Steven LeRoy Wheeler, 51, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.
Mr. Wheeler was born August 2, 1952 in Grand Rapids, MN to Dave LeRoy and Alice Marie (Wagner) Wheeler. The family lived in Hill City, MN, and moved to Lander, WY when Mr. Wheeler was 10 years old. He attended school in Lander, graduating from the Fremont County Vocational High School. Mr. Wheeler joined the Army in 1970, and was stationed in Fort Lewis, WA and Frankfurt, Germany during the Viet Nam era, being discharged from the service in 1977.
Mr. Wheeler returned to Lander going to work for U. S. Steel. In 1987, he moved to Elko, NV, where he went to work for the Barrick Gold Strike Mine in Elko, NV, where he was a heavy equipment operator and a union organizer. In 1990, he moved to Marshalltown, IA, working for Lennox Industries. Mr. Wheeler moved to Sheridan, WY in 1995 where he worked in various jobs before joining Volunteer’s of America, working at the homeless shelter located at the V. A. Hospital, retiring in February of 2003 due to ill health.
Mr. Wheeler married Debra Ackerman July 11, 1981 in Ankney, IA. They were later divorced, and were remarried February 14, 2003 in Sheridan.
He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, reading, movies, TV, was especially interested in politics, and spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents and 1 niece.
He is survived by his wife, Debra, of Sheridan; one son, Dave LeRoy Wheeler, the 2nd, of Sheridan; one daughter, Dawn Jamelle Wheeler, of Sheridan, two brothers, Ken Wheeler, (Sharon), of Kaycee, WY, and Craig Wheeler, (Kathy), of Sheridan; two sisters, Jeanne Loveland, (John), and Lori Burgess, both of Sheridan; one grandchild; 19 nieces and nephews; and 1 great niece.
A memorial service for Mr. Wheeler will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Hope Community Church with Pastor Gary Burdick, Dr. Karl Hunt, and Dave Asbury officiating. A memorial service and committal of cremains will be held in Lander, WY at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Claire A. Zeiner, age 77 of Sheridan, WY
Died Saturday, February 7, 2004, in Sheridan Manor
Born November 7, 1926, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Parents – Henry & Agnes (McDermott) Dietz
She graduated from Bethlehem High School and attended Easton Nursing School. She worked at Bush and Bull Department Store, Laros Silk Co., Bethlehem Steel Co., and the New Jersey Manufacture’s Insurance Company. She married James Zeiner in Bethlehem on August 27, 1949. She moved from Bethlehem to Pennington, NJ, and then to Hamilton Square, NJ. Later she moved to Sheridan, WY, where she was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible, crossword puzzles, music, playing auto bridge, pinochle, going to the theater on Broadway and traveling.
Preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Raymond and George.

Graveside committal of her cremains will be 10:00am on Tuesday (Feb. 10th) in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Frances Louise Ankney, 90, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. Ankney was born July 25, 1913 in Basin, WY, to Frank C. and Elizabeth (Leahy) Hormel. She attended elementary school in Shell, and attended high school in Greybull, graduating from Greybull High School in 1930. Mrs. Ankney then attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Billings, MT, graduating in 1934. She returned to Basin and worked in the Basin Hospital for a short time before moving to Sheridan in 1937.
Mrs. Ankney began working as a registered nurse at the Sheridan V. A. M. C., then went to work at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County for several years, before returning to the V. A. M. C., retiring in the fall of 1973 after 28 years of service.
Mrs. Ankney married Elmer Ankney June 10, 1946 in Sheridan, WY. The couple purchased their ranch on Beaver Creek in 1950 where Mrs. Ankney resided until her death.
She was a 67 year member of Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Altar and Rosary Society, Red Grade Homeowner’s Club, a past member of the Retired Nurse’s Association, a past member of the Beaver Creek School Board, and a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, growing her garden, especially raspberries, and had knitted numerous pairs of mittens and caps for the St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Torrington. Mrs. Ankney enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ankney was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother.
She is survived by 2 sons, Jim Ankney, (Toni), of Beaver Ck., and Leo Ankney, of Sheridan; 2 daughters, Mary Kay Ankney, of Springfield, OR, and Marie Kallal, (Henry), of Jerseyville, IL; 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Vigil services will be 7:00 P.M. Monday, March, 8, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Holy Name Catholic Church, with Father Ronald Stolcis as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Ankney may be made to St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, Torrington, WY, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Joanne P. Bell, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. Bell was born October 12, 1930 to James R. and Helen (Thompson) Perkins. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School. She attended college in Bozeman where she received a Bachelor’s degree, then attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, receiving her Master’s degree.
Mrs. Bell was a teacher at Squirrel Creek, Acme schools, and schools in Montana before going to work at the Sheridan V. A. Hospital where she was a Psychologist, retiring in the 1970’s. She married Charles T. (Chuck) Bell in Sheridan in 1952.
She was a member of the Cattlewoman’s Association, and numerous art groups. She enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, displaying of her husband’s artwork, and spending time with her family. Joanne especially loved children.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother.
She is survived by one sister, Barbara Lou Jorgenson, of Sheridan, WY; and 19 nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Bell’s request, cremation has taken place, and there will be a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Albert L. Bonine, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Sheridan Manor.
Albert was born on August 8, 1922, in Hoxie ,KS, to Albert and Lillie (Shafer) Bonine. He married Nellie Virginia (Matheny) in September of 1951. The couple raised two childrent together. Albert enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was active with The Grange in Washington State, Moclips, WA, and Monroe, WA. He was also an active volunteer with local food banks.
Mr. Bonine was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his two brothers, Wade and Raymond Bonine; his two sisters, Mildred Hill and Hortense Bonine; and his nephew Leo Hill. He is survived by his son, James Bonine and his wife Sheri of Story; his daughter, Lona Larson and her husband Todd of Monroe, WA; and his seven grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place locally and at Albert’s request his cremains will be scattered in Brawley, CA, with those of his wife, Nellie at their favorite place. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Frances F. Dodd, 86, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Sheridan Manor.
Frances was born on December 29, 1917, in Washoe, Montana to Elmer and Hattie (Cooper) Anderson. She grew up in Parkman, Wyoming, and was school in one-room schools. Following her school years, she worked as a waitress, and married Clarence Bobbitt. The couple’s union was blessed with five children, which they raised in the Sheridan area. They divorced, and she later married Hugh Dodd. The couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and they stayed there until Hugh’s death, whereupon Frances returned to Sheridan. She enjoyed square dancing, walking, knitting, and cross-stitching.
Mrs. Dodd was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Dodd; her parents Elmer and Hattie Anderson; her four brothers, Tom Anderson, L.L. "Bill" Anderson, Swede Anderson, and Roy Anderson; her sister Raetta Dockstetter; two grandsons; and her son-in-law Eugene Ewalt. She is survived by her three sons, Delmer "Corky" Bobbitt and his wife Bonnie of Texas, Dwaine Bobbitt and his wife Judy of Sheridan, and Bill Bobbitt and his wife Vivian of Bellview, Idaho; her two daughters Joanne Ewalt of Snider, Texas, and Carrol May and her husband Don of Ashland, Montana; her twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her three sisters, Ethel Sales and Bette Kincaid of California, and Ann Hank Kool of Forsyth, Montana.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Anna E. Ekis, age 103, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, March 5, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
She was born October 31, 1900, in South Wales to Fred & Lily (Wyld) Hoffman.
Anna came with her family to the U.S. when she was a young girl. She lived Ohio and Iowa before coming to Sheridan in 1915. She married Percy Chase in 1916 in Sheridan. He was killed in an accident in 1918. She married Charles Ekis in 1920 in Sheridan. Charles died in 1923. She married Jess Ekis in 1926 in Sheridan. Jess died in 1976. Anna enjoyed gardening and raising animals.
Anna was also preceded in death by sons Fred Chase and Ed Ekis; 2 infant children; grandson Gary; great granddaughter Krista; three brothers and one sister.

Louis Galloway, 70, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Louis was born in Wheatland, WY to Reubin Oliver and Mary (Sturdivent) Galloway on January 11, 1934. He attended school in Sheridan at Linden Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1952. Louis and Carolyn Wester were married at the Sheridan First Christian Church on September 14, 1952. Afer a brief employment with the State of Wyoming he became and agent with Farm Bureau Insurance where he was employed for thirty five years. He retired as a claims adjuster in 1994. A life long resident of Wyoming, Lou spent most of his life in the Story/Sheridan area. Upon his retirement he and Carolyn spent four summers in the Rapid Creek Cattle Allotment where Lou was the rider for the Connell and Gerber ranches. His hobbies, which he shared with their children and grandchildren, included hunting, fishing, and packing in the Big Horns. Lou had an especially sharp eye for arrowheads and other artifacts; he spent many hours combing plowed fields and hay meadows for additions to his enviable collection. Lou was a member of the Sheridan Wesleyan Church, the Wyoming Historical Society, Sheridan Masonic Lodge #8, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the National Rifle Association.
An only child, Lou was preceded in death by his mother and father. He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn, three sons, Louis Edward and his wife Linda Morris Galloway, Chris and his wife Laura Connell Galloway, and Joe and his wife Jane Look Galloway. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 2, 2004 at Sheridan Wesleyan Church with Pastor Chuck Lucas officiating with interment to follow at the Sheridan Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wesleyan Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
