Roy E. Hanson
1921 - 2006
Roy E. Hanson, 85, of Cheyenne, died Nov. 26, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 9, 1921, in Pine Bluffs.
Mr. Hanson grew up in Laramie and had lived here since 1947.
He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1943 with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. He was vice - president of Fitch Electric in Cheyenne until 1967, when he went to work for the city of Cheyenne, where he retired in 1983.
Mr. Hanson was an active member of the Heels, the Jaycees, American Legion Post No. 6, and the Sertoma Club. He also supported the University of Wyoming Athletic Department as a member of the Quarterback Club and the Cowboy Joe Club and was a season ticket holder for 55 years.
He is survived by his wife, Maurine Hanson, whom he married Nov. 13, 1943, in Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon Smith of Lakewood, Colo., and Diane Hanson of Cheyenne; one sister, Vivian Spahr of Rawlins; four grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.
Mr. Hanson was preceded in death by his parents, Roy D. and Mabel Hanson; and two sons, Michael Hanson and Christian Hanson.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melton L. Smith, Jason Smith, Kristin Smith, Chad Morrison and Keri Gillen.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Friends may contribute to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Benjamin Salazar
1929 - 2006
Benjamin Salazar, 76, of Cheyenne, died Nov. 27 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Brighton, Colo., and had lived here since 1945.
Mr. Salazar was an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the GI Forum.
Mr. Salazar is survived by his son, Robert A. “Bob” Salazar of Cheyenne; two daughters, Laura Smyth and Debra Weber, both of Cheyenne; a sister, Mary Valdez of Denver; seven grandchildren; and 16 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Salazar on Feb. 2, 2003; a son, Michael Salazar; his parents, Filimeno and Stella Salazar; four brothers, Frank Salazar, Art Salazar, Joe Salazar and Felix Salazar; and two sisters, Susie Trujillo and Erma Linda Robertson.
A funeral Mass will be 9 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Cathedral with the Rev. Glen Szczechowski as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Olivet Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Scott Casias, Brandon Casias, Aaron Casias, Michael Salazar, Steven Salazar and Christopher Casias.
Honorary pallbearer will be Frank Mata.
David G. Gates
1928 - 2006
David Gilbert Gates, 78, of Cheyenne died Nov. 20 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was born Nov. 3, 1928, to Siphorus and Nettie Gates in Loveland, Colo.
Mr. Gates graduated from Loveland High School in 1947. He went to Colorado A&M on a track scholarship from 1947 to 1951. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
He was in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1953, he received his master’s degree from Colorado A&M and started teaching in Cheyenne.
Mr. Gates married Dona Coleman July 6, 1952.
He was named principal of the newly opened Lebhart School in 1960 and was also principal of Fairview and Deming elementary schools before retiring.
Mr. Gates was a life member of National Education Association, a member of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Contestant Committee, Heels, the Masonic Lodge No. 54 AF&AM, Consistory, Jestus and Shrine, where he was a member of the Indian Unit.
He also served on the board of directors and as past president of the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra. He was the stage manager for many of the Cheyenne Little Theatre’s musicals.
Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, Dona; two sisters, Margaret Wood of Aurora, Colo., and Ruth Dwinelle of Los Alamos, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Dr. Clyde Kauffman officiating.
Private family interment will be at Loveland Burial Park in Loveland.
Masonic Rites will be provided by the Masonic Lodge No. 54 AF&AM.
In lieu of flowers, friends may send contributions to the Shrine Hospital or a charity of their choice.
Colleen Gardner
1945 - 2006
Colleen Gardner 61, died Dec. 2 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Colleen Dahl was born Jan. 17, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, to Stanley Walter and Della (Cottle) Dahl. On March 26, 1965, she married her eternal companion, Earl Gardner, in the Logan, Utah, LDS temple. Five children (Jeff, Deborah, Paul, Annette and Jenette) blessed their marriage.
Nothing was as enjoyable, or more important, to Colleen than her family. She relished in the times when everyone was together and anxiously anticipated the next reunion. She was a loving wife and mother who always supported her family in everything that they did. She never missed a ball game, concert or church activity in which her family was involved.
Later in life, Colleen found her true calling as a grandmother. She had an amazing ability to assure that each of her 13 grandchildren felt as though they were the only one that mattered. Her genuine interest in them and her concern for their happiness and well - being was implicitly known to even the youngest child. She loved being a mother and a grandmother and would talk about her children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen.
Colleen spent her life in the service of others. Her tireless commitment to the needs and feelings of others will be remembered by the many people who received a meal, card, "candy gram," cookie, birthday lunch or phone call at just the right time. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints and faithfully served in many callings over the years, providing countless hours of service.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Gardner of Cheyenne; a brother and sister in - law, Gene and Sandra Dahl of Ogden; children, Jeff (Debbie) of Laramie, Deborah Schwab (Jeff) of Salem, Ore., Paul (Tylynn) of Salt Lake City, Annette Ciminski (Lane) of Eager, Ariz., and Jenette Hoopes (Kirk) of Afton; grandchildren, Adam and Glenn Gardner, Emily and Julie Schwab, Dallin, Bradley and Tyson Gardner, Shane, Justin and Katie Ciminski and Logan, Colton and Allison Hoopes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grand parents.
A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the LDS Lincolnway Chapel with Bishop Thad Brown conducting.
Ruby I. Nidelkoff
1915 - 2006
Ruby I. Nidelkoff, 91, of Cheyenne died Dec. 1 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Benkelman, Neb., and had lived here more than 70 years.
Mrs. Nidelkoff was a waitress at the Trail Café and Restaurant for many years.
She was an avid bowler, great cook and loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Nidelkoff is survived by a son, Dean Nidelkoff of Cheyenne; four grandchildren, Mike Nidelkoff of Cheyenne, Stacey Bittinger of Denver, Lori McCoon of Alaska and Brit Peterson of Washington; seven great - grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren; her goddaughter, Joyce Marchant of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy "Bobby" Nidelkoff on April 24, 2004; a daughter, Nancy Peterson; her parents, John and Minnie Griffith; two brothers, Floyd Griffith and Virgil Griffith; and five sisters, June, Marsha, Merle, Evelyn and Lethel; and a daughter - in - law, Meta Nidelkoff.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wiederspahn - Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Elmer Wilhelm officiating.
Interment will be in Beth El Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Bittinger, Thomas Bittinger, Hans Marchant and Ambrose Aubuchon.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Nidelkoff.
Dora M. Reed
1918 - 2006
Dora Mae Reed, 88, of Lakewood, Colo., died Dec. 2 in Lakewood.
She was born May 2, 1918, in Pine Bluffs.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker.
She married Charles Warren Reed.
Mrs. Reed is survived by sons and daughter - in - laws, Steve Reed and Diana Caldeira of Evergreen, Colo., Jim Reed of Golden, Colo., and Tom Reed and Lori of Evergreen; daughters, Beverly Reed Kahn of Nevada City, Calif., and Linda Reed Frazier and husband, Dean, of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Kahn, Christopher Kahn, Anna Kahn Lane, Jenn Frazier Levenson, Jeff Frazier, Kate Frazier Robertson, David Reed, Terra Reed, Conner Reed and Brian Reed; and seven great - grandchildren, Haley Kahn, Kyle Kahn, Megan Kahn, Matthew Kahn, Molly Lane, Dylan Lane and Sophia Levenson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren Reed; brothers, James Dolan and Thomas Dolan; and sisters, Margaret Dolan, Isabel Dolan Hilton and Elizabeth Dolan Razor.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs with the Rev. Ray Rodriguez officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Bluffs Cemetery.
Friends may contribute to St. Vincent DePaul Society or to a charity of choice.
