WESLEY FRANCES REED
Graveside services and interment for Wesley Frances Reed, 80, were held April 7 at Douglas Park Cemetery with Pastor Carl Steinle officiating. Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 conducted military graveside rites.
Mr. Reed had a long illness with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. He died April 2 at his Douglas home. He was born June 20, 1922, in Artesian, S.D., to William T. and Frances E. (Walrath) Reed. In 1942 he joined the Navy and was involved in three invasions. Around 1943, he was sent to the North Atlantic side of North Africa to fight the Germans in the North African Theater. He was a first-class Seaman No. 1 Gunner, and was also the landing craft infantry-battle station lookout. He was shot down in Angeo, Italy. There were 400-500 ships. Mr. Reed often recollected, "You couldn't put a stick in the water off the landing craft without touching a body." The Germans on land were dug in, giving them the advantage. Mr. Reed was hit in the head and through his chest and hospitalized in Oran, Africa, for 11 months. On Aug. 20, 1951, he married Alice Elizabeth Ireton in Casper. He worked at a filling station for a short time and then pipelined for Engineer Limited in Denver for 15 years. He had rheumatic fever twice, once as a child and again in 1954. Around 1959 he went to work in Shirley Basin as a heavy equipment operator before his health failed and he went on military disability. He is survived by his wife Alice Elizabeth Reed of Douglas; children Kenton Reed of Douglas and Shellie Aars of Gillette; brothers Earl Reed of Douglas, Murray Reed of Casper and Ellis Reed of Casper; grandchildren Kim Butts and Jason Reed of Douglas and Charles Wesley Cotton and Brandon Lee Cotton of Gillette; and great-grandchildren Morgan Griffin and Blake Griffin of Meeteetse and Rachael Butts of Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Debera Ann Reed; and brother Richard M. Reed. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Reed, Bruce Reed, Tom Reed, Stanley Reed, Bobby Reed, Danny Reed and Jason Reed. Serving as honorary pallbearers were all his remaining friends and family. KATHLEEN ANN GEIB
A celebration of life for Kathleen Ann Geib, 62, will be held from 1-3 p.m. April 13 at the Community Center in Broadus, Mont. Mrs. Geib died April 4 of natural causes at her Douglas residence. She was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Ridge, Mont., the daughter of Earl and Emmaline (Irish) Malley. She was reared and educated in Ridge and Broadus. In 1967 she married Daniel “Bud” Geib in Belle Fourche, S.D. The couple lived in Alzada, Mont., where they raised their family. Mrs. Geib was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed animals and her grandchildren. She is survived by seven children, Leo R. Malley of Belle Fourche, Janice Marie Malley of Gillette, John Geib and wife Cindy of Douglas, Bradley Geib and wife Anita of Hulett, Wendy Geib of Belle Fourche, Daniel Geib of Belle Fourche and Terry Geib of Douglas; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Daniel “Bud” Geib on May 30, 1990; an infant daughter; a sister; and 10 brothers. BARBARA JEAN (RUSSELL) PETERSON
Family funeral services for Barbara Jean (Russell) Peterson, 77, were held April 5 at Platte Funeral Chapel in Wheatland, with Pastor Martin Strom officiating. Interment followed at Wheatland Cemetery. Mrs. Peterson died April 2 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Wheatland to Alvin and Sarah Russell. She was raised on the family ranch on Cottonwood Creek north of Wheatland, and graduated from Wheatland High School. She attended University of Nebraska for a year and then returned home to help her family after her father died. On June 1, 1946, she married Lee Peterson in Wheatland. The couple moved to Douglas in 1949. Mrs. Peterson’s main interest was her family, and her next love was children. She taught Sunday school and was active as guardian in Job’s Daughters. She was also a den mother for Cub Scouts. She was an Eastern Star member and past-president for PEO. She is survived by her husband Lee Peterson; daughter Judy Lea Wickam of Glendo; son Richard Peterson of Greenwood Village, Colo.; sisters Wilma Russell of Cheyenne and Fay Boyd of Fort Collins, Colo.; brother Cush Russell of Cheyenne; three granddaughters and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Memorials to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, 1732 2 72 West, Billings, Mont., 59106, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Bertha Mae Bullock
Funeral services for Bertha Mae Bullock, 98, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Douglas, with the Rev. Rodney Saunders officiating.
Inurnment will be at Wheatland Cemetery.
Mrs. Bullock died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at her home in Douglas.
She was born May 2, 1901, in Ohiowa, Neb., to Warren F. and Eva (Holland) Medlar. She moved with her family to Mason City, Neb., in 1903, where she received her early education before moving to Kimball, Neb., in 1918, where she graduated from high school.
She married Paul Wilmer Bullock on July 3, 1921, at Kimball. To this union, four children were born. The family resided in Kimball until 1931 when they moved to Scottsbluff. They then moved to Torrington in 1934 and to Wheatland in 1949, where they owned and operated Bullock's Floral Shop, before heading back to Torrington in 1976.
Mrs. Bullock moved to Douglas in 1987 and resided at Irwin Towers until the time of her death. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Federated Women's Club, Past Matrons and P.E.O. Sisterhood.
She is survived by daughter Shirley Dee Haskins and her husband Ray of Douglas; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons Donald Paul Bullock and Richard Jay Bullock; daughter Phyllis Mae Marks; five sisters; two brothers; and two grandchildren.
Memorials to First United Methodist Church in Douglas or the American Cancer Society, in care of Converse County Bank, would be appreciated by the family.

DONALD LEE YORK
Funeral services for Donald Lee York, 79, were held Aug. 10 at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Rev. Chris Limmer officiating. Internment was at Douglas Park Cemetery. Mr. York died Aug. 6, 2004, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Anderson, Mo., to John Earl and Verna Ethel (Thompson) York. As a young boy he moved to Shawnee with his parents because of the coal mining in the area. He received his first year of education in Glenrock and finished at the schools near Shawnee. On June 12, 1927, he married Donna Louise Browning at the Methodist church in Douglas. He worked for the Art Joss and Jack Morton ranches before ranching on Bennett Ranch five miles south of Shawnee for five years. The family then moved to the upper LaPrele to ranch on the Dana Browning Ranch for five years, and in 1957 they began ranching on the McCarthy Ranch, 10 miles east of Douglas, where they worked until the time of Mr. York’s death. Ranching was his employment, hobby and recreation. He was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife Donna of Douglas; children Connie Bower and Butch of Casper, Margie Marler and J.C. of Ottawa, Kan., David Lee York of Farmington, N.M., Sherrie Newton and Charles of Worland, Jeff York of Douglas, and Linda Rhamy and Brace of Douglas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy York of Shawnee; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Grace B. Wintermote; brother Earl H. York; and brother-in-law Lester Wintermote. A memorial to Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. LOUISE M. RANEY
Funeral services for Louise M. Raney, 83, were held Aug. 9 at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Dennis Henderson officiating. Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery. Mrs. Raney died Aug. 3, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County. She was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Norris City, Ill., to William Jefferson and Katie Faye (Coffman) Green. On Oct. 31, 1942, she married M.S. “Bud” Raney Jr. in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of World Alive. She owned and operated the Four Winds Motel for 30 years with her husband. The last eight years she ran the motel by herself, before retiring a year ago. She helped many travelers during this time, particularly traveling clergy or people needing a warm smile, a home-cooked meal or a helping hand. Mrs. Raney helped numerous people by supplying them with temporary work. She had a deep, abiding faith in God that was felt by all who came in contact with her. Her mere presence brought great joy and peace. God was the center of her life, providing her great strength, patience and love. Her generosity helped fund many ministries worldwide as well as local activities and charities. She is survived by her son Vernon Raney; brother Den Green; sister Geri McCrery; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bud on May 25, 1996; son Stephen Raney; daughters Loetta Raney-Hedderman and Faye Raney-McElhannon; sisters Joie Baker and Wilma Riggle; and brothers William Green, Harl Green and Donald Green. Pallbearers were Steve Raney, Joey Raney, Tim Raney, Luke Herrick, Shane Burd, Sterling Heidt and Kelly Engleman. Honorary pallbearer was Den Green. A memorial to Father Hubbard’s Cupboard, P.O. SANDRA ELAINE CAROTHERS
Memorial services for Sandra Elaine Carothers Halstead, 57, of Rock Springs will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs. Inturnment will follow at Douglas Park Cemetery. Mrs. Halstead died Aug. 8, 2004, at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. She was born March 11, 1947, in Douglas to Arthur “Bud” and Dorothy J. Stone Carothers. She attended schools in Douglas. On May 30, 1965, she married Don E. Morris in Douglas, and they later divorced. In October 1977, she married Ron Halstead in Rock Springs. They later divorced. Mrs. Halstead’s interest included her family, especially her kids and grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She is survived by sons Todd Halstead and wife Cindy and Troy Halstead, all of Rock Springs; daughters Terra McCarty, Veronica Foster and husband Donovan and Paige Dhamers and husband Justin, all of Rock Springs; brothers Matt Carothers and wife Suzanne of Sun City, Ariz., and Mike Carothers and wife Ann of Rock Springs; grandchildren Ron and Stephen Halstead, Nikiya, Kayla, and Trista McCarty and Chevy, Jayden and Chase Dhamers; nephews Shaun and Blake Carothers and Brad Carothers; and niece Brenda Carson. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and a sister, Eleanor Larson. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory in Rock Springs. SHELDA LANE (SHEW) MASON
Funeral services for Shelda Lane Mason (formerly Shew), 61, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., were held Aug. 7 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Arizona. Mrs. Mason died Aug. 4, 2004, in Monroe, Mich. She was born in Laramie to George and Faye Anthis. Mrs. Mason was a retired U.S. postal worker. She served in many positions, including postmaster, and was employed in Phoenix, Coolidge and Yuma, Ariz., Douglas, Anchorage and California. She was preceded in death by her son David Alan Olson Jr. and grandson Nicholas David Olson. Mrs. Mason is survived by her husband, Burdette “Bill” Mason; daughters Natalie Kay (John Scott) Springston, Kari Lane (W. Brooks) Neumann, Brenda Aldine (Gary) Rathjen and Mary Kay Goens; grandchildren Beverly Faye Gross, Sydney Lane Neumann, Benjamin Bleu (Carina) Goens and Cody Benjamin Rathjen; sisters Beverly June (Jack) Bronner and Cindy Lou (Gregg) Niwa.
NORMA JEAN (FITZHUGH) SUE
A memorial service was held for Norma Jean Sue (formerly Fitzhugh), 88, of Yuba City, Calif. Mrs. Sue was born in Douglas and was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Sue. Mrs. Sue is survived by her daughter, Sherry McArthur of Hawaii; stepsons Wayne Sue of Live Oak, Calif., and Bob Deter of Canoga Park, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. HAROLD H. LINK
Funeral services for Harold H. Link, 87, were held June 7 at First United Methodist Church in Douglas, with Rev. Dr. Robert D. Firebaugh and Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery. Mr. Link died June 2, 2004, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper. He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in St. Michael, Neb., to Carl W. and Maria (Taylor) Link. He was reared and educated in St. Michael. On June 12, 1938, he married Gertrude M. Sohl in Winslow, Neb. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He supplemented his military income by laundering and ironing his shipmates’ clothing. The extra money was proudly sent home to his wife and baby daughter. In 1948, he and his family moved to Cheyenne where he was a service department manager for Montgomery Wards. He excelled in the position and in 1956 was recruited by Standard Oil Company to serve as a sales representative for eastern and central Wyoming, supervising service stations and bulk plants. In 1964, he bought the Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Douglas and has made his home here ever since. During this timespan, the bulk plant grew from one delivery truck to three tank wagons and nine transports at its peak. Link Oil Company now includes a Tire Division and Fertilizer Division. It is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Mr. Link served on the Colorado/Wyoming Petroleum Marketers Board and was highly regarded by his colleagues for his expertise and experience. He served in many capacities in the Douglas community. He often said that he wanted to “give back” to the community that supported him and helped his business grow. His community service began in 1968, when he served on the Douglas Town Council. He was later elected mayor and, in 1974, was elected Converse County Assessor. He served in many capacities within the Douglas Area Chamber of Commerce, including as president and board member for many years. He was one of the founders of the National Bow Hunt held in Converse County every year. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the chamber in 1978. He and his wife were awarded Business Couple of the Year in 1986. Mr. Link also served on the Converse County Hospital Board for several years. He was a member of the Douglas Lions Club, Masonic Lodge of Casper and First United Methodist Church. As chairman of the church finance committee, he was a driving force in raising the funds to pay off the new addition. He was instrumental in the organization of the Douglas Senior Center. The center, its people and employees were close to his heart. He served on the center board for many years, proud of the center’s continued growth which included senior housing and covered walkways. Mr. Link will be remembered for his love of animals, his gardening abilities, his annual hunting and fishing excursions, the pride he held for his family and his deep love for them, his ability to make friends, and his boundless energy and enthusiasm. He is survived by his daughter Judi and husband Art Van Rensselaer of Casper; sister Kathryn Mumford of Santee, Calif.; grandsons Todd Van Rensselaer of Douglas and Bret Van Rensselaer of Alcova; and special friend Grace Leeling of Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gertrude on April 23, 1996; an infant son; and sisters Helen Tockey and Janette Walden. Pallbearers were Jerry Griffin, Mike Davis, Pat Kant, Bob Keeler, Kelly Anderson and Ben Ramos. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Ortega, Ron McNare, Bill Larsen, Dean Smylie, Con Cooper, Terry McCullough, Dave Sundquist, Bud Rex, Amanda Keeler and Alexandra Keeler.
