Joseph Elzy Oldaker
Joseph Elzy Oldaker, 93, passed away Dec. 9, 2005, at Nella's Nursing Home, Elkins.
Joseph was born on July 8, 1912, in Clarksburg, Harrison County, the son of Lowery Elzy and Willie Lawson Oldaker.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Oldaker Beeson; two brothers, William Bailey Oldaker and David Lynn Oldaker, Sr.; and one nephew, David Lynn Oldaker, Jr.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Geneva Oldaker Taylor of Rock Cave; and one brother, Edward Lawson Oldaker of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews, including Kathleen Sue Rymeski of Portland, Oregon; Lisa Palmer of Grafton, Mass., Bradley R. Oldaker of Weston, Philip and Michael Oldaker, both of Buckhannon, Stephen Oldaker of Texas, Joseph Beeson of Jefferson, MD; one step-nephew, Richard R. Hawkins of Mooreville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Lois Westfall Oldaker and Marie Jones Oldaker of Buckhannon; and one brother-in-law, Roy G. Taylor of Rock Cave.
Joe graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1930. He later attended WV Wesleyan College where he starred in track and tennis. He received many sports awards, including being inducted into the WV Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame. He was given the WV College Athletic Association Award as the all-time tennis player and Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award by WV Wesleyan College.
He bought the Acme Book Store from Hack Humphries and operated it for many years until he retired. He never married, but took care of his mother until her death in 1968. He then sold her house on Smithfield Street and moved to 207 Randolph St., where he lived for over 20 years and moved when he was no longer able to take care of himself. He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Joe served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 3609th Quartermaster Truck Company. He served in England, France and Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge. His company had a reunion every two years and Joe attended many of them, including hosting one in Buckhannon.
He was a sports devotee and gave financial support to WV Wesleyan College and to many of the basketball players. He loved to fish and hunt and fished in many states and in Canada. He made many trips to visit his brother, Ed, in Arizona where they fished in the White Mountains.
A memorial date will be held for Joe at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at a later date.
Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements.

Cecil Pugh, Jr.
Cecil Pugh, Jr., 73, of 2203 U.S. Hwy 33 East, Glenville died at 12:58 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an sudden illness.
He was born July 6, 1932 at Diana, Webster County; a son of the late Cecil Hansford Pugh and Genevieve Davis Pugh.
On March 13, 1952 he married the former Mary Loretta Workman who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven Ray Pugh of Smithsburg, MD and Terry Lynn Pugh of North Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren Elissa Mae Pugh of Nashville, Tennessee and Loretta Lynn Lattea of Weston; two great grandchildren Chrislyn and Christopher Curtis, both of Churchville; four sisters, Marjorie Harrison of Sodonia, Georgia, Doris Jordan of Cleveland, WV, Sharon McCartney of Webster Co., and Mary Ellen Arbogast of Lynn, Massachusetts.
Mr. Pugh was retired from the U.S. Army with over 20 years of service and was a Jehovah Witness.
At the request of the deceased, the body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Charles Edward Riffle
Charles Edward Riffle, 57, of Glenville died Monday, December 5, 2005, at 7:20 p.m. in Cedarville following a sudden illness.
He was born June 13, 1948, in Jane Lew, a son of the late Elzie Buren and Ella Mae Warner Riffle.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Grace Riffle of Buckhannon; one daughter, Roxanne "Rocky" Ellis of Bridgeport; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Elzie James and Sharon Riffle of Glenville and William Junior Riffle of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Samuel Ellis, Todd Ellis, and Brice Andrew Ellis all of Bridgeport; companion and former wife Betty Riffle of Cedarville, TX; six step-daughters, seventeen step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Marie Riffle.
Charles enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing bluegrass music. He was Methodist by faith and attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Cedarville, WV. Friends were received Friday at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston. Funeral services were held Saturday with the Rev. Kenny Fisher officiating. Interment follwed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Clifford Lee Williams
Clifford Lee Williams, 79, of 34 Gay Street, Weston died at 6:25 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2005 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness.
He was born in Lewis County on September 8, 1926: son of the late Henry Lee Williams and Mary Virsie (Henline) Williams.
On February 15, 1948, he married Patty Ann (Harter) Williams, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Vicki Jo (Williams) Spicer of Weston, one son and daughter-in-law, Dale Lee Williams and wife Aleece (McKnight) Williams of Buckhannon, one brother, Kenneth Brooks Williams of Texas, and two sisters, Ethel Maxine Cooper of Ohio and Loretta Dare Harbert of Jane Lew. Mr. Williams is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Justin Lee Williams, Casendra Moneypenny, Jasmine Hawkins, and Camilo Aguiar, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother Charles Martin Williams.
Mr. Williams was a retired vocational instructor with Tri-County Vocational School of Buckhannon. He owned Williams and Son Machine Shop, where he was a welder and mechanic and owned Williams Trailer Sales. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston. He was a graduate of Victory High School of Clarksburg, Class of 1945. Mr. Williams was a veterean of WWII, serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Jane Lew Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Williams was also a member of the Lewis County Emergency Squad, Lightburn International Order of Odd Fellows, Jane Lew Lions Club, and Jane Lew American Legion Post # 166.
Friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, December 11. Funeral services were held on Monday with Rev. Clifford West officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Jane Lew Fire Department stood as Honor Guard at the funeral home and provided honors at the cemetery assisted by the Weston Fire Department.

Nina Margaret Alkire
Nine Margaret Alkire, 98, formerly of Criss Manor, Weston died on Saturday, December 10, 2005 in Malakoff, Texas following a brief illness.
She was born in Gilmer County on June 4, 1907: daughter of the late Joseph T. Barton and Catherine (Dooley) Barton.
In March 17, 1930, she married Roy Alkire, who preceded her in death on February 26, 1960.
Mrs. Alkire is survived by one daughter, Nancy Moore and husband Charles of Mabank, Texas; one son, Larry Alkire and wife Susie of McGary Addition in Weston; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Alkire. She is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Wayne Alkire, three sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Alkire was a founding member of the Shadybrook Assembly of God. She attended Lakeview Assembly of God in Seven Points, Texas, while living with her daughter.
Friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston on Wednesday, December 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Victory Assembly of God of Weston with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery of Kincheloe in Harrison County.

Marie Clevenger
Marie Clevenger, 86, of 1384 McCanns Run Road, Jane Lew died Wednesday December 7, 2005 at 12:56 p.m. in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital of Weston.
She was born on January 28, 1919 in Clay County, a daughter of the late Dorsey A. and Ezzie Rose Clevenger.
She is survived by three brothers, Kester Clevenger and wife Mae of Jane Lew, Seth Clevenger and wife Ruby of Waverly, and Richard Clevenger and wife Marguerite of Salem; two sisters, Ruby Pollitt of Indiana, and Betty Galibreath of Waverly; several nieces and nephews, one of whom she raised, James Clevenger of Lewisburg, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kessell Clevenger, Ervin Clevenger, Lory Clevenger and Paul Clevenger.
Friends were received Friday afternoon at the Morris Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday with Rev. Jeffrey Zickefoose officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mary Catherine Gissy
Mary Catherine Gissy, 88, formerly of Olive Street, Weston died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2005 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness.
She was born June 19, 1917 in Weston; a daughter of the late Michael E. and Mary Moran McDonald.
On October 4, 1941 she married Matthew J. Gissy who died July 11, 1985.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. Gissy and wife Nancy of Bendale; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelia Rexroad and husband Stephen of Simpson Run; four grandchildren, Michelle Rexroad, Adam and Matthew Gissy and Courtney Moore; one brother, James McDonald of Virginia Beach, VA; three sisters-in-law, Irene Gissy of Weston, Regina Droppleman of Charleston, and Alice McDonald of Jane Lew; two special family friends, Waitman and Sandra Rutherford.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tracy Rexroad; two sons, Phillip and Stephen Gissy; four brothers, Robert William McDonald, John Raymond McDonald, Charles McDonald, and Fr. Edward McDonald.
Mrs. Gissy was employed at Webers Dairy later Kanes Hardware and retired from the WV Dept. of Highways with several years of service.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America Court Victory #379.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Wednesday, December 14 from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from the St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Reverend Fr. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Machpelah cemetery.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel.

John William Gum
John William Gum died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 27m 2005 in Chandler, AZ.
He was born December 3, 1921 in Weston, WV to Okey Worthington and Lillie Taylor Gum.
John served overseas in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II.
He married Bessie Gum in 1946 and raised two step-children, Joe and Barbara. Bessie died in 1964, and in November 1965, he married Marlene Kail and raised four more step-children, Stephanie, Glenda, Garland and Celeste.
John retired in 1984 and traveled in his RV for ten years, and spent many of his retirement years as a volunteer for the Red Cross and the Senior Center, where he drove to pick up the disabled and the elderly. He was also an active member of the VFW Post 7401, Cooties #9, American Legion Post 91, Elks Lodge #2429, and a past member of the Eagles. He was proud to be a veteran and spent his time as an Honor Guard for VFW Post 7401.
He also received numerous awards and recognition for his volunteer services.
John is survived by his wife, Marlene; step-children: Joe Butcher, Barbara Nicoloff, Stephanie Crawford, Glenda Kail, Garland Kail, Celeste Hendrickson; and siblings, Barbara Romito, Arloff Gum and Andrew Gum. Also surviving are cousins, nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Bueler Mortuary in Chandler, AZ on September 30. Interment followed in the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Pheonix, AZ.

Gertrude V. Heater
Gertrude V. Heater, 93, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, in Crestview Manor, Jane Lew.
She was born August 24, 1912, a daughter of the late Edward and Eliza Riffle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
Gertrude is survived by one brother, Gilbert Riffle of Elkins; two grandchildren, Jenna Heater and Keythan Heater, both of Buckhannon; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Herbert "Roller" Heater on Jan. 12, 1989;one son, Gary "Buddy" Heater, one grandson, Joshua Heater, three sisters and one brother.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Thursday, December 8. Funeral services were held following the visitation with Albert Farley officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery.

Hobert Ray Mick
Hobert Ray Mick, 84, of 1054 Brookside Drive, Fairmont died at 9:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2005, in the Wishing Well Center in Fairmont following an extended illness.
He was born June 26, 1921 in Copley, a son of the late Ollie and May Ballard Mick.
Surviving are one brother, Ralph L. Mick of Mentor, Ohio; one sister, Ressie WIlson of Fairmont; one sister-in-law, Loena Mick of Weston; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; two special great nephews, Marc Anthony and Ryan Wilson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley and Howard Mick and three sisters, Tressie Nolan, Ruby Polachek, and Ruth Paugh.
Mr. Mick was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the medic field on duty in Alaska from 1943 to 1946.
He retired from Owen-Illinois in June of 1978 with several years of service.
He attended Bealls Mill United Methodist Church. Mr. Mick was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 19 from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National cemetery in Grafton with full military honors.

Michael G. Mick
Michael G. Mick, 48, of 355 George Street, Weston, died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2005 as a result of an auto accident on US Highway 19 North.
He was born February 22, 1957 in Weston a son of Clifford Mick and Maxine Crook Mick.
Also surviving are one sister LeAnn Weaver of Jacksonville, Florida; one nephew Thomas Weaver and several aunts and uncles.
Mike was an electrician and attended the First Baptist Church of Weston.
Friends were received at the Boyle Funeral Home of Weston on Monday. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Crouch officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery.
