Rebecca A. Marin
1950 - 2007
Rebecca A. Marin, 56, of Pine Bluffs died on Jan. 6, 2007, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
She married Isidro Marin on April 16, 1976, in Cheyenne. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs.
Rebecca was a teacher's aide at Pine Bluffs Daycare.
Mrs. Marin is survived by her husband; her son, Francisco Marin of Pine Bluffs; her daughter, Maria Shores of Torrington; her parents, Joe and Emma Ornelas of Pine Bluffs; her brothers, Greg Ornelas of Pine Bluffs and Martin Ornelas of Oregon; her sisters, Rachel Lipska and Elizabeth Steege, both of Pine Bluffs; and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her sister Priscilla Grace.
A Vigil for the Deceased will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
The funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs with Father Ray Rodriquez officiating. The burial is in Pine Bluffs Cemetery.
The pall bearers are Terry Steege, LeRoy Lipska, Brandon Popham, Jason Popham, Greg Ornelas and Martin Ornelas.
Friends can contribute to Pine Bluffs Ambulance Fund.
Services are arranged by Schrader Funeral Home.

Andrew Shassetz
1946 - 2007
Andrew "George" Shassetz, 60, of Cheyenne died Jan. 5 in Cheyenne.
He was born Sept. 27, 1946, in Cheyenne and had lived here all of his life.
George graduated from Central High School in 1965 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion where he served on the Honor Guard Team.
He is survived by a son, Eric Shassetz of Cheyenne; a daughter, Stacy Edeburn of Indian Hills, Colo.; two grandsons, Christopher Rivera and Nicholas Shassetz both of Cheyenne; an uncle and aunt, Ken and Katie Adams of Kingman, Ariz.; and a cousin and his wife, Keith and Marty Adams of Kingman.
Mr. Shassetz was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ann Shassetz and a brother, Larry Shassetz.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beth El Cemetery with Rev. Dan Thoemke officiating.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Honorary casket bearers are the American Legion Honor Guard members.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

John R. Souders
1916 - 2006
John R. Souders, 90, of Cheyenne, died Dec. 16 at Life Care Center of Cheyenne.
John was born May 20, 1916, in Egbert.
John was a farmer, a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and was a member of the Assembly of God church.
He is survived by a stepson, Joseph Sherman of California; one daughter, Cora Reynolds of California and one brother, James Souders of Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Anna (Morris) Souders and three sisters.
A private family graveside service will be held in Pine Bluffs Cemetery, where burial will take place.
Arrangements by Schrader Funeral Home.

Gloria J. Preston
1931 - 2007
Gloria J. Preston, 75, of Cheyenne died Jan. 11 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Cheyenne.
Mrs. Preston was a banker.
She married Bill Preston on Sept. 26, 1954, in Jackson Hole.
She was Protestant. She graduated from Cheyenne High School and loved collecting cookbooks and recipes.
Mrs. Preston is survived by her husband, Bill Preston of Cheyenne; daughters, Michelle “Micki” Reed of Cheyenne and Tami Ryan of Tempe, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Amber Reed of Seattle, Kyler Fairchild of Mesa, Ariz., and Samantha Ryan of Tempe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Leona Bess.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with her family present to receive friends at Schrader Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the family home.
Friends may contribute to the American Lung Association.

Mary E. Weinland
1954 - 2007
Mary E. Weinland, 52, of Cheyenne died Jan. 11 at Davis Hospice Center after a 13 - month struggle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born Nov. 30, 1954, in Spokane, Wash., and had lived in Cheyenne for most of her life.
Mary was a dental assistant for Dr. Giovale for more than 15 years as well as a certified massage therapist.
She married Michael Bush in 1976. They later divorced.
She married Robert Weinland on Oct. 1, 2005, in Cheyenne.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Weinland of Cheyenne; daughters, Jennifer Bush of Jackson and Kellie Bush of Boulder, Colo.; siblings, Aleta Nichols of Cheyenne, Laura Collins of Louisiana, William Reynolds of Wisconsin, Philip Reynolds of Lafayette, Colo., Roger Reynolds and Margaret Reynolds, both of Cheyenne; a stepdaughter, Jessica Maschka of Lincoln, Neb.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Marilyn Reynolds; and brothers, Timothy Reynolds and Jonathan Reynolds.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Mgsr.William Delaney officiating.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Fr. Harold W. Powell
1928 - 2007
Father Harold W. Powell, 78, died Jan. 9.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1928, in Bridgeport, Neb., to Byron and Minnie Powell. His family moved to Cheyenne in 1936. He attended the local grade schools and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1947 then attended Barnes Business School of Denver.
Father Powell was employed by Spear Lumber Co. until he was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He served aboard the U.S.S. English off the coast of Korea and then was transferred to the U.S.S. Willard Keith in the Atlantic Fleet. The Keith was on stand - by duty when the S.S. Enterprise sank off the coast of England.
Upon discharge from active service, he returned to Cheyenne and Spear Lumber Co. In August 1960, he moved to Kansas City, Mo., and was employed by R.L. Sweet Lumber Co., until September 1971. He entered Conception College to study for the priesthood for the Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph. He also studied at the Holy Apostle College in Cromwell, Conn.
He entered The Sacred Heart School of Theology in 1974. He was ordained to the priesthood by the late Bishop John J. Sullivan at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Kansas City. He served at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raytown, Mo., St. Theresa in Parkville, Mo., The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Kansas City, St. Patrick’s in Holden, Mo., with a mission in Urich as his first pastoral, then St. Louis Parish in Kansas City and Nativity Parish in Independence, Mo. His last assignment was at St. Mary’s in Higginsville, Mo.
Due to failing health, he retired on Dec. 25, 1996, and moved to Grain Valley, Mo. He filled in at parishes in Butler, Mo., Odessa, Mo., Higginsville, Lexington, Mo., Richmond, Mo., Clinton, Mo., Nevada, Mo., and Carrolton, Mo., until April 1999. He returned to Cheyenne and filled in at St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Joseph’s, Holy Trinity, Holy Family at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and St. Paul’s in Pine Bluffs.
On Dec. 4, 2002, he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Most Rev. David Ricken was the celebrant, with The Most Rev. Joseph Hart and priests of the Diocese of Cheyenne, Msgr. Henry Bauer and Father Lloyd Opoka of the Diocese of Kansas City n St. Joseph as co - celebrants.
He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Jiacoletti; four nieces and nephews; 10 great - nieces and nephews; and four great - great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Minnie Powell; a sister, V. Jeane White; and a brother, Gale Powell.
Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Bishop Joseph Hart as celebrant and priests of the Diocese of Cheyenne as con - celebrants. Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hall, Ron Lout, Ruben Castaneda, Dave Bair, Sean Sainsbury and Douglas Gasseling.
Military honors will be provided by the 90th Space Wing Honor Guard and by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Friends may contribute to the Seminary Education Fund for the Diocese of Cheyenne or to the Diocese of Kansas City.
