Virginia O. Jewell
Virginia O. Jewell, 96, formerly of Old Route 33 Horner passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born in Lewis County on November 9, 1915: daughter of the late Creed Summers and Dona (Duncan) Summers. She married William Ramsey Jewell, II, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jewell is survived by two granddaughters: Delesa Haught and husband Mike of Weston and Christina Booker and husband Robert of Cross Lanes, WV and six great grandchildren: Crystal (Joel)Revis, Emily (Chad) Monepenny, Macie Haught, Tony Sotelo, Erica Booker and Sam Booker. She is also survived by three brothers: Robert Creed Summers of Horner, Lynn Duncan Summers and Marl Junior Summers both of Medina, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, William, Mrs. Jewell was preceded in death by one son : William Ramsey Jewell, III and two brothers: Forrest Darrel Summers and Maple Highland Summers.
Mrs. Jewell was a long time dairy farmer on Skin Creek in Lewis County. She was a member of the Horner United Methodist Church. Most of her years, she lived in Lewis County until they lost their farm to the Stonewall Jackson Lake, where they moved and resided in Good Hope, WV. While there she was active in the New Bethel United Methodist Church and CEOS.
During her years in Lewis County, Mrs. Jewell was the founder of the Vandalia 4-H Club, over a 50 year member of the Vandalia Farm Women's Club (CEOS) and a Lewis County Belle for the Folk Festival. She was an avid gardener and animal lover.

Main Avenue Weston on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Dwayne Brown officiating. John V. Ridpath
John V. Ridpath, 78, died on December 30, 2011 at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon, WV. He was born July 21, 1933 in Van, Texas, and raised in Madill, OK, the son of the late Willie James and Gertrue Watson Ridpath. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Orlin Ridpath and Dariel Ridpath both of Oklahoma.
He retired after 25 years of service in Seventh-day Adventist institutions. He taught in several Seventh-day Adventist schools, including academies in New Jersey, Maryland, Mississippi, California, Georgia, Missouri, and West Virginia. He also acted as Dean of Boys in the boarding schools where he taught. He earned a Master's Degree and taught at Southwestern Junior College (now Southwestern Adventist University), Keene, Texas. He especially enjoyed physical education and coaching. He became well known as an exceptionally fast pitcher in softball and for his curve-ball. He worked as Assistant Purchasing Agent in Huguely Hospital in Ft. Worth, TX, a Seventh-day Adventist institution.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Medical Corps for two years. After he moved to West Virginia, he served as the State Disaster Coordinator for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Wiant Ridpath of Buckhannon, WV; niece, Jessamine Steadman and her two daughters of Texas; many beloved cousins of Oklahoma and Texas; step-children, Charles Vernon and Diana Bucklew and son Tamer of Davie, FL; Cheryl Robin Bucklew of Kansas City, MO; David Scott and Carol Bucklew and son Charles Alfred of Fenwick, WV; brothers-in-law, Harry Vernon Wiant, Jr. of Mercer Island, WA, and Samuel Woodrow and Freeda Wiant of New Market, VA; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bucklew of Buckhannon, WV; beloved grandchildren: Charles Brian and Rebecca Jo Bucklew of Walkerton, IN and their children Alexander, Jack and Julia May; Laura Elizabeth and Jeff Bucholtz and their son Otto of Berkeley, CA; step-grandchildren, Gary and Rebekah Garden and their children Elias and Morgan of French Creek, WV; Tara and James Donnen and their sons, Ian and Andrew of Buckhannon, WV, beloved step-aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was an avid believer in Christian education and asked that his friends and family in lieu of flowers please honor him with donations to the Brushy Fork Christian School, P. O. Box 205, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
A memorial service will be held at the Buckhannon Seventh-day Adventist Church at a later date to be announced.
Donald E. Barker
Donald E. Barker, 85, of Glenville passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following a brief illness. He was born in Glenville on May 7, 1926: son of the late Charles Barker and Rebecca (Marks) Barker. On April 2, 1947, he married his beloved and devoted wife, Mary Jean (Ralston), who survives.
Mr. Barker began his career as parts manager at Ford Motor in Charleston. He later worked at Ford Motor and Kinney Shoe Corporation both of Glenville.Donald was an active member of the Glenville Presbyterian Church, where he served as bookkeeper, Deacon, and Elder.
Mr. Barker was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II.
Family and friends will be received at the Glenville Presbyterian Church of Glenville on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday 11 a.m. from the Glenville Presbyterian Church with Reverend Kenny Fisher officiating. Alma M. (Miller) Benedum
Alma M. (Miller) Benedum, 84, of Weston passed away at 9:30 p.m. on January 6, 2012, at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew following a short Illness. Although Alma suffered greatly from the effects of both Parkinson's and Altzheimer's Disease, her smile continued to be a delight to her family and friends until the end. During her final years she received loving and devoted care from her husband, many in-home caregivers, and the wonderful staff at Crestview.
Alma was born September 9, 1927, the only daughter of the late Eli F. and Zetta B. (Cogar) Miller of Hepzibah, later of Clarksburg. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Homer H. Benedum, and by two sons and daughters-in law, David H. and Patty (Fraley) Benedum of Masontown, and Eric F. and Bertha (Burnside) Benedum of Weston. She is survived by four grandchildren, Stephen A. Benedum and wife Kristina of Bluefield, Erin M. Benedum of Ellicott City, MD, Michael K. Benedum and wife Angela of Ona, and Jason S. Benedum and wife Latricha of Weston, by great-grandchildren Alexis, Jenna, Kendra, and Elise, and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Beatrice Miller Simon and Beulah Miller Wright.
Alma was a proud graduate of Victory High School, class of 1945. For many years she was an active member and Sunday school teacher at ST. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston. After several years raising her family, she returned to work as a Sales Associate for the Weston J. C. Penney's store, from which she retired in 1989 after serving as Department Manager of both the Catalog and Women's Departments.

John Henry Cavins
John Henry Cavins, Jr., 66, of Weston passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness. He was born in Weston on November 12, 1945: son of the late John Henry Cavins and Mary Louisa (Marsh) Cavins. On June 17, 1966, he married Darleen (Cavallier) Cavins, who survives.
Mr. Cavins is also survived by two sons: Jerry Lee(Gelah) Cavins of Buckhannon and Randal James (Trinka) Cavins of Orlando, nine grandchildren: Heather Renae Cavins, Jerry Lee Cavins, Jr., Jeffrey Champion, Johnathan Anthony Cavins, Jordan Andrew Cavins, Michelle Shackleford, Kayla Allison Cavins, Danielle Nicole (Trevor) Mowery and Joshua Randal Cavins and two great grandchildren: Landon James Cavins and Cameron Dean Mowery. Also surviving is one sister Sue Mattingly, one brother-in-law: Buck and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by one brother: Hubert Cavins, one sister: Jane Rohrbough and one niece.
Mr. Cavins retired from the Weston Sanitary Board with 36 years of service. He enjoyed mowing, gardening and working around the house. John loved NASCAR and spending time with his family.
At Mr. Cavins request, his body will be cremated. There will be no visitation or services.

Diane Edwards Butcher
Services for Diane Edwards Butcher will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2011 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Reverend Ricky Willis and Reverend Mark Martin officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
The family request that visitation be observed on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the Hixson Brotherw, Pineville and continued Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Mrs. Butcher, 71, of Alexndria passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at her residence.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pineville and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had taught in Rapides Parish for 26 years during her working life.
She was precede in death by her son, James Lloyd "Jimmy" Butcher and parents, Dr. James M. Marguerite Winkle Edwards.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, William E. Butcher, Sr,; son, William E Butcher, Jr. and wife, Tamara Megison Butcher; grandsons, James Mathew Butcher and wife, Danielle Marie Butcher, William Jacob Butcher and Joseph Henry Butcher and one great-grandson, Benjamin Jackson Butcher; two sisters; and a host of other family members and friends.

Bonnie A. Fisher
Bonnie A. Fisher, 77, of 124 E 1st Street Weston passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 in CAMC- Memorial Division of Charleston following a brief illness. She was born in Clarksburg on December 1, 1934: daughter of the late Eddie Harter and Eva (Butcher) Harter. On May 29, 1959, she married Roy H. Fisher, who preceded her in death on February 15, 2010.
Mrs. Fisher is survived by one son: Allen (Kim) Fisher of Weston, two grandchildren: Casey Nicole(Ben) Brown and Nicholas Allen (Jackie) Fisher and 5 ¾ great grandchildren: Cole Brown, Gavin Fisher, Maria Brown, Dylan Fisher, Holdyn Fisher and one on the way. She is also survived by one brother: Charles Harter of Clarksburg, two sisters: Patty Williams and Peggy West both of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Roy, Bonnie was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Bo Harter and three sisters: Elizabeth Wilfong, Cozetta Harvey and Wanita Harter.
Mrs. Fisher was a clerk at Hardman's Pharmacy of Weston and also worked at their fountain. She was later a secretary for the Lewis County Magistrates Court and a greeter with Walmart. She attended Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston. Bonnie also enjoyed her needlework.

Gladys Pearl (Stutler) Oldaker
Gladys Pearl (Stutler) Oldaker, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and loved ones, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 following a brief illness. she was born in Gilmer County, W.Va., to the late Hayward and Peggy (Cather) Stutler. Gladys graduated from Janelew High School in 1945 and married WilburOldaker, whom she celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1998. She worked for the Rev. Williams Powers at the Louisville Baptist Temple. Later she was employed at K Mart in Cayton and retired after 26 years of employment. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church on Fohl Rd. in Canton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Gene Powell; her brother, Lester Stutler; granddaughter, Jennifier Hall; sister-in-law Ruby Randolph and brother-in-law, Willard Oldaker. She is survived by her son, Marlin (Peggy) Oldaker of Lavaletta, W.Va.; her daughter, Melodie (Randy) Donaldson of Loiusville, Ohio; sisters, Oleta (Beecher) Cogar of Canton, Ohio and Peggy Helmick of Morgantown, W.Va; brother-in-law, Bond Randolph of Clarksburg, W.Va. and Jean Oldaker of Schertz, Texas; four grandchildren, Tina (Larry) Leffingwell, Bobby Oldaker, Stephen (Carrie) Donaldson and Alisha (Jason) Beardmore, Tucker, Sydney and Savannah Donalson. Freddie D. Helmick
Freddie D. Helmick age 62 of Cedar Creek Rd. Glenville WV., departed this life at 1:05 p.m. Saturday January 7, 2012 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown WV. following a one week illness.
Born October 16, 1949 in Gilmer County, son of the late Irene Helmick.
Freddie was a graduate of Burnsville High School and was a heavy equipment operator, he worked in the oil fields and just recently retired from the Gilmer County Board of Education as a school bus driver. He was a Marine Veteran during the Vietnam War, and then joined the National Guard Military Police Branch.
Fred was a member of the Gilmer County Fire Department and E.M.S. for 30 years. One of his favorite pass times was running sideline chains for the Gilmer County High School and Glenville State College football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but Freddie's purpose was helping others and anyone who knew him, knows that. He also faithfully attended the Church of God of Prophecy at Sand Fork.
On July 21, 2009 he was united in marriage to Helen Williams Helmick, who survives at their Cedar Creek Home.
2 daughters survive; Michelle R. Gum and husband Jim and Jennifer D. Fallo and husband Chuck both of Weston WV. ( 1 step daughter) April Fridley and Fiancee Kieth Tibado of Frostproof Florida. (6 grandchildren) Maddysen Parsons, Leah Fallo, Brayden Fallo, Erin Jenkins, Toby Fridley, and Kameron Tibado.
Also surviving is (1 brother) Larry Joe Helmick of Cleveland Ohio, (1 sister) Doris Jean King of Glenville, (2, 1/2 brothers) Kenny Conrad of High Point North Carolina, Ronnie Conrad of Glenville, (2, 1/2 sisters) Linda Rowh of Parkersburg West Virginia, and Kathy McCune of Glenville.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Church of God of Prophecy, Sand Fork West Virginia at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney cemetery, Linn WV. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Pearl T. Perrine, age 87 of Rock Cave, WV, passed away Friday, January 06, 2012 at her home. She was born October 25, 1924 in Heaters, Braxton County, WV. Preceding her in death are her parents, Hugh and Effie Williams Fisher; 2 brothers, Roy and Oakie Fisher and 5 sisters, Oma Nolan, Dessie Knight-Curtis, Nellie and Ethel Cogar and Madeline Fisher.
She is survived by a son, Lonnie Perrine of Rock Cave; daughter, Janet Atkinson and husband, Grant of Richmond, VA;
2 grandchildren, Annette Nethken and husband, Mark of Canaan, WV; Jaimie Marks and wife, Irena of Annapolis, MD;
2 great-grandchildren, Betheny Nethken of Buckhannon, WV and Bridgette Nethken-Marteney and husband Ryan of Crawford, WV; 2 sisters, Olive Curtis of Berlin Road, Weston, WV and Mary Jane Burnside of Buckhannon.
Pearl was employed for 27 years by Reidboard Brothers in Buckhannon and was a member of the Ingo Church, where she played piano. She loved the Lord and enjoyed many years of fellowship with her friends. She loved to quilt, work in her garden and canned for her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon, where services will begin at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Don Elmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Heaston cemetery.

Sharon Lynn Skidmore
Sharon Lynn Skidmore, 64, of Weston passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown following an extended illness. She was born in Spencer on February 20, 1947: daughter of the late Clell Niday and Mildred (Short) Niday. On December 31, 1975, she married Dane Skidmore, who survives.
Mrs. Skidmore is also survived by one daughter: Melissa (Steve) Turner Rogers of Weston and four sons: Jeffrey (Juliana) Turner of Mebane, NC, Jason (Dorcas) Skidmore, Brian (Sherri) Skidmore, and David (Tammy) Skidmore all of Weston. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Kyle and Drew Rogers, Thomas and Katie Turner, Mikelea, Brooklyn, Ethan, Jailee Paige Skidmore, Ryan and Brian, II Skidmore, Lucas and Logan Skidmore, Chelsea and Ryan Kerns and Brandy Skidmore, one brother: Gary (Pauline) Niday of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Skidmore is a homemaker. She attended the Grace Fellowship Church of Goosepen Road in Lewis County. She was a graduate of Weston High School. Sharon loved Shopping!
