for his quality work and craftsmanship. He had installed duct work in many homes and businesses in the area.

The Hartley’s returned to Billings so that Florence could finish her retirement with the telephone company. In 1983, they returned to Worland and Dick then worked for Dan Arps for a short period before finally retiring.

He and his wife were charter members of the Grace Chapel Community Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, and helped with construction and maintenance throughout the years.
His hobbies included cycling in his younger days, reading the encyclopedia and history books, listening to music, and playing the saxophone at church and in the fun band at the Worland Senior Citizens Center. He also enjoyed boating and water skiing, which he took up after he was 50 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his stepfather, and a brother, Harry.

Dick is survived by his sons, Doug (Ann) Hartley of Battleground, Wash., Gary (Jan) Hartley of LaGrange, Calif., and Rick (Cindy) Hartley of St. Joe, Ariz.; a daughter, Joan (Ward) Byrd of Worland; his brother, George (Diane) Hartley of Worland; his sister, Beatrice Merrill of Casper; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Grace Chapel Community Church with Beau Byrd, former youth pastor of the church, and Dick’s step grandson, officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

The casket will open at the Veile Mortuary on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Grace Chapel Community Church at 1101 Russell Avenue, Worland, WY. 82401.

Veile Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Lovina Iris Miller

THERMOPOLIS — Lovina Iris Miller, 88, of Thermopolis died April 12, 2006 at the Canyon Hills Manor in Thermopolis.

She was born Jan. 1, 1918 in Portland, Ore. to Roy and Grace (Versteeg) Nelson. Lovina graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in Riverside, Calif. in 1935.

Mrs. Miller went to Alaska in 1961, married George Miller, a Wildwood Station employee, in 1962, and left Alaska when her husband retired in 1973.

She enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, gardening and cooking in earlier years and became an avid quilter in later years.

Lovina was widowed three times and was also preceded in death by her sister, La Rene Heatherly, a son, Jerry V. Horn who died in the Vietnam War and one grandson.

She is survived by her companion of 17 years Frank Walling of Thermopolis; a sister, Deane Bruyneel, of Riverside, Calif.; her children, and their spouses, Jane Horn of Medford, Ore.; Ernest Horn of Estacada, Ore.; Joseph (Thelma) Brasseur of Eugene, Ore.; Lea (Keith) Bryan of Juneau, Alaska; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date in Soldotna, Alaska.

The service will be held at VFW Post #10046, 134 North Birch, Soldotna, AK.

Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Robert “Rob” Gene Bonderson

THERMOPOLIS — Robert “Rob” Gene Bonderson, 53, died Feb. 22, 2006 in Carbon County, Mont.

He was born July 31, 1952 in Fargo, N.D., the son of Elmer and Elsa Ann (Lange) Bonderson. Following graduation from Sheyenne High School in N.D., he attended trade school for a year.

He was a carpenter in N.D. and moved to Thermopolis in 1988. He owned the Gizmo for two years then returned to carpentry.

On May 17, 1991, he married Nanette “Nan” Wobbema in Deadwood, S.D. The couple continued to live in Thermopolis.

Rob was a member of the National Rifle Association and Trappers Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trapping and going to the mountains.

His parents and a nephew preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Nan, and stepson, Travis Pahl of Thermopolis; 2 stepsons, Jason and Jamie Bonderson of N.D.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Donny (Yvonne) of Sheyenne, N.D. and Gordon (Sandi) of Moorcroft and two sisters, Ann (Doug) Smith of Sheyenne, N.D. and Rita Jones of Bismarck, N.D.

Mortimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Urbanek Wheeless

WORLAND — Bertha Urbanek Wheeless, 88, died at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on April 26, 2006.

Bertha was born on June 15, 1917, in Taylor, Texas to Frank F. and Theresa Ann (Kaspar) Urbanek. She grew up on a dry land cotton farm, working alongside her four brothers, two sisters and parents. The family moved to Rowena, Texas in 1923 and farmed there for 12 years before moving back to Taylor. Her mother died of complications following childbirth in 1929, and Bertha had to drop out of school in the 8th grade to help her sisters raise her infant brother.

She met her future husband, Chester H. Wheeless, a neighboring farm boy, while in Rowena, and was married in Taylor, in 1936. Chester worked as a carpenter on WPA projects until WWII, when he joined the Army and became a pilot in the US Army Air Corps. Bertha followed her husband from job to job during the 1930’s, living in tents or a small trailer, and remembered it as a hard, but happy time in her life. After WWII, Chester built houses in Fort Worth, TX, until he was recalled by the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He then stayed in the military until retirement in 1970. They retired to Ft. Worth, Texas until Chester’s death in 1997. She then moved to Worland to be near her son. In 2000, she moved to Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she resided until her death.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frank, Leo and Bernie Urbanek; and her sisters, Elsie Kloesel, and Ruth Humphries. She is survived by her son, Chet (Wendy) Wheeless, of Worland; daughter, Carol (Michael) Santoki of Sacramento, Calif.; her brother, Alex (Alma) Urbanek of Taylor, Texas; seven grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, and the friends and staff of Worland Healthcare she considered to be her family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor, Texas. A Prayer Vigil will be heard 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2006. Burial will follow the funeral in the Taylor City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that she, and her love of dogs, be remembered by a donation to the New Hope Humane Society in care of Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bryant Funeral Home in Worland and Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.

Martin B. Russell

WORLAND — Martin B. Russell, 87, Worland resident, passed away June 11, 2006 at the Washakie Medical Center.

Martin was born on March 19, 1919 in Brewer, Maine, the son of Dr. James P. and Mary (Harvell) Russell. Marty was 7 years old when his father drowned in a boating accident. His mother then moved he and his older brother to Boston, Mass. where she taught school and continued to raise her sons.

Marty graduated from English High School (the oldest school in the country at that time) in Boston. He then enrolled in pre-med classes at the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He left school after two years to pursue his love for farming.

Martin married Mary Newnham Maxwell on April 21, 1942. Of this union of 56 years, three children were born. Mary preceded him in death in March of 1998.

After many years of farming and mechanics at his own businesses in Robbinston and Calais, Maine, Martin returned to school at the age of 48 and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from Gorham State College in Gorham, Maine.

He taught Distributive Education in Dexter, Maine and attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. during the summers where he received his Master’s Degree in Education in 1971. Upon graduating, Marty accepted a teaching position at Casper College, where he taught the Plant Maintenance Program for Pacific Power and Light in Glenrock. He then proceeded to initiate the photography program at Casper College in 1974 which flourished into a full time program.

Marty and Mary retired back to Dexter, Maine after teaching and retiring at Casper College for 18 years. In 1996, the couple moved to Worland to be closer to their daughter due to ill health.
Marty was instrumental in developing the Photo Club in Casper and also the Viewfinder’s Photography Club in Worland. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the mountains and being outdoors.

He loved a challenge and always did his best at whatever he did. Marty never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary, and an older sister. Marty is survived by his sons: Charles M. Russell of Boston, Mass.; James (Susan) Russell of Casper; daughter: Mary Ellen (Jerry) Girard of Worland; granddaughters: Cindy (Gary) Craft of Sheridan, Stephanie Shafer of Casper; Grandsons: Chris (Lisa) Wallace of Sheridan and Scott Shafer of Casper; Great-grandchildren: Jamie, Grady, and Levi; Brother: James Russell of Norwood, Mass.; Sister-in-law: Sallie (Roy) Comstock of Calais, Maine; adopted granddaughter: Missy Law of Casper and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Brush officiating. There will be another Memorial Service held in Casper, 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Grace Lutheran Church (315 CY Avenue — corner of CY and Ash) with Pastor Susan Honn officiating. Martin’s ashes will be taken to Robbinston, Maine at a later date.

Memorials can be made to the Worland Senior Center in care of Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmie Key

KAYCEE — Jimmie Key, 72, of Kaycee died Monday evening at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Jimmie Clyde Key was born on Dec. 5, 1933 in Clearmont to Clyde and Cora Key. He grew up in the Kaycee area and graduated from Kaycee High School in 1952. After graduation he joined his father to run Clyde Key and Sons Trucking. He was married on Dec. 25, 1953 in Kaycee to JoAnn Barber and they made their home there. Jimmie later took over management of the trucking company. He was joined by his sons Terry and Tom in 1972 and in 1985 they expanded with the creation of JimCo Trucking. Jimmie semi-retired in 1995 and he and his wife JoAnn moved to Casper and spent winters in Lake Havasue City, Ariz.

Jimmie and JoAnn enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, dancing, making new friends and spending time with family. He will always be known for his sense of humor, practical jokes, his love of life, love of family and love of children of all ages.

He served on the Johnson County School Board, spent two terms as mayor of Kaycee, was on the mental health board, the Wyoming Trucking Assoc., Sheridan/Johnson County R.E.A., Wyoming R.E.A. for one year and was a Johnson County Commissioner. He was a member of the Lions Club, Fraternity of Eagles, Grace Mission Baptist Church in Kaycee and Havasue Bible Fellowship.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George S. “Shorty” Key.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn Key of Casper; two sons, Terry (Carol) Key of Missoula, Mont. and Tom (Marlis) Key of Casper; three sisters, Stella Brock of Kaycee, Mary Jo (Bob) Foreman of Bozeman, Mont. and Dorothy Key of Calif.; one half-brother Walter Key of Gillette; two half-sisters, Diane Done and Katherine Walker; four grandkids, Chris Key of Connecticut, Clay Key of Gillette. Kristin Key of Casper and Kami Key, also of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 16th at 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Danny Davis officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services to follow the funeral. Donations may be made in Mr. Key’s memory to the Grace Mission Baptist Church in Kaycee or the Hoof Prints of the Past Museum in care of the Adams Funeral Home.

Robert Henry Schell

BASIN – Basin resident Robert Henry Schell, 86, died at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri on June 12, 2006.

Bob was born on June 1, 1920 in Alton, Mo to Loren and Lillie Mae Wilcox. He started driving truck at the age of 14 in Kansas City, Mo. to help support his family after his father’s death in a work accident.

He married Emily Beatrice Stewart in Basin on Nov. 15, 1947 and to this union was born two children. Emily passed away on July 18, 1996. Bob drove truck until he finally retired at the age of 80. He was married to Floy Campfield on Jan. 3, 2004, in Winona, Mo.

Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling, fishing, horseback riding and visiting. He never met a person that he couldn’t converse with.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Emily of 47 years; brothers Glenn Joe Schell and Gordon Frank Schell; half-sister, Lillian Gertrude Watkins and half-brother Leamond Shelton.

His is survived by his second wife, Floy Campfield Schell of Winona; sister Jennie Pitcock of West Plains, Mo.; brothers Alfred Lee (Helen) Schell of Kansas City, Boyd (Diane) Schell of Lawrence, Kan.; daughter, Sharon (Ray) Peterson of Casper; son, Laroy (Sherri) Schell of Basin, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his many friends and family in Missouri and Wyoming, especially his sit/visit buddies at Tom’s Café.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Basin Ward. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church in the Relief Society Room. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

David K. “Crockett” Lamont

WORLAND — David K. “Crockett” Lamont, 53, of Worland died at his home on June 13, 2006.

Crockett was born on Nov. 24, 1952 in Powell to Neil and June “Henderson” Lamont. Neil passed away prior to Crockett’s birth and he was raised by June and Art Smith.

He graduated from Greybull High School in 1971. Following graduation, he attended college in Provo, Utah at BYU. He was married to Patti Akin in 1974 in Provo, Utah. To this union was born five children.

In 1974, Crockett and Paul Smith took over Smith Electric and Crockett served as owner and operator until the time of his death.

In 1977, the family moved to Worland. They have many memories of riding horses, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and spending time at the mountain cabin. Patti and Crockett were later divorced.

Crockett was active in the LDS Church where he served in many positions, but his favorite was working with the youth. He also served on the Wyoming State Electrical Board.

Later in life, he found companionship with long time friend, Nancy, and they shared breeding and raising paint horses, hunting, four-wheeling and spending time with family at the cabin in the Big Horn Mountain.

He loved working in his garden and working with his dogs and horses. He also enjoyed spending time with Nancy’s children Jodi and Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Art Smith; son, Kory; brother, Paul Smith; Aunts, Kathleen Lamont and Margaret Earley. He is survived by son’s, Keith (Amber) Lamont of Worland, Keil Lamont of Thermopolis; daughters, Kristi & Kassi Lamont (Drew DeNeui) all of Denver, Colo.; Ryan and Jodi Thiel of Worland; companion, Nancy Thiel of Worland; brothers, Neil (Sylva) Lamont of Sheridan, Burt Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., David Smith of Ely, Nev., Jay Smith of St. George, Utah; sisters: Diane Sandoval of Las Vegas, Nev., Karen Reiger of Ely, Nev., Anna Stebirtz of Greybull; grandchildren: Darien and Tasia.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center in Worland with Bishop Bradley R. Wilde presiding.

Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Friday, June 16th from 5 to 6 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Big Horn Enterprises in Thermopolis in care of Bryant Funeral Home PO Box 524 Worland, WY 82401.
