William Henry Clark, Jr., 55, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County of injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident east of Sheridan.
Mr. Clark was born December 21, 1947, in Pomona, CA to William Henry Clark, Sr., and Catherine Eileen (Nugent) Clark. He grew up in California and moved to Sheridan in 1998, going to work for Scheckla Trucking as a long-haul truck driver. Mr. Clark was working for Scheckla Trucking at the time of his death.
Mr. Clark loved the outdoors, horses, his Harley-Davidson, and was one of the last original cowboys.
Mr. Clark is survived by his parents, William and Catherine Clark, of Pharump, NV; one son, William Henry Clark, III, of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Clark, of Las Vegas, NV; 5 sisters, Mary Flud and Sandy Harris, of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Moll of Polson, MT, Kathy Schaffer of Apple Valley, CA, Peggy Russell of Big Fork, MT; and 4 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Clark will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2003 on top of the Big Horn Mt.’s at Tongue River Canyon with his family and friends. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Eugene Eckroth, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Gene was born on October 31, 1921, in Mandan, ND to George and Beatrice (Kautzman) Eckroth. Gene Attended Jamestown College on a full ride basketball scholarship. He enlisted in the Army in May, 1940. He attended OCS at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and graduated in September, 1942. He participated in the Guadalcaual and Luzon campaigns in the Pacific, as an officer in the 8th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Division, 6th Army. After the war, he served in the Army Reserve in Montana and National Guard in Wyoming. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, HHB, 1st BN, Wyoming ARNG on March 9, 1973. He received the Wyoming National Guard Distinguished Service Medal as the Battalion Commander for the 1-49 Field Artillery Battalion. Following the war, Gene attended Montana State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Agronomy. On September 11, 1946 Gene married Elizabeth “Betty” Labrie and their union was blessed with five children. Gene loved watching sports and was also an avid watcher of politics. He was a life member of the Elks Club and was also a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Secular Order of St. Frances.
Mr. Eckroth was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Peter. Survivors include his three daughters, Susan Adams and her husband Joe of Billings, MT, Colleen Larsen and her husband Jerry of Casper, WY, and Kerry Zolg and her husband Robert of Huntington Beach, CA; his two sons, James Eckroth and his wife Andrea of Casper, WY and David Eckroth and his wife Laurie of Billings, MT; his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brother Henry “Buck” Eckroth of Mandan, ND; and his sister Virginia Boehm also of Mandan, ND.
The Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements

Cody was born April 12, 1988 in Sheridan, WY to Ron L. Holt and Heidi Rene Lawrence. He moved to Paradise, CA with his mother when he was 4 years old. They moved back to Sheridan 3 years ago. Cody was attending Central Middle School at the time of his death.
Cody enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, floating the Goose Creek, loved music, video games, and hanging out with his friends.
He is survived by his father, Ron Holt of Sheridan and Gillette; his mother, Heidi Lawrence of Sheridan; his grandparents, Bill and Ginger Lawrence; his older brother, Chuck Gilmore, of Sheridan; and his two sisters, Kira Lawrence and Amanda Gilmore, of Sheridan.
Services for Cody will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 11, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Burial will in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held from 8:00A.M. to 5:00P.M. Thursday, July 10th, and 8:00A.M. to 1:30P.M. Friday, July 11th, 2003.

Althea Hunter, 81, of Gillette, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at her home in Gillette.
Althea was born on June 13, 1922, in Lamar, Colorado, to William Herbert and Lucy Blanche (Yates) Creswell. The family moved from the dust bowl of south east Colorado to Gunnison, Colorado in the mid 1930's. In 1941 Althea graduated from high school in Gunnison. She enlisted in the Navy WAVE Program in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. She then went on to attend the University of Colorado in 1945 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1949. On October 9, 1949, she married George Hunter in Cheyenne, Wyoming and they made their home in Pueblo, Colorado until 1955. Their union was blessed with three sons. The family moved to Gillette in 1955. From 1964 through 1979, Althea worked as a pharmacist in the family owned business, Hunter’s Drug. Althea enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, history, sewing for herself, her children, and her grandchildren. She was a great encourager to her children, grandchildren, and all their friends.
Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers William Creswell Junior and Boyce Creswell. Survivors include her husband, George of Gillette; her three sons, Glenn Hunter, Stanley Hunter, and Daniel Hunter all of Gillette; her 8 grandchildren; her brother, Sam Creswell of Nampa, Idaho; and her sister, Jo McMillan of Roswell, New Mexico.
Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Gillette with Reverend Joel P.Wright officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Frances Kathleen (Brantz) Gillis, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Frances was born on July 14, 1922, in Monarch, Wyoming, to Andrew and Kathryn (Marosok) Brantz. In 1941 she graduated from Sheridan High School. She married William J. Gillis in 1942, the two had one son together before they divorced. In 1965 Frances married Otto Heezko and the two later divorced. She worked at the original Pentagon Building in Washington D.C prior to moving back to Sheridan where she was employed by MDU for 46 years. Frances enjoyed bowling, she bowled for Ernest Saddlery for many years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really loved the Big Horn Mountains and their family cabin that her father and uncle built in 1932. She loved and missed her parents always. Her greatest love in recent years were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances was a member of the Eagles, the Moose, and DOES.
Mrs. Gillis was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Walter; and her sister Victoria. Survivors include her son Robert and his wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her 2 grandchildren, Robert A. Gillis and Dyanne K. Tope; her three great grandchildren, Samantha F. Gillis, Bobby C. Gillis, and Kerstyn A. Tope; her nephew Gerald Brantz of Sheridan; and her niece Barbara Whiteman of Denver, CO.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bruce M. Jennings, Jr. Age 88 of Sheridan, WY
Died Friday, July 17, 2003, at his Sheridan home.
Born August 29, 1914, in Davilla, Texas
Parents – Bruce M. & Anna (Hine) Jennings, Sr.
He grew up in Davilla and graduated from Rogers High School. He worked for the CCC in East Texas for a time. Graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX, with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Berneice Locke on November 12, 1946, in Enid, OK. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and saw all his sons become Eagle Scouts. Bruce worked for Mobil Oil for 37 years until he retired in 1974 and moved to Sheridan. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #520, Wyo. Weapons Collectors and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting Charles Newton rifles.
Preceded in death by two sons Bruce Jennings, III and Gordon Jene Jennings; one sister; an infant son and an infant daughter.

Erma Guyot Kirby, age 94, of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born January 25, 1909, in Newcastle, WY
Parents – Henry & Rachel (Harte) Guyot
She attended school in Sheridan and in Edgemont, SD, where she graduated from high school in 1927. She graduated from Peru State Teacher’s College in Peru, Nebraska and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming. Erma married Kenneth E. Kirby in Hardin, MT, on February 7, 1931. She taught school for 42 years, 12 years in Lusk, WY and in the Sheridan School District #2 for 30 years. She retired in 1974. Erma was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, National Education and Wyoming Education Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, Naomi Chapter #2 O.E.S., Sahida Temple Daughter’s of the Nile, American Legion Aux., VFW Aux., and the retired Teacher’s Association.
Her husband and two brothers Noel Guyot and Charles Guyot preceded Erma in death.

Dana G. Mauch age 85 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in his Sheridan home.
Born January 11, 1918, in Wellesley, Massachusetts
Parents – Gilbert & Louise (Farnsworth) Mauch
He grew up Waban, MA and graduated from Newton High School. He graduated from Babson College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and later from Wentworth Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked at Boston Safe Deposit and Trust and was the Chief Investment Officer when he retired. He married Helyne Eisele in Massachusetts in the mid 1970’s. They came to Story, WY in 1976 and then later moved into Sheridan. Helyne died in 2002. An avid golfer, he was a member of the country club in Massachusetts and the Sheridan Country Club. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Board of First National Bank in Sheridan. He enjoyed being in the outdoors in Wyoming.

Susie Mitchell, 92, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 in Sheridan Manor.
Mrs. Mitchell was born October 1, 1910 in Kooi, WY to George and Mary (Kacet) Soltis. She grew up in Kooi and went to school in Monarch. She went to work at the Yentzer Ranch at the foot of the Big Horn’s on Big Goose.
Mrs. Mitchell married Joe Mitchell in Sheridan and she went to work at the Sugar Factory in Sheridan. Mr. Mitchell went to work in the Monarch Coal Mine, later working for Big Horn Coal, and the family lived in Monarch and Acme. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed her flowers and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two sons; Alvin and wife, Linda, of Sheridan, and Robert and wife, Lorena, of Gillette, WY; two daughters; Mary Lupton and husband, Eric, of Washington state, and Donna Ross and husband, Lance, of Washington state; one sister, Helen McAdams of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
