Casper L. Ferneti, 63, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence.

Casper was born on July 28, 1940, in Chicopee, Kansas, to Casper and Yolanda (Scaramucci) Ferneti. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Kansas, and graduated from high school there, going on to obtain a Ph. D. in Psychology at the University of Oregon. He married Peggy Ward on December 31, 1977, in Chicopee, Kansas, and their union was blessed with a beloved daughter. Mr. Ferneti worked for many years as a school psychologist, most recently with Sheridan County School District #2 for the past 13 years. He loved working with children and was an advocate for them. Casper was a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and the Wyoming School Psychologist Association. He enjoyed watching old westerns on television, and he was most proud of his daughter Linda.

Mr. Ferneti was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Peggy of Sheridan, and his daughter Linda of Denver, Colorado.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Kane Funeral Home with the Reverend David Duprey officiating. Mr. Ferneti’s cremains will be scattered at the house where he was born and married. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Catherine M. Harker, a long time Sheridan, WY, resident, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at her Sheridan home.

Catherine was born to Pete & Cady (Homan) Melneck in Kansas City, KS.

The family came to Sheridan when she was a young child. She grew up and attended Holy Name School and graduated from Sheridan High School. Catherine married Harry Arnieri in June, 1940, in Sheridan. She worked at Pioneer Pharmacy, Babe’s Flowers, Brouilette’s, and Capital Drug. Harry died in 1971. In 1974, she married Walt Harker in Spokane, WA. Walt died in 1993. Catherine loved volunteering at Holy Name Catholic Church where she was a member. She was also a member of St John Bosco Group and Council of Catholic Women for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family on holidays or even to just watch a ball game on television. She enjoyed gardening as well as food as long as someone else was doing the cooking.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, a brother and an infant daughter.

Catherine is survived by a daughter, Sandy Mills of Scottsdale, AZ; a son, Jim Arnieri of Sheridan; brother Joe Melneck of Sheridan; sister Sherry Rulli of Sheridan; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Vigil service will be 7:00pm on Tuesday (June 15th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 10:00am on Wednesday from Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials may benefit the Donor’s Choice.

Ruth Helmerick, 74, formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Hospice Care Center in Louisville, CO.

Ruth was born on December 27, 1929 in Sheridan, WY to Roger and Alice (Richardson) Rochford. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B. A. Degree and taught school in Douglas, WY. Ruth married Dr. Robert H. Helmerick on June 26, 1954 in Sheridan,

WY and the two raised five children together. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Ruth’s favorite hobby was china painting with her close friends in the Northern Colorado Artist Porcelain and Porcelain Artist Guild. She was a member of Westview Presbyterian Church where she was a past deacon and member of the Deborah Ruth Circle in Longmont, CO.

Mrs. Helmerick was preceded in death by her parents; and her twin sister, Jean Sherman. She is survived by her husband, Robert of Longmont, CO; her two sons, Robert Helmerick and his wife Laura of Cheyenne, WY and James Helmerick and his wife Michelle of Medical Lake, WA; her three daughters, Jean Gorzalka and her husband Michael of Sheridan, Ruth Heald and her husband Thomas of Casper, WY, and Mary Helmerick of Fort Lupton, CO; her nine grandchildren; and her niece Leslie Perkins of Billings, MT.

Funeral services will be held at the Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont, CO at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 with Reverend Bruce McQueen officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 25, 2004 at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Reverend Brian Johnson officiating. Friends may meet at Kane Funeral Home prior to service. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Glen Sheridan Hopkins- An amazing person and a wonderful man has been taken from this earth and another legacy has been left behind. Glen S. Hopkins, who was born in Gillette, WY on August 22, 1942, passed away on June 8, 2004 at 10:03 am (Mountain Standard Time) in Homer, AK. He is survived by his beautiful mother, Noreen Hopkins; his brother, David Hopkins and spouse Verne Hopkins; his daughter Heather Suits and spouse Rex; his son Tyson Hopkins and spouse Lisa; his grandchildren, Sierra Suits, Shania Suits and another expecting grand child from Lisa and Tyson.

With every endeavor Glen strived to give an effort no less than his heart would allow. He was quoted saying “They can measure a man by physical being, but they can not measure a man’s heart. This is why I will succeed.” Glen earned an Eagle-Scout award and graduated from Sheridan High School. He was awarded a four-year athletic/academic scholarship to the University of Wyoming and while participating in football he achieved “All American” status.

After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1967 he started his professional career at Neodata. He retired in 1986 and was hired by North American Fleet Services until his passing.

Glen Hopkins Memorial Services will be held 10:00 am June 19, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, 244 S. Brooks St. in Sheridan, WY with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating.

Ji Keun Kim, age 70, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in the Cancer Institute of America, Tulsa, OK

Mr. Kim was born September 14, 1933, in S. Korea, to One Seek & Ta Tam Kim.

He grew up and graduated high school in S. Korea. Mr. Kim married Keum Soon In on November 14, 1952, in S. Korea. He served in the S. Korean Army during the Korean War. After the war, he farmed and operated a barbershop. They came to Sheridan in 1979 and he worked at a custodian for School District II until he retired in July, 1999. Mr. Kim liked to build things and enjoyed helping his children with their building projects. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Mr. Kim loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Kim is survived by his wife; two sons Young Ki Kim & wife Ae Suk and Joon Kee Kim & wife Sun Ok all of Sheridan; three daughters Young Ae Kim & husband Jong Kook of Los Angeles, CA, Kyung Ae Kim & husband Hyung Bo of Denver, CO, and Myong Ae Handley & Dave of Sheridan; brother Ji Woon Kim of S. Korea; sisters Kil Chun Kim and Kil Soon Kim both of S. Korea; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 12 30pm on Saturday (June 19th) in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Norman Lynn McKinney, 46, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. McKinney was born July 10, 1957 in Sheridan, WY to Warren G. “Mac” and JoAnn (Hardin) McKinney. He grew up and attended Sheridan schools. He graduated from Sheridan College in 1994 where he majored in art.

Mr. McKinney worked for Panetta Brothers, Ideal Painting in Billings, MT, and Grimshaw Construction, and RENEW. He was working for NEO Distribution at the time of his death. He had also been a member of the U. S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed wood carving and spending time in the mountains. Mr. McKinney was a member of First Christian Church in Sheridan.

Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, JoAnn McKinney, of Sheridan; one sister, Faith Keahey, of Sheridan; three nephews, Brook, Cal, and Tony Garretson, all of Sheridan; one niece, Elizabeth DeGolyer, Springville, UT; 9 grand nieces and nephews; an aunt, Josephine Dickens, of Sheridan; and a cousin, Sandy Uhrmann, of Sheridan.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life for Mr. McKinney will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at 1205 Emerson St. in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mr. McKinney may be made to the Sheridan Animal Shelter, 84 East Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY 82801

Ernest Eugene Pence, 78, passed away at his residence in Clearmont, Wyoming on June 27, 2004.

He was born on November 19, 1925 in Sheridan to Ernest and Audra Pence. Eugene ranched all his life at the family ranch near Ulm and later worked for the Faddis-Kennedy Cattle Company at Clearmont until his death.

He loved riding a good horse and taking care of cattle. Driving cattle from the Pin Head Camp at Clearmont to the ranch on Powder River, about a thirty mile ride, was something he looked forward to every year. His dog "Dandy" was his constant companion. Gene was a true cowboy and enjoyed the west the way it was. He loved visiting with people and had a great detailed memory of past experiences. He was a great story teller. Watching the PBR bull riding and rodeos on tv was something he enjoyed but never let get in the way of his work. He enjoyed his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Audra Pence; two sisters, Lois Williams and Norma Pence; and his wife, Corrine. Survivors include his two sisters, Yvonne Lich of Clearmont and Betty Lajeunesse of Gillette; three daughters, Jeanie Verhelst of Lodge Grass, MT, Debbie Kern and Charlotte Porter both of Sheridan; and his six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Pence Ranch, North of Ucross, the roads will be marked.

Ernest M. Robinson, age 60, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in his Sheridan home.

Ernie was born February 2, 1944, in Santa Barbara, CA, to Loshel & Ermeline (Markgraf) Robinson.

He grew up in California and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961. He served in Viet Nam. In the Navy, Ernie was a Sea Bee and worked as a construction mechanic and a diver. He was stationed in Guam, Australia and other places. He retired from the Navy in 1981. He worked for Uniflite, Inc. building boats in N. Carolina for awhile. He moved back to Santa Barbara in 1983. He worked for Western Boat Operators and Griffin Rental Group. Ernie married Monika Brown on July 21, 1984, in Summerland, CA. In 1993, they moved to Sheridan where he worked for Scheckla Trucking and then for Agray’s. Ernie was a member of the NRA and a pistol instructor. He enjoyed the mountains, hunting, fishing, leatherwork, cars, airplanes, shooting, reloading, knife making and collecting belt buckles. He also enjoyed photography and won awards for his photos.

The memories, which Ernie leaves with his loving wife and life partner as well as with his friends, are a monument to his splendid character, which will be reflected in the lives of all that knew him.

Ernie served twenty years in the Navy and the trooper he was led him to die for his country.

Ernie is survived by his wife Monika; sons Ernest Robinson, Jr. of Missouri and Loshel “Robie” Robinson of California; daughter Jaime Robinson of Missouri; step daughter Sabine Schneider of Munich, Germany; brother Loshel Guy Robinson of Santa Barbara, CA; sisters Lorene Rosen, Marlene Voigt and Judy Young of California and Janice Licatesi of Florida; and seven grandchildren.

Vigil service will be 7:00pm on Thursday (June 17th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:00am on Friday from Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church, Story, WY, with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Quiet Rest Cemetery, Story. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mildred Sanchini, 85, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at her residence.

Mrs. Sanchini was born May 1, 1919 in Montdale, PA to John and Alta Calvert. She grew up and attended schools in Montdale graduating from Montdale High School in 1937. She worked in shoe factories and a hearing aid factory before marrying Aldo Sanchini in New York in 1951. They lived in New York before moving back to PA in 1972. Mr. Sanchini died in 1974. Mrs. Sanchini moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1978, and then to Sheridan in 1998.

Mrs. Sanchini enjoyed playing Bingo, knitting, crocketing, spending time with her son, and talking on the phone with her nieces and nephews in PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Carl Calvert of New York; and 4 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Sanchini is survived by 1 son, Fred Birtley, of Greybull, WY; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren; all of PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Mrs. Sanchini’s request, cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held in PA at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Max Small, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the Sheridan VA Medical Center.

Max was born on April 24, 1915 in Kirby, MT to Tom and Josephine (Rondo) Small. He joined the Army in 1940 and served until his honorable discharge in 1945. Max was awarded the Purple Heart while serving his country. In 1957 he married Helen Bosarich in Buffalo, WY. Max worked as a nurses aid at the Sheridan VA Medical Center for twenty seven years.

Mr. Small was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his three brothers, Victor, Ed, and Ivan; and his three sisters, Josephine, Hazel, and Vera. He is survived by his son, Gary Small of Portland, OR; his three daughters, Rose Knight of Lakewood, CO, Mary Ann Jones of Las Vegas, NV, and Barbara Nesbitt of Kansas City; his six brothers, Melvin and John both of Kirby, MT, Ralph of Busby, MT, Clinton of Ashland, MT, and Tuck and Horrace both of Lame Deer, MT; and his four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held prior to the service from 8:00 am until 9:30 am on Monday, June 28, 2004. Family funeral services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 2:00pm with Reverend David Duprey officiating and interment to follow at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
