Paul David Ables
Paul David "Dave" Ables, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in Benbrook. He courageously fought cancer and finally won the battle when he chose to go home to our Lord!
Dave was the son of the late John D. Ables and Naomi Perkey Ables. He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Lewis County. Dave spent his boyhood days in Homewood, just south of Weston.
At the early age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army, which was the start of a long and distinguished military career. He accepted his retirement orders from the 340th Air Force bomb group at Carswell in 1970.
Dave had a passion for genealogy, tracing the Ables lineage to the 16th-century Vikings, descendants of the Norsemen. "Farewell To An Old Viking."
Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Shelby Jean Bailey Ables.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Ables of Benbrook; grandchildren, Justin Biskup and his wife, Marta, of Pennsylvania, Jerry Naragon of Fort Worth, Nikki Naragon of Fort Worth and Kaitlin Naragon of Fort Worth; great-grandchild, Cooper Biskup; brother, Ralph Ables and his wife, Pat, of Fort Worth; sister, Virginia Hacker of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
At Dave's request, a private burial was held in Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery.
Elvira Bailey
Elvira Bailey, 101, of Tallmansville, formerly of Upperglade, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at New Hope Personal Care Center in Hodgesville, after a brief illness.
She was born in Ironton, OH, on Saturday, December 16, 1905; daughter of the late John Coleman and Almedia (Sturgnell) Coleman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Pierce Bailey; daughter, Pauline (Bailey) Feagan; sons, Rex Bailey, Mack Bailey and Edwin "Jink" Bailey; grandson, Bill Bailey; great-grandsons, Bradley Bailey and Bradley Cogar; great-granddaughter, Paula Cogar; son-in-law, Raymond Feagan; and six brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include eleven granddaughters, Jane Bennett, Genelda Neal, Sharon Nickles, Linda McCoy, Joyce McLane Adkins, Judy Bickford, Sue Roberts, Nancy Matthews, Joyce Hosey, Joann Dickens and Cathy Thomas; four grandsons, Raymond Patrick Feagan, David Bailey, Rick Bailey and Ernest Rex Bailey; 37 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and three daughters-in-law, Geraldine Bailey, Pauline Bailey and Betty Bailey..
Mrs. Bailey was an avid gardener, crocheter and baker. She enjoyed traveling and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was a cook at Camp Caesar. She was Christian by faith.
Friends were received Friday, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Adams-Reed Funeral Home of Cowen. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clarice Smith officiating. Interment followed in Handschumacher cemetery of Upperglade.
Fred S. Blake
Fred S. Blake, 68, of 140 Minnich Street, Weston, passed away at 2:14 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2007, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following an extended illness.
He was born in Proctor, WV, on February 11, 1939; son of the late Esther William Blake and Mazetta (Butler) Blake.
Fred is survived by one daughter, Darlene Wood and husband Charles of Olympia, Washington; and two stepdaughters, Cammie Blake of Merryville, TN, and Lisa Blake of Weston. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Carly and Matthew Wood, Justin and Ryan Lachmanek and Megan Carruba; and one great-grandchild, Blake Wood. Mr. Blake is also survived by two brothers, James Blake of Beech Bottom, WV, and Jack Blake of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal Blake Pollock, Norma Blake Dyer, Bulah Blake Wentz and Dolores Blake Lily; and three brothers, Curtis, Hubert and Robert Blake.
Mr. Blake was a retired technician with Radix Systems, Inc. He was a coal miner for 18 years and owned and operated his own lumber recycling business. Fred was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of the Weston Moose Lodge and Weston Eagles Club. Fred was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Monday, July 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Terry Lee Blake in charge of services. Committal services were held on Tuesday, July 3, at 1 p.m. from Green Lawn cemetery of New Martinsville.
John Clark Jr.
John "Jack" Clark Jr., 93, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007.
He was born in Newark, NJ. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1936, with a degree in commerce.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Western Pacific as a captain in the U.S. Army.
He joined Nolan Co. in 1950 and retired from the company's general office in Newport News, VA, in 1979.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ann; son, Tim and his wife Dawn of Vienna, VA; daughter, Karen Kern of Midlothian, VA; five grandchildren, Sara and Davis Clark and Samantha, Brian and Ben Kern. Additional survivors include his cousin, Robert Clark of MD, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Weston Masonic cemetery of Weston with the Reverend William Gum officiating. Military honors were accorded by WV Honor Guard, Kingwood.

Audra Eakin
Audra Eakin, 91, of Weston, passed away on June 29, 2007, at her home, following an extended illness.
She was born in Tucker County on September 19, 1915; daughter of the late Marvin Clay Painter and Isa (Auvil) Painter.
On August 2, 1946, she married Harry W. Eakin, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1966.
Audra is the mother of Roxanna Linville of Hurricane, Maxwell Eakin of Delray, FL, and Marvin Eakin and wife Donna of New Martinsville. She is the grandmother of four grandchildren. Mrs. Eakin was the sister of Jean Stickley of Winchester, VA, and Ruby Hebb of Elkins. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Mary Shahan, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eakin retired from the Weston State Hospital. She was a homemaker and attended the Weston Church of God.
At Mrs. Eakin's request, a private viewing and service will be held at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston and a private committal will follow in the Broad Run cemetery of Jane Lew.
Mary Jane Hearn
Mary Jane Hearn, 51, residing with her daughter of Rt. 1, French Creek, the Brooks Hill Community, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at her home.
She was born June 14, 1956, in Cleveland, WV, daughter of the late Gene Gibson Davis.
Surviving are three children, Jack Andrews of Mississippi, Loretta Jordan of Brooks Hill, and Jacob Riley of Rock Cave; four grandchildren, Kayle Williams, Michael Williams, Zachary Williams and Megan Jordan; and three sisters, Gay Granat of Ohio, Terry Glime of Buckhannon and Patty Hood of Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Kay Riley; and one brother, Otis Andrews.
She was Baptist by faith and a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at the Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Burial followed in the Fair Haven cemetery at Ireland.
Kenneth Earle Hurst
Kenneth Earle Hurst, 77, of 940 North Main Street, Weston, died at his home June 27, 2007, at 6:40 a.m.
He was born at Glenville, June 28, 1930, a son of the late Garland D. and Hazle Belle Reed Hurst.
He was married to Barbara Petty on September 16, 1973, at Akron, Ohio, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth Edward (Ed) Hurst and wife Robin of Weston, and Robert Alan (Bob) Hurst and wife Kathie of Weston; two daughters, Angela Hurst of Weston and Barbie Hurst of Weston; five grandchildren, one of whom was Grandpa’s very, very special granddaughter, Kylie Pittman of Weston.
Three brothers are deceased.
Mr. Hurst was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was the youngest member of the Honor Guard for General McArthur for five years. He was a member of the L.O.O.M. Lodge 1376 of Weston. He was a graduate of Glenville College and a school teacher in Webster County, a life-long owner and truck driver for many years.
Friends were received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., with Dusty Lynch officiating. Burial followed in the Broad Run cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to United Hospital Center’s People’s Hospice, Clarksburg, W.Va., in memory of Kenneth Earle Hurst.

Maude Nicholson
Maude Ruth Fincham Nicholson, 87, of Windham, OH, died June 28, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Wanda Dewey of Windham, OH, after a short illness.
She was born May 5, 1920, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Robert Walter and Mattie Lee Squires Fincham.
She lived most of her life in Braxton and Lewis counties. She retired from the Weston State Hospital in 1982. She was a member of the Orlando Baptist Church before moving to Ohio in 2000. She enjoyed quilting, reading, Cleveland Indians baseball games, she loved bluegrass music and especially listening to her nephew Charles Fincham and band.
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Dewey of Windham, OH, and Fonda Skinner and her husband Jimmie of Ravenna, OH; two granddaughters, Kimberly Conrad and Randi Skinner; two great-granddaughters, Amber and Brandy Kaser, whose loving care was a great comfort to her last weeks of life; great-grandson, Calum Conrad; nieces, Carol Cook and Charlotte McCauley; nephews, Charles Fincham, Ronnie Nicholson, Donald Emerson, Blain, Delmas, Donnie and Ronnie Conrad.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Warder Nicholson in a mining accident in 1951; seven sisters, Vena Erden, Lena Ford, Dessie Frame, Delia Emerson, Bessie, Letha and Bernice Fincham; two brothers, Homer and Fred Fincham; and two sons-in-law, Jacob Conrad and Richard Dewey.
Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at the King cemetery, Copen, with Rev. Larry Conrad officiating. Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home of Gassaway.
Thomas G. Nye
Thomas G. Nye, 92, of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at his home, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
He was born January 4, 1915 in Grafton; the son of the late Eldon F. and Helen Cline Nye.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Oreta Curtis Nye; one sister, Dorothy Nye; two brothers, Eldon F. Nye II and Paul S. Nye; and one stepson, Ted Legg.
He is survived by his present wife, Pauline Legg Nye of Buckhannon; son, Dr. Thomas G. Nye II of Lexington, VA; two stepdaughters, Paula Hagan of Cashiers, NC, and Penny Wilson of Morganton, NC; grandson, Scott Nye; three step grandsons, Kevin Hagan, Dusty Wilson and Ben Hall; step granddaughter, Amber Hughes; two great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Linger of Lorentz and Hettie Finster of Roanoke.
Mr. Nye was retired from Equitable Resources, where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buckhannon. He was also a 50-year member of the Weston Masonic Lodge #10. Mr. Nye served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
At Mr. Nye's request, his body will be cremated. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton, with the Reverend Richard McGuire officiating.

Henry W. Schultz
Henry W. Schultz, 69, of S. Henry Avenue, Elkins, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, after a brief illness.
He was born October 11, 1937, in Ohio County, WV, the only child of Henry W. and Lily Schultz.
Henry loved scenic car rides. He enjoyed country music and watching televsion very much.
He will be sadly missed by all his caregivers are ResCare of Elkins and his many friends he made while living there.
Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Interment will be in Mt. Zion cemetery, 29th Street, Wheeling, at a later date.
Ross White
Ross White, 89, of Weston, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston, following an extended illness.
He was born in Vadis, on July 12, 1917; son of the late James B. White and Goldie (West) White.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jean (Francis) White and three daughters, Patricia Gray and husband Danny of Ronceverte, WV, Diane Taylor and husband Terry of Strasburg, VA, and Kim Jacks and husband Michael of Morgantown. He is also survived by eight grandsons, David and Jeffrey Gray, Ryan, Chad and Scott Taylor, and Michael, Jonathan and Kevin Jacks; and three great-grandsons, Brandon and Bryce Taylor and Nicholas Gray. Also surviving is one brother, Blair White of Sun City, Arizona.
Mr. White graduated from Weston High School in 1935, Salem College in 1942, and earned his Master's Degree from WVU in 1951. He taught school at Weston High School and Lewis County High School from 1950 until his retirement in 1979. He served in WW II with the 337th Infantry, 85th Division in Italy.
Mr. White was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church of Weston, Weston Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M., Mountain Honorary of WVU, WV Education Association, Lewis County Retired School Employees, Retired Army Officers Association, and a charter member of the Deerfield Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.
Mr. White was cremated at his request and private graveside services will be held at the Weston Masonic cemetery at the family's convenience.
