Denver Rowan
Denver "Denzil" Junior Rowan, 61, of 264 John Street, Weston, died at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, after a long illness.
He was born January 17, 1945, in Harrison County, a son of the late William Alfred and Effie Blanche Grogg Rowan.
He was of the Pentecostal faith. Denzil was employed by DSL Trucking, Houston, TX, as a truck driver. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a karaoke DJ. Denzil enjoyed his grandchildren very much.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ex-wife, Lorraine M. Harris Rowan; one grandson, Gregory Scott Rowan; three brothers, John, William Robert and Leroy Rowan; and three sisters, Geraldine and Margurite Rowan and Frances Marie Fisher.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Patricia Rowan of St. Petersburg, FL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Scott Hefner of Waldeck, Cheri and Charles Tomblin of Weston and Tammi and Salem Hamaoui of Largo, FL; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-grandson; four brothers, Rex Rowan of McWhorter, Glenn Rowan of Hendersonville, NC, David Rowan of Wallace and Kenneth Rowan; two sisters, Kathleen Harris of Buckhannon and Mary Ancel of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, October 15. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bob Hoover officiating. Interment followed in the Woofter cemetery, Isaac Creek Road, Churchville.
Merle Bell Swisher
Merle Bell Corley Swisher, age 100, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2004. She had resided at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon since 2002.
She was born July 2, 1906, at Interstate, a daughter of the late Isaac J. and Cora Crislip Bell.
She is survived by one daughter, Roberta and husband James Karp of Horner; one son, Robert and wife Sarah Corley of Conley, GA; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Curtis of Buckhannon, Edith Holden of Beverly, and Gerry Ellison of Elkins; and one brother, Clarence and wife Betty Bell of Weston.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tristan Tenney officiating. Interment will follow in the Peterson cemetery in Weston. Iterment followed in the Woofter cemetery, Isaac Creek Road, Churchville.
Victoria A. Vela
Victoria A. Vela, 52, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at McAllen Medical Center, Texas.
Her memory will live in our hearts forever. She was a loving and caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and nurse.
Vicky was born in Weston, on August 23, 1954.
She moved with her family to Lake Alfred, FL. where she graduated from Auburndale High School in 1972.
In 1973 she joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Cocoa Beach, FL. She then transferred to Osan, Korea where she met her husband.
They were united in marriage on July 14, 1976 in Seoul, Korea.
She was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in August 1980. Vicky then moved to Mission with her family and obtained her nursing degree at Pan American University. She was employed as a nurse at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, South Texas Rural Health Clinic in Cotulla, TX., D.O.N. At Frio Hospital, Pearsall, TX., Texas Dept of Corrections, instructor at VOTECH and worked with Home Health agencies.
After residing in Cotulla for nine years Vicky and her family moved back to McAllen and was employed with Mission CISD for the last thirteen years. Vicky truly loved her career as a school nurse. She was a loving, nurturing and caring nurse with her school kids.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew W. Hall; and her brother, Kim E. Hall.
Vicky is survived by her husband of over 30 years, Raul Vela; her loving daughter, Brianna M. Vela; her mother, Benigna Hall; her sister, Ella J. Hale and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jesse Aleman, Armando Ornelas, Rene Vela, Rudy Trevino, Jorge Saldana and Christopher Lujan. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation was held Thursday, October 12, 2006, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006, at Virgil Wilson Mortuary Chapel, 2200 N. Conway Ave. in Mission, TX. Reverend Dr. Roberto L. Gomez officiated. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen, TX.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Virgil Wilson Mortuary of Mission.
Dessie Ruth Walker
Dessie Ruth Knisell Walker, 79, of 27 Hawkins Drive, Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital, Buckhannon.
She was born at Morgantown May 5, 1927, the daughter of the late George and Mary Dessie Hess Knisell.
She was married to Howard W. Walker Sr., who died July 9, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Howard W. Walker Jr. of Alabama; four daughters, Luella Sinclair and Patricia Brown of Buckhannon, Barbara Messenger of Nutter Fort, and Yvonne Dadich of Morgantown; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Faith Tabernacle of Buckhannon, and the Ladies Aid of the church.
One brother, two sisters and one grandchild preceded her in death.
There will be no public visitation and private funeral services for the family will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew with Pastor Jimmy Russell officiating. The family will meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m.
Pamela Williams
Pamela Jean Williams, 61, of 6319 Main Street, Jane Lew, passed away at 4:09 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Weston on February 26, 1945; daughter of the late Harold "Gene" Sims and Dorothy Leo (Burkhammer) Sims.
Mrs. Williams is survived by one daughter, Lisa J. Parks and husband David of Weston; two sons, Thomas E. Williams and wife Toni of Kenna and Jeremy L. Williams of Jane Lew; and six grandchildren, Daphne Lane Parks, Deidre Leonia Parks, Thomas "Gage" Williams, Hannah Jean Williams, Nathanial Gavin Williams and Austin Brice Williams. She is also survived by two brothers, Jeff L. Sims of Jane Lew and Jay A. Sims of Bristol, TN; one sister, Linda J. Lake of Wooster, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by one sister, Jill E. Rinehart, and one infant brother.
Mrs. Williams worked in the deli and as a cashier for Krogers of Weston for over 30 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jane Lew. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Jane Lew.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Thursday, October 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday at 2 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Sharon Carr officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Weston.
Lula Mabel Donaldson
Lula Mabel Donaldson, 89, died October 24, 2006, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Lewis County May 2, 1917, a daughter of the late John Edward and Mary Louvirnia Atkins Posey.
She was twice married. First to James Oliver Posey, then to Robert S. Donaldson, who are both deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Francis Posey and wife Cammie of Weston and Edward Posey of Weston; three daughters, Beatrice Posey and Martha Rowan and husband James of Weston and Mary Jean Radcliff and husband John of McWhorter Road, Jane Lew; one sister, Dorothy Sharps of Weston; two sisters-in-law, Mary Blake and Gladys Blake of Weston; five stepchildren; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her cat Oliver.
Six brothers, two sisters, one daughter, Loretta Faye Posey, and one stepson are deceased.
Mrs. Donaldson was a lover of many things, such as her flowers of many colors. She loved the outdoors and her family.
She was retired from the Weston State Hospital with over 21 years of service. She was Methodist by faith.
Friends were received at the Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew on Thursday, October 26. Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Freedom Apostolic Church of Shadybrook of Weston. Officiating her services were her grandchildren, Rev. Sue Lowther and Rev. John Radcliff. Burial followed in the Peterson Siding cemetery on Oil Creek.
Mrs. Donaldson was held in state at the church from 10 a.m. to the 11 a.m. funeral hour.
Mary Moneypenny
Mary Cox Moneypenny, 94, a resident of Crestview Manor Nursing Home, Jane Lew, passed away October 29, 2006, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.
She was born December 23, 1911, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Albert and Lena Tomblin Cox.
She was married to Burl Moneypenny, who passed away in 1988.
She is survived by one son, Lynn Montgomery and wife (Lola I.) of Alum Bridge; one daughter, Geraldine Radcliff of Deerfield, Ohio; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lincoln Cox.
Mrs. Moneypenny received her master's in education and she taught in the elementary schools for many years in Braxton and Lewis counties until she retired. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received at the Morris Funeral Home of Jane Lew on Tuesday, October 31. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 1, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Krum officiating. Burial will follow in the Woofter cemetery at Alum Bridge.
Virginia Pumphrey
Virginia Marcell Pumphrey, 82, of Warrior Drive, Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, October 27, 2006, in Northside Healthcare Center, Murfreesboro, TN. After a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, she is home with the Lord she loved.
She was born October 5, 1924, in Hutton, IN, a daughter of the late Clarence Herman and Laura Ethel Ellis Stufflebean.
On March 28, 1946, she married Thomas Lee Pumphrey, formerly of Roanoke, who survives in Murfreesboro, TN.
She was a member of South Side Christian Church in Kokomo, IN, and attended church at the First Baptist Church in Weston. Her love of the Lord was evident in all she did, especially her singing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Craig Pumphrey.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice Hubbard and husband David; grandson, Mark Hubbard; granddaughter, Kristen Hubbard; and great-granddaughter, Aiya Capps, all of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters, Wanda Baker of Portland, OR, and Norma Corey of Terre Haute, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Tuesday, October 31. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bob Hoover officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
George Workman
George Thomas "Tom" Workman, 66, of 283 Brush Run Road, Roanoke, died October 24, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born April 4, 1940, on Goosepen Road, Lewis County, a son of the late Lloyd Thomas "Jimmie" Workman and Unabell Burkhammer Workman.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Regina May Kearns Workman; two sons, Craig Thomas Workman and wife Petra of Pamplico, SC, and James Thomas Workman and fiance' Lisa Grow of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Beverley Jeanette Kohl and husband Tom of Elyria, OH, and Tonya Renee Carpenter and husband Roger of Roanoke; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Pugh of Glenville and Jane Collins of Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Pumphrey.
Mr. Workman was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961, he was a meat cutter and later self employed in residential water treatment.
Tom loved reading, walking, boating and fishing with his buddies.
A ceremony was held for family and friends at Grace Fellowship Church on Saturday, October 28, 2006. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

Alice Carr
Alice Peterson Carr, 73, of Sunset Acres, Weston, passed away at 2:53 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2006, following an extended illness.
She was born in Horner on August 13, 1933; daughter of the late Ancil T. Peterson and Nell (Taylor) Peterson.
On January 13, 1957, she married Richard V. "Rick" Carr, who preceded her in death on September 4, 1998.
Mrs. Carr is survived by one sister, Doris P. Harper of Horner and one brother, Don H. Peterson of Horner. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great-nephews. Mrs. Carr is also survived by her caregivers, Irene and Don Lundell.
Mrs. Carr retired in 1990 from the Citizens Bank of Weston as a bookkeeper with 21 years of service. She graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1951 and later graduated from Clarksburg Business College. Mrs. Carr was a member of Stonecoal United Methodist Church. She was a member of the 4-H Club as a child, where she was selected as an All-Star Member of 4-H. Mrs. Carr enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband, Rick. She was a friend and mentor to her co-workers, family and friends alike. Mrs. Carr was a very generous person, giving to many organizations and people around the community.

Interment will follow in the Miller cemetery of Horner.
