Robert E. Bosley
Robert E. Bosley, 88, of Beverly, formerly of Flower, passed away Dec. 8, 2011, after a long illness.
He was born June 24, 1923, a son of the late Cecil Obert and Gertrude (Hines) Bosley.
He was a World War II Veteran having served in the Battle of the Bulge, Africa, Normandy and he was within six miles of Germany when World War II ended. Robert was a member of the Sugar Creek Independent Baptist Church, Gassaway. He retired from General Motors after 31 years of service.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella (Stewart) Bosley; brothers, Neil and Shirley Bosley; sister, Rita (Bosley) Cutlip; and step-brother, Dana Bragg.
Survivors of Robert include his daughter, Delores (Pete) Avery, Wellington, Ohio; grandson, Peter (Connie) Avery, Beverly; granddaughters, Melissa (Kyle) Roberts, Wellington, Ohio, Kendra (Michael) Prindle, Lewis Center, Ohio; great-granddaughters, Roxanne (Phillip) Radcliff, Homewood, Lydia and Hannah Roberts, Addison, Melayna and Kaitlynn Prindle.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Rev. Rick Wyatt officiating. Burial was in Sugar Creek cemetery, Gassaway. Friends were received Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Lee Bragg
Robert Lee Bragg, 76, of Copen, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at home after a long illness.
Bob was born in Gilmer Station, Gilmer, on May 7, 1935, to the late Nola William Bragg and Lelia Mae Nicholson Bragg.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. Bob worked in the coal mines and then Weston State Hospital for 28 ½ years. He loved to play guitar, listen to others play live music, hunting, watching cattle auctions and playing with his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jane Hosey; brother, Jerry D. Bragg; brother, James L. Bragg; brother, David Bragg; and great-grandson, Triston Boggs.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Peggy E. Townsend Bragg; son, Jeffrey Lee Bragg of Gassaway; daughter, Regina M. Bright and her husband Virgil Bright of Gassaway; daughter, Joyce Lynn Kincaid and husband Kenny K. Kincaid of Crawford; brother, Paul W. Bragg and wife Barbara Bragg of Burnsville; and sister, Peggy Ann Riffle of Copen. Bob is also survived by grandchildren, Misty Dawn Vaughn, Michael Wayne Bright, Jeffrey Todd Bragg, Shani Hissom, Clarissa Boggs, Chynna M. Bragg, Zachary Bragg, Stephanie Kincaid and Cody Kincaid. Nine great-grandchildren also survive him.
The Bragg family would like to thank Hospice for all of their help. Everyone the family came in contact with was very helpful and considerate. The family would also like to thank everyone that visited Bob while he was sick. He loved visitors and it lifted his spirits.
The family received friends on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods. Funeral services followed at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens, Heaters.
Roy Grafton "Budge" Conrad
Roy Grafton "Budge" Conrad, 93, of Napier, passed away in Bridgeport, on Dec. 10, 2011.
He was born on April 16, 1918, at Benny's Run near Napier. He was a son of the late Boyd William "Tuck" Conrad and Artie Wine Conrad.
He began his working life during the Great Depression in CCC Camps in WV and later worked at Pardee-Curtain Lumber Company. He worked in various coal mines, Stalnaker's Farm, Youngstown Steel Mills and the West Virginia State Road Commission, S. J. Groves Construction (I-79) Lane Construction, the Burnsville Dam Project and J. F. Allen (Burnsville Dam and Rt. 33). He retired from the WV Laborers Union.
Roy was a Sunday school superintendent at Napier United Methodist Church and was also affiliated with the "Wings of Faith Prayer Group."
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James A. "Sonny" Conrad, Ben Conrad and Thomas Conrad; sisters, Loni Claypoole, Lue V. Young, Ressie Allen, Nina Blake and Noretta "Patty" Allen. Son-in-law, Norman "Jack" Toms and great-great granddaughter, Sierra Chevelle Cayton also precede Roy in death along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Minnie Belle "Sis" Allen, being married on Good Friday, April 10, 1941; sisters, Reba Ratliff, Orlando, Rosa Sisk, Jane Lew, Nancy Singleton (William) Orlando; children, Shirley Y. Toms of Covesville, Va., Donnie E. Conrad (Phyllis Singleton) of Dale City, Va., and Rodney Conrad (Becky Ross) of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Jeffrey F. Cayton (Brenda Baker) of Napier, Jennifer Conrad Inge (Kevin Inge) of Woodbridge, Va., and Jeffrey B. Conrad of Dale City, Va.; step-grandchildren, Norman Wayne Toms (Joyce), Deborah Helm Toms (Chris), Mark Toms (Monica); great- grandchildren, Elijah F. Cayton (Melanie Wimer) of Walkersville, Carrie J. Cayton of Napier and Madison Grace Inge of Woodbridge, Va.; step great-grandchildren, Brandy Mayle, Brittany Toms, Robbie Toms and Austin Toms; great great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Jones and Caylea Cayton, Walkersville; step-great great-grandchildren, Koby Mayle and Tyson Mayle, Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Stockert-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods. Burial will be held in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens, Heaters. The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donna DeMoss
Donna DeMoss, 53, of Webster Springs, passed away Dec. 8, 2011, at Morgantown, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 9, 1957, in Weston, to the late Ernie and Velma DeMoss.
She lived most of her life in Webster County and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Bolair.
She is survived by her companion, George "Bo" Harrison of Webster Springs, and a brother, Gary DeMoss of Weston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Philip DeMoss.
Friends were received at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, on Sunday, Dec. 11. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Radcliff officiating. Interment followed in the Boling cemetery in Weston.
Donald Lee Hammond
Donald Lee Hammond, 47, of 94 Wimer Run Road Jane Lew, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, in United Hospital Center of Clarksburg following an automobile accident.
He was born in Fairfax, Va., on Feb. 9, 1964; son of Larry Hammond and Sandra (Messer) Hammond of Jane Lew.
On Oct. 9, 1993, he married Elaine (Davis) Hammond, who survives.
He is also survived by two brothers, David Alan Hammond and wife Lynn of Weston and Larry Richard Hammond and wife Rachelle of Jane Lew; one sister, Julia Jenkins and husband Mike of Pricetown; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hammond was employed by Lipp's Wrecker Service of Jane Lew. He also was employed by Nexus Drilling and also worked at Midway Auto of Good Hope working on vehicles.
Donald enjoyed hunting and Ford trucks. He loved to repair and restore trucks. He was a giving person and donated his organs so others might live.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Friday, Dec. 9, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Mike Stottlemyer officiating.
At Donald's request. his body will be cremated following services and ashes will be scattered at a later date.
Howard E. "Ham " Hawkins
Howard E. "Ham " Hawkins, 82, of Lewis County passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, while a patient in Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born in Roanoke on April 22, 1929: son of the late Hocus French Hawkins and Beulah May (Corathers) Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha J. "Marty" (Van Horn) Hawkins. Also surviving are three sons, Ricardo E. and Deb (Cobb) Hawkins of Roswell, Ga., Dare Hawkins and Jeanette Abernathy of Weston, Shane V. Hawkins and Olga Cocalevscaia; and three grandchildren, Shannon Hawkins Higdon and husband Mark of Orlando, Fla., Rebecca Hawkins of Roswell, Ga., and Ariadna Artemenko Cocalevscaia of Chisinau, Moldova . He is also survived by one brother, Andrew "Andy" and Sylvia (Rossi) Hawkins of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Cheryl Parker of Rock Cave, and Frances Van Horn Jr. of Lakeland, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Berniece Hawkins of Waynesburg, Ohio, Frederika Sheppard and Sue Van Horn. Mr. Hawkins is also survived by nieces and nephews, Steve Parker, Willie Parker, Kennetha and Mark Houze, Larry Hawkins, Gary Hawkins, Beverley Coombs, Mike Hawkins, Bertha Mehalis, Sheral Monroe, Tim Hawkins, Rich Hawkins, Mary Ann and Richard Bailey, Mary Jane Parker, Vicki Van Horn, Dennis Van Horn, Robyn Van Horn, Rory Van Horn, Shocky Van Horn Jr., Scott and Vincent Ours.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and John Hawkins; two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Hawkins Parker and Edna B. Monroe; brother-in-law, Shocky Van Horn; sister-in-law, Floda Hawkins; and nephews/nieces, J.B. Parker, Doug Hawkins, Franny Van Horn, Mark Ours, Melissa Coombs and Brenda Van Horn.
Howard grew up in the southern part of Lewis County where he attended Walkersville High School, lettering in basketball. After graduating from high school, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska during WW II. Upon completion of his active military duty he returned to Lewis County where he married Martha J. Van Horn and together they raised three sons. He was an avid fisherman and hunter that enjoyed roaming the hills of his childhood and old homeplace. He enjoyed laughter, family gatherings, playing golf, bowling, card games and square dancing.
Mr. Hawkins was a retired welder with the Timken Roller Bearing Company (The Timken Company) of Canton, Ohio, with 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Julliard Masonic Lodge #460 F & AM of Louisville, Ohio, Past president of the Roanoke Reunion, Past president of Young Republicans Club of Canton, Ohio, USW and IBEW, member of the Deerfield Country Club of Weston, and a member of the Canton Baptist Temple.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Friday, Dec. 9, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral home chapel with Reverend Jonathan Nettles officiating. Interment followed services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Jane Lew. Full military honors were conducted by the Lewis County Honor Guard. Weston Masonic Lodge #10 AF & AM conducted Masonic graveside rites.
George Ershell Himelrick
George Ershell Himelrick passed away at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg on Dec. 9, 2011.
George was born in Marietta, Ohio, on April 4, 1932.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Violet Himelrick.
Surviving are his daughters, Jaunita Stutler, Judith Hoover, Sue Wilson, Julie Epps; his son, Lucas Himelrick; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
George was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Japan, and was a graduate of the Coyne Electrical School of Chicago, Ill. George worked for many years throughout Lewis County as an electrician and commercial refrigeration specialist. George was an avid reader who enjoyed philosophy, medical sciences, and long walks in the woods with his dogs.
Louisa Mae Randolph
Louisa Mae Randolph, 64, of Frametwon, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Gassaway on Sept. 25, 1947; daughter of the late Eddie A. Bollinger and Pearl (Warstler) Bollinger.
On Jan. 25, 1969, she married Michael Scot Randolph, who survives.
Mrs. Randolph is also survived by one daughter, Michelle Schultze of Beckley; one son, David Randolph and wife Laura of Bridgeport; and one granddaughter,Alaina Randolph. She is also survived by two brothers, Ronald Bollinger of Purgitsville, and Ray Bollinger of Frametown; one sister, Gae Skinner of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Randolph was preceded in death by one infant sister, Janet Ruth Bollinger, and one grandson, Brycen Randolph.
Mrs. Randolph taught school in Ritchie and Braxton County schools. She was a graduate of Glenville State College in education.
Mrs. Randolph was later an employee of Go Mart. She was a member of the Charity Baptist Church of Wilsie. Louisa enjoyed gardening.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, Weston, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Graveside services were held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. from Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, with Pastor Bryant Bailey officiating. Interment followed services in the family plot in the cemetery.
Desta C. Smith
Desta C. Smith, 86, of Glady Fork Rd. Crawford community, passed away Nov. 21, 2011, in Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born April 10, 1925, to the late Okey and Goldie McQuain Swisher.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Smith, Dec. 11, 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Donnie Smith of Weston and Harley Smith of Walkersville; and four daughters, Helen Shields of Buckhannon, Wanda Strader of Heaston Ridge, Mary Sawyer of Beckley and Cathy Smith of Buckhannon. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Smith attended Rock Cave Baptist Church and was a member of the Straight Fork CEOS.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at Heavner-Cutright Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. Interment was at Post Chapel cemetery at Crawford.
Roger L. Weese
Roger L. Weese, age 62, of Buttermilk Drive, Glenville, departed this life at 11:58 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at his residence following a short illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1949, in Braxton County, son of the late Andrew and Virgie Marks Weese.
Roger was a former employee of 16 years at the Gilmer County Senior Citizens where he served as a bus driver. He was a former employee at Glenville State College where he had 24 years of service. He was also a member of the Glenville Lions Club for 33 years, enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and had once played with Johnny PayCheck.
On July 4, 1969, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Jean Metz Weese, who survives at their Buttermilk Drive home.
Surviving are two children, Lori Mathess of Barberton, Ohio, and Roger Weese Jr. and wife Susan of Quakertown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kaleb Weese, Hunter Weese, Macayla Mathess, and Amber James; one sister, Betty Isenhart of Ohio; five brothers, Larry Johnson, Steve Weese, Jerry Weese, Jim Johnson, and Mike Johnson all of Ohio.
Along with his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one grandchild, Dakota Weese.
At Rogers request, he had an immediate burial Saturday morning, Dec. 10, in the Weese Family cemetery, where friends and family shared thoughts on him and his life.
Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisted the family of Roger Weese with arrangements.
Mary Catherine Crawley
Mary Catherine Crawley, 72, of Vienna, WV passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in St. Joseph Hospital of Parkersburg following an extended illness. She was born in Weston on July 22, 1939: daughter of the late Elmer Lilya and Mary (McDonnell) Lilya). Mary was married to Jack Crawley, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crawley is survived by one sister: Anita Schoen of Belpre, OH, one niece: Leanne Sturm of Mineral Wells, WV, and one nephew: Shawm Olcott of Lewis Center, OH. She is also survived by an uncle:Reverend Father John McDonnell of Charleston and a friend: Mary Powell of Vienna, WV.
Mrs. Crawley received her masters in Education and was an elementary school teacher. She taught one year in the Washington, D.C. area and then taught in the Wood County School System in West Virginia. She was an organist in several churchs.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the Machpelah cemetery of Weston with Reverend Father John McDonnell officiating. Interment will follow services in the cemetery. A private family mass will be held at a later date.
