James L. Patterson, 27, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Lusk, Wyoming.
Mr. Patterson was born on July 1, 1976, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, and was raised by his grandparents, Gilbert and Marie Peltier. Following his school years, he married Patricia Becklund on May 27, 1993, in Casper, WY. For several years, James worked as a foreman. He enjoyed Nascar Racing, with Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson being two of his favorite drivers. He also enjoyed doing mechanical work with his best friends. His children and wife were his life, and he loved spending time with them.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his father Gilbert Peltier, his uncle Larry Murphy, and his Grandpa Murphy. Survivors include his wife Patricia of Sheridan; his two children Nichole and Dylan Patterson of Sheridan; his grandmother Marie Peltier; his mother, Agnes Patterson and stepfather, Juan Avila; his two sisters, Linda Patterson of Chelan, Washington, and CeeCee Silva of Wenatchee, Washington; his God Parents, Donnie and Carol Black; his Great uncle Paul and aunt Ruthann Baker and numerous aunts and uncles including, Mike, Pat, Debbie, Blanche, Linda, and Belinda. We will miss you Big Daddy!
A viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Kane Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Kane Funeral Home with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. A wake will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2004 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with interment to follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Michael’s, North Dakota. Kane Funeral Home is handling the local arrangements, and Gilbertson Funeral Home, Hwy 2 + 19, P.O. Box 632, Devils Lake, N.D., will handle services in North Dakota.

Margaret "Maggie" Peterson, 74, of Story, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2004, at Sheridan Manor after a gallant battle against cancer.
Maggie was born in Chicago and raised in Rice Lake and Chippewa Falls, WI. She graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth, MN and started her career as a Registered Nurse in Duluth. She gained considerable skills and experience in Houston, New York, Denver, and Billings. She joined the staff at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County in 1971 and was instrumental in establishing the Intensive Care Unit, which she managed until her retirement in 1995. She also served on several committees at the hospital. Maggie enjoyed trout fishing, the outdoors, travel, music, gaming in Deadwood and Las Vegas, and of course her many friends and relatives. She was a member of Story Community Church and sang in the choir.
Survivors include her sister Bea and Don Jorgenson of Oshkosh, WI; her brother Clyde of Keno, OR. She was preceded in death by her mother Cora Johnson Peterson of Chippewa Falls and her father John of Story.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004 at Kane Funeral Home with Tim Tromble officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
The family has requested that memorials be made in Maggie’s name to the Story Community Church , the Dog and Cat Shelter or donor’s choice in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan , WY 82801.
Thomas C. Rice, age 75, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan.
He was born August 2, 1928, in Sauk County, Wisconsin, to John & Kathryn (Benton) Rice.
Tom grew up and attended schools in Loretta and Reedsburg, WI. He served in the U.S. Navy. Tom married Marilyn Wright on June 22, 1950, in LaCrosse, WI. He lived in many places as he worked as an equipment operator on road construction. He retired in 1984. Tom settled in Sheridan in 1994. He enjoyed talking to people, woodworking, making furniture and was an avid reader.
Tom was preceded in death by a daughter Kayleen Arnett; grandson Brian Arnett; brother Mike Rice; and two sisters Pat Arttus and Loraine Vaughan.
Tom is survived by his son Daniel of Greybull, WY; two daughters Ruth Giertych of Gillette, WY and Wanda Burton of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial service will be 10:00am on Thursday (May 20th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
George W. Rudolph, 91, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 in Sheridan Manor.
Mr. Rudolph was born September 4, 1912 in Cassidy, KS to Charles Essic and Mary Ann (Whitham) Rudolph. The family moved to the Sheridan area in 1914. Mr. Rudolph spent his entire life ranching, and breaking and training horses. He ranched on the family ranch on Dutch Creek, and during the sheep-shearing season, would travel with a shearing crew through out the Rocky Mountain region. Mr. Rudolph then worked for the Kendrick Cattle Company on the OW Ranch on Powder River for many years, later working as a caretaker at the Trail’s End Museum. He also worked at the Experimental Farm, and spent time at the family ranch at Quietus for 10 years.
He married Hazel Lee in Sheridan, WY in 1935. Mr. Rudolph married Irene M. Decker in Sheridan September 30, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rudolph was an active member of the Methodist Church, singing in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and was involved in many other activities with the church. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #186 in Sheridan.
George loved to hunt, especially elk hunting in the Big Horn Mountains. He knitted mittens, scarves, and lap robes for children in the area through Volunteers of America, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Rudolph was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister, and one brother.
George is survived by one daughter, Marjorie R. Johnston, of Sheridan; two sons, Jack L. Rudolph, of Sheridan, and John W. Rudolph, of Gillette; two step-daughters, Alice Fleming Armstrong, of Otter, MT, and Addie Goodwin, of Otter, MT; two step-sons, Bill Powell, of Gillette, WY, and Lee Powell, of Sheridan; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and numerous great, great grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Rudolph will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Rudolph will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Tuesday, May 11th, and Wednesday, May 12th , and from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Thursday, May 13th at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Lon Weston, 62, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 in the Wyoming Medical Center after a short battle with brain cancer.
Lon was born July 22, 1941 in Providence, Rhode Island to Russell and Emma (Gruner) Weston.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 1963 from the University of Miami, he served 4 years as an officer in the Air Force. After discharge from the Air Force, he returned to the University of Miami and received his Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel Administration. It was there that he met and married his soulmate, Paula (Wrench) Weston in 1970. Over the years, Lon worked at several colleges including the University of N. Carolina at Charlotte, Georgia Tech and his alma mater, the University of Miami. He later worked with the Developmentally Disabled in Florida, Georgia, and here in Sheridan, WY. Upon semi-retirement, Lon was a substitute and mentor at many Sheridan County schools, in addition to teaching a Government Class at Sheridan College.
Lon’s passions included sports, (Especially Detroit Teams), railroading (collecting steam engines, and train watching), fishing, hiking, line-dancing, and spending quiet time with his wife, family and pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
Lon is survived by his wife, Paula, of Sheridan; his three daughters, Wendy Weston, of San Dimas, CA; Lisa McIntyre, of Sheridan, WY, and Susan O’Neal, of Ranchester; 5 grandchildren, and 1 more on the way.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Weston will be 10:00am Friday, May 28, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Keller officiating.
A Memorial Fund has been established at First Interstate Bank, in care of Karen Green, P. O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801, with proceeds to go to a fund for Missing Children.
Noah Bruce Williams, age 47, of Wheatland, WY, died Friday, May 7, 2004, in Wheatland.
Noah was born November 5, 1956, in Sheridan, WY, to Elmer and Daisy (Cantrell) Williams. He attended schools in Sheridan. Noah worked for Beckton Stock Farm for many years. He moved to Wheatland in 1997. He enjoyed gardening as well as being in the mountains hunting, fishing and collecting fossils. He loved children and they loved to play with him.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters Dorothy Groat and Lillie Rockafeller.
Noah is survived by his daughter Dody Moore of Ranchester, WY; son Dusty Ray Williams of Wheatland; mother Daisy Williams of Sheridan; brothers Ray Lee Williams of Billings, MT and Larry Ray Williams of New Hope, Alabama; sisters Susie Smith of Sheridan, Margret Gwathney of Sheridan and Rose Crow of Dubois, WY; 4 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Tuesday (May 11th) from Dayton Community Church with Pastor Dennis Goodin officiating. Interment will be in Dayton Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Arthur J. Bougie, Jr., age 51, of Sheridan, WY, died June 29, 2004, in Rapid City, SD.
He was born January 10, 1953, in Panama to Arthur & Antoinette (Poirier) Bougie, Sr.
He grew up and attended schools in Tucson, AZ. He worked harvesting wheat in many states. He married Candance Swartz in December 21, 1974, in California. They later divorced. He came to Sheridan in 1980 and worked for Transmissions by Burt. Later he owned and operated the Transmission Doctor until he moved to Oregon in 1990 where he worked in a transmission shop. In 1997, he moved to Spearfish, SD and then returned to Sheridan in 2003. He was a past president of the B.H. Mtn. Eagles. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, being in the mountains, fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling, camping, cooking and playing on his computer.
Mr. Bougie is survived by his companion Georgette Benbo of Rapid City, SD; sons Travis Bougie and Brandon Bougie of Sheridan; daughters Michelle Channel and Kimberly Bougie of Sheridan; brother Andre Bougie of Phoenix, AZ; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:00am on Monday (July 5th) from Big Horn Mtn. Eagles Club with the Rev. Terral Bearden officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Calvin E. Brackley, age 79, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, June 28, 2004, in his Sheridan home.
He was born September 10, 1924, in Buffalo, Missouri, to John Michael & Bertha (Mead) Brackley.
Cal grew up and graduated from high school in Buffalo. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Cal married Bell Coday on July 21, 1945, in Springfield, MO. After the service, he returned to Missouri and attended Southwest Missouri State University. Cal worked for the American Milking Shorthorn Cattle Society traveling the county classifying herds and promoting the breed. Later he was involved in the automotive industry and owned the GM dealership in Douglas, WY, for three years. After retirement, Cal lived in Lander, WY, finally coming to Sheridan in 1993. He had been a member of Masonic Lodge, American Legion & Lions Club. He most enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Cal was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Charles and his sister Louise Shewmaker.
Cal is survived by his wife Bell of Sheridan; son John C. Brackley of Sheridan; three brothers John M. Brackley of Lancaster, CA, Paul R. Brackley of Metairie, LA, and James A. Brackley of Ringgold, GA; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Thursday (July 1st) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Military rites are by the American Legion and the National Guard. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

William Glen Brown, 76, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.
Mr. Brown was born in Antioch, NB on May 7, 1928 to William R. and Rebecca (Johnson) Brown. He served in the U. A. Army during the Korean War, and was a police officer for the City of Scottsbluff, NB.
Mr. Brown is survived by several nieces and nephews. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Craig Louis Eckerman, 47, of Story, WY, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Eckerman was born October 7, 1956 in O’hau, Hawaii, to James Louis and Nancy (Youart) Eckerman. He grew up and attended schools in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Eckerman then attended and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1981. While in New York, he met Kim Umphrey and they were married in Massachusetts on September 12, 1981.
The couple moved to Lake Tahoe, NV where Craig was a Chef for Harvey’s Hotel and Casino. They moved to Kansas City in 1987, then moved to Jackson Hole, WY where they lived until 1995 when they moved to Story, WY.
Mr. Eckerman was a life-time member of the National Rifle Association, enjoyed baseball, was an avid New York Yankee’s fan, and collected all types of baseball cards, was a history buff, liked putting together models, especially tanks, enjoyed the mountains, camping, spending time with his family, and especially his dog “Zappa”.
Mr. Eckerman is survived by his wife, Kim, of Story; 3 sons, James Louis Eckerman, of Story, Jason Alexander Eckerman, of Seattle, WA, and Glen Nolan Ryan Eckerman, of Story; his father, James Eckerman, of Springfield, Missouri, and his mother, Nancy Youart, of Mesa, AR; and a brother, Mark Eckerman, of Phoenix, AR.
At Mr. Eckerman’s request, cremation has taken place, and there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
